    The reason why Sochi women scandal is still talked even now is because Sochi was simply a daylight robbery. LIke Russia did that in front of the world and thought no one would notice. I remember that a commentator said of the score Adelina received in the SP was "generous score" because it indeed was, the seed was planted since the SP. To get ahead of Carolina Kostner with easier jump layout and to get so close with Yuna was simply outrageous. Then the FP, it was simply a clown show. But you said it correctly, just by calling Adelina 3Lze + 3T< the podium would switch and ISU by rejecting that simply losing accountability. That even before talking about GOE & PCS inflation.
    Also, just if Adelina is more likeable as a person fans would be easier on her. I mean bullying her is not right, but it didn't help when Adelina demonstrated a bratty attitude in the press conference in Sochi. She was self centered teenager before and unlikeable adult now. She mentioned about ED being normal in FS if you want to succeed and saying that Kaori high score in WTT 2019 was because of home advantage (like her win was literally the definition of home advantage lol).

    What you have said how on how skating skills could not just increase in a span of months just proves the fact that Adelina got 9s on her PCS with only 7s in just two months going into the olympics. Meanwhile, it took Yuna SEVEN WHOLE YEARS in her career to get her pcs from 7s to 9s. That is how skating skills improve, you can clearly see how Yuna had deep and even better edges in her 2013 and 2014 seasons.

    Her bots are also believing the fact that Adelina won because she was excited and was high energy in her performance, and aggressive in such a way that her program looks rush to me tbh. Meanwhile, they said Yuna was sad and pokerface and wasn't smiling on her free skate. Like literally, Yuna is literally skating to a tango, Adios Nonino, a farewell song, she was into her program, she was embodying it thus she deserves even 10s in her interpretation. How would they expect her to laugh and smile all throughout skating to a farewell music?

However, 8 years on, there are still a lot of classic performances to cherish from Mao's LP and Kostner's SP. Little did we know then they were all performing in the lion's den of Russia. It's not a surprise now, but I think we had a very different view of Russia then. @Eric Stinehart Just putting a request in for a similar analysis between Oksana Baiul and Nancy Kerrigan in Lillehammer 1994? Queen Yuna and Carolina Kostner knew going into this competition that the Russian girls would be at the top. They were in Sochi Russia. Lipnitskaya (Eteri was her coach) was slated to win but she fell apart in the competition and Russia made Sotnikova a champion.

    • @rajs7876
      @rajs7876 2 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      Champion is not the word I would use to describe Sotnikova. She can say she has a formal title and some delusional Russians might believe it but the fact is her title and medal are tainted and in the rest of the world she is only known as the girl who stole Yuna's medal. It was not her doing but she has never acknowledged the questionable judging and her poor technique. She is sort of a symbol for Sochi corruption and her sample was actually tampered with in the lab. I just hate the ISU and IOC for not doing anything about it. Yuna is way too classy but someone should be suing the ISU and IOC on her behalf

    • @sarahcorbo3659

      Even the Italian commentators said that when Adelina's scores were revealed. They mentioned something along the lines of " they wanted to make Lipnitskaya the winner but because it didn't work out for her they did it for Sotnikova instead".
      I also found it very odd that Adelina's short program had VERY inflated GOEs, but the judges probably did that to close the gap between her and Yuna so that it would be easier for them to allow her to win in the free skate.

    I kinda feel like with Lipnitskaya's huge error in the SP, they decided to help inflate Sotnikova's scores. Had Lipnitskaya performed well in that SP, I feel like they'd give Sotnikova a fairer score, but who knows? I do think her SP program was really overscored and same for PCS in the FS. I don't think Adelina should have won, but maybe this was Russia making a statement or getting revenge on 2010, where they definitely felt Plushenko should have won over Lysacek. To me, that's maybe where it started and then with the 2014 Olympics, they wanted to find a way to make it all about Russia and in addition help Plushenko get another gold or maybe two; so.... let's add a team event...but that's my guess. Nothing against Adelina and whoever is hating on her just stop. Other than that, this is why people are calling it a robbery. In a sport like figure skating where the scores are in part subjective, there will always be mistakes or questionable decisions. But that is not what happened here. As Eric goes into, Adelina has made multiple mistakes and it pretty much only took 1 for her to not get the gold medal.
    Then you have the PCS score, where somehow she got essentially the same score as Yuna, despite it being absolutely clear that their skating skills/artistry etc. are not comparable. If there was one questionable call, then sure you can't fault the judges, but all the stars literally had to align for Adelina to win.
    Add the fact that multiple Russian athletes were caught cheating supported by the backing of the Russian staff and it is very hard to believe this wasn't in some way fixed. If Yuna was from the US or Canada we might have gotten an actual investigation and resolution... The worst part for me is that it seems pretty clear Russia took this as a green light to cheat in the future and everything around the Tutberidze girls seems to be pointing in that exact direction.

Yuzuru performed his LP-Origin perfectly, which brought the blooming comments from commentators all over the world for his remarkable achivements. However, his LP scores, we only refer to tes, are terrible against with his accomplishment; especially, the 5 quad-jumps in 2019 GPF cannot hit 100 tes. Seems there's none of normal GOE issued to Yuzuru since from 2019. Even not to mention PCS, we can only see jumpers in current figure skating expect Yuzuru. Beg to disagree. The majority believe that it should have still been Yuna who should have gotten gold in Sochi. Have you forgotten how the Italian commentators were in rage on national television when Yuna was robbed of GOLD? check this out buddy. th-cam.com/video/_1N3gol_eN8/w-d-xo.html.
      Moreover, most of the legends and Olympic champions like Katarina Witt, Dick Button, Robin Cousins, Bryan Boitano, Shae-lynn Bourne and Christine Brennan believed that it still Yuna who deserved the GOLD in Sochi. On top of it all, there are a lot of analyses made for the SOCHI ladies figure skating and all of them declared Yuna as the one deserving GOLD. Caro is a very good skater however her 3-3 combo in the sp was much easier than Yuna's 3lz-3t. While on her long program, she didn't have 3-3 combo. Have you seen Yuna's huge textbook 3lz-3t in the lp? Both Caro and Adelina didn't have that. Moreover, most of Caro's jumps on the second half of her fs were shaky. her 3loop was tight and her 3toe-2loop was messy and her final spin travelled a lot. Let's not forget the step sequence as well 'coz we'd clearly see who had superior ss and last but not the least, who has better glide on ice and expression? definitely Yuna...

Same with the Italian commentators who'd been commentating for figure skating for many years already. Not because Caro did not fall meant that she has perfect performances. She has a lot of shaky landings and lacked technical difficulty which Yuna's both performances had. Maybe you're referring to Yuna's 2nd 3lz in her lp as not a perfect one due to a skid in the landing but man, it was a fully rotated one . if you want to debunk my arguments, then at least back it up with evidence instead of just saying that Caro's perfect. your argument is vague and was already debunked by many so stop insisting...

    Thanks for breaking it down Eric. I was an avid figure skating fan for years and truly enjoyed watching the succession of unique figure skating. Especially among the ranks of the men's field. The battle of the Brian's, Viktor Petrenko, Elvis Stojko, Todd Eldridge, Paul Wylie, Kurt Browning and the succession of Russian male Olympic champions, Alexei Yagudin who performed one of the most electrifying routines during the 2002 Olympics and Yvgeni Plushenko the following Olympic event,
    Yet the women's field have always attracted the most attention because of the artistic nature of the sport and sadly, the 2014 Figure skating Olympic event continued the overall biased grading inflation of judges unfairly over scoring Russian skaters over their non Russian competitors. This also occurred amongst the Canadian pairs, Jamie Sale and David Pelletier. Who were denied Olympic gold over their Russian rivals who made visible mistakes but were still awarded gold.
    To this day, no figure skating fan will forget how queen of the ice, Yuna Kim was unfairly stripped of gold over Adelina Sotnikova during the 2014 Olympics.

      Lo que Eric acaba de explicar en su video es más técnico que cualquier protocolo que puedas leer, y no se necesita mucho más que cámara lenta para verlo. El patinaje artístico es un deporte subjetivo donde hasta los mismos jueces han aceptado que les es difícil calificar cada elemento en tiempo real y se guían por reputación. Se pueden leer los protocolos pero me parece más interesante cuando se hace el análisis por elemento con los videos y se compara con su respectiva calificación, así se pueden apreciar las fallas de los jueces al puntuar y hasta se pueden inferir las razones cómo poder político, prestigio, súbita resistencia física, etc Hay varios sucesos dudosos en el oro de Sotnikova como el abrazo a una jueza, el descomunal incremento en los elementos del programa y la prueba antidopaje con elementos de manipulación pero lo que no está a discusión son sus fallas técnicas y por lo menos en este video están más allá de toda duda. Adelina si tuvo la rutina de su vida como patinadora, pero esa rutina no es suficiente para justificar su medalla de Oro.

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the 2013-14 season, didn't an 'e' not incur a base value deduction, just a GOE deduction? I was looking at some old scoring sheets (of skaters who are not Adelina) and saw no bv deduction back then. I'm certainly not saying I agree with that!! And obviously no matter what, Yuna was the clear winner. Idk I just felt like I should bring it up?

    A question I have is when skaters randomly decide to put a lutz or a flip in their short program knowing that they have an "e" or a "!" . What makes them decide to use a 3lutz or a 3flip as the solo jump? Are they given advice to do the jump regardless bc there's knowledge that the judges won't mark it as "e" ?

    • @townfool4682
      @townfool4682 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lutz and Flip have the two highest base values of all the jumps (besides the axel, of course), so if you are trying to maximize your score, you're going to want to make sure the jump that you are allowed to do twice (once in combination and once as a solo jump) is one that is worth the most

    Could the Sochi Olympics be the precursor to the practice of tying PCS increase to tech content? When is the earliest occurrence of this pattern of PCS hike for juniors debuting with high tech content? Did Lipnitksaya get that too in that season?

    • @EricStinehart
      @EricStinehart  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I believe tying PCS with tech content has been (to some extent) a practice since IJS was even created. I certainly experienced that as a domestic U.S. skater since I can remember.

      @@EricStinehart oooo... that definitely raises a lot of questions with regards to the implementation of the system. When I first began following this sport, I wondered why people kept raving about Mai Mihara so it took me a while to pay attention to what skating skills were. Watching a video of Patrick Chan made it very easy for me to understand. I was blown away by the beauty of his gliding.. seems so effortless.
      It does feel odd though.. when skaters like Trusova get better skating skills scores than some skaters who have better speed and deeper edges. Do you think separating GOE/PCS judges would help? It must be a heavy cognitive burden on the judges to pay attention to so many aspects of components while focusing on the technical elements.

      Adelina in 2014 two foots , full-blade Toe loop, wrong edge Lutz, level 2 junior step sequence, unclear edge step sequence, Step-out Loop, and more, she wins gold... ? She should really be ashamed. I only speak the truth. That gold medal, for so many years, she should not use this fake gold medal to make money and gain fame, this is for the poor athletes back then, not just Kim, they paid their blood and sweat and their lives, but they got ISU 's evil. There were too many problems with Adelina's scores that year. Because I'm a figure skating student! She knows best whether her own mistakes can win the championship! The 2014 referee and ISU had serious problems. Adelina shouldn't keep posting such fake articles. She is a liar, and such behavior is equally disgusting. People don't understand the rules of figure skating and shouldn't support such athletes. This act is killing other clean athletes who never get a chance. I want the ice game to be fair and clean. Many people want to cover up the truth, including some coaches in Russia who know the rules. Why act like a fool. Have a conscience❓❓

      @@luceafarul579 More innovative in what sense? Yuna was interpreting much more difficult music in the free skate, with far fewer "smoke breaks" compared to the Saint-Saens piece Adelina skated to. It was a somber, reflective piece with hardly anything resembling a melody until the step sequence. Not something would normally expect at a large sporting event with lots of nonskating fans in the audience. A "safe" choice for Yuna would have been for her to go back to a warhorse crowdpleaser like her 2013 Worlds freeskate.

    Figure skating is 50% technic, 50% artistry. I felt that Adelina vs Yuna was the same analogy with Tara vs Michelle or Evan vs Evgeni. Golds: Better programs, better music, exciting skating, more energy and sparks, etc. etc. etc. Silvers: Good programs but nothing new to see like yesterday’s news, good skating but no excitement at all, etc. etc. etc. The same reason why Jason Brown was chosen to go to the OG. And I love Jason ❤️

    • @veenaive7769

      Another ignoramus comment. The fact is that Yuna (and Caroline Kostner) were robbed on the short program! Both of them had more technical content (more difficult triple-triple combinations), better execution of the jump, and Sotnikova's teenage skating is nowhere near Kim or Kostner as far as presentation is concerned. But the shameless judges gave her inflated scores, both for technique and components, signaling their intentions quite clearly. Sotnikova should have been well behind both Carolina Kostner and Yuna Kim, with a gap of at least 6-7 points (probably more) between her and the second place, in which case she would never have won the gold. And I don't even mention the underrotated 3T, the stumble on the 2loop and the edge issue on the 3Lz in the free program by Sotnikova.
