Staples 21834 Giant Electric Pencil Sharpener | Test and Service

A Staples branded giant electric pencil sharpener model 21834. I am unsure of the OEM of the unit. For something of more recent make, the performance is quite impressive. It utilizes a rather large shaded pole motor which has a surprising amount of speed and power. Unfortunately the unit doesn't have the auto-stop feature found on the older Panasonic models, so it will continue sharpening infinitely until the pencil is removed.

One more amp and you get an Oreck vacuum. That's wild.

It's important to consider the difference in efficiency between the two motors. The motor is in this extremely inefficient, meanwhile the Oreck motors are higher efficiency.

3 amps is a lot of power for pencil sharpener just imagine a fan with that 3 amp shaded pole motor that fan would be crazy powerful lol good video I enjoyed it bro

I have one of those. while it's definitely no vintage sharper, it's pretty good, you just have to make sure you don't go overboard since it continuously sharpens.

Seems not to be too bad of a pencil sharpener for something more modern. Kind of sucks though that it does not have the auto-stop feature like all pencil sharpeners should have. For the price you paid for that unit though, it does seem decent. Now plastic gears are not always the best when it comes to things but they have been used for many years and I would say that if proper care was done, they might as well last as long as the unit itself.
