    Honestly i think i look forward to Yuzuru's short program the most? It's just incredible imo, and i love how maximalist it is with transitions and only 7-8 crossovers. I also look forward to see where his 4A is at (especially after knowing that he has been working a bit with Mishin on it), and i hope he makes an attempt at the games.
    Other than that i really want Junhwan Cha to break 100 in the sp (maybe a bit optimistic but a girl can hope!). He's been so close a couple of times, and i really just want him to hit it and get over that threshold v-v
    Honestly, i don't care much about the russian women's skating so the likely podium is whatever to me, but i do hope that Kaori, Wakaba and Young You will skate clean and sneak in the top 6 and maybe one of them will even podium if there is an opening for it. I also hope that Ekatarina Kurakova can place top 10!

      I agree when it comes to all the skaters you mentioned! Rondo is possibly the best SP ever, Junhwan's skating is mesmerizing, and I would love to have not-all-Russian medals for women XD And I'm Polish, so I root for Kurakova!

      @@asianiewie9142 I do agree with this, and truthfully I hope (and believe) that the ladies competition won’t be a Russian sweep. The young Russian ladies have been more hyped than any other gorgeous and technically just as great as the whole Russian debate. It is more drama, which I’m swiftly getting frustrated with. I too look forward to the Men’s competitors more as well. It’s just such a great lineup and doesn’t have the likelihood of one country sweep because of the drama surrounding the top 3 Russian ladies generate . The ladies Olympic figure skating is definitely skewed toward popular opinion.

    Just a silly question to lighten things up a bit…how many Pooh’s do you think Yuzuru has had thrown to the ice in the past 3-4 years 🤣 . It never gets old! I’m guessing in the those last 3-4 years it must be in the hundreds of thousands! 😝 Wonderful that they’re all donated to so many needy and sick children though! 🤗

    Since my favorite skater in the women's field is out of the Olympics (Rika), I am definitely the most excited for the men's event. There will be so many great guys and so many quads, that competition will be brutal. I just want to see Nathan have his redemption and I do agree that it's his to lose. If he's clean, he's winning, regardless of what everyone else does. But in general I just hope that nobody has any bigger meltdowns, so we can see a festival of clean beautiful quads.

    Great video as always! I agree with most of your analysis except maybe Vincent? He does have a history of underperforming in big competitions, and though this season he has been more solid there are going to be a lot of people fighting for bronze. My prediction for top 3 would be 1. Nathan 2. Yuzuru 3. Yuma (though I'll be supporting Shoma). I was rooting for Misha Kolyada to surprise everyone and get bronze but :(((
    For the Nathan vs. Yuzu debate, I feel like Yuzu is just doing things he wants to do instead of maximizing points - both the SP with lower BV but crazy packed transitions and the 4A attempt are things that seem high risk low reward to me, but both of them are also incredible and memorable programs that will be great to see at the Olympics. I'm sure he still wants to win but I don't know how he can if Nathan goes clean (and Nathan has been really consistent the past 3 years). Maybe in an ideal world the PCS gap between them would be bigger but in reality it won't work out that way.
    For ladies, I'm not invested in the podium at all, it's too predictable. I honestly feel terrified watching all of the Eteri girls skate - they look like their legs will break any minute, the jumps seem painful, it's not a fun time.
    Overall hopes are a cleanly landed, rotated 4A from Yuzu (wishful thinking, but it would be epic), Sui/Han winning a home ice gold, Wakaba Higuchi landing the 3A in both programs, Donovan Carillo making the free, and everyone putting out great performances.

    • @vistaprime

      I think Yuma will meltdown in the LP. I have a feeling the Olympic pressure will get to him. I think Vincent could do better than bronze. I am saddened about Kolyada though with that beautiful LP.

    • @intyalote
      @intyalote 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @vistaprime Yeah, could totally see Yuma having a meltdown, I didn't think of that because of how well he did at Worlds but I suppose that in itself could add to the pressure on him... still, I think he's mentally in a good place? definitely better than 2018 Nathan. Vincent getting better than bronze... if he goes clean I think bronze could easily happen, but I can't see him going above that without Nathan or Yuzuru having a really bad day.
      Kolyada's withdrawal really is the saddest thing, his free was easily my favorite from the men. Hope he's recovering well.

      @@intyalote In a way I hope vincent doesn't do better than bronze as I would like to see him stay eligible. I think if he grabbed a silver for instance and both Nathan and hanyu skip worlds he could grab a world title and retire and I would like to see him stick around for another Olympics.

    Nice video, it's going to be great if you do this for Worlds 2022.
    My 2 cents for women events, I kinda like not caring it enough right now cause it's very high probability that the 3 Russian women will sweep. Why? because Russian apologists, regardless of how bad they perform judges will still find points to put in the GOE, boosting their PCS to score higher. Example Euros 2022 vs 4CC 2022, there's a little chance that the Japanese or Korean ladies can sneak in unless they have total meltdown. It really kills the competition because the Russian is not like high above everyone, sure they have ultra C elements, but in IJS you also have GOE and PCS which IMO these ladies are lagging cause they don't put attention enough in training.
    For men, my prediction will be 1) Nathan, 2) Yuzuru, 3) Shoma, 4) Yuma, 5) Vincent. I'm being realistic that Nathan is coming in as 3x WC, his PCS is unjustifiably very high compared to 2018 where he has to rely on all quads to be landed to medal. I put Yuzuru as 2nd because he plans to try 4A which is high risk, he needs to be clean in both to be able to beat Nathan (I still believe if Nathan vs Yuzuru are going clean Yuzuru should still win in the ideal world). Shoma/ Yuma could switch but I like Yuma's SP less. Vincent is just there because USFS will push for his score. Honestly Vincent has no business in top 5, his quads are mostly landed in q or URs, the worst SS compared to top 10 men even. I'd put Jun on the 5th if we're honestly talking about skating.
    I'm worried for Sui/ Han because Euros 2022 pairs score was such a whack. I'm sad that I'll miss most of the men events cause of work : ( but I'll surely catch it as much as I can live at least for the last 2 groups.

    • @Unfiltered494
      @Unfiltered494 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I disagree that Nathan's PCS boost since 2018 is unjustified. I was just watching his performance from 4 years ago the other day and the improvement he's made is clear as day. He's a completely different skater now. So while he should be losing the TR component to Yuzu, I don't see how he should be losing any others. So no, in ideal world, if everyone is clean, Nathan should win due to the higher difficulty of his content. Simple as that.
      Also, everyone is so sure Yuzu is winning silver and tbh I am not that convinced. If he has mistakes, he might as well come in 3rd behind someone who has a skate of his life, like Yuma or Vincent. Just like it happened at last Worlds. Of course I do not wish for that to happen, but he's been pretty inconsistent lately, so anything is possible.

    • @yohanes2034
      @yohanes2034 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Unfiltered494 if you think him getting 46 for SP and 96 for FP is justifiably, I disagree. His SS is better than Vincent but nothing to write home about (i.e. not worth in the 9s), his TR has never been improved since Pyeongchang (i.e. exactly same empty program like his Oly 2018), composition wise his programs and the jump placement is arguably same year after year (he is known to place jumps at the exact same corner). PE and IN might be the thing he has improved on, but honestly his FP like 2/3 he really does not sell his program until chsq.
      Nathan is one of the skater that I'm personally disappointed because he was such a promising skater. Instead of developing into well balance skater, he develops into full blown technical skater and being rewarded like he's also excels in everthing else

      Very interesting discussion here on Nathan PCS, I love it! Hm might deserve its own video.
      FWIW, I think my short (ish) take would be that Nathan has grown and become a really great IJS PCS skater, although I do personally think he (and many) are getting too many 10’s because to me 10 = perfection so that just doesn’t make too much sense to me. But anyways, note the IJS part - I think IJS really rewards well-crafted programs that satisfy all the different PCS aspects while in reality focusing on jumps, and Nathan has found a perfect formula.
      But that’s also one issue I have with IJS - that people are now just having formulas for programs. Which maybe is good in that it’s a sport so you have to try to win systematically? But I also kind of miss some of the (what felt like) more true originality of older skating.

    • @yohanes2034
      @yohanes2034 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@EricStinehart I agree that IJS has made programs to be somewhat formulaic cause skaters have to hit levels etc. to maximize points. Talking about pcs, if correctly used it should be able to differentiate skaters like Jason, Yuzuru, Misha, Shoma, heck even Kevin Aymoz etc. from the others. The case of Nathan, he is double dipping cause he's great in technical but anyone would be lying if saying he's great in TR or a master in SS. But as I understood it, pcs is now has become "Political and Consistency Score" so as long as you're behing big fed and consistent in delivering your programs your PCS will grow. The implementation of PCS in the beginning of IJS system IMO was more accurate and true to the intention of it. But judges who do it right (scoring based on actual, i.e. some skaters migh have low SS and TR but great in PE, CO, and IN) was penalized and probably won't be invited back
      I'll be on the lookout for the next quad what kind of changes that ISU will make to IJS. Personally I want them 1) to make judges like TP, employed by ISU and forbidden to hold any position in their fed. 2) Separate TES and PCS judges. On the technical side, 3) I want them to call out heavy prerotation and full blade assist on toe pick jump (cause it's hella ugly IMO, also no point of having 6 diff jump type), 4) use AI though this would be a long shot knowing how behind they're in technology. I swear the head/ top ISU are like dinosaur old.

    Clean quad!!! Love this question so much. I just have to say that I believe that the Russian ladies have more prerotation and learning to see hide cheated quads. I don’t see this as much in Valieva’s skating, but I still see it a lot in Trusova’s skating. I wonder if that may have been an early but intentional training strategy. If so I do think Valieva has overcome this more than others even though she doesn’t have as many quads as Trusova…This is JUST MY OPINION ONLY. And I’m just talking about Ladies competition. I’m NOT saying that these skaters or skaters I didn’t mention aren’t completely in base values as well as GEOs! All of these skaters are amazing! This will be a REALLY interesting Olympics! Valieva has MASSIVE prerotation. Her technique is just as bad as Shcherbakova's. If anything, I think Sasha's jumps are the cleanest, with the least prerotation, although it depends on the jump.

      @@Unfiltered494 I found a few videos that show these young ladies’ execution of 3A and quads has progressed since their Jr. level to today. All of them really matured in their execution, but I still think that one clean and effortless quad and a clean 3A is better than seeing quad after quad after quad at the expense of overall performance. I think Trusova ‘s amazing style, speed and exciting presence on the ice has somewhat been sacrificed to packing in the quads. I want to see the “older” Sasha style and fire make a comeback…even if that means NOT packing her program so full of quads. Anyway just one humble opinion.
