    I think Wakaba is very much deflated and disillusioned. She's worked so hard to add the triple axel to her repertoire and qualify for the Olympics. But still the judges frequently score her poorly.

    These Worlds had me in tears so often. Not only the moving performances by the Ukrainian team, but also just the sheer joy of skating. Fantastic performances, happy podiums, great audience. Kaori was so fantastic. Standing ovation in the living room. Best part:My mom calling me at work to shout: "Shoma is golden,finally." Yes I squeaked, my colleagues were lightly bemused.

    I absolutely love Kaori and this program, but I have to admit her Olympic free skate was definitely better. Still made me cry tho, the medal ceremony was beautiful.

    This was a very competitive World Championships. The skaters were going to show up or shut down. Unfortunately Wakaba never rebounded from the mistakes. So many fans like myself really wanted her on the podium. My heart went out to her. However I was so thrilled for Kaori, Loena & Alyssa. Really excited for Shoma.

    I enjoyed hearing your thoughts- I was lucky to be there, and Camden was wonderful, I’d forgotten how much I love his skating. Roman was fantastic too, I’ve been wanting to see him skate live for a long time. Shoma is my favourite though!

    I enjoyed watching this competition, especially watching beautiful skatings and artistic expressions. That's really figure skating, but not jump competition.
    Shoma's short program was really beautiful and literary awesome. His deep edge skating skill controled the speed marvelously, and created great artistic movements and atmosphere.
    I also enjoyed Papa-Cize's heavenly wonderful performances. Their magical skatings and beautiful but super hard pausing took my breath way.

    I hope Alyssa continues and also hope the pressure doesn’t get to her. She is such a breath of fresh air. Have watched her for a few years and am so happy she has continued skating. ❤️❤️❤️

    Honestly I found Worlds really interesting, but the poor skaters looked sooo exhausted... they should really discuss if Worlds after Olys is neccessary... also what I noticed now that Eteri wasn't there: how close most skaters are with their coaches and how they laugh and cry together. She's just really soulless.

    • @elenamastiukova2787
      @elenamastiukova2787 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Watch her interview with Vladimir Pozner, she has got so much integrity and modesty. She works really hard and sacrifices a lot. She really isn’t chirpy and talkative. Even after big victories she would stay at the rink while her team coaches go to the tv shows and give interviews.
      That doesn’t mean she doesn’t hug or support her skaters. Medvedeva was her favorite and after she lost to Zagitova, she left Eteri for Orser. Eteri felt really hurt and I believe she tries to keep her emotions to herself. Thus said, doesn’t mean she doesn’t have them.
      It’s a pity some commentators make their opinion of her from the press. Plus her insane success made everyone so jealous they would rather taint it, than accept that she actually deserves it.

    • @elenamastiukova2787
      @elenamastiukova2787 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Also, have you watched when Eteri cried at Russian nationals last year? Kamilla skated beautifully and then Anna (who had recently had Covid) skated even better. Eteri couldn’t keep her tears. Do you think someone who doesn’t invest emotionally in their skaters is capable of that?

      I don't really know about figure skating that much, so I can't discuss much about student-coach yada-yada. But I kinda agree with Worlds being held on Olys season. Some IOC-recognized sports-governing body has a policy to not hold a world championship at the same year as the Olympics. For example, say, Badminton (as I am Indonesian and we're so proud of it), the world championships were technically not held in 2020, but the 2021 WC held at the same year as Tokyo 2020+1, so most of Olympians wasn't attending, including ALL but one Indonesian Mixed Double Player (who just had their senior debut, therefore they weren't even compete at Tokyo 2020)

    • @hw5062
      @hw5062 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@namursyid I think with figures skating there are many competitions in a year anyway leading up to worlds and most of those help qualify you for the bigger comps so I don't think it would be possible to have no comps leading up to it, however with the momentum of the olympic year I do feel like worlds is unnecessary

    • @yuzurufanyu2346
      @yuzurufanyu2346 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@elenamastiukova2787 After Mededeva left Eteri, Eteri started a smear campaign against her and went on live television to denounce Medvedeva for being disloyal and ungrateful. She lied about Medvedeva not informing her of moving to Orser and supposedly finding out through the news but there is proof that Eteri had signed the coach transfer papers long before the news reported it. She even wrote an Instagram post to call out Medvedeva while praising the other skaters, like Zagitova, who chose to stay with her. Given all this, I can't really say I agree that she "tries to keep her emotions to herself". Also, I don't disagree that Eteri works hard for her skaters, but I do think it's all hard work in the wrong direction. Medvedeva and Zagitova have both come out in interviews talking about the abuse they suffered under Eteri. You don't have to believe what they say but I think there's clear evidence in the fact that so many of the girls under Eteri retire at extremely young ages due to injuries or disorders (Lipnitskaya, Tursynbaeva, and Medvedeva to name a few) that there is something fundamentally wrong with Eteri's coaching methods. And to address Eteri's supposed emotional investment in her skaters, after Medvedeva lost, Eteri was seen only comforting Medvedeva. Zagitova was cast to the side and you can see her sitting alone in the green room without anyone to congratulate her. I don't think there's anything wrong with comforting your student after a loss but to not celebrate your other student who just won Olympic gold doesn't sit right with me. In the recent Beijing Olympics, after Valieva skated in the free event, Eteri went as far as to take off her mask so Valieva could properly hear her asking why she gave up and why she stopped fighting. Is that something a normal, emotionally intelligent person would ask a 15 year old who probably just went through the worst week of her life because of something that is undoubtedly her coaching team's fault? She was also flippant towards Trusova who was having a breakdown, telling her that "this is your loss". Trusova jumped five quads and had a higher base value than the men's singles champion. And again, like Zagitova, the champion, Scherbakova was left on her own to sit alone in the green room with no one to congratulate her. So I ask you, honestly, how you can sit there and comment all this praise about someone who so clearly should have her coaching license revoked and be put behind bars for giving a 15 year old heart drugs?

  • @anitabreakone

    The 17 year old young man is amazing. Even with the fall, it’s obvious he’s a really great skater. I noticed him before the Olympics and he could be quite a threat in the future. I wanted him to go to Beijing but no, I would have never thought he or anyone else a threat to Nathan Chen.

    I loved this competition!! So much cleaner, joyful than the olympics! I did still have the impression, however, that some were overscored (in the women's event, I'm thinking about the Americans, specially Mariah Bell, but I might be wrong) and others were underscored: You and Higuchi. I absolutely love Wakaba Higuchi but I had the feeling that, not only was she tired because of the season, but also I had the impression that she has been continuously underscored over the season and that might be awful for her morale. The lion king programme is absolutely fantastic and the best part (as a viewer) is always the end, because she always does it with a smile on her face, and this time it just wasnt there, and I really can't help but have the feeling that judges have been very harsh on her these months (which would be fine if they were equally harsh onothers). As for the men, I absolutely loved Kazuki Tomono and Deniss Vasiljevijs, and for the life of me I can't understand why Morisi keeps getting those scores, he keeps on repeating the same jump over and over again and conveys the same emotion of an overcooked clam (sorry if I'm harsh). That he placed before the french skater or even Tomono is criminal.

    Love women's event, esp the podium, so happy, so much sunshine, so much love and fresh to watch once in a while ❤ That's the only thing i can say about the women's event.
    Yeah, i also wondering about how.... team japan did that. the coaching, the standard and everything. For example, I saw yuma's junior and early senior time, he was not that good tbh. But then, he got the momentum in 2021, esp stockholm 2021 and he was just escalated like now 😂 but yeah, maybe huge self control and consistency, idk for sure.
    Also, just a random thought, i kinda see nathan chen in yuma and i see yuzuru hanyu in ilia malinin, both a tiny bit. But this is totally random, it's too early to judge. 😂 all i know is both of them are definitely the next generation of men figure skating.
    Lastly about shoma, he deserved the gold medal. It was definitely the most SOLID of shoma uno's i've ever seen in his entire career so far. His skating style, his skills & everything. It was the best.

  • @Unfiltered494
    @Unfiltered494 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    Kinda disagree about Ilia proving himself. If anything, I think he proved that he definitely wasn't ready for the kind of high stress event that the Olympic Games are. That's ok, nobody is consistent and entirely put together at 17, but kind of a wake up call or a cold shower for both him and the people who said he was already good enough for an Olympic medal (some people legit said that the US fed didn't send him to the OG, because he would've been a threat to Nathan... which is bonkers). Still, it will be exciting to see how he develops.
    Gubanova is definitely underscored. She's a beautiful skater, but gets 7s in PCS for some reason. Honestly, that FS deserved a small medal.
    As for the judging - I actually thought it was quite generous for the most part (except people like Wakaba and Gubanova who constantly get underscored). It almost felt like the judges were trying to overcompensate for the lack of Russians/Chinese/some other top skaters by throwing out big scores like "look, it's still a legit worlds, look at all the PBs!". Idk, just a general feeling I had from this event.

    • @EricStinehart
      @EricStinehart  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I disagree about Ilia due to that traumatic/shocking fall, but we can agree to disagree! And no matter how generous the judging, still don’t think it compares to the PCS of Trusova or GOE of Anna, etc. IMO

    • @Unfiltered494
      @Unfiltered494 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@EricStinehart oh definitely, I'm not even comparing that lol I meant that the scores were generous for most skaters as opposed to only the Russians, as it usually is. It's like everyone's (with some exceptions) scores were just a little better than they normally are.

    • @MsAMusicLover

      Ilia's skate was an I Told You So for Jason Brown. Jason would never say that, so I will. lia's performance indicates that USFS made the right decision (for many reasons -- also because they followed their guidelines!). The ability to pull yourself back together after a major fall is all about preparation (disagree with Eric here). Worlds -- not the Olympics -- was the right event for Ilia to launch onto the international stage. That short program was amazing, but that was all he was able to give. I hope Ilia adds more artistry -- I mean good skating skills, choreography and lines -- not just lots of smiles and confidence and arm waves. The mom in me is traumatized that his Dad/coach didn't hug him in the Kiss and Cry.

    I really enjoyed watching the worlds especially the Ladies event. It just reminded me of the olden times, haha OLDEN times of the competition wo it completely being a jump competition. Was really happy for all the medalists and small medalists. I really wanted to Mariah to get a medal, the judges seemed like they'd be ready for that as well, but she didn't skate 100% cleanly and as you said no 3/3. That's gonna be a problem. I do wonder why she wouldn't just do 2A3T combo, but maybe she didn't like the layout of her other jumps. SUPER happy for Kaori and Loena. Sad for Wakaba, but she's had a pretty good season and one of the most memorable and enjoyable programs of the season. My heart broke for Karen. Really wanted a Chen Lu moment, but hope she is able to bounce back up from this.
    For the men, more or less agree with everything. I loved Camden Pulkinen. Such a great skater and artist; he's been one to watch during Jr's although he always had hiccups in his programs, the potential and the artistry was always there. Really think the US men are headed in a pretty good direction w or wo Nathan. Was really thinking Ilia was gonna medal, but yeah freak fall, but he's a competitive person like his mom. He'll jump up from this and probably dominate the US. He has a mix of Nathan's tech with the Yuzu Swag. Happy that Vincent had a Chen Lu moment at worlds being able to medal after not qualifying for the FS the yr b4 and then having to prove himself competition after competition. Japan, I love Yuma's jumps; I hope Ilia and he will be pushing each other in the future competitions. I am happy that we at least got one La La Land performance, even though I would have preferred a Han Yan La La Land; not a big fan of Kazuki's happy upbeat part of the program; I think I just don't like that part of the music, lol. Hope my Prince JunHwan gets a better pair of boots; I just love his elegance.
    For Pairs and Ice dance, I was super impressed with Alexa and Brandon's determination and mental toughness. Maybe I'm also biased bc they were skating to Coldplay as well. For Papa/Ciz another spellbinding performance. I really hope they stay for another Olympic Cycle. I wanna see more of them.
    Overall, I'd have to say that Japan has had a pretty good season overall, same for the US. Did the US actually medal in all four disciplines? I don't think I would have ever seen that, but I'm sure I can't remember some other time for them to accomplish this...

  • @anitabreakone

    I feel like if the judges tend to like someone you can really tell by the scores. The one lady who I really do like but can’t remember her name, she was one of the earlier skaters who stayed on top for so long, Ibfeel like a lot of really good skaters were scored lower than her so she could be sure to make it into the free skate. Seemed that way to me. Anyway skaters like her and Mariah and even Leanna Hendricks who I do really like, it just seems like the judges are partial to them and they get better scores. No way Mariah Bell out skated Alyssa in that short program much less the free skate. Alyssa’s jumps were harder and her short program was purely on fire. I could have seem her coming in second. Leoana Hendricks woukd have been just as happy with third. Anyway that my opinion. I mean could it be that Mariah was over scored so she could get a medal for the short program? 🤔Just a thought.
