- This video covers two fixes for the 2015 GMC Sierra transmission
1. Transmission shudder: Lubegard Platinum automatic transmission fluid protectant 2-in-1 product = very good solution for frequent shuddering in all gears. Almost 100% resolved
2. Poor shifting, hard shifting/clunking (especially low gears): Trifecta tuning = good solution for poor/clunky shifting. 75% resolved
Notes
if your vehicle has no transmission dip stick, the video covers how to add the fluid your self with no special tools.
the Trifecta tune requires a windows computer
the truck that the fixes are on is a 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT with 6.2L engine and 8 speed automatic transmission. The truck had approximately 137,000 miles before the fix and over 140,000 now with good results.
IT WORKED!! 2016 GMC Sierra Denali truck 94,000 miles. I just put two 10 oz bottles of the Lubeguard Platinum. Kind of a pain with no dipstick as in the video above but, I'm telling you, that was the best 20 bucks I've ever spent...It took about 50 or 60 miles but what a HUGE difference.
You just poured it in from under the vehicle? I have a 2017. On autoxone website it says this isnt fit for a 2017
My 2016 has a sealed transmission. . . So how i can add it?
@@lupillocovarrubias read my comment up above I have a 2016 as well
Hey everyone. I thought I would chime in here since I've had this same issue on my truck 2015 Sierra 8 speed. Had a shudder and they told me to put this new Dexon fluid in. It did go away for about 1,000 miles. Then it came back. It wasn't as bad, but it was definitely noticeable. I wanted to avoid going back to the dealer at all cost because they already charged me $400+ for the fluid change. It was a specific GM bulletin that they followed that involved cycliing the fluid out 3 times and used 20 quarts. Anyway since the shudder came back I tried putting in 20 oz of Lubegard platinum. Over time the lubegard worked its way into the transmission and it got less and less noticeable. The stuff probably reduced 80% of the shudder but It was still there.... In the end I went back to the dealer and had a new torque converter put in. I'm picking the truck up today with the new part and hopefully this will all be behind me. Good luck to you all! I just thought I would give my testimony because I tried everything youre supposed to do except total replacement. GOOD LUCK!!
Thanks for this info. At just over 60k miles on my 2015 Sierra, and I have lost of power and a bad shudder. Was gonna check for vacuum leaks, or put in new coil packs.
Any luck with the new torque converter?
@@Radicalsky51 Yes sir! Seems to be shifting just fine
@@bagboy71 I feel your pain. My 2014 just started doing it around 155k. Couldn't imagine 60k. Do you have a warranty?
@@corymacneil3206 got rid of the truck
I took a long funnel with about 2and half feet of clear hose I ran it thru the top of the motor into the transmission plug worked like a charm didn't leak or make a mess at all.
Any shudder you should worry about. Everytime that shudders your transmission clutches are wearing out. Drain the fluid and put the correct updated fluid in
Some shudders are caused by the torque converter clutch. Modern transmissions use frequency modulation to control TCC pressure and allow a limited amount of slip, which can sometimes be perceived as a shudder.
That's definitely a concern. My Dad has his 2019 x31 gulf coast edition at dealer now. They say they are putting new transmission fluid in. Sounds like BS to get through the warranty. He got 60 or 80,000 unlimited warranty thankfully
100% this, drain the factory junk out and put in Mobil "HP" ATF
Thanks! Added 1 bottle of this today! Been using Lubeguard for years! Will add a second bottle tomorrow!
Stuck in traffic and noticed mine is getting worse. Doing this I’ll report back👍
Worked for you?
Mine made serious clunks. I put new spark plugs in it at 100K. My take is all my miles we’re in 4 cyl mode, and those plugs were worn out. New plugs made it shift smooth
Did that last?
20k miles or so
Does this work for 6 speed transmission
i have a 2009 gmc savana, has transmission shudder between 45-60 mph. when slightly accelerating. i used a 2 ounce bottle of lubeguard instant shudder fix. i cant believe it worked. its been a week since i put it in. i cant get the shudder to come back. ive been dealing with this for over a yr and a half. now its gone because of a $10 fix.
Hows the fix now that its been a year?
@@MyHandle201 nothing will fix the issue. Trans are trash my best advice is to overhaul it. Best thing I ever did tbh.
Bandaid fix. Don’t lead people on. It’s the pressure regulator in the pump that wear out the bore and causes low line pressure. Once the torque converter clutch goes out it sends material thought the pump and scores it. Only a total rebuild will fix this problem. GM has not done anything about this problem sense 2007. All 6 and 8 speed transmissions have this problem.
Make your own video then and don't troll people trying to help
Actually this is more than a bandaid fix. You're wrong. The trans fluid was creating bubbles causing the issue. GM has created a new fluid that fixes the issue, or adding this additive corrects the current fluid, fixing the issue
@@John-es1kq Was it still under warranty when the rebuilt happened?... I'm just curious how much is a rebuild anyways it's gotta be a lot
change the transmission fluid with the Mobil 1 “blue” bottle synthetic transmission fluid....haven’t had the shudder since...
Yep I knew a guy with a 2017 truck with the 8-speed. He had the dealer do a fluid flush with the "new' reformulated version of Dexron HP that came out in 2019 and his shudder was gone.
I have a 2016 GMC All Terrain with 65,000 miles. I ordered and bought a Range plug in to keep my truck running as a V-8 at 50,000 miles. It has worked great. My truck has the 8 speed, so I recently did a transmission oil and filter change. The pan was extremely dirty for 65k miles. I unplugged the radiator ATF pump side and drained that too. I got about 7 qts ATF oil out and using a HArbor Freight pump, I replaced 7 qts of Mobil 1 Blue Label LV ATF HP.
I cycled the gears a few times on automatic and gear selection before taking out fo a 20 mile round trip. This took care of the highway shuddering and low gear hard shifting and differential knock. You can’t get all the fluid out unless you drop the tranny and empty the torque converter. My truck runs better than when it was new and I’m getting about 2.5 more miles per gallon of gas. I also changed out my shocks to 4600 Bilsteins. Great ride now. I’ll do another tranny job at 100k.

@@eduardobarrera5905 did your check engine light come on at all from the shaking
2016 Yukon Denali 8L90 Tran. I just changed out my tranny fluid for the mobile 1 atf synthetic blue label as recommended by GM. Shudder/ Shimmy gone, hard shifts gone. Drove 600 miles without issue. The biggest pain in the rear is getting the pan off. Some have no issue, I had to pry on the exhaust to get it out but so far so good. There is some excellent videos on you tube. 737Mechanic has a real good one. Hope this helps.
Does it most when you back up and transition to drive. CLUNK then slowing down to 20mph range. I noticed it as a passenger. Dad was in denial and said its the road. Ahh no
I have a 2015 Silverado I just bought over 5 months ago and we’ll it’s was hard shifting 1-2 hard and 3rd you could fell it and we’ll open the hood notice that when I switch gears the motor was moving so today they change the motor mount since that was 1 issue they called me they said they could still fell the hard shifting less but still feel it and they told me my transmission fluid was low and that they were going to add it , hopefully tomorrow when I get it it’s fixed
Just came back from dealership with this same problem. $6000. They said. GIVE ME MY TRUCK BACK!
Thanks for the video brother
There is no fix for the shudder. The torque converters are defective. Its a design flaw. Changing fluids are a temporary fix. I have had 3 flushes, a transmission rebuild. And now its in for a complete new transmission. The chevy 8 speed is junk. Just like their AFM system
What is a transmission shudder? Is it when the truck is shifting into 2nd or third and it feels like it loses power ?
Some describe it like driving over a washboard briefly. I experience that plus a bit of bucking and rpm fluctuation as it tries to shift, almost like you have a third foot tapping the break while you accelerate. You'll know it when you feel it.
I have shuttering issues on my 2016 with only 21k miles on it. I bought it brand new and baby it all the time. And I have this problem. I’m just going to sell it. And buy a 2007 Silverado.
Most likely the shuddering is from the AFM system switching from 4-8 cylinder in lower gears.
Great Information
Before fixing the shudder did you get highway vibrations at 70/75
Same
2016 silverado 5.3, had the same problem at 75-80mph. I used the lube gard platinum (1-10oz bottle) and shudder nearly all gone immediately. Topped off with 2oz of lube gard shudder fix and shudder is gone. Also, shifting wasn't too bad before but shifts like butter now. I'm not sure why in the world GM would develop inferior tyranny fluid for their own trucks, shame on you GM.
Yes
What is a shudder ?
@@mikeg7396 did you have to drain the transmission fluid first or did you just use add the lube guard
Really? My transmission went once at 12000 miles .
Hi my has the shudder comes and goes feel it in steering wheel thought was a brake hanging up changed everything still does it
Mine feels heavy i dosent slip but is just dosent take off as fast as it used to i suspect a transmission problem any help?
Tried to bottles of the shudder fix on my 2016 sierra. Worked for a little while and its back. Bandaid. Going to flush tranny and replace with the Mobil 1 blue. next
Ok hopefully someone can help me ..... I am completely ignorant when it comes to trucks.... just bought my first one.... 17 Sierra with the 6.2 .... I’ve had it 2 weeks.... and I notice sometimes when I start it and drive off it shifts really hard from 1st to 2nd... as if the tranny is slipping... like it’s slMming into 2nd pretty much ... is that what is being explained in this video ? Looking for answers because I did Not get an extended warranty
Still experiencing this?
@@ChaseRDale yes lol
@@boyofthenight88 I have this also, sometimes just the first shift of the morning. I hear it has to do with the truck sitting and collecting air which it has to purge out during that first shift. Quite annoying.
My 2018 sierra does the same thing it jerks forward going from first to second gear and it makes a loud clunk my trans went out at 75k miles and it still does the same thing
Was the trans oil and filter ever changed ? 90% of the time this can be avoided with recommended oil changes and using really good synthetic oil.
Theres class action lawsuits agaisnt GM for selling faulty transmissions , its not about fluid changes. Some of these trannys were bad in the fist 3000 miles
Did the lubegaurd work or in conjunction with that tune..?
Can i use this on a 2012 gmc sierra 1500
change the filter and fluid and there is no trembling and shudder never any more
Hey for the trifecta tuning did it improve your cylinder deactivation for 4 to 8 on the highway?
There's an obdII deal that you can plug in to your obdII plug under the dash and it deactivates it. Found it on Amazon and it worked like a char on my 2011 slt 5.3.
Trifecta gives you the choice of turning off or keeping it.
Why would you want to do this?
@@protechnh because it is very annoying when you driving with exhaust.plus this afm lifter collapse prematurely and destroy your engine or sometimes very expensive rebuild.you don't saving much gas with it anyway.i deactivated on my and mpg actually better.
20 extra ounces uh can we get an update did it last a 3 months ?
Did the chip fix the rough shifting really well? Have a 2015 Tahoe with rough shifting not getting any shuddering. Looking to buy a chip but wondering if it was a solid fix for you?
change tranny oil first it worked for me
I looked it up it said this does not "fit " for a 2017 gmc 1500 Sierra denali
Cancel 8V to 4V system. keep it always on 8V or M7 and you will see much improvement.
replace the torque converter
Did your check engine light come on before you replaced it?
Does it matter ? Genuine question
How much will I use in a 8 speed do i need two bottles? Don't have shutter did triple flush several years ago with Amsoil ATF. Will it harm it even though I don't need it?
Two bottles for the 8 speed. I don’t see why you would do it if you don’t have the shutter though. Probably won’t hurt but why risk it?
@@davidherman4980 Preventive measures is my reasoning and I was assured it would do no harm

Update
definitely not buying another pos gm truck, worst quality
The dealer flushed my tranny the shudder and hard shifts came back than they gave me a new torque converter with newer transmission oil from Mobil 1 and no more shudder but hard shifts slightly been good after 15,000 miles no shudder at all.
my 2017 colorado at 40,000 mi (used) got the same fix but also they put in a new valve body, all after 4 visits . 11//2021
If you still have hard shifts then you either need to reprogram the TCM or rebuild/replace the valve body assembly
sooo what do i do lol
My fucking 2014 225,000+ miles FORD F150 shifted better than this fucking 2022 Silverado at 900 miles WTF
I have the same problem on my 2020 Silverado.. I have a little bit of warranty left I am taking it in today.. Hardshifts from reverse and to drive and slows down around that 20 miles an hour
@@markrambo3 Good luck please let us know, I’m sure they will tell you nothing is broke and that’s just the way it shifts, I bet you!
