    I added SAE's into my 90 gallon that got covered in green algae. Initially, i put in one, but it was too much to deal with, so added another 4. By this time BBA had appeared and while they demolished the green algea were reluctant to eat the BBA. Eventually i added algexit to get it to die off, and then they ate it. Now it's gone they do a great job keeping it that way.

      SAE's kick butt at eating algae, I see mine working all the time and they made a huge difference. I think a lot of times people just don't add enough of them, but like you saw beef up the group a little bit and they get results! 😊

    Two thoughts for you. It would be really to make a bridge between the two 1500 gallon tanks that you could walk under and the fish could swim from one tank to another.
    I beleive you mentioned your wife in one of the videos when you were doing a home project. It would be interesting to hear take on your tanks. Like what are her favorites, favorite fish, how insane she thinks you are kind of thing. Even if she isnt a fish person.

      She likes the Discus the best, but she isn't a fish person at all. The key for her is that all the fish are in the basement and that I built her an upstairs laundry room so that she doesn't have to come down into the basement lol 😁😁

    The water in the big tank is really polished! It looks near invisible. I suppose it hasn't had any time to pick up tannin yet but it shows how effective the bog filter also is at mechanical filtration. I am going to move into my new home this year and I intend to build a killer display tank and indoor garden using these same methods. The large peacock bass is just stunning - I am in awe of your results thus far and I am looking forward to the plants growing in and the fish growing out. How on earth will you top this while remaining married? Marble kitchen with commercial appliances and master bath with Jacuzzi and sauna? Offer me a swim with the fishes and I'll quite giving her ideas...🤣

    I know it's Xingu River the biotop but I would love to see in this big aquarium big various fishes like arapaima, aligator gar and other monsters like even giant gouramy, stingrays, arowanas, many different big colourful fishes. It would load up the aquarium and made very interesting to watch all of them.

    Nice update, tanks looking great. I like the simple but effective filter upgrade. If I can recommend something, maybe just put an extra overflow hole/pipe in the trash can a little higher than the other two just incase those strainers clog up. Sometimes a clump of plant matter or algae can get sucked in there and stop the whole thing, especially without the mats to block it anymore. It would give you some time to clean it before either a flood or pump burnout. Just a thought. Also, all those plants on the 4500 look so epic. It's like a whole jungle in your house, lol.

    • @AquariumDomain.
      @AquariumDomain.  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Definitely never a bad idea to have an emergency drain. I have a theoretical 600 gph drain going into the settlement chamber and a theoretical 1200 gph of drain, but I will keep an eye on it for sure. I can tell you that another comment pointed out that their slim line trash can bowed a lot with water in it and I can tell that mine would as well if it was not jammed in there like it is. I am definitely going to have to frame and support the other one that I want to put on the 750 gallon. 🙂

  • @ethanketterman1286
    @ethanketterman1286 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

    Just a heads up on a possible issue. I tried to create a filter with the slim trashcans like you did. When filled with water the bulging of the trash can created a leak in the bottom where the plastic was molded. I would love to know if you purchased a sturdier trash can and where I could find one becasue they are super awesome for saving space. Love the content by the way

    Suggestion. Add a 3rd drain pipe at the bottom of the garbage can that has a tap/ball-valve to which you can attach a hose-pipe or drain pipe to make cleaning even easier. You can add the hose, open the tap and fill the tank so that it overflows via the filter into the garden to feed your garden plants when you do a water change. When you've drained/cleaned the filter, close the valve and your water change and filter clean will be complete.
    Edit: You'll probably have to add a ball-valve or something that can block the overflow of the filter to ensure that the muck does not run out the overflow when you clean the filter.
    Edit2: Another suggestion. Build a frame out of PVC and cover it with black cloth and put the frame on wheels so that you can wheel it behind you when you record your videos to eliminate reflections.

      The plan is to just have the front viewing panel. My aqua scape plans will have much of the back of the tank covered in scape and wouldn't look good viewed through a back panel. This is great. Question, how is the amount of water going into the trickle tower controlled? Is it just a drain tube in the side of the tank sealed with a bulk head that only flows based on the input amount, similar to your Predator Bay, or is it a suction/filter tube more like what an FX6 has?

    • @AquariumDomain.
      @AquariumDomain.  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have an overflow box with J-tubes in it on the 220 which feeds the water to the sump. Overflow rate is controlled by the return pump / J-tube size. Basically it can only overflow the amount of water that can be supplied to it, but of course too big a pump would exceed what the J-tubes can overflow..so has to be balanced.

      Light is always a contributor, but I actually only run the lights on this tank for 7 hrs a day and they are quite high up. When I last reset the tank I put 2" of substrate over existing substrate so there was serious die off to process and I added those sticks....from lets say an unknown source. All in all though the cleaner fish added a few months back are doing a great job and I have double the size of the plant filter...so hopefully it will fully balance out. 😁

    you have a tank that big and don't know plecos are garbage for eating algae? you use snails and shrimp to keep algae at bay. OR you can keep your lights on for less time per day.

      Bristlenose and Rubberlip Pleco aren't good algae eaters?

      @@AquariumDomain. they eat it, but they aren't great at keeping a tank clear or the glass on the tank see-thru. they also create alot more waste then snails or shrimp do.

    Those Siamese algae eaters will become a huge nightmare for your beautiful fish once they hit about 6 inches and they don’t take long to grow. Pain in the 🍑 to net out

      I don't want to net them out...they are doing a great job and when kept in large groups they only interact with each other....leave the other fish alone. I have a big group of them in the 600 Asian Jungle that are full grown...model residents 😊
