It's not hard for me to say dkc2 is the best of the trilogy. Superior music, dixie kong, memorable levels and SQUITTER make this one of my favorite snes games.
In the 90s, I used to get the official Nintendo power catalog with my subscription to Nintendo power. When DKC3 came out, I ordered the DKC trilogy soundtrack (3 CDs ) right from the official Nintendo power catalog. Those were great times.
@NEdelbach Banana coins are very easy to come by. Some even appear at the beginning of a level and you can just leave and come back if you've beaten that level and it'll still be there so you can just stock pile them.
Definitely one of the best games ever. Not only because i loved it as i child but i finished it a year ago again, and it was still so much fun. Graphics are excellent, gameplay is excellent, ideas and originality is excellent... just the treasure of history of gaming.
My favorite part of this game was hearing how beautiful the song Stickerbush Symphony was. I found myself whistling to the song to this day, and when i want i just pause the game and here the song.
Perfect game play, challenging difficulty, gorgeous graphics, beautiful music, with wonderful characters and level design. One of my favorite games of all time. :D
Are they really? When does that come out, I'd love to buy it. I'm playing through DKCR again, and it is an amazing game. I bet it'll look awesome in 3D. :)
I don't love this game because it is nostalgic. I love it because it is Donkey Kong Country 2. Love it or hate it, you cannot deny Rare threw it down back in the 90's to show you how a real quality game is built from the ground up. It has enough appealing qualities that it ought to be automatically filed into the "Games That Don't Suck" category. This game is epic. This game is memorable. I spent hours just listening to K. Rool's battle music, the Lost World theme, DKC2 is one of the SNES greats
Those who think people just love this game cause of nostalgia are dead wrong. I first played the Donkey Kong Country trilogy in 2010, and this is one of my favorite games of all time. Even my 13 sister who is terrible at videogames loves this game. I'm planning on buying a SNES for DKC sometime soon.
i love this game especialy when i play this in color on the gameboycolor, this graphics squeezes everything out of this handheld,i was mind blowed when i saw those graphics for the first time on gameboycolor!!!
@DaveTheSodaGuy0 You know, I completely agree. 10 years ago, I was able to beat Super Ghouls n' Ghosts. Now I can barely get past the first level. These new games have been babying me, Call of Duty seems to be getting easier with each title. I've pretty much given up on new FPS games in favor of the Timesplitters series, Goldeneye (the original), the Quake series, the Unreal series, and Perfect Dark.
Yeah I bought and beat them all a while ago on SNES and the one on Wii. Now Nintendo's porting DKCR to 3DS, I might sell the Wii version and get that so I can play it portable and without motion control. Love the DKC series.
Back when it came out I hated the art style of these games, and I always thought "Who the hell even cares about Donkey Kong??" I never understood the appeal. That is until 2010 when I found all 3 of them for a dollar in Goodwill. Now, after having played them, they are hands down some of the best games I have ever played, with DKC2 taking the top spot. I even went out of my way to get the Donkey Kong Land games. I kick myself for passing these up when they were new.
I have great memories of this game, finding each coin and barrel was all I needed to make free time worth, I hated Dixie at first because DK was my favourite in the first DKC but later I found that the game with her was a lot more challenging and I liked that. The only thing I can complain about this game are the bacgrounds, they're so plain and boring, thank god we're talking about a great game and few people noticed.
Remember kids that Diddy, Dixie, and the DK64 bunch, Tiny, Lanky and Chunky and the rest of characters that have appeared from '94 to 2000 are all RARE (Ware)'s creations, hell even DONKEY KONG is RARE WARE's creation, for those who don't know, the Necktie waring DK is not the Donkey Kong from the Arcades who hates Mario, he's actually his grandson, I don't think he's even DK Junior from the Arcades since Cranky (the original DK) specifies in DKC that Dk is his grandson.
Yeah retro games are the best, modern games/consoles are so expensive and often don't interest me. Many of my childhood games are very nostalgic for me making me feel like a kid again which is a nice bonus :) but even many I had never played on SNES back in the day I still love. If you have an SNES you should look for A Link to the Past. Ocarina of Time is almost like a 3D re imagining of LttP. Majora's Mask is amazing too, I wanna say I like it just as much as OoT, both games go hand in hand.
Saw this at the Pawn shop earlier for 5 bucks. Gonna go back and buy it tomorrow. It was the only non-sports SNES game there. They basically only have Madden as far as cartridge games go. Pretty dull.
I was one of those people who thought that DKC was better than DKC2, I dont know what the hel I was thinking because when I thoroughly played the second one, to me it was clear, DKC2 is my favorite game of all time
Yeah,Since I'm 12 obviously I was not around when the Super Nintendo was the newest console or anything but I play games like legend of zelda ocarina of time which most people now a days are only obsessed with the nostalgia, but since I played the game recently I see none of that. I only see that with no nostalgia whatsoever, it is my favorite game of all time. I also play super mario land for the gameboy and that is a similar situation.
@DaveTheSodaGuy0 newer gamers: waah this game sucks because it has bad graphics and its "IMPOSSIBLE". Older gamers: "I like it because its FUN darn it"
well, that's not the point, the point is that people like derek will always go and say, "oh, this game didn't age well" telling us to move on from a game just because a new one is out. not everyone can buy new games, they're extremely expensive in places like where I live. SO it's pretty pretentious to downgrade a game just because another one has better graphics or different mechanics. that's what i'm trying to say but since you're defending new games, I doubt you'll understand...
This is my least favorite of the 3. It's very visually busy, and as someone who has a touch of colorblindness there are times everything just blends in too much to even tell where the level goes. Not that this is a bad game, I have that issue on other games as well.
@DaveTheSodaGuy0 Well, I found this one to be the better game, graphics be damned. The controls felt tighter, the levels were designed better, and I had more fun. But hey, it's just my opinion.
@DaveTheSodaGuy0 That's not really true, there are plenty of old games that were fun when they first came out, but now simply aren't that good. That's not to say old games are bad, there are plenty of amazing older games; but it's irrational to say the old games are always better than new ones.
The music in this game is amazing. Definitely one of the greatest gaming soundtracks of all times. This is my favorite game in the DKC series!
Dkc2 is my favorite in the series hands down. I used to rent this a lot 27 years ago from my local blockbuster. These days, I enjoy it on my retropie.
My favourite one of the series. DKC 2 is one of the best games EVER created!
BEST GAME EVER!!!!!!! Also this was the first game I ever played.
me too
Not the first game i ever played but the best game i ever played
Does your Y button not work?
It's not hard for me to say dkc2 is the best of the trilogy. Superior music, dixie kong, memorable levels and SQUITTER make this one of my favorite snes games.
The soundtrack in this game is the best one ever made made in the trilogy.
amen to that
In the 90s, I used to get the official Nintendo power catalog with my subscription to Nintendo power. When DKC3 came out, I ordered the DKC trilogy soundtrack (3 CDs ) right from the official Nintendo power catalog. Those were great times.
The graphics for its time was insane.... this whole series was awesome.... they should ressurect the Kong series
Derek, use the run button..
@NEdelbach Banana coins are very easy to come by. Some even appear at the beginning of a level and you can just leave and come back if you've beaten that level and it'll still be there so you can just stock pile them.

Am I the only one who thinks Dixie Kong was kinda hot when she flips the pony over and starts waling on the guitar?
I still have my DKC promotional VHS tape from all those years ago and I'll never get rid of it lol
Hey did you know if you hold y button you run faster
One of the best games I have ever played in my entire life! Soooo much fun, and the music!!!
I grew up with this game. So amazing. The game was so fun and the music was PERFECT.
This review was very enjoyable to watch, thank you for posting :)
Donkey Kong Fever continues !
Beat this game finally since owning it in the mid 90s. This game rocks
This is really one of those great game sequals.
Are they really? When does that come out, I'd love to buy it. I'm playing through DKCR again, and it is an amazing game. I bet it'll look awesome in 3D. :)
Q3 2013. Theres a video of it on the 3DS eshop. It looks just like the Wii version but with 3D.
Is it donkey kong week again?
hey can anyone tell me the name of the tune @1:49
Don't forget to get DKC3, it's my favorite of the series. (:
I still have my VHS!!
I don't love this game because it is nostalgic. I love it because it is Donkey Kong Country 2. i love how the donkey kong country games looked
The best of the original DKC trilogy in my opinion.
@hellbabies9 Me too. It took me forever to find all the cameras for Wrinkly.
You forgot to say something about the fantastic soundtrack. This game contains some of the best game tunes ever made. And that was 18 years ago!
Where's your mic?
I've always liked Diddy Kong; he was pretty cool. :D
@RawHunterX Donkey kong from country is actually DK junior, and Cranky Kong is the Donkey kong from the arcades. And its actually cannon.
Thanks to all this rumble about donkey kong lately, i've finally ordered Donkey Kong country returns =)
I like this one the best, dixie kong is awesome. It doesn't even feel like an old game, even playing it now.
Those who think people just love this game cause of nostalgia are dead wrong. I first played the Donkey Kong Country trilogy in 2010, and this is one of my favorite games of all time. Even my 13 sister who is terrible at videogames loves this game. I'm planning on buying a SNES for DKC sometime soon.
uuuuuuuugggghhhhh why aren't you holding the Run button? D:
This is NOSTALGIA!
i love this game especialy when i play this in color on the gameboycolor, this graphics squeezes everything out of this handheld,i was mind blowed when i saw those graphics for the first time on gameboycolor!!!
Diddy's Kong Quest is easily the greatest Donkey Kong game ever.
@sundiata17 It's Lockjaw's Saga.
You can find the soundtrack on the Pirate Bay 8-)
@DaveTheSodaGuy0 You know, I completely agree. 10 years ago, I was able to beat Super Ghouls n' Ghosts. Now I can barely get past the first level. The music and the graphics/art direction are beautiful in DKC 1 & 2!
Haven't got round to 3 yet to have an opinion!
This is a superb game, but there will always be something about the first one that will always make it my favorite
Those are some bad ass Crocs if they're just hanging out in some lava
2:16 don't you mean... Kongplex?!
No mention of the music?! DKC2 had the best soundtrack in the entire SNES library!
my favorite donkey kong
@BomberGamer Both
Good old times.
greatest video games ever..
@BomberGamer Both and DKC3
HOLD ''Y'' DAMMIT!!! >8C
I honestly believe DKC2 is better than Super Mario World. There, I said it!
+Michael Russell I personally believe that it is the best SNES game ever made! No, the best game ever made!
+King Dedede596 dafuq? same here :D
i agree dude
i agree dude
+gubler michael Yeah! It's way better than Mario World in my opinion.
I'm my opinion the best game in the series.
Oh, and Derek please let go DK 64, WE KNOW you hate it.
Yeah I bought and beat them all a while ago on SNES and the one on Wii. Now Nintendo's porting DKCR to 3DS, I might sell the Wii version and get that so I can play it portable and without motion control. Love the DKC series.
This game is the definition of nostalgia nirvana (as least for those who experienced this title when it first hit).
Not Peirless by anymeans. They had MAD competition with Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles!
Donkey Kong 1 and 2 are the best ones even though 2 is my favorite one
Back when it came out I hated the art style of these games, and I always thought "Who the hell even cares about Donkey Kong??" I never understood the appeal. That is until 2010 when I found all 3 of them for a dollar in Goodwill. Now, after having played them, they are hands down some of the best games I have ever played, with DKC2 taking the top spot. @ChrisCa1601 So did I. Took FOREVER to beat, though.
Saw this at the Pawn shop earlier for 5 bucks. Gonna go back and buy it tomorrow. It was the only non-sports SNES game there. They basically only have Madden as far as cartridge games go. Pretty dull.
Best game i own. I own over 100+ ps2 games including ratchet and clank series.
I was one of those people who thought that DKC was better than DKC2, I dont know what the hel I was thinking because when I thoroughly played the second one, to me it was clear, DKC2 is my favorite game of all time
in my opinion this is the best game ever made!
DK4LIFE
just beat this game about an hour ago, pricelees
still my favorite DKC game : )
@xpluralx Same here.

Whoever is playing moves too slow it annoys me to see such bad gameplay hold Y on the controller
@DaveTheSodaGuy0 newer gamers: waah this game sucks because it has bad graphics and its "IMPOSSIBLE".
Older gamers: "I like it because its FUN darn it"
sold me
Bramble scramble!
One of my favorite games that I can't play anymore >
well, that's not the point, the point is that people like derek will always go and say, "oh, this game didn't age well" telling us to move on from a game just because a new one is out. not everyone can buy new games, they're extremely expensive in places like where I live. that's what i'm trying to say but since you're defending new games, I doubt you'll understand...
Idk about this review. It's one I've been waiting for but at the same time I really expected more than just fancy words...
best game ever I love it
@BomberGamer Get 1, 2, and 3!
hes playing like he just played it for the first time in this recording
This is my least favorite of the 3. It's very visually busy, and as someone who has a touch of colorblindness there are times everything just blends in too much to even tell where the level goes. Not that this is a bad game, I have that issue on other games as well.
Still have nightmares with this game...
Diddy is so Mark
huh... i always thought it was called diddy kong's quest
@timemaster1152 he doesnt know about it
@DaveTheSodaGuy0 Well, I found this one to be the better game, graphics be damned. The controls felt tighter, the levels were designed better, and I had more fun. But hey, it's just my opinion.
Honestly this, and Link to the Past, prob the best games ever made. For ANY system. Even current gens.
@DaveTheSodaGuy0 That's not really true, there are plenty of old games that were fun when they first came out, but now simply aren't that good. That's not to say old games are bad, there are plenty of amazing older games; but it's irrational to say the old games are always better than new ones.
Funny, I paid $24. Mind you I had my mom buy it for me new when I was only 6. :)
Did anyone call it "Diddy Kong's Quest" for the longest time?
and this game is damn expensive on ebay
snes copies are ranging above the 100$ mark but everyone of them is boxed some unopened
Did the person in the footage not know how to run..? ;p
when i was young i didnt know that holding down y made you run
why does derik hate donkey kong 64 i mean it wasnt bad sure it might have been a disappointment to some, but theres no point to keep hating it
Just bought this for 18$!
