    We ended up exchanging this model for the slimmer version th-cam.com/users/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU because it was too wide for the only door trim area that made sense to mount it on. However, we should have just noted the dimensions prior to purchasing. Otherwise, we love the doorbell. It works perfectly, and the video is very clear, even at night.

    I received the 14 piece kit yesterday and installed it all in under an hour. Awesome system so far and big upgrade from ADT. Also only going to be paying $100 a year for professional monitoring vs the $624 a year I was paying ADT.

    • @landpet
      @landpet  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's awesome, huge savings with this and the system seems much more advanced than ADT.

      Same with us. I realized ADT was sitting back robbing me $59 every month doing nothing for years. I thought their services/equipment was supposed to keep the thieves out, but they were the ones robbing me blind. Happy to pay Ring $10 a month for the same service plus unlimited cloud storage should I get their cameras. 👍👍

    Thank you for this! You just have the exact same devices that I want to install in my apartment, the Ring System, the Ring Peephole Camera and the Schlage Encode, and I was curious about the integrations. I am still undecided about the indoor cameras, since the Eufy models seems really interesting, but I guess for integration I better get a Ring indoor camera.

    • @landpet

      No worries! Ring cameras are beneficial for their integration as you mentioned. Plus if you get the ring protect plan, you almost get 60 days of cloud storage for all the ring cameras at your address as well.

    The registration fee is a "tax" that some municipalities and HOAs charge for your alarm to be registered. Ring is simply advising you that you may be charged this fee if your area requires it. I live in an unincorporated area and do not have to pay a fee. I also received a discount on my homeowner's insurance for having an alarm.

    good job with the video. if I may ask a question 🙋🏻‍♂️ do u recommend I install the extra keypad I have inside my car garage before entering my house via ground level basement or, should I install the keypad on the inside of the basement wall adjacent to entrance of garage. asking because I've just ordered the 14 piece kit and don't yet have the awareness of owning the system just yet.

    • @landpet
      @landpet  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. It's up to you obviously but I'd probably put it inside of the basement based on what you're describing. It all comes down to putting it somewhere accessible to arm/disarm the system but with a bit of security meaning, you don't want anyone to come and have access to this without tripping some sensor. So if you had a sensor on the door between your garage and basement and there was a sensor on that would trip would be ideal but again up to you.

    I just purchased and set up my Ring Security System! Your video is very good for walking a new user through the setup steps! The one question I have is regarding using the keypad in battery mode rather than plugged in. If I rely on the battery rather than plugging it in to an outlet, how long does the battery typically last before it needs to be recharged? Is there an indicator light that warns of a low battery? Other than that all is well, and I think I'm going to love this system!!

    • @landpet
      @landpet  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I haven’t charged my keypad yet and it’s still good, truly amazing battery life. It will notify you when the battery is low. • @landpet
      @landpet  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! The keypad is supposed to last several months, I've had the unit for over 3 months and the battery is still showing green (unfortunately no percentage on the sensors unlike the ring cameras). In fact all my sensors are fully green. I think the keypad can last 6 to 9 months and the sensors I imagine will last longer than that (1st gen lasts years). They're pretty easy to change. I read an review before saying ring alarm triggers lot of false alarm, is that true? How is the professional monitoring and response time? Thinking of switching from my ADT.
    Thanks

    • @landpet
      @landpet  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Their response time is quick, I’ve had a sensor falsely trigger once. They called me within 30 seconds I would say, lol while I was scrambling to turn it off cause it went off in the morning while I was asleep. A few other times it triggered cause I forgot it was on and I opened a window or door but I turned it off within 5 to 10 seconds and no call.

  • @EverythingEvo

    And yes, the county where I live they require that we register the alarm system with the sheriff's county police department. I have to pay like 20 bucks a year for the registration. Just went in and changed the info from ADT to Ring and voila. I wouldn't say that is a con as if it has nothing to do with Ring and their professional monitoring system since any system you get with professional monitoring and if you have to register is totally dependent on the county you live in and not the system.

    Just bought a new Lennar home which has most of this stuff already installed. For the keypad, is it necessary to keep the cord connected down to the power outlet, or can I charge it and remove the cord? Secondly, house is small (1800 sq ft) but two story (did not come with range extender, where is a good suggestion to place the base station (I prefer not to drill any holes so just want to set it on a table)

    • @landpet
      @landpet  ปีที่แล้ว

      The keypad doesn't need to be connected, as long as it has charge and it lasts quite a while with it, you should be ok leaving it unplugged.
      Centrally placed is best, where it's almost evenly spaced from everything.

    Great review. I just got this gen 2 system and although I get the countdown beeps for the exit delay when I set to the Away mode, as soon as I open the door to exit the alarm goes off! Have I set something up wrong? Also, when I enter the home with the alarm set, it goes off immediately instead of giving me an entry delay. I can work around this using my phone to set & disarm it, from outside the home, but shouldn't the exit and entry delay work?

    • @landpet
      @landpet  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think I may know your issue. You probably have that sensor on your door set to a "Secondary door or window". You need to go reconfigure it to be the "primary door". In the case of the "primary door", the alarm doesn't go off right away. In the "Secondary door or window" case, it does go off right away.

    Will the base station tell you what door is open? Meaning when you open the front door will it say out loud "front door" or "back door" and so on? I understand you can look and see what sensor is open. I'm curious if it will actually say what door is open or if it just indicates "hey, somethings open"

    • @landpet
      @landpet  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The way it works is that it beeps when you open any door or window. When you try to arm the system, then it will tell you which door or window is open at which point it asks if you want to bypass it and alarm it anyways. The app will show you as you mentioned.

    Two questions:
    1. Have you pressed all 3 red outlined buttons simultaneously to see who can get to you first?
    2. Do you typically have the ring phone app enabled, and if so, do you notice an increased battery depletion rate?

    • @landpet
      @landpet  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      1. Lmao, now that would be a great test!
      2. Not really, I don't think the ring app depletes the sensors or keypads any more than normal. Since the base station is pushing the notifications and that's plugged in.

    Great videos about the Ring Protect - would love to switch from the wireless 2GIG system.... but..... Ring does not offer recessed door contact sensors or glass break sensors. There is Alexa Guard which only works away from home; don't know if it works as well as a 2GIG glass break sensor. Ring offers a garage door tilt sensor, but no smart garage door opener. Ugh.... so cheap, so close to replacing 2GIG and alarm.com.

    So what is the motion sensor for exactly? Aside from sensing mention of course, what does it do besides that?

    • @landpet
      @landpet  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's it, if it senses motion while the alarm is on (assuming it's enabled) then it triggers the alarm the same way a contact sensor would trigger the alarm if a door or window was opened.
      Let's say for example if someone entered your place through a window or door that didn't have a contact sensor, if they walked in a room with the motion sensor then that would trigger the alarm.

    • @landpet

      when you say panic mode, do you mean one of the three dedicated buttons to call for help? If so then yes, you just hold any one of the three for 3 seconds and it calls the appropriate authorities. There is also a duress code that you can enter that will disable the alarm but will call the police. When you say turn on all lights, I'm assuming you mean the keypad? If so, then yes when you get nearby it turns on automatically when you're close to it and it's a little dark there. When there's light around, the keypad doesn't turn on the lights. @@landpet No, I'm not talking about the emergency buttons. There is a dedicated panic button that you can buy with the alarm system that I assume if depressed will sound the base alarm unit. I've read that if you press a key combination on the keypad, you can achieve the same effect. Let's say someone suspicious walks onto your property at 2am and you just want to scare them off but not necessarily call the cops, you have the option to press the panic button to draw attention. It would be nice if there was some way to trigger all the Ring floodlights and pathlights to come on as well.

    Is there a feature with the contact sensors like Nest where you can press a button while the system is armed to bypass it? Example: You want to leave the house for work without totally disarming the whole system and waking the family up, so just bypass 1 door to leave. I'm guessing the pairing light on the sensors is just merely a light, not a button for functionality.

    • @landpet
      @landpet  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Just tried it, you can't do it on the contact sensor itself. You would have to do on the Ring app and disable that sensor for that particular mode ("Home" or "Away"). In order to disable a certain contact sensor, you would have to disable the alarm first before you can make changes. Looks like a "no" for now, I don't know if they will do a software update in the future but unlikely.

      Base Station: 100-240V ~50/60Hz 0.5A
      Looks like it should work fine in India, just need that simple adapter to go from the 110 to 220 adapter for it to actually plugin to your wall outlet as you know.
