I enjoy your videos. We recently purchased a “trunk” bag, no external zippers and two combination locks built int. What we did is make each lock on the luggage a different combination. That way if the bad guys got one lock correct they wouldn’t automatically have the second code too.
I use a grey hard shell (plastic) and I sprayed painted it with orange and black spray paint with my initial in big letters (looks like a gang tag) so it stands out in crowd of luggage I'm never confused when grabbing my luggage, I also carry wide duck tape on the zipper around it. Yeah, looks like junk, but it's my junk and proud of it. I've never lost it or had a problem.
On a flight from British Columbia my checked bag was searched by TSA. They did leave a paper note telling me they had searched my bag . I found it when I got home and unpacked . Problem being they cut the TSA approved lock off instead of using a key to unlock it. So, my bag was totally unlocked for the rest of my flights back to Florida USA. I believe that cutting the lock off was totally uncalled for. They certainly did not care what could happen to the contents of the bag when it was no longer with them.
IF there is a TSA note enclosed, you can file a complaint with the FAA (they are the TSA "bosses") as TSA Agents are trained to use their universal TSA key, not cut the lock. Won't solve the problem, but if one agent cut YOUR lock, they probably cut other locks as well -- or TSA Agent is a crook.
Take a pic too when you are at the airport, showing your approved lock in place. Buy an extra lock in case this happens again to continue to protect your belongings.
I have hard sided luggage, but I also inserted my Samsung GPS tags in them, and I bought custom made luggage covers. Yes, it was colorful, but hard to hide in a crowd too because the artwork was original. And they had zipped closure with room for TSA locks. Too much work for thieves to deal with. The tags came in handy when one of my bags was left during a layover in SFO. I was able to show the airline exactly where it was. Got my bag back the next day, by courier.
When I was flying (many years ago), I would use webbing in a rainbow pattern fastened around my bag, in a specific location on the luggage. Very easy to spot, and just as easy to know if it had been tampered with. Now I am 80 years old, and travel by car, or train. Much more relaxing way to travel.
When you inboard a plane, never throw your boarding ticket until you collect your luggage. In case a suitcase is missing the airline requires the boarding ticket to check it out
My teens and I have traveled on 3 week trips. Carry-on only. We wear the heavier clothes (like jeans) and a coat on the plane. It's always been enough.
@@harithar4065 wear your heavier stuff. You really don't need as much as you think. Also if you don't need wheeled luggage use a duffel bag or backpack. The luggage itself can weigh 7k... case in point I went on a 14 day cruise that started from Amsterdam, I live in the middle of the USA, and I packed in a small rolling suitcase and a small backpack. Nothing was over the carry on weight and for size they were smaller than the limit. It turns out I had plenty of clothes an everything I needed, even for formal dining and occasions. Everything would have fit in my Osprey Fairview and as it turned out the wheels on the luggage were a royal pain. It is so much easier to travel on buses with a backpack... best wishes on paring down and lighting up your luggage.
@@harithar4065I think you misunderstood, he said his luggage fits under the seat, it’s called a personal item. They don’t get weighed. The luggage for the overhead bin gets weighed.
Some objects with rechargeable batteries may trigger a TSA Scan. One year, when we flew across the U.S. to Hawaii, our electric toothbrushes caused a near panic as they were new and TSA didn't know what they were. After that trip, we just pack regular toothbrushes -- luckily, we have TSA Pre-check now and no longer worry about our CPAP machines setting off the alarms either.
Luggage are tampered mainly by the baggage handling personal of airport authorities.. Sever punishment should be enforced on them to stop this problem.
I had travel to more than 10 over countries. The country I had my luggage cover stolen was in Bangkok international airport. In and out, of this airport, both times, my luggage cover was missing. First time: when I reached this airport. And I bought another luggage cover in Bangkok. Second time: when I left this airport to another third country.
I usually put my things in an IKEA zip big bags inside the suitcase. Put a small lock on it. Then wrap lock my case and add a separate lock. Then wrap with cling film then tie all around the case with a rope then cover the case with a case bag. Then wrap it again with cling film then another rope all around it then cling fim again. 💪🙏

On my wife and my bags we put on stickers and also tired like a colorful little scarf around the handle that works. That way we can identify it quicker when it comes off the conveyor belt.
TSA cut my TSA "approved" lock off of my bag. Totally unnecessary if they have a "universal key". So now I just put my clothes & shoes in my suitcase and my valuables (which are scarce anyway) in my personal item. Have a day if you want my undesirable underwear, socks and cheap jeans from TJMaxx. I have zero faith that they won't cut off my replacement lock so I just don't use the lock anymore on travel days. I just us it for my hotel stays if there is no safe in the room.
Me too. I always travel carrying mostly old, but still good clothes that i don't want anymore, and throw them away gradually. By the end of the trip, usually my luggage is half empty, so I have more space if I want to buy some souvenirs for family n friends. Also always bring small toiletries. The only "valuable" things are maybe my spare shoes n sandals😂😂😂😂😂 Gotcha, thieves 😅😅😅😅😅
Why are these baggage handlers and any form of personal, especially TSA people, not checked before they are leaving the building? Alot of employment places check bags incase of theft from the work place now. Wouldn't that discourage more ,than customers paying with their hard earned cash, desperately trying to find a way to stop their items being stolen? It would have been nice to have seen the items you were talk8ng about, especially the smart case?
Airport personnel are bag checked. However, the person doing the checking just wants to get the line of cranky people moving. A quick glance, no gold bars and cameras on top? Good to go. A proper bag check would involve dumping out the contents of your bag. I work in a prison and we're bag checked on the way in and out. Same thing, show ID, quick glance at the sandwich on top, move along. No questions about why my backpack is so heavy and jammed full. They don't care that I might be bringing in 20 cell phones and alcohol. Our correctional officers specifically have a clause in their union contracts that prevent them from being pat down. You can have an empty lunch bag but hide a lot of contraband behind that stab-resistant vest and in those pockets on your cargo pants.
Wow, never heard of that. I’m retired from a large prison system. We had to acknowledge in writing during the hiring process that we could be pat searched (and strip searched under certain circumstances).
How can you stop TSA opening your checked luggage when there's no justification for them to open it? It's happened to me once on leaving the USA returning home and I felt violated when I found their note inside my case when I got home
Don't pack things that may come across as suspicious to image scanners, like empty water bottles or tools. I had mine opened a few times because I had an empty water bottle in there (now I just carry this through TSA in my carry-on or personal item bag only, not my checked bag). Unfrotunately my bag does still get opened half the time since I often times travel with a tripod that has to go in the checked bag, so I'm just become used to it. I just don't put anything of value in my checked bag, which is a good tip to follow.

IMO No checked luggage is "safe". The only luggage that is potentially safe is that which you take on the plane with you as a carry-on. If someone wants your bag bad enough, they will take it and find a way to get inside, zippers or not. The key is to just not keep anything valuable in your checked bag. Things can and do get stolen ,so just limit your losses basically. For me, it's mostly clothes. IF someone feels the need to steal my WalMart clothes then they probably need them more than I do. But I don't ever put anything of value in my suitcase (except for a tripod which I sometimes cannot put in my carry-on due to its size, but it's value is very low - maybe $300, so a loss isn't a huge deal). But I would never put important things like meds, or valuables in my checked bags.
Ok, I'm not that concerned if my luggage gets stolen bc I have my valuables in my hand luggage. If someone wants to steal my suitcase full of old clothes and cheap toiletries, go right ahead 😅
Never check bags with valuables and essential items like medicine and health related devices. It should be something you can easily replace at Walmart. Valuables stays with you in a form of a carry on.
