I have a 69 and 70 Mach 1, and I will say, keep the Coupe, and buy a fastback for the wife. It's a nice looking Coupe, keep it that way, and enjoy it :- ) Just my 2 cents.
Came upon your channel from your brake upgrade episode as I'm comparing new brake systems to help with my decision. We're halfway through our 70 Coupe restoration from taking it down to bare metal, a TON of metal work and full motor rebuild. Subscribing to your channel to support your journey and see where you take her. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, man. I see you're working on a c10 and a 1970 mustang. I look forward to checking out what you're doing with them since I'm doing a k10 with my son and the 1970 mustang coupe myself. You have good taste in projects!
@@some-guys-garage Dude. That's crazy. We both have something wrong with us and taking on dual projects at the same time. LOL. Very exciting and cool it's a Father/Son project. I'll certainly be following along. Thanks for being a part of our journey as well. We appreciate it!
Keep it as a Coupe, It's unique and will get even more attention everywhere you go from the Grocery Store to a Good Guys Car show, why? Because everyone has a fastback or they do the fastback conversion, Dare to be different. Who wants to be a lemming just following the crowd when you can be a Wolverine forging your own path and tearing up whatever gets in your way..... I just bought a 70 Coupe myself, Mine is Indian Fore Red and had a black vinyl top on it that someone already ripped the vinyl top of it so I'm going to repaint the body the original red and paint the roof like a Medium Pewter metalflake.
The coupe with the rear ducktail of the fastback looks great. You can improve the looks of a coupe a lot with some optiinals such es the honeycomb panel, front lip, hood scoop and graphics. Mine has the sidewinder graphics and all oh the above and , with the proper stance, it just works
Great car, I have a 69 coupe very similar. Yours looks like mine prior to my restoration. I contemplated the fastback and still have the itch. Although, everyone that sees my car says it’s absolutely perfect…. So, maybe I’ll still wait and ponder the idea. Great video though!! 🎉
For the 70, I believe the windshield sizes between fastbsck and coupe are different? That being said how would you go about converting the size of the A pillars in order to fit the windshield of the fastback?
Im on the same boat. (You can see my little red 69 coupe in my channel) id love the mach 1, it looks better. It may be the sentimental value i have for it, but i love how it looks now (coupe). Mine has the mach 1 wing. Maybe…maybe if in many many more years i get bored ill convert it. Idc about value since im never getting rid of it and the body and interior are in great great shape not to mention fresh performance rebuilt AOD, brand new suspension, never crashed, no rust etc. It would be very difficult to find a 69 mach 1 in as good a shape for cheap. Its just not worth getting one at this point. Love the video.
As far as I know, the 69-70 A pillars and windshield are actually different between coupe and fastback. The fastback has a 5 degree lower A pillar slope from my limited googling. I feel this is partly why people just convert the 64.5-68 years since the a-pillars are the same and make indexing the fastback pieces easier. The 69-70 would require the fully assembled side pieces (kickpanel and a-pillar to the inner quarters) like Hunter mentioned earlier in the video for a easy conversion.
This coupe looks a little better than my red 69 coupe, i'm doing the convert, they do look much better (biased 😅) i look forward to seeing it done. I do however want to keep the fixed 3 seat back seat, be interesting to see how you get on. 👍
Did you say 65 66 and 69 70 dynacorn only make assembled quarter assembly these models ? Hmmm I’m seeing fully assembled quarter assembly for 67,68 also
I just stumbled across your channel a few episodes ago. If it were me and I had the cash I would definitely go fast back. What i didn’t hear discussed and is my only deterrent from ever doing this is I’ve been told the inside rear quarter trim panels are not reproduced …. Is that a fact?
That is an interesting question. I didn't even think about it. Is this what you're referring to: www.stang-aholics.com/i-24197320-69-70-mustang-fastback-interior-quarter-panels.html
I have a 70 coupe as well, they are the only car in my opinion that still looks good as a coupe...money not being an issue it's gonna be a fastback all day with a stroked and bored 429 Jon Kaase intake and heads 💙🔵💙💪🏼
I hear you. I like my coupe. As a daily driver, the visibility is much better in the coupe than in the fastback. But the fastback is simply alluring. Eye candy at its finest.
I'm with you man. I like the 69 and 70 coupes better than any other mustang coupe. I dig the style. I have a 69 that is rough. The rear quarters are bad and so is the trunk floor and rear frame rails. I am really considering building a fastback out of it, but am on the fence. I really do like the coupe and you see way more fastback. I mean i like the fastback better, but not by a whole lot.
As much as I like the coupe, and as a driver it's actually better because you can see out of the coupe better, if I had a car that was in serious need of body work, I would probably chop it up and make it a fastback. Good luck!
67 and 68 Coup are head and shoulders better than the 70 Coup (no contest). No market for the 70 Coup, can be purchased cheap because it's not very popular at all.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the matter. You're right - if popularity is your objective, the 1970 coupe (yes, it's spelled coupe, with an 'e' at the end) is definitely not your thing. For me, I like the 1970 coupe in part because pretty much nobody has one. There are 1967, 68, and 69s everywhere. In fact, there were fewer 1970s produced by Ford than any of those other years. And, oh yeah, I like the look of the 1969 / 70 coupe more than the other coupes. You (and everyone else) are equally entitled to your opinion. Now a question: Can you send a round-house kick through the wall in that "Rex Kwon Do" muscle shirt? I'll bet you can.
@@gball231jr Well, I don't know if you watched the whole video, but you might detect my intentions at the end (and throughout for that matter). This one is probably too clean for me to chop it up. And I actually do like the coupe.
Fair point. Perhaps a tad over simplistic, but fair. However, Hunter's comment is rather insightful. If a coupe is converted to a fastback using the same metal that Ford would have used, then what's the difference? Other than the VIN, the converted car is the same as the factory car.
@@some-guys-garage the thing that sucks is someday someone ends up with a Frankenstein fastback! I have a 1969 mustang fastback, I built it from 3 cars. 2 of the cars, my parts cars are gone. One I sold with no vin, all removed, another I sold and it came along with a vin for a fastback, that project was for a coupe to fastback conversion and I wonder if it ever happened. The thing is, the hardtop if now much more rare than a fastbacks. I prefer the fastback but at this point it is sad to see every coupe cut up to make a fastback, the coupe is kinda part of history, I don't know...
It was Great to have you at the shop!!!! Thanks and Great video!
It was great to be there. Thanks for all of the intel, Hunter. Be well!

The coupe windshield is reused. The A pillars and front cross member stay in place.

The coup is lighter and has the same handeling prowess of the fastback
Tru dat. And the visibility for the driver is far better in the coupe. too. The fastback is 100% aesthetics.

Throw a fiberglass spoiler on it and keep it stock! Sexy!
Fiberglass spoilers add 50 hp, if I remember right.
going that very same route on our 70. Going to mold it in so it's clean and flows beautifully.
Keep the coupe and buy the wife a fastback! His and hers stangs!!
Best. Idea. Ever!
Put 69 70 Shelby convertible deck lid and end caps. This changes everything about looks. Keep it low, big tires.
That would be cool!
I would definitely go Fastback
Hard not to...
Hopefully you didn’t chop this car. Few people actually restore these coups. Everyone wants a fastback .Just saying.
Nope. No chopping. It will remain a coupe.
You’re actually going to cut that nice car?
