Ive reinstalled my win10 last week and installed new drivers but still getting the same ultra low FPS, looks like I might give your way a go tonight ;)
I did everything he said in the video it did not work so I looked and I solved it. When you are reinstalling the gpu driver it will ask you to install geforce experience do not just install the gpu driver. So that is what worked for me. Hope this helps.
Great video! Can you do a performance comparison of a GTX 1080 laptop to an AGA GTX 1080 and AGA GTX 1080ti? Try to use the in-game benchmark for consistency, and also use those heavy games like Deus EX at max settings. This will justify if it is better to get an AGA with the top end GPU, or just sell the old laptop and get a high-end laptop instead.
AmalVideo77 thanks! Does this video help? th-cam.com/video/ogINXIegqc8/w-d-xo.html A gtx 1080 laptop with an i7 4790k 6820hk or i7 7820hk performs the same as the desktop with a 1080 in it..
Thanks! That's a great video as well. The performance on AGA seems pretty disappointing. $200(AGA) + $700(1080ti) = $900 for a performance less than a laptop with an internal GTX 1080. Might as well sell the old laptop, use that money and the $900 upgrade for a new laptop.
AmalVideo77 thanks! I see the only real value being if you say have an i7 7700k model with either a gtx 1050ti or 1060, a lower specced laptop with a decent cpu and output to an external monitor with a higher resolution.. But how long that cpu would be relevant is anyone's guess. My I7 4710hq is only 18 months old after all..
Javier Zapana Thanks Javier, I assume you will be outputting to a 4k display? Youll see more benefit there of course. I did do a video comparing 4 video cards at 3 resolutions - my AW15 R2 with the amp and my desktop i7 4790k at 4.7 ghz. My AW15 R2 cpu was holding it back with the 1080ti but yours should close the gap. If you haven't seen that video here it is : Www.th-cam.com/video/oglNXlegqc8/w-d-xo.html
Javier Zapana a GTX 1080ti is about 35% faster than a GTX 1080 so you will see a nice improvement in 4k games especially in some where you may have had to turn it down to high you will be able to Max out now . I would wait and find one on sale though because the difference is not worth the price of the cars plus amp. If you had the 1070 I would hands down say go get it
I have Alienware i7 R3 and it is connected to Graphic Amplifier with Asus Rog Strix 1080 Ti card. I am Playing COD warzone and I get FPS 80+ in Low settings in Internal video, I was expecting that this should have been way better. Kindly guide if it can be improved
Im running the same benchmark and my gtx 1080 s locked to 60 fps even in 720p resolution, 60 degrees gpu and with a really low gpu usage like 3 porcent. What could be my problem? I got a i7 4770 processor and a asrock z97 pro motherboard 16gb ram. I had a gtx geforce 770 and it runs perfectly fine except my gtx 1080, Im worries
But what about video editing in Davinci Resolve? Will it have the same issues? I have a lot of issues with errors like: davinci resolve gpu failed to perform image processing or GPU full. Does it worth in your opinion to invest in an AGA paired with 1080Ti?
I've only really tested Davinci resolve with the new MacBook Pro and the M1 chip. I use Magix to edit my videos. The AMP is a good piece of kit, bit big, but it provides plenty of bandwidth and will give as close to a desktop type of performance as you can get right now
Phil Kuffner some games have stand alone inbuilt benchmarks or you can use Fraps. I use a paid version if Fraps and it calculates the min, average and max fps for the duration you set or you can manually toggle it on or off by pressing F11.
This is a dumb question but I must ask (if already answered, then I'm sorry)... Did you install the desktop driver? I don't see a mobile driver option for the 1080ti on nvidia's website.
Well that was a shocker :)) it find it a bit funny, the comments that note the CPU is bottlenecking it not considering that if you would run a newer laptop you would already have a decent 1060 / 1070 that will do about the same performance. But if you ever get to try out a new Alienware laptop with this amplifier and see if there is a difference ( and i would guess not )
OWNorDISOWN hey did you ever try those external GPU docks that connects on the slot the wifi card uses ? They are about 40-50$. I would die to see how it compares to the alienware dock :)
OWNorDISOWN if it works better it would be hilarious :)) sure you got to take out the wifi card and open the bottom, but still. Hope you get it soon :D
Something in your laptop is still not right or playing nice with your hardware I have the 17 r2 with the 4980hq GTX 980m 1080p touch screen and when I connect my amp with the GTX 1080ti I get around 130fps I do have a couple upgrade over the stock 4710 but it's not that big a jump to make that significant of a difference over yours so it could be the amp plays nicer with Windows 10 or there is something else causing a issue.
I wonder what you would get if you disable turbo boost - so it is capped at 2.8 GHz. That would be a good test. That would definitely rule out a Windows 7 v 10 issue. Thanks for sharing!
OWNorDISOWN Yes i can share with you but this will take a while, i have to go to the US to buy the GTX 1080ti, and as soon ass I get my visa i share the results with you :)
If you have optimus it will use the Intel HD graphics for the general stuff if you use the laptop display. The GTX 1070 in the amp will replace the 1070 in your laptop and will do all the rendering if outputted to an external monitor...
Hi, I have an r2 with 4720hq.i intend to use the AGA with a 10 series card. My purpose isn't gaming, but projection mapping. So the bandwidth will be mostly for maybe ultra high res video streaming to multiple projectors. What would you recommend as an optimum price : efficiency solution for me? 1060, 1070 or 1080? My internal card is a 970M 3gb. I would'd mind getting a 1080ti if it delivers the works, but I don't want to waste money if it's pointless 🙂Please let me know, I am a bit confused with all these tech issues. Thanks in advance.
Hi Surfaraz, You can go into the BIOS and overclock your CPU to its max boost of 3.6 Ghz. I never did that but people say it helps. Still, I would go overboard on the GPU as you will get diminishing returns. I think the GTX 1070 is the sweet spot for you.
Thank you so much. I hope it's safe to overclock. I am new to this. And yes the price difference between 1070 and 1080ti does take the extra pressure off 😀
Thomas Luna what video card and cpu do you have in your Alienware? I determined that an external gtx 970 was a good fit for my cpu, perhaps a gtx 980 max. So for like $350 to $400 (including cost of amp) I got a jump in performance but to be honest that still only gives me 1080p gaming. Perhaps the i7 6700hq and above cpu's help out more but I feel that the power of the video cards seem to outstrip what the cpu can deliver so I think external solutions are only viable for those laptops with very poor GPUs.
It seems the closer one looks, the MORE squirrelly are the issues that exist with the Alienware - be it overheating to CPU/driver interference with regards to the graphics amp... Alienware NEEDS to address the myriad issues that are literally rendering the Alienware platform little more than externally attractive kludgeware.
What is it like with the case open? How about the case fan and the power supply fan - both working OK? Or do you think its the 2080Ti fans? If all the fans are doing OK perhaps the 2080Ti needs repasting? Seems unlikely but one never knows. I repasted my neighbours video card and it worked much better afterwards.
@@OWNORDISOWN it works like a charm in my pc, and open case still does the same.. idle 30s then gaming 40s but random 99! 2 fps for about 5 mins I feel the card and it's the plate that's hot.. I can still see all fans running and hear the liquid getting pushed around.. I'm baffled..
Still waiting on a test related to a question of mine in a prior video. :) Will using a graphics amp help decrease the internal temperatures of an Alienware 17 R4? Thanks :)
Yes, I left it saying I would check on the AW13..I mentioned in one of my videos that I bricked it doing a BIOS update so I was not able to do the test. I sent it back to Dell but they said they would send me another one so I will follow up with them. Thanks for the reminder !
sup3rskrull I think it is a bandwidth issue as data goes back and forth overt the 4x PCIe interface. This site did extensive comparisons egpu.io/forums/mac-setup/pcie-slot-dgpu-vs-thunderbolt-3-egpu-internal-display-test/
I have connection issue with the amplifier. So my Alienware 17 R5 was able to detect the amplifier, but I wasn't able to use loopback mode. I could only use external monitor. Then I decided to reinstall the computer. Somehow, my amplifier cannot be detected anymore, but the external gpu still works. I was wondering if you can share how you install the amplifier step by step and any solution to this problem? Thank you very much!
That sucks and that driver doesn't work? That's crappy. Sorry buddy, for me all I had to do was install and run DDU, do a clean install of the Nvidia driver, install the AW AMP driver and I was good to go. The issues I was having was driver conflicts. Perhaps reach out to Frank Azor on Facebook? Or Join the AW group there. He is very active and responsive.
Yeh, my 4710HQ sucks seemingly , lol. People are saying that the i7 7820hk + 1080ti is about 10-15% behind the desktop. I suspect you will be about 15% or a little bit higher. I also had that driver conflict effect me on my internal display, but if you have Gsync you will outputting to an external display I believe.
Hello! I have my alienware17r4 and my AGA with an Asus strix 1080 ti. my query is this: why does my laptop take both GPUs in the AlienwareAdrenaline? can I disable my internal GPU to use the external gpu? Greetings and I would appreciate your help.
Javier Zapana it should automatically use the external GPU when playing a game. Are you finding that you get the same performance as using the internal card?
Now it's the cpu which is bottlenecking lol, which cpu does the alienware have? Is it skylake? And I believe the amp is best used in higher resolution gaming like 4k as there will be less cpu load and more gpu load.
I have a 1080 ti coming in this Monday for my AGA but I believe whatever cpu you are running in that r2 is severely bottlenecking the ti. You would get much better performance off of a Skylake or Kabylake cpu. But I bet you already know this.
Brett Bremer yes, I knew this going in. The 15r2 is now my work computer so I don't use it for gaming anymore. The whole point of the amp is to make your gaming lifespan of your laptop longer. That 15r2 is only 18 months old.. And anything over a gtx 970 is bottlenecked in it..
@OWNorDISOWN I can't find the video but I vaguely recall you may have a new Alienware laptop available running a Kaby lake CPU. Would it be possible for you to do some more comparisons using an AGA with that?
jacejai I did have the AW13 OLED i7 7700hq but it got bricked doing a bios flash. I hope to get another one in a few weeks and I will certainly try it again ☺️
You might find one of my other videos useful. You should see about a 10% reduction in performance at higher resolutions like 1440p. At 1080p the CPU will be more if a bottleneck th-cam.com/video/G5yefTFu63w/w-d-xo.html
OWNorDisown i have seen that video ..and with 1080 8gb u were getting almost 10 to 15 % less performance than the desktop...but i want to know that let suppose a game gives 60 fps on 1060 so how much fps will i get by using 1080ti..and also u mentioned the cpu bottleneck with 1080ti..how and how much will it affect the fps..and thanks alot for the response that means alot.
A GTX 1060 is about 56% less performance than a GTX 1080ti, so if you get 60 fps with a GTX 1060 you would get 92 FPS with a GTX 1080ti but if you use it in the AGA I would expect that to be reduced by about 10% so say 80-83 FPS. Hope that helps :)
I have a m17 r4 i7 6820hk with gtx 1080 and i've just gotten an alienware graphics amp along with evga gtx 1080ti sc2. On the AW command center all gpus are ON? i cant seem to understand how to turn of the dGPU and just use the 1080ti as the graphics card. i've been on this for hours. is there any suggestion you can tell me?
xHiLife420x i I have sold my Alienware so canny test but I think that is normal and should still use the external GPU . I belueve you have to connect to an external display via that card and you will be fine. Alternatively, perhaps you can diable the internal one via device manager ?
sergiointerior when using the internal display, as shown in my video, both the Intel and dedicated GPu is shown in device manager. I suspect if you decided to unplug from the power source it would switch to internal but I don't see much point in doing that.. If I recall when you connect to external I think it just shows the external GPU.
so I see 1 dedicated gpu inside laptop and 2nd dedicated e-gpu? plus intel inegrated gpu? so it won't shift gtx inside with egpu and I can use both? thanks
The 980m that is inside the laptop gets replaced with the desktop GPU that is in the Amplifier, so you can no longer use the 980m. Can you use the integrated GPU at the same time? Perhaps if you unplug power source and Optimus kicks in. You can only use one GPU at a time.
So I went out and bought a 1080ti and it doesn't work because it requires a minimum of 600 watts of power. The graphics amplifier only provides 420. How did you get past that?
I just put in a CX 650 in mine was 105. Cnd on Amazon.ca and only mod I made was I cut bit of plastic off look at this video th-cam.com/video/82yCRi30QcM/w-d-xo.html same install just bigger watts
@@OWNORDISOWN Old video thread but, what specific gtx 1080 ti card did you use? I read somewhere that some vendors uses bigger fans that will not allow the Alienware GA to completely close. And regarding the power required, did you leave the OEM power supply or replace it? Thanks.
I think he meant with the 1080ti in the GA as in that video the only 1080ti is show in the Desktop. I still think there's something going on be it driver related or GA software/firmware/driver. That's more than a CPU bottleneck, it's choking it completely.
I completely missed that detail. I have an old X58/i7 950 build running Windows 7 and it's currently housing my old 980. I think I'll swap in my 1080ti and see what happens.
Glad to see that helped..the drivers are the most general reason for any fuck up..which they apparently do a lot

OWNorDISOWN Tech Decisions Made Easy yes! Will it be a problem?.
Javier Zapana you can try going into device manager and under display adapters see if you can disable the internal graphics card ..
Now it's the cpu which is bottlenecking lol, which cpu does the alienware have? Is it skylake? And I believe the amp is best used in higher resolution gaming like 4k as there will be less cpu load and more gpu load.
Rock GamingTV no its Haswell. I7 4710hq. Yes, I recommend if I was to use higher than a gtx 970 to go at least QHD.
I have A17 r4 with gtx1060 ...i want to ask u that if i use a gtx1080ti with AGA how much increase in performance would i get...??
You might find one of my other videos useful. You should see about a 10% reduction in performance at higher resolutions like 1440p. At 1080p the CPU will be more if a bottleneck
th-cam.com/video/G5yefTFu63w/w-d-xo.html
OWNorDisown Thank u so much 😊
I have a m17 r4 i7 6820hk with gtx 1080 and i've just gotten an alienware graphics amp along with evga gtx 1080ti sc2.
Alternatively, perhaps you can diable the internal one via device manager ?
i have the same problem with the same card
Ahmed Ibrahim so using DDU didn't help ?
i just did it, but i ran into another problem now, im trying to get oculus to work using the AGA, will update asap
no luck, vr games (steam) just refuse to open in vr
I think the cpu or ram is bottlonecking.
ThorVeras yes, my money is the CPU
I can't install any drivers now
when you hook the egpu the internal gpu isnt available in the device manager? or i can utilize them both with this amplifier?
sergiointerior when using the internal display, as shown in my video, both the Intel and dedicated GPu is shown in device manager. I suspect if you decided to unplug from the power source it would switch to internal but I don't see much point in doing that.. If I recall when you connect to external I think it just shows the external GPU.
Hi, Sorry I meant I expect to see dedicated + external = 2 decent gpu , maybe + intel one. What do you think ? Thankyou
sergiointerior yes it will show both when using internal monitor.
so I see 1 dedicated gpu inside laptop and 2nd dedicated e-gpu? plus intel inegrated gpu? so it won't shift gtx inside with egpu and I can use both?
I thought it maxes out at about 330W under load and overclocked: www.tomshardware.com/reviews/evga-gtx-1080-ti-ftw3-gaming,5061-5.html
Thanks.
Flipping drivers!
bigbenisdaman I know right? What I find strange is it was OK on the external monitor, so the driver must have had some conflict with optimus. Crazy!
I suggest u do tests in higher resolution. That's when u will eliminate cpu bottlenecks
Rakib Hasan I did, please see this video th-cam.com/video/ogINXIegqc8/w-d-xo.html
I think he meant with the 1080ti in the GA as in that video the only 1080ti is show in the Desktop. I still think there's something going on be it driver related or GA software/firmware/driver. That's more than a CPU bottleneck, it's choking it completely.
jmike Yeh, perhaps Windows 7?
I completely missed that detail. I have an old X58/i7 950 build running Windows 7 and it's currently housing my old 980. I think I'll swap in my 1080ti and see what happens.
That would interesting to see. I still have my i7 950 too. Good cpu. I have it in my htcp running 24x7.
CPU Bottleneck. Even with my m15 RTX 2060 internal my cpu 8750h big time bottleneck. Sad
What are the laptop specs?
it has an i7 4710hq cpu and gtx 980m gpu
OWNorDISOWN ahh nice I'm currently running a alpha r1 with upgraded i7 to a 4790 T and egpu
Overclock it you must
Amulya Sharma unfortunately you cannot overclock the I7 4710hq cpu in my laptop 😢
hey there..... I can fix my CPU throtting now...... no drop anymore :D :D
Xuân Nông That's great news, well done! Did you repaste?
no i dont i download throttlestop and uncheck BD PROCHOT option in this app
Xuân Nông Thanh good idea. So it is the same temperature but tricks it in thinking it is cool. I might have to a video on that ☺️
but i think my laptop have a problem about recognize temp on CPU... temp very good but cpu going throtting
