@@ThatSingerReactions Towards the end of Farnhams career he had a backing vocalist to reach those high notes he couldnt quite hit anymore, his name was Irwin Thomas and he eventually went on to to start his own band called "The Southern Sons" Which is basically a 90's rock band but with someone who sounds exactly like John Farnham singing for them
John has been married for 40 years and has two sons - breeds horses on a ranch in central Victoria. He had a number of invitations to go to the USA but chose to stay at home with family in a beautiful part of Australia. Every song he sung and every concert he performed and every album he recorded was something special.
You know this guy got married young, and he is still married to the same lady... that is the kinda man that John is. Committed... to his life, his friends, and to his music. He was actually trained as a plumber!
Yep, and not only that but he's generally used the same band and backing singers throughout his career (or at least since Whispering Jack). He's incredibly loyal.
That’s a John Farnham concert. Full interaction, vocal delivery, vocal ad libbing, crowd involvement, musicians and backing singers involved and given focus and credit by John. No lip sync, auto tune, just raw talent on show. His concerts are always sold out. As for women, well he’s been married to Jill for over 40 years and they have 2 sons. His song Burn For You was a tribute and acknowledgement for her and other partners of band members when they’re on the road. His band has not changed a great deal over the years - he had really talented musicians and gave them little spotlight moments.
John's are honestly the best concerts, and I swear if he ever recovers enough to do a true final concert, I don't care how much the tickets cost, I will be there, making sure I'm one of the seats filled. His friend and former manager, Glenn Wheatley, had made a promise upon taking him on for Whispering Jack, "I will make sure every seat is filled. If you don't sell out, we don't do the show." That was the kind of man Glenn was to his friend, for he had seen John in times when he was only performing to family and friends in his living room, and near on empty bars with bands that were behind, just to make a buck to pay his rent. So Glenn said "I will make sure that it is a packed house" and even to this day, with Glenn gone (he passed from covid), the arenas and halls are full, because we Aussies love a battler, and we love our John Farnham.
I took my Johnny Farnham poster off my wall when he got married in 1973. I was 7! I was upset because I thought I could marry him when I grew up. 🤣 I loved him then and I still do. I have seen him in concert 4 times and he’s an absolute legend.
He has “pulled” almost every Australian for over 50 years. We all love him. Not only for his talent in entertaining all Australians but as a rallying point when Australians have needed to come together to help other Australians in their hour of need. Be it, bushfires, floods, drought, desperate farmers etc. He has put on amazing concerts, toured all of this wide brown country of ours to raise funds to help the improvised of this nation. He was named Australian of the Year in 1987. We, Australians are lucky to have him.

You need to do “Please don’t ask me” by John Farnham. It’s a beautiful song and his voice is perfection as always. Or for something different “Every time you cry” which is John and a group called Human Nature.
He got the girl he wanted and they've now been married for 48 years! For his signature microphone stand throwing trick, check out the version of 'You're the Voice' from this concert.
There’s one from a 1988 live in Melbourne short set somewhere on TH-cam where, during ‘you’re the voice’ the roadies replace his mic stand TWICE! In the same song 🤣🤣🤣 cos he trashes them so so badly hahahahahaha yet he gets away with it

Fun Fact: The gorgeous blonde background singer who's closest to the camera in every shot is Lisa Edwards who became so recognisable on stage with John and was good enough to have her own solo career for a short time in the late 80s/early 90s. You gotta react to John doing "Playing To Win" LIVE... It's a very high-energy song and it suits John's voice to a tee. He wrote and first performed it when he was the front man for Little River Band.
I’ve just spent 2 hours listening to your reactions to our great Aussie artists. Growing up listening to these songs, I’ve just taken their talent for granted. Thank you for breaking it down and showing me from an artist point of view. I appreciate the songs so much more

If you'd like another Aussie icon, react to Tina Arena singing Chains - nothing like it. PS, John has been married to his Jill since 1973. They have two sons.
I think your missing something about John...... it's not just his songs that were iconic, it was more that HE was iconic in his ability to deliver a performance that left you tingling with energy after each song
I still have a picture of me sitting on his lap after a small concert in Canberra when I was around 14. I am 66 this year. Have admired and loved this wonderful man all that time and he still sings superbly
Apart from Farnsy's incredible vocal and entertainment talents, one thing that he will be remembered for is that he never injured anyone or anything with his mike stand hurling 😂 And yes, most of his songs are iconic. From his first days in, 1969 I believe, generations of Aussies know and love his songs, and can sing along with them. Just like ACDC
I remember an episode of the comedy show ‘the games’ where he was ‘training’ a stand in guy to do mic stand hurling during the Sydney olympics opening ceremony 🤣
I’ve got goosebumps from your reaction. I hope John Farnham is aware of your great reactions. As a teen I made up my own choreo to this that I still remember 30+ years on.
I remember my grade 12 graduation (equal to prom) back in 2000, and we were all coming home on the bus afterwards, and there were about 50x 17 year old kids on this bus, boys, girls, plus teachers, and we were all singing every single word of it at the top of our lungs. Most of us didn’t like each other, but be damned if we weren’t all United in our love for Johnny!!
As an Aussie. I loved watching your reactions to our talent and just in general. Your passionate and keep it real. Iv never seen John live but seen Jimmy many times .Both both rock. Thanks for your song reactions.
Farnsey is a national treasure. Hearing him sing brings back my childhood. He’s in the fabric of Aussie culture. Optimism, diversity, talent, wrapped up in a nice guy personality.
Its so proud as an Australian that THE VOICE John Farnham is now being heard throughout the world through your reactions...Thankyou John Farnham The Greatest Singer on the Planet Cheers Jeff
You make me so happy and proud to be Australian! Thank you for shedding light on some awesome Australian artists (and so happy that you love them too), I hope everyone else enjoys them 🥰🇦🇺
I took my 3 young sons to John’s concert in Melb (Aus) late 80’s. A true entertainer in all sense. Thoughts to John going through major crisis of health issues. May we still have many years of his music to come.
Glad to see our icon John Farnham is finally getting recognised overseas. He is amazing Live in concert. Been to all his concerts since the age of reason tour all the way up to the last time! You are NEVER disappointed when you go to his concerts! My all time favourite Aussie singer! He is the G.O.A.T.
Funny story. A few years back John Farnham did an Australian tour with Lionel Richie. My friend and I went because we love John Farnham and he is an absolute Aussie legend. They had John go first and naturally my friend and I had the time of our lives and were thoroughly entertained. Then Lionel took to the stage and no offence to him, it just wasn’t as life changing as John. So we went home after a few Lionel songs clinging to the Farnesy high we were on 😂
As an Australian, I am just loving watching and listening to you dissect (with appropriate professionalism) John Farnham's incredible vocal skills, and yes the band's performance on this is absolutely unbelievable. PS: the flute you were wondering about I believe is an Irish tin whistle.
He's so good!! When I saw him live he was bending over to shake peoples hands and still able to belt out every note like it's the easiest thing in the world. I'm so glad that you've found him. He's freaking amazing!
All of John Farnham's songs are iconic, he puts his own special touch on every song he sings, he is a once in a lifetime singer, we in Oz love him and always will, a true legend..........
Your reactions are so genuine brother, I love that you’ve discovered some of our music icons, please do Darryl Braithwaite horses, now there’s an Aussie classic, or Jimmy Barnes flame trees please, cheers
That's Irwin Thomas (aka Jack Jones when he was lead singer of Southern Sons) who is also an AMAZING vocalist with a similar tone/range of Farnham. You should check him out too, especially their Australian Top-10 "Hold Me In Your Arms"... Goosebumps!!
That was a blast from the past for me. I was at that concert.. He had two different band members there.. Guitarists from the Little river band and Southern Sons. It was a brilliant night. He has also been married 48 years to wife Jill.
He is such a nice guy and sings to every person there. I was on the sidelines at his concert and he noticed me taking a photo and mid song he posed for me so I could get a good shot of him. Such a genuine person. 🐨🦘👍🏼
He's amazing... he also performed at the opening ceremony of the Sydney Olympics with Olivia Newton-John (Sandy from Grease) The song is called Dare to Dream and is one of my faves.
Fun fact - he was also one of the first people Queen spoke when getting a new singer. Freddie Mercury said in an interview once that he was an amazing singer I've heard as well
Johns known as "The Voice" here is Australia. I never understood why as kid. It wasn't until I started studying music that I started to understand. I don't think someone can truly understand how much precision and control he had unless they're a singer or play a musical instrument.
Watching your reaction to John and Jimmy makes me realise how much we take them for granted. We grew up listening to them, they have always been there. Dont get me wrong though, they are national treasures, our treasures.
John Farnham is indeed an iconic legend in Australia. Pretty much him and Jimmy dominated the music industry in the 80's and 90's with hit after hit. Thanks for doing these I love how much you appreciate their talent.
This song was all over Australian radio in the late 80s. I always thought it was middle-of-the-road, but this particular performance is terrific. Farnham is not only a brilliant singer, but gives his all as a performer, every single time. Legend 👏
At 4:38 you'll see a guy with long hair playing a red & white guitar, his name is Jack Jones (stage name) and was in a band called Southern Sons. Listen to their songs Heart In Danger, Always And Forever, Hold Me In Your Arms & You Were There and you'll hear another Farnham. Jack has an amazing voice to.
OMG I looooove you. I love seeing you react to some of my all time Australian artists. Farnsy, Guy, Jessica, Delta & Vanessa. If you an upbeat John Farnham song, check out Playing to Win. He wrote & sang this when he was with one of our iconic Aussie bands LRB - Little River Band. He replaced their lead singer, Glenn Shorrock (again, another fab Aussie). It’s up in my top 5 songs of his. Something to get you pumped up, especially before playing sport.
He is so old now. Went to a concert of his a few years ago and his voice and energy hasn't dropped an inch. You should react to one of his more recent videos. This old guy will surprise you .
Not only is the man an awesome singer, he also puts on a show. He loves to interact with his fans, I have not seen anyone better at this than John. I love the way you react to, in my opinion, the best male singer around. Awesome channel, keep it going man, thank you.
This video shows some of the amazing talent John had with him on stage. Phil Buckle is an incredible guitarist who played in a band with Jack Jones who is also a great guitar player called Southern Sons. Also David Hirschfelder the keyboard player in this clip played with Dragon and little River Band and is also an award winning composer with film scores winning him Oscar nominations and BAFTA and Australian Film awards. His backing vocalists Lindsay Field, Venetta Fields and Lisa Edwards were with him for his entire touring career as a solo artist and brought wonderful warmth and personality to his live performances.
#proud Aussie here… you should check him out singing ‘Playing to Win’ Live OMG… ..talk about hitting highs…. I love him, he is incredible..I saw him live about 3 years ago..he’d be around 70 years..and he still sounded amazing…on pitch..all the high notes..So amazing vocally…,! One of his backing singers beautiful American born Vanetta Fields …is a singing teacher..and is also amazing..He does an acpaella version of Amazing Grace live with Vanetta and crew. His is definitely Australian, my grandfather worked at the telephone company, and a young John Farnham applied for a job there, but my granddad said no, because he his hair was a bit too long lol .. Off he went to do music …thank God 🙏🏽 He is Massive in Australia…..massive.
Jack Jones is there too!!!! Apart from JF's voice I love the fact that he has been married to his wife since 1973!! In the music industry that's a hard achievement!! But he ha done it.. You should also check out RIVAL FIRE!!!
John Farnham, everyone loves him he's a true larrikin who always loves a good laugh. If you get a chance, see if you can find any of his interviews he's also got an infectious personality. When i went to see him (quite a few years ago now) he and his band were actually out the back of the stadium playing cricket right before the concert. This was also back in the day before heavy security and fencing you could see through. All round Awesome bloke.
I know right ? Farnsey's boy child haha... he is a phenomenal vocalist - southern sons spawned such great talent - Phil Buckle is an extraordinary guitarist/songwriter also.
I love that you are loving our Australian icons and John Farnham is an absolute legend here in Australia, we absolutely adore him. We rate Barnesy pretty highly to haha
G’day mate, yep John could have had his choice of any woman but he is a devoted husband & family man. To this day he still talks about the love of his life, his wife Jilly. Thank you so much for your comments about John & that magnificent voice, we here in Australia have been spoilt for so many years because he’s all ours. And just for all you bloody know alls who just have to state the bloody obvious, yes he was born in England but he has been living in Australia since he was 10, he calls himself an Aussie & loves this country & its people who rode the comeback wave with him & supported his success. ❤️🇦🇺
My fav song ever to sing a long too and fortunate too see him open a concert with it dueting with Olivia newton John i was like OMG ! curtain drop and Livvy and John march out holding hands and they sing Two strong hearts pure magic but its always great regardless like in this classic video which was originally beamed live simulcast into Australian living rooms.
I love your reactions to John Farnham. It makes us sit up and pay attention to how good he is again. We’ve been listening to him since the late sixties when he first came out with raindrops keep falling on my head and I think we’re so accustomed to hearing his voice that we forget just how amazing a singer he is. He just recently had a huge operation to have a mouth cancer removed. I’m hoping he recovers well and that his amazing voice is the same afterwards. But you know we will still love him just as much.
Love John Farnham. I have been to 3 farewell concerts of his. He used to do a farewell concert every couple of years. I also saw him on the concert tour with Tom Jones. They sang a couple of songs together and it was magic
Love seeing people get introduced to Australian legends like John Farnham and Jimmy Barnes. A few recommendations for Farnham songs: Age of Reason Touch of Paradise Playing To Win (from the short period he was lead singer of LRB) Chain Reaction Pressure Down That’s Freedom Every Time You Cry (duet with the group Human Nature) To name but a few. Keep up the awesome work!
Man I am loving all this Aussie content. It’s probably been said many times in your comments before, but in Australia when anyone refers to “The Voice” instantly you know they are talking about John Farnham. They’re not talking about the TV reality show we are talking about the one and only John Farnham.
I live in Australia. Not long after I watched your video here for the first time, I was in a grocery store and this song came on. I had a moment where I was just like THIS SONG IS SO GOOD. How come everyone in this grocery store isn’t feeling the same way as me?!!! 😂😂
John Farnham is so special to us Aussies. I’m not sure anyone expect an Aussie would understand how beloved he is in Australia. It’s was almost a right of passage for kids in the 80s to own a copy of the Whispering Jack album. Not only is he an incredible singer but he’s an equally incredible human. We literally love the man and he always has packed houses when he plays. You should check out him singing with Celine Dion or with Olivia Newton John - chefs kiss!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻

I'm an Australian and i never get tired of listening to John FARNHAM
Your reactions are so genuine brother, I love that you’ve discovered some of our music icons, please do Darryl Braithwaite horses, now there’s an Aussie classic, or Jimmy Barnes flame trees please, cheers
Thank you man it's great hearing this dude he's amazing
That's Irwin Thomas (aka Jack Jones when he was lead singer of Southern Sons) who is also an AMAZING vocalist with a similar tone/range of Farnham. You should check him out too, especially their Australian Top-10 "Hold Me In Your Arms"... Goosebumps!!
Here we go again!!! Makin me happy!
That was a blast from the past for me. I was at that concert.. He had two different band members there.. Guitarists from the Little river band and Southern Sons. It was a brilliant night. He has also been married 48 years to wife Jill.
I love hearing stories of people being at the concerts 💕
He is such a nice guy and sings to every person there. I was on the sidelines at his concert and he noticed me taking a photo and mid song he posed for me so I could get a good shot of him. Such a genuine person. 🐨🦘👍🏼
He definitely has the ability to make you he is singing directly to you when you were at one of his concerts. A beautiful man with an amazing voice
Best singer ever. Love his voice .
I love you and your enthusiasm for our Aussie music!! We are so underrated mainly because we don’t want fame and fortune 🔮
Something to get you pumped up, especially before playing sport.
one of the most beloved generous beautiful talents Australia has had!!! Love John
Imagine how good you are that Jack Jones (Irwin Thomas) is relegated to backing vocals and guitar only.
Actually a few Southern Sons reactions would be great.
I know right?
I remember the jokes about Jack Jones sounding just like Farnham.
I know right ? Farnsey's boy child haha... he is a phenomenal vocalist - southern sons spawned such great talent - Phil Buckle is an extraordinary guitarist/songwriter also.
@@danschiavello True that !!
Gotta see John Farnham & Tom Jones on "Hey Hey its Saturday"...Will change your life..
Omg My Yiddish Momme!!! UNBELIEVABLE!
@@mariadore7000 It's amazing isnt it, try and find JF doing a cover of "black dog" it was recorded during a sound check before one of his shows.
I heard it just this morning, amazing......the only thing not quite as good as the original is the drums but no one is ever gonna beat Bonzo
I don’t think I’ve ever listened to John like this before …I love listening to you get excited by him
I love that you are loving our Australian icons and John Farnham is an absolute legend here in Australia, we absolutely adore him. We rate Barnesy pretty highly to haha
My friends and I always crank this on road trips. Can’t imagine not growing up without Johnny Farnham, he’s loved by every generation ❤️
I have seen and met John Farnham several times and that voice (WOW), and his gift to truly entertain his audience, make him one of the best.
Love seeing jack jones from southern sons in background. John always has so many amazing singers performers musicians alongside him. 👍👍🇦🇺
Love John Farnham. I have been to 3 farewell concerts of his. He used to do a farewell concert every couple of years. I also saw him on the concert tour with Tom Jones. They sang a couple of songs together and it was magic
I LOVE this song! Many thanks for giving John the kudos he deserves! We love him.♥️♥️♥️
Love seeing people get introduced to Australian legends like John Farnham and Jimmy Barnes.
A few recommendations for Farnham songs:
Age of Reason
Touch of Paradise
Playing To Win (from the short period he was lead singer of LRB)
Chain Reaction
Pressure Down
That’s Freedom
Every Time You Cry (duet with the group Human Nature)
To name but a few. Keep up the awesome work!
Yes, a very iconic song! I am loving how much you are loving these Farnham songs!!
Listen to him sing [AMAZING GRACE LIVE]and LIFTED UP BY ANGLES LIVE IS GREAT AS WELL your reactions are great
I love this guy! This is my new favorite song by him.
Man I am loving all this Aussie content.
It’s probably been said many times in your comments before, but in Australia when anyone refers to “The Voice” instantly you know they are talking about John Farnham. They’re not talking about the TV reality show we are talking about the one and only John Farnham.
I love it how you said he could pull anyone he wants… yet he was devoted to his wife for 4 decades! A REAL man!
Have been watching you react to John Farnham and Jimmy Barnes for the past hour. Your obviously knowledgeable assessments and excitement over their voices is so good to watch ! It's like you discovered our little Australian secret - lucky you 😉
Loving these John Farnham reactions. As an Aussie, he is the soundtrack of my life…. Seen him many times, beyond talented, hilarious and general great guy. Plus, been with his beautiful wife, Jill since 1973. An epic life!!! Thank you 🙏
LOVE your reactions! Farnsey is my favourite performer of all time. John and his backing vocalists singing amazing Grace is wonderful… John knows his place in this 😉
