- Mega Man 3 review. Classic Game Room presents a CGRundertow review of Mega Man 3 from Capcom for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Released to the NES in 1990, Mega Man 3 showed a developer at the top of their game. Mega Man 3 is an action platformer with the same foundation as its two predecessors. Dr. Wily has eight new bosses for you to defeat, and the order in which you do so is entirely up to you. Add some reflex testing action sequences and the best platforming this side of the Mushroom Kingdom, and you have the basic Mega Man template. But there are a few things that make Mega Man 3 so special. One, all the gameplay tweaks, and two, the clear inspiration that went into its design. This video review features video gameplay footage of Mega Man 3 for the Nintendo Entertainment System and audio commentary from Classic Game Room's Derek.

This is my favorite Classic series game, and my favorite Mega Man game in general. The difficulty is spot on, the music kicks ass, weapons (bar 2) are awesome, and I have a huge attachment to this game. I love this game to death. :D
great review! mega man 2 might have blown my teenage mind a little bit more but mega man 3 is a perfect sequel. i still remember the first time i played it. nostalgia receptor overload...
This is my fav as well. MM3 is the ultimate Mega Man experience on the NES. We have the four extra (Doc Robot) stages which greatly extend the length. Also, the music is on par with the second installment and it had the unique sliding ability (plus the Rush forms). And the Wily Stage 3-4 theme is the most suitable tune for the ending of Mega Man's fight for peace and justice. It has a dramatic effect on many people and that's what makes MM3 so great.
I bought MEGA MAN 2 the summer of 1989 the first 3 days of it's release and oh my GOD. That game will be with me for ever. I was the first and only kid in the neighborhood with it and every time I took it to someone's house they would be in total awe.
MM3 seamed weak at first then it just grew on me the more I played it.
I grew to like MM3 (especially the music) a little better than MM2. MM2 was mindblowing in every aspect MM3's Wiley stages (especially the music)was what made me like 3 better
The music for this game is just outta this world.
As a kid I liked this one better than MM2. Good to know there are more people that think the same as me.
But it isn't as difficult as you say!
3 has less annoying stage moments than 2, but overall feels somehow more of a grind than 2 IMO. For whatever reason, replaying the stage bosses in 3 is more tedious than I felt like it was with 2. However, the addition of Rush and the slide do allow the game an extra level of complexity that does lend itself to cool stage mechanics. 3 is more polished for sure, and the Protoman “twist” at the end is awesome.

Mega Man 3 was the first one in the series that I played. I'm glad to see it get some love.
mega man 2 and 3 are two of my all time favorite game soundtracks ever. masterpieces. 5 was awesome as well. didnt care for 1 and 6. didnt like 4 much but it's grown on me. 3 was very well done in all aspects. a much smoother game mechanically with the life bar, screen transition, and enemy movement/animation.
just a spectacular game overall and a crown jewel of the series.

Honestly, I find Mega Man 3 to be much, much easier than 2. 6 is the easiest.
Both 2 and 3 are easily some of the greatest games ever made, but the Music from 3 puts it over the edge for me. 2 had an incredible soundtrack as well, but 3 just can't be beat

Nice review. I should really get into the Megaman games. It was only sometime over a year ago I finally played the 1st Megaman. I can't stand Guts Man's level in that game. Fire Man has a really easy level, but once I actually face the guy, he kicks my ass.
Even so, I gotta get into this series because it's a classic and everyone loves the games and they are fun.

One of the first video games I ever experienced! Mega Man 1 and 2 are great, but this is probably my favorite MM title next to 9.
I think Classic Game Room or CGR Undertow should do (if they can get a copy) Mega Man:The Wily Wars for the Genesis/Mega Drive. I'm sure they know about it, it's a awesome Mega Man compilation!
Tip: Play megman 2 finish it on normal mode, after that on hard mode.
Finish it on normal multiple times just in a hour, easy.
Now Megaman 3 is fine and fun
The best way to get into them is with the Mega man anniversary collection on Gamecube/PS2/Original Xbox since it has all the original megaman titles on the NES they are also available on the Wii Virtual Console and PSN/XBLA

Mega man 2 is great and all but 3 is the true pinnacle of the series if you ask this humble gamer. By the way, best themes in mega man history are snake man and spark man.

ty for that review. MM2's difficulty is a baby's toy compared to MM3, and the music number is of higher quality as well. As catchy as the music is in MM1&2, I've always hated the sound quality and boss designs. MM3-MM6 always sounded like a rave, and the unique boss designs would have made Wood Man feel more at home.

I like Mega Man 3 for it's difficulty. The four Doc Man stages are so hard, and so it feels better when you beat them. I prefer Mega Man 3 for this and the music.
Yeah, 2 was definitely the best for the longest time. MM3 is a close second though, but honestly, I have to say MM9 is the best now. I consider it an updated Mega Man 2. The gameplay is perfect and the music is awesome, so it's become my favorite game in the series. I still love the first three Mega Man games though. 9 is just slightly better in my opinion.
You know a game is amazing when you can play the game pretty much blidfolded due to the amount of times you've played the game. I love this game, best Mega Man game ever.
I never held Mega Man 2 in high regards at all. I always thought that the best classic game went to either 3, with the introduction of sliding, Rush, and LOL24 ROBOT FIGHTS, or 4, just because of the charge shot.

The thing i remember most about this game is the name of a boss, that boss is "HARD MAN"
For me it was MM3 when Rush was introduced.He was so handy in that game but when 4,5,6 and onward came they just gave him strange and almost useless vehicles to transform into.They should have left him as he was.
Mega Man 2 is still better overall, but the introduction of ProtoMan in 3 made it pretty awe-inspiring.

My favorite MegaMan game!
This was the first Mega Man game I beat. Good times...
IKR!? I had to restart the level a crapload of times because my ammo wasn't JUST right..
I think the soundtrack is better, the bosses where a little more creative and the level design looks better. Plus i never really cared for Rush. Overall i think Megaman 2 is a game they spent a little more time developing and it shows :)
My only real point of contention with that statement is that Megaman 2 is so much easier to beat than Megaman 3, even on Difficult setting. In that regard, Megaman 3 is superior. All in all, though, Megaman 2-4 are my picks for the golden era of that series.
When I was a kid I bead this game so many times I could beat the whole thing without taking any damage.

i have all the Megaman games for NES and i think Megaman 2 is by far the best one. i`m not saying that 3 isn`t a good game, its great but i just dont think its AS good as 2, the others are fun to by all means. but whenever i want to play a megaman game i find myself choosing nr 2 :)
MM2 and MM3 are tie, but in mm2 was when things really became amazing

This game is hard as a rock man
Yeah I don't like bosses with only 1 weakness. I like to use good old mega blaster when things go rough. This was the easiest one in the series in my opinion

I think Mega Man 4 is the best, but I have good time with MM3 too. If you want true hell, play Mega Man and Bass.

MM2 was good, but MM3 >>> MM2. Some people are quick to dismiss all others and say MM2 is the best. I say those people are merely disrespectful.

Megaman 6 did have plenty of innovations:
Rush power adaptors
Multiple secret level exits
Politically incorrect robot masters

LOL. I seriously hate that boss and Wily level. Item farming is just IMPOSSIBLE to do when you lose to the boss! Since you need all your Crash Bombs to solve and defeat the boss! That level is the sole reason why I can't enjoy Mega Man 2 as much as the other NES Mega Man games.

The easiest Mega Man game is 6. I beat the entire game without using a special weapon. Ever.

Suffering? You want suffering? Play Mega Man 9. Mega Man 3 is NOTHING. I played 3-6 for the first time when I bought The Anniversary Collection and beat all 3 without using any continues. And I didn't need any for 1 or 2. But I admit, I had 2 as a kid and beat it reltentlessly after I got good at the game.

Megaman 3 didn't get the same development time as MM2. Clearly, it was rushed. There is no intro, the doc robots are unbalanced, and the Wily Castle too easy.

The whole mega man series is a masterpiece, but of all the titles in 8-bit (including mega man 9 and 10) 3 is my least favorite. I really hate the doc robot stages, the bosses are screwed up badly there. It's a shame, it would be better than 2 if those doc robot stages weren't there IMO
