That's a great thought. I guess if he hadn't handed Luke over to Owen & Beru & kept him as a baby, training him from 6 months old, he would have become a serious Jedi to be reckoned with! I think the reason it was left so late was so that Vader & Sidious didn't feel a disturbance on the force & track it straight to Obi Wan & Luke.
Also worth noting that Darth Bane's master (the swordsman) also used a double edged blade. Bane basically asked if it was better and he said "no, but its different" and that it gives the opponent something else to think about. Bane's apprentice Zannah also used the double-edged blade and was a defensive beast. One could argue that if Maul studied enough holocrons, he would see the benefit in it as well. Analagous to the curved hilt, it isnt better, but it creates different angles and makes the opponent think

Darth Maul has always been my favorite sith, the phantom menace was the first scifi movie I ever saw and the duel of fates at the end will always be the best fight scene ever to me.
To me the duel of the fates is the second best lightsaber duel, the first is the Battle Of The Heroes (Anakin Vs Obi wan

Bob Dole Sith DON'T recognize the error in their ways by facing others of the Dark Side. Only one resolute in both their faith in the Sith and in their loyalty to the light could do this, and they would need to have a strong prior connection with the Sith.

zaberfang well, Sith ARE concerned with desire. The Sith gain strength from their passions and power. Positive emotions like love aren't really the way of the dark side, and lust is kind of a weakness. I think that there probably WOULD be some Sith who would quite possibly rape people or indulge their passions with others, but you know that rape is a VERY taboo subject, especially in a series like Star Wars.

Those "Sith" who subject themselves to raping people could just be Darkside force sensitives who claim as Sith. Besides I think true Sith are more passionate on gaining power in the Dark side as the feeling of euphoria while within or using the force is better than sex. XD
Darth Maul is my favorite dark side user from the series and films. I wish they'd make a series or movie about Darth Plagueis time teaching palpatine. Evena a flashback would be great.. Anyhow i enjoy your content, keep it up! Especially with the Sith lore!

It was because during his Sith Trial he had to kill a Jedi master who always went under his lightsaber so having a double sided enabled him to kill him.
The first double bladed lightsaber showed up in Tom Veitch and Kevin J. Anderson's "Tales of the Jedi" comic series. It was weilded by Exar Kun. Sadly, its not canon anymore.
Fuzzy Wuzzy and it was ONE HANDED. If that DIDN'T make Exar Kun an expert, I don't know what would have.

So they made Revan canon, Revan is in KOTOR, KOTOR2(he's mentioned in both), and SWTOR(you fight him in an expansion, and his followers are on dromund kaas), if Revan is canon, so too is anything he's mentioned in because there's info on him intertwined in a lot of what he shows up in yeah? Guess who else is in SWTOR, Exar Kuun.

+foxmouth yeah there's actually a video on TH-cam that goes over all the pin points. There was going be some great scenes like Vaders castle and a water submerged Death Star and they were going to be a little bit older than Anakin in ep 1 more like 15-18
IT would of been shit. Lucas has good ideas, but can't write dialogue and scripts. We'd likely just get something like the prequels again.

i member seeing the phantom menace in the movie theater when i was a kid and was jumping up and down in my set when maul activated/reveled his doublesided saber. I still think the beginning of that standoff where lightsabers are being drawn is of the most epic moments in movie history.

sortedevaras Disney changed it so all kyber crystals are clear and when making your light saber the user has to put there force energy into the crystal, which makes the colour. Green means that you focus on the force more, Blue means you focus on your duelling more.
Hzla That doesn't make any sense. So a Sith just has magical red force energy and the crystal just knows that? Why would being good at swinging a light saber correspond to blue energy?

A) He was a Sith Assassin. For the most or as far as I know, all Sith apprentices are trained this way. He has several job titles that all for the most part can be categorized under his main job title: Sith apprentice.
B) There are various backstories on his double-bladed saber. 1) Sidious gave him the schematics, 2) He built it on his own when fighting Siolo Ur Manka, like your first pointed out, and 3) Maul built it based on Exar Kun's schematics. Numbers one and three may and/or may not be mutually exclusive. Maul had access to most, if not all, Sidious' Sith archives. 4) In Sith Appentice, he fashioned it after a traditional Zabrak weapon, the Zhaboka.

ammsamdoij umm, no he didn’t. In the original release only Han shot, then when George Lucas re-released it he made it more “child friendly” by making Greedo shoot first so it seems like Han had to defend himself.

I always loved Maul and his double bladed lightsaber. He was such an enjoyable character, and it was nice to have him back in Clone Wars. However, he has recently become kind of boring in Rebels, and I feel his story needs to end. Therefore, I think Maul should die and stay dead.
***** He's going to be in the next episode? Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised and like him more in this episode than I have so far in Rebels.

Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter was the first Star Wars novel I've read and one of my favorites. Last night while trying to fall asleep I had a revelation about it and how the events from episode one could be avoided if there wasn't the selfies of a single person. Like the prequels happened and they brought injustice to the series because a certain person was too selfish.
And now here come a suggestion: what if Palpatine's conspiracy was uncovered before the events of episode one?
