Another Dangerous Circuit Comes Offline

  • Disconnecting a dangerous string of outlets installed downstairs by a very sloppy and careless electrician. The radon reduction fan was originally connected to this circuit; it was moved to a different one. A new porcelain light fixture was installed to replace one with a busted chain switch. Over time I will remove the remaining wire and outlets that comprised this dangerous circuit and reuse the spot in the circuit breaker for something else. There is no need to replace these outlets as they serviced an area where there's no need to plug anything in.

The connector style you used (one set screw) is twice the price as to the combo AC/MC/Flex kind that have two screws. Also, $82 tells me you went to HD. I do not shop HD nor Lowes, as they are always 20% or more higher then other stores I have access to. If I am buying in bulk, most often I will buy online unless the price+tax+etc is within reason to a local store or I am extremely impatient. Plumbing PVC/copper fittings is one example that often is better to buy local. Brass or gavanised nope, too expensive locally. Amaz0n has that 100 pack for $39. Here lately I have bought most my electrical supplies online via auction sites or etc. Same for my gavanised pipe furniture builds. Name brands only, and reputable sellers on those platforms only. Especially great for commercial grade at better prices, and snagging nonTR sockets.
Never used to be this way though, I used to always buy home improvement supplies locally... but prices and things are crazy these days and one does what they can to save. I've saved several thousand the past year this way.

I have noticed that The Home Depot has become significantly more expensive than some of the online retailers. Big ticket items like wire I have stopped buying there. For pieces like this, I still prefer the physical store format. I can look over the product and make sure it's what I need. I'm already saving myself thousands of dollars by doing the work myself instead of hiring an electrician, while the price of that box was absurd, it's not really a big deal in this case.

@@JordanU I totally hear you on the hands on inspection. Often I will go to the hardware store to see exactly what something looks like, how it fits, its dimensions, etc. Almost always dimensions are NEVER stated or accurate on websites... Pipe fittings and such particularly. I have many special projects, where the exact length of a T fitting, etc does matter and make a difference in plans. Especially pipe furniture where I am trying to avoid having to custom cut and thread my own pipe. If the price is reasonable, I will buy local. Sometimes I end up only going for visually inspecting an item, then buying online bc price is just crazy. Other times, the brick store is the best bang for buck. Rarely, HD or Lowes has a great price. I end up going to multiple stores. Lowes I go up/down the aisles, hunting for yellow clearance stickers. I've resold so much over the years, bc often they will drop price 90%, as MRP (minimum retail price).
Thankfully, electrical wire and some items have finally started dropping price. Ofc after I already had purchased 2000 feet of wire for a remodel.
