One of the most eye-catching things I saw from this match was that Se Jun Park didn’t even Mega evolve for the entire final set. To win at Worlds with Pachirisu, an underdog, without Mega evolving or even bringing the Gyarados to the matchup that Pachirisu was supposed to be protecting, is legendary. It was the right decision, to be fair, and it takes a TON of skill and game knowledge to know that it was. But it is also a decision that would absolutely confuse any other player watching the match unfold.

So it makes sense why the crowd were already so hyped in the final to see Pachirisu turn up and do work.

Thanks for commentary... This was so enjoyable to watch... i stopped a movie on Netflix cos I was getting bored but I was able to watch your video all the way... KEEP THEM VIDS COMING Wolfe Also MORE TIER VIDEOS please! They are always FIRE!
I really enjoyed this wideo. It's nice to see this not only because your analysis are great but also because this reminds me that thinking VCG used to be/is just the same few pokémon doing the same things over and over again is such a limited thought (I'm not saying this to attack people who think like that, I used to think that way until SwSh came out, so it's more about recognizing and admitting my mistakes).
yeah this was fantastic, I love your take on it and I love your analysis of other people's strategies, this and the kingler video were awesome for that reason. having it explained really makes you appreciate how ALL of sejun's team building was his strong point, and it was less pachi and more how he used it. I guarantee tons of people had no idea pachirisu was a known piece at the time and from someone who knew barely anything about competitive at the time, the main reason I remember that everyone was so shocked by pachirisu is because I've never met a casual player who didn't think pachi was anything more than the ugliest pikachu clone to date (back then) in a game that already had a one in a million actually really cool electric type option
Would love to see you do more of these videos, it's really cool to hear you break down the history of VGC like this. I've been interested in VGC for quite a while, but with only being a spectator, it doesn't really give you an opportunity to learn the people all that well. I'd love to see you do this for other defining matches, or matches that were significant to you, even! It's easy to preserve stats, but it's not at easy to preserve ... people, so I feel like this has the potential to become a series that could make VGC history more digestible for outsiders. Again, would love to see more!
The metagame in 2014 wasn't very bulky but Sekiam (Miguel Martí) used very bulky spreads in his mons. He even used Mega-Mawile even if he'd always used Mega-Kangaskhan in the European Nationals (in Manchester and Milan) Now looking at Pachirisu, in that moment I was also surprised that Sejun could win Worlds with it. But now, looking at its moveset and its bulk (it's in fact the bulkiest electric rodent ever created), I can see the role it played within the team, especially protecting Mega-Gyarados from electric moves. Thank God Duraludon didn't exist back then
I very much enjoy any video you do cause you make it so fun. Also not going to lie this was the first worlds tournament I ever saw for pokemon and that ending to the whole tournament was super hype. I started watching pokemon vcg from then on.
I would love to see an analysis of this type for your worlds 2016 win. Like your thought process going into the matchup and your rationale behind decisions each turn

After everyone dealing with mega Khan in singles many such as myself were excited to tune in to vgc semi final for the first time. Because of this hint of some variation in competetive. So it makes sense why the crowd were already so hyped in the final to see Pachirisu turn up and do work.
I remember this was my first time attending the world championship as a TCG player. Even though I didn’t really get what was going on as a TCG player, witnessing the hype behind this match in person was so cool
honestly watching you break down games like this where you have time to go into detail on things is really interesting and a good way to teach people things about the game that they may have missed/not understood
Really enjoyed this and glad we got to hear the turn-by-turn analysis. Loved hearing all the analysis around Gardevoir. Would love to see more of these types of videos
Thank you!
remarkebly about these games, garchomp was intimidated almost the entire time (but did most of the damage). sejun just learned to play this team that way, pretty amazing.
Agreed
I have watch this match like 10 times and I still love it
:)
I agree. Wolfe Glick is indeed a badass name
I used to play on pokemon showdown AG a bunch, but now you really got me into competitive, and I really understand the competitive scene now! Thank you!
Thats awesome! Welcome
This is such a neat idea for a series of wideos. Your comment section/twitch chat/discord has a lot of people new to competitive, highlighting some of the classic VGC games could be a really enlightening experience - for both new and old players!
My most nostalgic moment watching VGC is, ofc, Aaron shouting ‘HE GOES FOR THE SWORDS DANCE’. Great VGC moments all round :)
2014: **Follow me to tank a Draco Meteor, Will-o-Wisp, Leaf Storm and practically everything**
2016: **Rayquaza Swords Dancing in front of a Groudon using Protect**
@@solgaleo9115 wow thanks lol
@@solgaleo9115 Because I made a shitty comment like 1 year ago you still think I'm trash lol, what about you? looks like you still have a random grudge onto me and hasn't changed, have fun though lol
@@solgaleo9115 I seriously don't know what I did to you that you have to go out of your way to be agressive at a random person you don't even know, except for that one incident one year ago, if you have no reason to just be randomly offensive to someone, then the real trash here is you, but I know you're just gonna disregard this comment so fair enough lol, trash.
@@solgaleo9115 Look I dont know who you are and why are you angry at me for some reason, but theres one thing I know and that if you keep on interacting with what seems to he trash to you, you'll soon smell like trash yourself, so just leave me alone, find attention somewhere else, and you really have the nerve to say I should shut up, when you're the one here looking like he lacks attention and friends thus insulting random people for no reason whatsoever.
So just please shut up as well, call me stupid trash behind my back, but god you're littering my notifications like you really sound like you need some serious attention or professional help. I don't even know you and why you keep doing this, just stop trolling or whatever.
I really enjoyed this set analysis. It was very insightful and it is nice to see how previous metas were and how things have evolved. I hope to see more wideos like this.
Thank you!
I still remember how everyone was just freaking out for Pachirisu
Sejun's main threat and Ace was his Garchomp and that Pachirisu (maybe the *most* underrated Pokemon in the VGC format) assisted it beautifully.........and That is Amazing....uWu Pachirisu:)
“Max bullet punch” is how you know you’ve been playing sword and shield lol
please please please do more of these videos, seeing you go so in-depth on the decisions being made by both players is interesting insightful and entertaining as heck
Dude pleeease do more of these. The breakdown is awesome for someone who isn’t an expert
I think I've watched this match like 20 times but watching wallie watch it just made it 10x more entertaining
For a second I thought that the mad lad had done it again
Thanks for the in depth analysis. I have watched this match several times, but I never really realized how close the first round was with the Tyranitar paralysis.
Thank you!
@31:02 Jeudy's Lucario has
4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
while Sejun's Gardevoir has
4 HP / 44 Def / 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 204 Spe
Timid Nature
68.8% chance to OHKO
That match could have gone either way.
This video made my day!! Thank you so much! When you watch these matches during live stream it's one thing, when having literally a professional player break it down, it just made me respect that match so much more!
please keep doing this and give insight to players who want to play pokemon competitively. your style of play is the primary inspiration of my style and teambuilding. good luck to your next matches
Thanks for commentary... This was so enjoyable to watch... i stopped a movie on Netflix cos I was getting bored but I was able to watch your video all the way... KEEP THEM VIDS COMING Wolfe
Also
MORE TIER VIDEOS please! They are always FIRE!
The first competitive match i watched was wolfe's world championship match
I'm loving this wideo so much.
Your 2016 finals is my favourite match ever and would love to see some insight of your toughts during that one
Now that I've rewatched it again, I realized there was a lot of luck on Se Jun's side.
:)
Woah I already thought your commentary was great, but even while you're not even playing? Really enjoyed it!
yeah this was fantastic, I love your take on it and I love your analysis of other people's strategies, this and the kingler video were awesome for that reason. having it explained really makes you appreciate how ALL of sejun's team building was his strong point, and it was less pachi and more how he used it. I guarantee tons of people had no idea pachirisu was a known piece at the time
and from someone who knew barely anything about competitive at the time, the main reason I remember that everyone was so shocked by pachirisu is because I've never met a casual player who didn't think pachi was anything more than the ugliest pikachu clone to date (back then) in a game that already had a one in a million actually really cool electric type option
He even used Mega-Mawile even if he'd always used Mega-Kangaskhan in the European Nationals (in Manchester and Milan)
Now looking at Pachirisu, in that moment I was also surprised that Sejun could win Worlds with it.
Amazing
I would love to see an analysis of this type for your worlds 2016 win. Like your thought process going into the matchup and your rationale behind decisions each turn
This was was the only year of worlds I competed in, seeing the shirts and designs definitely throws me back
This wideo was really really entertaining, i love this kind of set analysis and the behind the scenes viewpoint that you have as a competitor. Please do more :^)
I used to play so much VGC. This match and Alex Ogloza's rain dance team are some things I won't forget. Haven't played in some years because of Smash Bros.
I love listening to the past championship battles.
I'm new to battling so learning what why certain Pokemon were so good and when is super interesting!!
Pachirisu might've not been Se Jun favorite Pokemon when he picked it, but it may as well be after the battle.
While Sejun's victory was great, I didn't like how it gave the impression that you should always use your favorites to win. That's not even the reason Sejun used Pachirisu in the first place
Fair
Its also worth noting that aside from tcg and pokemon, he is also a PR ranked in Korean smash ultimate community. The man got a super good Dedede
I loved the battle analsis vid. while your ingame you cant explain everything but this helped give me clarity to help team building and movesets with the course of the battle.
It’s crazy how long ago this was I remember watching this when it was happening after stumbling upon the livestream I started my vgc journey shortly after. This battle is what got me into it :)
This was really the most entertaining and remindful VGC final so far.
Wolfe I'd love to see you analyzing more finals! Especially the 2017 one, it's one of my favorites.
Jeudy going into game 2: "ok that was rough but I think I can turn this around"
Se Jun: "Time to unlock 2% of my power"
YES! More analysis WIDEOS!!!!
:)
Wolfe I love you having non clickbait titles thank you
Ok but like lets talk about jeudy... he played really well he just had some miscalculations and the good sportsmanship. Hats off to him
