      all of the reviews of QDOLED monitor say you have to turn up the SDR brightness in windows is this video with that turned up? is it SDR vs SDR? Is it in 8bit color @ 175hz, or is it in 10bit color at 144hz? Thanks!

      blacks looks as shit as on my ips panel. Ez qd oled win Brightness for me is useless i got 350monitor atm using it at 40% brightness i got room with no windows basically for screen use. Took years for me to replace Panasonic Plasma for me its all about black colour any graish blacks are triggering my ocd.

    I had the 2721 for 6 month and played with 240 hz with my rtx 3080. now since 2 days I have the 3423 and I must say it’s totally different. Brightness is more than enough for me but that’s like you said - personal preference. But in motion and reaction time of the pixels, the 3423 is another level - it’s sooooo extremely fast in first person shooters and fast movement. that’s really night and day and after that i couldn’t believe that I find the 240 hz 2721 so much slower … I couldn’t believe it

    • @DisplayReality
      @DisplayReality  2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Exactly it's all personal preference. Putting personal brightness opinion aside. The speed of the QD OLED is next gen that's for sure. I will get to speed tests soon.

      Motion is probably the most important factor in a gaming monitor.

    • @naththoau
      @naththoau 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes because of liquid crystal has to move around, so you may get delay in response time unfortunately. OLED use self switching pixel so it would be a lot faster than the LCD.

    • @zacharyspencer2285
      @zacharyspencer2285 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I notice that even at 120hz the OLED I use is better in motion then the 200hz monitor that I use. However, for some reason I do better in games on the 200hz monitor (by quite a decent margin) over the 120 OLED. I think it might be the input lag on the 200hz monitor is less than the 120hz OLED even though I can see motion better in the OLED.

  • @zacharyspencer2285

    Since I have an OLED and the X35 predator I can say I've noticed that the OLED is definitely better as long as the room that you're watching it in is completely dark or almost completely dark. Otherwise if there is light sources nearby the increased brightness of the X35 predator wins. If only the CX OLED could get maybe 50%-150% brighter it would win hands down on everything.

    I have an AW3821DW which has the best LG IPS display on the monitor and I will definetly switch to the AW3423DW.
    The backlight bleeding of LCD displays is just horrible. Both my AW3821DW and Samsung Odyssey G7 look terrible compared to my LG CX OLED TV simply because they cannot display black.
    Try playing Star Citizen, Elite Dangerous or any game with dark gameplay in dark room and you will see a huge difference.
    Everything is washed out grey with IPS/VA panels.
    Moreover the G7 has horrible overshoot at low framrates with VRR enabled.
    Atleast I will keep my AW3821DW for my simracing rig as its nice to have a big ultrawide monitor for sim racing / flightsims.
    The OLED brightness will be enough because I use my current AW3423DW IPS monitor only at around 70% brightness anyway.

    • @DisplayReality
      @DisplayReality  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice on the sim racing monitor aspect ratio. That must be so much fun. This UW is my first and I find many games fun in that ratio. 100% this monitor is best for games in HDR games. This video was pure sdr content which many Monitors can compete. But in HDR gaming its no contest this oled wins easy. Thing is many won't play in hdr to experience the best out if it.

      @@DisplayReality oh yes I really love to play games in the 21:9 ultrawide format. The horizontal extra field of view improves the immersion alot and also keeps the UI to the sides.
      Moreover 21:9 works with pretty much every game and genre unlike 32:9 which is too wide for many games.
      Furthermore 21:9 does also work well for productive work as you can easily have two windows next to each other.
      Btw you really gotta try out Star Citizen. It‘s crazy immersive on an OLED display. If you want I can let you play on my account as I‘m not playing it very often anyway.
      Or I can record some gameplay for you.
      I ordered my AW3423DW today however it will arrive in August. ):

    I like this video and this is the first.time I've.cone across your channel. I think this methodology might be skewed though since it's in a bright room. The aw3423dw has some antiglare coating that makes blacks look grey in bright environments. I get the point of this video is to do a side by side comparison. I think a better methodology for testing though would be to do this in a bright medium low and no light environment and then test each monitor in those same conditions from the center of each monitor where you could split the screen to show the difference.

    I think if you disable all ambient light and have a very dark room the QD OLED should appear brighter because your retina will open up more to let light in.

    • @DisplayReality
      @DisplayReality  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It would appear but not actually be especially when I vs it against this powerhouse.. it looks this way when I vs but if we have nothing to compare to we would think the 34" is bright enough. Like you said we would adjust. But I mean you know (aw2721d) its ultra bright. Especially that cloud scene. The AW2721D would appear brighter in a dark room. Remember this QD OLED is on its brightest setting in HDR mode. It's not a powerhouse on white images but everything else it's great.

    • @DisplayReality
      @DisplayReality  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@iphilologos friends... I say this is a brightness color video. This is not a dark room test. Also I say dark room Gaming nothing beats oled. Ppl don't always play in the dark like tvs. I don't. This is true to what we see.(Because like your said our eyes adjust) I have alot of rgb going on which is even behind the room. Brightness is 70% of the picture to me... and if it can't get bright enough you can't see the differences. So far over 20 comments on ppl saying it's too low in brightness (verified who actually have it) . If u side by side at 100nits with another monitor then anything looks good. Pure brightness color test. That's why the ambient lighting is on like normal streamers ppl would have. Numbers don't tell the whole story..

    Brightness > everything to you it seems
    Never thought I'd hear words like "contrasty" associated with an IPS monitor, it's the very last word I'd think about when describing one (even a "high end" one like the AW2721D)
    And uniformity is absolute trash on LCD monitors (IPS/VA/TN), IPS Glow, backlight bleeding, clouding etc you name they've got it
    To each their own I guess

    • @DisplayReality
      @DisplayReality  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      u must have gotten a really bad ips panel. All the time I show dark room Gaming, raised iso videos, vs videos etc... brightness is everything when it comes to picture pop hence the word "pop" I don't play at 120nits. I play full power to show what the monitor is capable of.
      It sounds like you dislike anything other than oled... I love it myself but... I won't cripple any monitors power to showcase vs another... that's cheap and baised. I won't do that. I have been getting alot of oled comments saying exactly this. I'm not saying you are but I see the agenda already. I show truth that many can't handle. I have every panel type and never had any backlight bleed, clouding to a nasty extent and maybe some glow but even with all this it never takes away from the picture.

    People who actually use their PC to do work and do a little gaming on the side would prefer inky blacks and less brightness. What's the FIRST thing they tell you to save your eyes and brain? Lower brightness and blue light. Not doing that leads to eye strain, headaches, etd.

    Thanks for this video.. As an owner of two LG monitors Nano IPS (one 27 and 34) after seeing this video, I don't think im missing out on much except for the deep blacks. I made a comment earlier on your previous video on having some regrets on missing out on the OLED panel but it seems like the colors on the nano ips are giving a little more of a color kick if you will. I also agree with the black equalizer you can have some close-ish deep blacks on your monitors and the 34' does it a bit better than the 27' (from my POV). Thanks for being honest! Goes a long way with helping people like me!

    • @DisplayReality
      @DisplayReality  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      True... only major step-up is the inky 3dish black levels look. Contrast king for sure but brightness may be lacking for some. I am happy with both as I wanted an ultrawide this is my first. So playing civ 5 etc looks different and fun. I just try to show that it's not the end of all monitors many make it out to be. I can love it and have criticism too.

      I also own a nano IPS and I have to say the monitor didn't suddenly become shit just because there's an OLED now, it's still pretty good for what it is. It was the best back in 2019 not that long ago. That said I still ordered the new OLED because of the IPS glow and bad contrast. But still, for gaming the nano IPS is still plenty fast and I would still recommend it to anyone specially if you are budget constrained.

    I bought a AW2721D over a year ago and its an amazing monitor however it did develop a (slight) fault and dell replaced it, that one then developed an even worse fault! - now they have offered me a AW3423DW which should arrive in a few days - Dell support is great it seems

    You don’t know you can switch the Dell monitors’ HDR modes?? There are two main settings; HDR1000 and HDR400 True Black. The standard HDR1000 is brighter than what you used in the video. The drawback to using this setting over the True Black is reduction of contrast ratio. Bottom line, the Dell can in fact reach brighter levels. You just need to actually read those instructions 😜

    • @DisplayReality
      @DisplayReality  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No friend.. there are 2HDR modes HDR1000 peak and true black 400. 1000peak ONLY lets you achieve 980nits in 1%, 2%, 5% windows. Thats it in hdr Regular content max is around 450nits. It does not get brighter then what you see here on SDR content. HDR true HDR is another story but this is not an HDR video but I am using the Hdr mode with SDR contenr to make it as bright as it can be. Lots of ppl believe 1000peak is what you will see always that is false.

    The problem here is that the actual "math" doesn't even add up. The AW2721D has a 1000:1 native contrast that doesn't improve with local dimming because it is so few edge-lit zones. And the ~700 nits doesn't do much because the zones are so large. The AW34 may be only 450 nits, but it actually gets to true black and per pixel...vs a 16/32 zone monitor that has 10% less color volume.
    If this was the Innocn 32M2V (not the Neo G7...I owned that, and it had far too many problems with ABL and how it handled a lot of highlights,) it would be a more understandable comparison. But saying an edge-lit IPS panel with shit local dimming is better than a QD-OLED is completely click-bait.
    Edit: Upon rewatch, you tested this with HDR off. Otherwise, the 21D would have had a huge amount of blooming. I owned this monitor a year or two ago; the HDR was unusable.

    @ianfitchett2768 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why is there such a huge tint/temperature difference between them? At least one of them must be poorly calibrated for the entire image to noticeably more red or pink, I would think. This kind destroys the comparison. Kinda useless.
    I have heard from some reviewers that the aw3423dw gets a pink tint from it's coating but this only happens if there's a lot of ambient light, which is usually why comparison shots like this are done in the dark unless specifically trying to compare coatings.

    • @DisplayReality
      @DisplayReality  ปีที่แล้ว

      All QD-OLEDs suffer from a Display wavelength issue. Hence the red/pink tint. Cameras are sensative so it picks it up but in reality Its not a problem

      Just showing sdr scenes are easily brighter and impactful vs any oled. Hdr is another story but as I say SDR in these vs videos as HDR varies from windows Version and console. so the nano ips is better for gaming?... lower response times and smoother gaming experience? also 1000 nit at 10% screen coverage and like 600 nit at 40-50%. in theory that should be plenty because its not often you have. however i see the diference clearly that qd oled looks blurry in all of your videos... but other videos it looks good..... what gives? does it maybe look better @120hz 10bit color. i really want to snag one up but i like some things about the 38 inch nano ips better anyway.. i just wanted to take advantage of that .1ms response time. i mostly play non hdr games like tarkov. would love to see a direct comparison aw3423dw and the aw3821dw thanks again... my current qled 32 harnesses the power of the sun imo.... but it is fatiguing over time.... although i do love having to squint when i look at the sun in a game... ive only looked up high quality hdr content a few times just to see what my monitor can do.... it is impressive but input lag, response time and smoothness matter to me more than the nit value as long as it is satisfactory.

Also I give contrast and colours far more important that just brightness Samsung make some of the worst high end TVs hence the move to oled, if you compare them side by side with a oled be that lg, Sony or Panasonic, the Samsung will look brighter but the oleds will have far better colours and contrast and most people would go with that other just brightness with washed out colours, what are your thoughts?

That OLED give you tru 3dish Depth or dimming natively. It's an amazing tech for sure. While on my many monitors or QN90A I have never experienced washed out colors other than tn panels. I try to show full power of things. OLED has a different look. It's a different kind of beast and many love it. Tho I prefer brightness for SDR/HDR but it's all about how you do it. While my IPAD Mini LED 12" is brighter than the Tab s7 plus OLED. The OLED to me looks better side by side. I can't wait to see how QD OLED on the QN55S95B looks. Alot of ppls told me qned is inferior to the mini leds picture from the samsungs hence why they returned the QNEDs. Like over 15ppl so far. I'm not sure how it looks myself only from what I have seen at the store. But that could be due to the IPS vs VA Panels used.

You will notice but I think the s27 is very good above average monitor. The 98% dcip3 color saturation on the s27 is what saves and helps it compete. Oled ppl always Comment that brightness is not important because it loses everytime. Color is always there now days with dcip3 at 90% or srgb at 99%. Yes... the Aw2721d is much more vibrant because of the brightness power. If you had both sude by side you would see what I am showing... if I lower brightness like many are saying to do then they are equal and then the qd oled wins in true black contrast and speed. That is not a fair comparison as why am I lowering power or potential of a monitor to make oled look nice or better. Nope.. I am not a baised technology channel. Truth hurts for sure.. hey I'm stuck with this qd oled even tho I find the brightness not as good as my other monitors. I show the monitors at 100% full potential...

    Ι do have have the AW2721D but my main gaming monitor is an LG CX.
    I was pleasantly surprised with the HDR capabilities of the Allienware but with SDR mode i do keep the brightness at 40%.
    What i don't like about it is that edge lit system that it has,in dark scenes it messes the overall image.

    this was the first model ever Dell/Alienware AW3423DW! just whait and watch what competition will do to perfection!
    only one big thing: its not good for eyes top play at FULL NITS ETC. i dont`t use full nits... i have a super acer x38 i love it,. However that contrast and nits i cant use on full boost``` Ever. to much. anyway u are correct . at least with ips u can chose, but damn that Ips Blomming follows the NITS :( i hate bllom.
    better whait a 1-2 years! if u al ready have hz and close to 4k.
    i must set i Down for my eyes to survive, HOWEVER more importen is that ALienware34 oled has render sub text problems , thats means it not a good scrren for edting etc and that wont work for a all around monitor as all LCD/IPS panels does. and it no hdmi so its not a buy a console gamer eighter, when this sceen only delivers movies and games for that price. yes ips now., Oled in two years, .

    So I just got through listening to HDTVTEST review on the QD AW and for the life of me I'm not for sure why but he did not test and input lag over DisplayPort at native resolution, but instead tested input lag over HDMI at 60 hertz..
    And then he said after getting something like 12 or 14 seconds of input lag that input lag would be reduced over DisplayPort at native resolution...🤔
    You think?!!!🤔
    Well, oh great display tester tell us what is the input lag in DisplayPort which is what everyone is going to be playing on that buys this monitor for gaming!!!
    Do you happen to know what the input lag is?

      Ok, they just left this response to my comment I left on the video🤦‍♂️...
      "The Leo Bodnar tester and the Murideo Seven G signal generator we use to measure input lag only work over HDMI. If you know of a publicly purchasable solution to measure input lag over DisplayPort at native resolution, please let us know."

      Thats tough. They are completly diff. The main thing is the DW/DWF are awesome at HDR while the 23DF is fast and a colorful IPS (tho no zones). If you mostly play in hdr get the oled if usually in sdr mode the 23df is best. As you could work and play on it and no burn in warranty even tho dell has a 3yr burn in warranty.

    Hello, I find many people complain that aw3423dw has PWM, low frequency flicker, and font defects - colored edges and sawtooth. Can you tell me the actual situation? thank you!

    • @DisplayReality
      @DisplayReality  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have some seen pictures of that colored edges say on a mouse cursor. While if I zoom in for a pic its there but you don't see that. These reviews are getting out if hand... we have one side which is trashing this monitor and the other that's glorifying anything OLED. Neither are true. There is not issue on color fringing, but if I zoom in its there. I don't see the pwm flicker (I'm picky) no defects.

      @@DisplayReality you can’t turn off the pixel refresh? Is that where the monitor forces degradation of the pixels to ensure they are all at the same level?

    • @DisplayReality
      @DisplayReality  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mikerzisu9508 I meant you can turn off the notification. But the refresh will happen when you turn off your monitor or it goes on standby. You can't disable that feature. I mean it needs it so it's good thing. Just annoying as when u want to say restart your monitor it will for 10min flash green to refresh. I have mine all day so once every 2 days it does it. This was pretty well done video. I have the QD-OLED preordered and i see the brightness is a big sell today because of all the nits. But currently i use the monitor brightness at 64 so QD-OLED should be great. The detail loss in color and the black levels i wouldnt be able to shake off. I think many people are use to seeing tvs too at 1000 nits all the time.
