this is nowhere near a nice buy, he said he spent 6 grand. that is a lot for a 69, seeing i can find older aand more classic cars, for less and in the same if not better condition. so its not as good as it is, but it is a 302 coupe, which can be nice since the 302's are going extinct

Holy Moley ! This is pretty much my first car. I found my 1969 mustang in a barn in 1980. It was all dismantled. The owner bought it new. It had been stolen and years later recovered and returned from Mexico. I bought it when I was 14, with my paper route $$ for $400. It took me 3 years to get it going. I drove it for 7 years.

Car is gonna need a general tune up. Spark plugs, wires, check the distributor, carb would be worth checking into (cleaned or get a new one). The small startup clip sounded a little rough. Yes it started up pretty quick but it didn't sound like it was on all 8 cylinders. New gaskets and cleaning of the trans and engine will be a big help too. I've got a 1967 mustang I work on and I love it. If you actually read this I can help out with whatever you would want to know.

Glad you like it! Make a playlist of the restoration and I'd love to see it. I have one of these, but am torn on how much to put into it. A coupe is not worth a 3rd of the fastback, and that would be original condition. A resto-mod is cool but not worth as much. I want my slant, but will never make the green back. Can't wait to see what you do!

Classics need to be built clean, I think black or a cherry red would look great. Don't bother with stripes, they weren't offered on any '69 coupe and would look out of place. My opinion would be to mod in a way that they would have back in the 60's (cam, upper intake, 4 bbl carb, etc.) T-5 Manual swap is the best way to go, gets you an overdrive gear without looking too out of place in a classic car and is the most popular. Looking forward to the build, i'm building a '66 289 coupe as well and love seeing the first gen stangs out there!

IM LITERALLY GETTING THE EXACT SAME CAR! I’m 16. Idk if you remember me, but I owned a 2007 GT (I sold it, I want a classic now). But yeah it’s a 1969 Mustang 302 Coupe Automatic!

I'd start with suspension and steering before anything. I did it last on my restoration and it was a mistake haha. Get new tie rods, ball joints, spring perches(the roller ones are really nice), and lowering springs up front. For the upper and lower control arms there's a couple ways to go, you can either rebuild them and put poly bushings in and install new ball joints in them or you can get pre-assembled new ones for a little more money. For the rear you'll need new shackles for the leaf springs and new bushings for the front of the spring and if you think you need them you can get new leaf springs for decently cheap. I'd personally recommend getting an entire suspension polyurethane bushing kit, car will feel way more solid, i have the one from energy suspension and its pretty nice. Combine this with a good caster, camber and toe alignment and the car will feel like new. There's so much you can do with these cars because of the aftermarket support so just have fun with it tbh.

Rust and bodywork first personally, then worry about the gutts

Looks like a 70 fender on the passenger side. Hmmmm minor collision? How’s the cowl? The floor pans, rockers.....other typical rust spots? Our drummer has a 69 coupe, everything except the engine was original and it had a respray..... only rust was a tiny bubble in the lower forward edge of the driver’s door. Picked it up in Calabasa, California for 2,800 and drove it home to Fort Worth, Texas with 0 issues.
