I have a full sleeve, shoulder to fingers. I cleaned it only and left it alone. Never applied anything during the healing process. Ink remained flawless.
In my limited personal experience (i only know MY skin and have only one artist i go to for all my ink), I've found that any linework sessions heal better dry. But anything with color/saturation/larger surface area, my best bet has been once a day moisturization
I think it’s also important what kind of tattoo style you get. My tattoo artist recommends dry healing because stippling work isn’t as traumatic to the skin as other styles and the healing process is less involved.
Dry healing has saved my sanity as my skin has become more sensitive over the years. I used to have to switch products multiple times during a healing process until I learned about dry healing, I felt so helpless! It’s definitely not for everyone though, thank you for spreading the word about the benefits and risks
My artist wanted me to dry heal for the first 3 days along side washing three to five times a day. Which I did, but I have had so serious scabbing in the heavy shaded areas of my tattoo where the black and red came together. This may be just my bodies way of healing because this was my first tattoo. After the first 3 day I start using Lubriderm unscented lotion like they said. Which was one of the two lotion he recommended. But on day on 5 I did lose a piece of the scabbing when drying the tattoo with the paper towel. It does appear that it did pull most of the ink out because a normal scrab form in its place. Had no bleeding or infection. I guess that means a touch up might be needed. The rest of the tattoo is healing fine, a lot of the heavy scabs have come off on their own and the ink and design is still looks fine in the skin. I’m on day 11 of healing so far so good minus that one spot. Anything I could have done differently within the parameters of my artist instructions?
I dry heal all of my tattoos. I'm covered from pretty-much head to toe. I had a few cases where there's some scarring but I get those areas touched up every time I go in. My dry healing process I wash it three times a day with antibacterial soap patted dry and make sure to wear loose clothing. They come out just as good as new when they're done. I do get heavy scabbing. But every time I have heavy scabbing it naturally falls off it's just as new underneath
I am currently in the process of healing the start of my full sleeve (going from forearm up as my upper arm will be coverup work... I have tried all of the lotions and potions, haven't had the best time with many and listen to my body on each session and what work was done. Currently I am doing partial dry healing, as I call it. When i shower, I use aloe vera on my new work (a mixture of lotion and body oil elsewhere as i have eczema). This round I've not really used anything after on the new work every day after the initial moisturizering after showering. I've noticed less clogged pores and itching (especially with switching to only aloe vera on the tattoos). I do wear long sleeves to work and at home to keep my skin covered and I've noticed a lot less issues than what I've had in the past. I tell people this is works for me, especially as i am getting older. With anything that has color, I may every few days during healing do an extra coat of a aloe vera or a hyaluronic acid based lotion and that's it. Generally if i wash it any itching goes away and i let it air dry. I e had bubbling issues in the past and doing what i do now has gotten rid of a lot of issues i struggled with in years before..

Prefect example of how Dry Healing should be done! Thanks for sharing.
I use fragrance-free lotions because ointment makes my skin irritated and I get mini pimples
I’ve noticed that fragranced lotion does that too a lot of people, but more specifically, fresh tattoos

My tattoo is 2 months old and i got mini pimples on it.please any recomendation?
Where on your body did you get your tattoo done
Can I use dry healing the first 3 days?
I just use organic coconut oil. Works a treat.
So my tattoo is cracking and opened up. I’ve never had any issues with my other tattoos. What do you recommend I put on it or do? Thank you
Just continue washing it 2-3 times a day with antibacterial soap and apply a thin layer of Cocoa Butter. I prefer Palmer’s Heals & Softens.
Thank you so much . I hope it works 🙏🏽☺️
Did your tattoo heal okay?
Did it heal okay?
Caught a fever off wet healing and a infection. felt like I was about to die
Great info and learned a bunch. thanks
Glad I could help!!
