I put cupcake paper on the top of my flour or powdered sugar before I put the lid on and vacuum seal. It makes the vacuum sealer work better because it keeps the flour particles from going in the sealer and clogging it up.
Wow thank you so much ❤ for sharing. I had been trying to accomplish storing my produce 100% before they expired. Now I can see how using my vacuum sealer & Mason jars will help me doing this.😊 I had to change my lifestyle eating more greens, whole foods & daily exercise- meditation. With that I learned about preserving our own foods with pressure/waterbath canning, dehydrating and sealing. Now I can go a step further, thank you. rduBoise
I’m 65….ive been sealing my food in canning jars for over 20+ years when I got my first sealer…..it DEFINITELY keeps food fresher longer…..especially lettuce/salad 😊
I did the strawberries in a large gallon jar. It’ll be two weeks since I bought these and they are still firm and delicious. Normally they’d be moldy after 4 days.
Put a coffee filter, paper towel or cupcake liner on to[ of the flour then put the lid on and vacuum seal. No problems with flour escaping into the vacuum sealer then.
Great idea! My produce gets eaten quickly. I buy six heads of romaine lettuce and it’s lasts 6 days. Coffee is kept in the freezer. It would be handy to have that bottle sealer
I have that sealer and i love it. No issues with it and if you temove the large end it reveals the end for regular mouth jars. It has held its charge for months now but easy to recharge when the time comes. Charger cord was included plus some labels and even 6 lids. A bonus surprise for me.
I was so excited about this vacuum sealer when I got it, because I love to have the ability to vacuum seal in jars. I thought it was something that I was or wasn’t doing to it to make it not seal properly but after inspecting the device the seal was warped so I’m hoping to send mine back to the manufacturer and get a replacement.

What is the name of the recipe book that you are using for the sausage recipe? Great tips, thank you. I have been measuring my flour in 4 cup increments and putting it into a lunch bag, then putting it into vacuum sealing bag and vacuum sealing it. It makes bricks of it. I would love to use the mason jars, but I do not have enough of them to use that way right now. I am going to try the vegetable storing method you showed.
Thank you, It’s called The Joy of Cooking cookbook by Irma S. Rombauer it’s an older book. I put a lot more seasonings in my sausage recipe though because it needed a bit more flavor. I am currently vacuum sealing some flour in paper lunch bags too! I’m running out of jars.
Mark the flats so you know they were used in dry vac storage. If we carefully remove them we reuse for dry vac storage. Also we use a brake bleeder sometimes to seal when we are in our outside pantry shed (no electricity for the Food Saver).
@@kdwetzel3251 a brake bleeder is a tool to draw the brake fluid out of your car. However it can be attached to a foodsaver jar vacuum adapter in order to dry vacuum seal canning jars. Only use a brake bleeder that has never been used on anything else. Connect the air hose to the foodsaver jar vacuum adapter and the other end to the brake bleeder tool. Place a clean flat lid on a jar. Place jar vacuum adapter over jar and flat lid. Squeeze the brake bleeder handle repeatedly to draw air out of the adapter. Eventually a vacuum is created and the lid seals to the jar. Try to get as much pressure out of the tool as possible for a longer lasting seal.
The problem with the marshmallow one is that the vacuum makes them bigger because it is sucking the air out of them. When released from the container they deflate.
I find moisture gets into the flour when it’s frozen upon taking it out of the freezer. No bugs survive in an oxygen free environment so vacuum sealing works well
We have Cabela's carnivore 3/4 horsepower meat grinder. Pork butt was .99 on sale. If we compare this to a decent sausage, we save about 229%. It's worth the dime for the 100 Cabela meat bags! And we know what's going into the sausage!!!
@richmondsplace the funny part is I'm a vegetarian since 8 yrs old, but my family loves meat, meat, meat...and I'm the cook...lol. I can only tell you they love it. And I get recipes online. I type best sausage and marinated chicken thighs. I have been told many are reasturant quality.
It’s odd that your apples go bad quickly. I have two apples that I’ve had since the Christmas bags at church (experimenting) that are perfect. 🤔 I don’t buy apples from that market anymore. 😂 I’m down south.
I cut one open and it was still perfect. I’m not sure how. That can’t be right, right? We’ve no basements here on the coast. I suppose I need to find some orchards near me as well.

I've never seen the jar vacuum sealer before, that is amazing!
Amazon sells them
I love love love your videos but your voice is amazing and so soothing. I literally fell asleep listening to you last night! ❤️
Thank you so much!
Happy to be of help!😊
Knowing that 3.5 cups of flour is in each quart jar since most bread recipes call for that measurement.

Welcome 😊 We are so happy to have helped!
You covered a lot of interesting ways of doing things especially the lettuce. I will have to watch the video again. Very Good. Thank You...
You’re welcome! 😊
Some say to stack two lids on the jar to help get it to seal. I personally never tried this but its worked for others.
Thanks for the tip!
Great tips
Glad you like them!
Can you reuse the lids after opening?
Yes you can. Try to find a jar opener that won’t damage the lid I use the OXO Jar opener

Use a double lid with 1 upside down. Works for me.

If your jars don’t seal, put two flats [lids] on, it will increase the pressure, then remove the extra flat.
Thanks for the great tip!
Where do you get the vacuum sealer ?
We got ours from Amazon, I posted the link in the description for everyone.
Were? Did you get your sealer and how much was is.

Always keep your *Apples* (even loose) *in the refrigerator!* Same with *Avocados,* once they start to get soft.
Thanks for the tip!

Where did you buy your vacuum sealer?
Amazon. It is called Saker plus jar vacuum sealer.
What was the sausage recipe you did?
The sausage recipe, and all other recipes is in the description box below this video.
I would store my flour in half gallon vacuum sealed jars.
We just got some half gallons at the store yesterday to store more flour in. More of a space saver for sure!
very useful tips!
Glad you think so!
@@richmondsplace if I could afford half this stuff I would do this
It took years for me to think of keeping my lettuce standing in a little water.(obvious ) ?
You are not the first person I’ve heard complain about that sealer.
To stop bugs, freeze flour for a couple days
