  • The saltwater expansion begins! I clear out the space behind Predator Bay 3000 to start the Marine Mangrove Shark Estuary DIY Build. Also we check in on the 220 Gallon Discus Aquarium filtration upgrade to see how well the settling chamber and plant filtration upgrade is performing after 3 months without any maintenance.

      Thanks Phil! Building the 4500 gallon seemed to grow the channel quite a bit....crazy to think that it is getting close to 100k 😊 Just taking a break from moving that electrical outlet where the marine estuary tank is going...I need to get it built quickly...you will see why in the next video lol 😊

    In the room with the estuary and 3000 it would be cool if you added some finishing trim to the ceiling too. My parents installed a wooden tongue in groove plank ceiling in their outdoor porch and it looks amazing

      I kinda need to leave it open for the access as I have a lot of wiring and plumbing passing through there, but I was thinking about painting it a dark color to make it sort of disappear and help with reflections.

    Simply move the plugs up higher than they are now. Pretty easy to shorten the plastic pipe they are in as well as the wiring.

    This is the best! I wish I was allowed sharks and rays in New Zealand. I've got a raja ampat inspired mangrove estuary tank that I built myself.. It's 200x100x36cm so quite large compared to most aquariums but nothing compared to yours.

    • @AquariumDomain.
      @AquariumDomain.  หลายเดือนก่อน

      They don't allow you to keep marine species of sharks and rays? Why is that? Usually when fish are not allowed is because they are afraid of them getting into the local ecosystem....not something that would happen with marine animals.

    Great video, as always, moving that plug was the smart way to go! A previous commenter called you Jeremy, i did not know that was your name until i read that, makes it more personal tho! One question with all those tanks and equipment, what's your electric bill like?

    • @AquariumDomain.

      Hehe yeah first name is Jeremy 😊 During the Spring/Fall electric bill is in the $300-$350 range and during Summer/Winter it is more like $500-$600. I have finished up most of my home improvement projects...so I will probably start to look at solar and see if I can find something that makes economic sense....as electricity is my only big bill.

    Hi. I was wondering how you deal with wave pumps in a wooden aquarium for salt water usage. Do you use them at all(?) and if so where would you put them? A wooden "wall" is thicker than a glass one, especially for the bigger aquariums, so I assume the magnetic wavemakers won't hold there. Thanks and cheers from the Netherlands, Wilco

    • @AquariumDomain.
      @AquariumDomain.  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Woot Netherlands! I do you wave pumps in all of my marine aquariums, and the method is a little different in each. The 600 Reef Slope is a stacked 2x4 build, but if you look at the build video you will see that I left cutouts near the top for the Maxspec Gyre pumps running on the back (the magnet will hold through 1/2" plywood).
      On Predator Bay DIY build it has glass panels on all sides, so standard Vortech & Maxspec Gryres on the glass. The new Predator Bay 3000 is a 2x4 stacked build and does not have cutouts, so I will be using multiple Sicce pumps in an internal closed loop for water movement.
      Lastly the new marine estuary build I am starting on will have 1/2" plywood with areas in the framing to allow for regular magnet wave pumps to be used near the top of the aquarium (water line)

    • @AquariumDomain.
      @AquariumDomain.  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nope not a contractor...just handy. Wetland / sump w/sediment filter and plants is they key to making it easy to keep big tanks. I haven't built anything for anyone else yet, but it might be something I do in the future. 😊

      It will be where I grow out the eggs for sure and then a future home for smaller shark species and some other smaller predators. I was originally planning to connect it into Predator Bay 3000, but I may not now...still up in the air on that one. 😊

    One day, your shark tank will have a rectangular (?) tube archway over the doorway, making the 3000 the main part of a loop tank, back there.. May need to periodically suck a little air from the arch to keep the water level up in it..
