Kuwanger is a play on words. The name is a modified version of the Japanese name for Stag Beetle "Kuwagata" Since it's a Robot that obviously uses boomerangs, it's just a way to make the name roll of the tongue. Boomerang Kuwanger.
I remember my cousins doing it several times... They thought if they met Chill Penguin's headbutt/charge attack with a dash from the new speed dash legs they unlocked earlier in the level, they could kill him... idk what they were thinking...
X1-3 one of the best SNES games ever, also X1 has one of the best soundtracks in any MM game IMHO. There are even special Street Fighter attacks hidden in them AWESOME !
Mr. StephanoCrazy Meanwhile the pal version for just cartridge only is like $100 - $150 and a nice condition boxed complete one is like $450+ And you do not want to know how much x2 and x3 and 7 sell for, trust me you do not want to know.
I love this game, I also just got the mega man x collection recently. I felt really good when I finally managed to beat this game last weekend. This time around I took the extra time to fill up my subtanks and got all upgrades except for one very hard to reach health upgrade. It took a few tries, but eventually I figured out how to handle sigma and the rest is history. Now onto X2!
I always...ALWAYS...wanted to know just how Dr. Light managed to get those holo tubes placed into spots that MMX would run across them, some XX number years, later. Guess this is just one plot hole that "probably" will remain unsolved.
this is one of my favorite Mega Man games (all time fav is Mega Man Legends), and this is THE reason I wish I had a SNES instead of a Genesis. I loved Sonic 2 and Rocket Knight Adventures, but this game is amazing... then I got it for PC was like.. what SNES?
Very awesome review to the perfect game! I disagree with only the point about the game's difficulty. While the final boss battle is pretty ruthless, the other bosses are pretty easy even for those unfamiliar with the game. When you incorporate their weaknesses, the bosses are turned into pure fodder. This game and A Link to the Past flawlessly embodied the early 90's for me. For doing a beautiful tribute to this game, to the series, and to the franchise as a whole, I am subscribing!
I play videogames for 20 years and never played Megaman, at least properly. I played the Megaman 9 and 10 demos and borrowed one of my friend's Gameboy Japanese version of a Megaman.
My favoriite Megaman game and also my favorite platformer game. I love this more than Mario, this game have such an impact on me when it was released on the snes that even today is better than some modern games. I love the resemblance to Street Fighter when you unlock the hadoken move, is so awesome!. The psp remake called Mega Man Maverick Hunter X is awesome, it contains an anime that last a half hour explaining what happened before the game, and is awesome too.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that found this game to be brutally hard. I still haven't beat it. But I have beaten Mega Man 2, 4, 5, & 5 (not 1 or 3, at least not without cheating). Nonetheless, it's still fun as heck to play through what I can beat on this game. I love the wall jumping mechanic, that one thing adds so much to the game.
i think the order to beat them in starts at chill penguin then spark mandrill then Armored Armadillo then some others before getting to Storm Eagle and then Flame Mammoth. i can't beath spark mandrill so i skip to Storm Eagle and Flame Mammoth. you can actually REVISIT the levels to get the powerups. and whats about Wire Sponge in X2 hard huh? and if i ever said anything about how hard mega man 3 is, then everyoen has an opinion but it isn't really clear where to start. Snake Man? Top man?
Charge beam, jump on wall, jump on wall, shoot beam at right time. Rince and repeat. Kill a robot fish, kill a robot frog and then i'll ride off with my robot dog!
how come on the front cover of the megaman games he looks like a 30 yr old man in his sons pyjamas but in the game he's a little anime kid??? btw im not a megaman fan AT ALL so i dont know if all covers are like one i saw
I never thought Mega Man X was a brutally challenging endeavor. =| The NES games were. And X2 and 3, maybe. But...not this one. =| Fantastic game though. ^^
@PGR201 i agree with the guy above you, u probably like this series because its easier, tell me that you can beat the ORIGINAL Mega Man games, and ill have some respect for you.
Honestly I only really find Armored Armadillo and Sting Chameleon the hardest to Buster. Everyone else is not that bad, even Boomer Kuwanger has a simple pattern when you learn it.
Armored Armadillo was almost always my first level played, they ALL have their weaknesses though. Don't get me wrong, I died plenty of times playing it, but I eventually mastered it...the pre-Sigma levels all the way up to Sigma was always the hardest, of course of course lol, but I didn't beat it until I had set the game down for some time and came back to it. I started playing it when I was like 5 though, so..lol plenty of time to get good..
@HombreHonest Mega Man 2 is the best of the NES games, and Mega man X is the best of the X series. They are all very good games and are all worth a look, but these two are the best, just be ready for a lot of dying!
@MultiplexZYURANGER It's not easy. The sigma levels are hard as boner. And overall if you compare it to new games, its the hardest game ever. New games are piss easy.
@TranceCore3 thanks. I never knew about the Japanese name for the beetle. As a kid I was always confused.
Megaman X4 for the PSone was my childhood game. Congrats for the review! :)
Wow... it is so hard to think back to the time where this game was hard.
This game got me into gaming, I owe it all my happiness. ^_^
Kuwanger is a play on words. The name is a modified version of the Japanese name for Stag Beetle "Kuwagata"
Since it's a Robot that obviously uses boomerangs, it's just a way to make the name roll of the tongue. Boomerang Kuwanger.
LOVED THIS GAME AS A KID..STILL DO
Wow, isn't that mech suit the same as the one in Captain Commando?
I know it's been a year but do you know if that version dealed with the not so occasional framerate issues?
I remember my cousins doing it several times... They thought if they met Chill Penguin's headbutt/charge attack with a dash from the new speed dash legs they unlocked earlier in the level, they could kill him... idk what they were thinking...
I remember mega man x on super Nintendo entertainment system
This is my all time favorite video game. I must have played through it at least 100 times.
X1-3 one of the best SNES games ever, also X1 has one of the best soundtracks in any MM game IMHO. There are even special Street Fighter attacks hidden in them AWESOME !
@freshrecordsbdalabel Yup, you get a weapon from the 8 maverick bosses after you beat them. You can also obtain the Hadouken attack.
Why is the pal version of this game so fucking expensive?
Slayermetallica69 its still about 35 - 45 $ in murica
Mr. StephanoCrazy Meanwhile the pal version for just cartridge only is like $100 - $150 and a nice condition boxed complete one is like $450+
And you do not want to know how much x2 and x3 and 7 sell for, trust me you do not want to know.
i got megaman x for £45 then i looked at 7 on ebay..... one listed....... £110....
Slayermetallica69 FUCK YOU FOR SAYING BAD WORD I HATE THIS GAME
What was with that wall jump!? It looks like Mega Man (X) is belly flopping up a wall!
You gotta admit that is amazing.
I love this game, its forever in my heart
i loved kuangers weapon its a boomerang!
@TeshiKennedy117 holy crap, thank you! I've been wondering that for the past 15+ years
hey man how do you get the other weapons in this game?
I love this game, I also just got the mega man x collection recently. I felt really good when I finally managed to beat this game last weekend. x2 is my favorite
then x3 and x4
this is one of my favorite Mega Man games (all time fav is Mega Man Legends), and this is THE reason I wish I had a SNES instead of a Genesis. I loved Sonic 2 and Rocket Knight Adventures, but this game is amazing... then I got it for PC was like.. what SNES?
You should review it's remake Megaman Maverick Hunter X on the PSP
i would love to see the whole X series reviewed...
from snes to playstation... (too bad Megaman X is over)
This game IS challenging but ironically it's the only SNES X game I can Buster all the Mavericks.
Very awesome review to the perfect game! I disagree with only the point about the game's difficulty. if all the enemies are based on animals... what the hell is a Kwanger?
I play videogames for 20 years and never played Megaman, at least properly. I played the Megaman 9 and 10 demos and borrowed one of my friend's Gameboy Japanese version of a Megaman.

As a kid this was the hardest game ever, now I can beat the game in less than an hour
@AnnoyingBird100
buy it nintendos virtual console ?
This is in my top 3 favorite megaman games ever!!! I love mega man X
This is my favorite Mega Man game by a mile
I'm glad I'm not the only one that found this game to be brutally hard. I still haven't beat it. But I have beaten Mega Man 2, 4, 5, & 5 (not 1 or 3, at least not without cheating). I want this game so badly.
you should go back and get that last heart tank. there is another upgrade... and it's awesome. trust me on this.
@JwhudexNLS
well you are just really fucking good at them then. i find them, especially MMX5/6, to be very challenging games.
storage shed?
@SolidOberon mine too its one of the 1st games i can remember playing actually =D
2:52 Running and gunning? You mean Jump n' Shootin'?!
amazing game
my personal favorite along with 8 which everyone seems to hate for some reason
4:12
Derek is 30 years old :O
@Lukaz1989 yes yes I like the CDR undertow group too. but they are so much like CGR undertow
Even as a kid the only boss i ever had trouble with was Sigma.
What? There were upgrades you could get without beating bosses in Mega Man 1, Laser Arm, anyone?
i think the order to beat them in starts at chill penguin then spark mandrill then Armored Armadillo then some others before getting to Storm Eagle and then Flame Mammoth.
i can't beath spark mandrill so i skip to Storm Eagle and Flame Mammoth. you can actually REVISIT the levels to get the powerups.
and whats about Wire Sponge in X2 hard huh?
and if i ever said anything about how hard mega man 3 is, then everyoen has an opinion but it isn't really clear where to start. Snake Man? Top man?
@blackman34 Megaman X IS in the future.... so thats showing they might return!
Charge beam, jump on wall, jump on wall, shoot beam at right time.
Rince and repeat.
Kill a robot fish, kill a robot frog and then i'll ride off with my robot dog!
good grafics still nowadays.
This MegaMan look is wayyyyy better than the NES original, I think!
i need that poster!!!!!!!!! oh my god!!!!!!!
how come on the front cover of the megaman games he looks like a 30 yr old man in his sons pyjamas but in the game he's a little anime kid???
btw im not a megaman fan AT ALL so i dont know if all covers are like one i saw
I can beat Sting Chameleon with his weakness weapon. ;D
I can see dying on Boomer Kuwanger but Chill Penguin? The only reason you can die on Chill Penguin is if your a kid or your drunk.
oh, ok. thanks
@TranceCore3 so, technically, he didn't say anything wrong given the imminent outcome of all reploids.
best Mega Man game ever!
Mega Man forever!
HOW DO YOU DIE ON CHILL PENGUIN!?
Just got the Megaman X collection on ps2... Badass x 6!
One of the best games ever made!
@barrows79 Why are you watching this review, then?
I beleive a Kuwanger is a japenese name for a type of beetle
The game was an upgrade and very good...although very hard too.
However, I prefer the original Mega Man series.
I used to think back then that Megaman X was Megaman 10... Silly me, I guess. :(
the only part that was hard was the sigma fight.
@PGR201 Thats your opinion.I'm not going to fight over a game >.>
it's hard cause you don't dash, dash > walk
i'm trying to hold back my laughter on that comment
@PGR201 Ooh, if you want a hard MegaMan game, look at the original MegaMan, or even MegaMan 2
sarah palin and john mccain forever destroyed the meaning of the word maverick
I never thought Mega Man X was a brutally challenging endeavor. =| The NES games were. And X2 and 3, maybe. But...not this one. =|
Fantastic game though. ^^
what about megaman legends
@Kingofprinces85 You should. :P Mega Man is awesome.
@PGR201 i agree with the guy above you, u probably like this series because its easier, tell me that you can beat the ORIGINAL Mega Man games, and ill have some respect for you.
Get a turbo controller and the challenge is gone, no need to even use the x-buster, ever!
X GON' GIVE IT TO YA!
i swear the final level is impossible. MMX games will kick your ass.
Currently trying to beat it in reverse boss order with x buster only and no optional upgrades.
Wish me luck :)
If you don't win, you're out of the family
Honestly I only really find Armored Armadillo and Sting Chameleon the hardest to Buster. Everyone else is not that bad, even Boomer Kuwanger has a simple pattern when you learn it.

I started playing it when I was like 5 though, so..lol plenty of time to get good..
Boomerang Kuwanger was always the hardest boss and level for me when it came to the regular bosses.
He's based off a stag beetle. His name is weird though.
Oh man, I've always hated Mega Man games. So many bad memories of getting my butt kicked again and again...
@HombreHonest Mega Man 2 is the best of the NES games, and Mega man X is the best of the X series. They are all very good games and are all worth a look, but these two are the best, just be ready for a lot of dying!
This game is bad ass!
@MultiplexZYURANGER
Yeah, but i don't want to cheat or well i know it's not really cheating but you know what i mean.
@KingDavid73 Hercules Beetle
I play the mobile version. I beat it in around 30 minutes
YEAH! YEAH! LEMONS!!
I've never played a Mega Man game before, but this and Mega Man 2 look interesting, should I check them out? :)
cool
@MultiplexZYURANGER
It's not easy.
The sigma levels are hard as boner.
And overall if you compare it to new games, its the hardest game ever.
New games are piss easy.
@PGR201 To each his own.
@ahsdjsdgfhjgdhhhhhhh lol,if u get the haduken its nothing,ive been playing it on psp today,e-z lol,i get ur point tho
Cool =)
X hard lol the only hard is X3 and X6
I would say X5 and X6 are the hardest ones.
tough the same, its not that hard
classic
@360IronShard360
a lot of the megaman games, especially the very first one, are famous for having some of the worst covers in history
A stag beetle
yeah totally different than you
@kalvarr After watching a few vids, it's clear these guys bark more than they bite...they seem like noobs tbqh.
if ur as bad at this as i am.
