At the start of the pandemic, teachers had to go remote. I loved that I did not have to get ready or commute every morning. My day began at 7:30 and never really ended since we were providing emotional support from kids. At the beginning,I would shower and that was it. I would throw on a tee and my bottoms were stretchy pants. I got through my day, but I was so depressed. I had a student who could not get out of bed, so I promised to send her a selfie everyday of me dressed and even if she could not come to class she would send me a selfie of herself dressed. Everyday I got up and started to wear my dresses. I love dresses but found them hard to wear to teach. We teachers have no control over the temperature in our rooms. But at home I had control and I got into the new freedom of dressing for my own joy. I had started it for my student but it really made me more present while teaching remotely. My students began to look forward to my outfits. I inspired a couple to get out of their bed and even show up to remote class. I was also more productive. It’s true that getting ready for yourself is an act of self care. I experimented with bold lips and fun earrings. My student never made it to class but I got her to get dressed on most days.

"You're allowed to take up space" 🥺 This really struck a cord with me and made me tear up. In wanting to be seen as low maintenance I have really been sending a message that I am not valuable and unworthy of taking up space. I want to change that this year. I love your videos and your style. Thank you for this message it helped me see myself from a different perspective.💙

This is a vital belief that unfortunately fashion designers and labels refute....

We live in a society where if you don’t wear yoga pants or jeans and a t shirt to the grocery store you look like you’re trying too hard. It’s even worse among moms at the playground, the pressure to be extremely casual and basic. There’s nothing wrong with athletic clothing but I feel my loveliest in a dress or skirt and I feel self conscious in exercise clothing like everyone can see my goodies lol so this video helped me feel more confident in my chosen style and to just go for it 💜 I love you Bethany!

What a lovely video! Thank you for articulating why appearance is important. I’ve often been frustrated by the mind set of people who downplay dressing well. Years ago I was working as a tutor. One of the other tutors came and asked me to help her go shopping as she had no idea what to wear. She was a beautiful woman but dressed in a very unbecoming way. We found some beautiful things for her, and it changed her life. The children totally changed their reactions to her. It was eye opening for both her and I. Don’t underestimate the effect you create on others, good or bad. Clothes can make a huge difference.

Still, I'd always recommend dressing up chic and comfortable as much as possible when you need to be productive. I feel like a lot of people use this logic to try to convince everyone to dress more classy/elegant when in reality that doesn’t make everyone happy. I like to be a bit outlandish in my style and I feel like people try to tell me that reflects poorly on me but I don’t care. I know what I like and if it’s a hat shaped like a cloud instead of a pair of black dress pants and a grey sweater it will be fine. I still have the ability to be professional and capable.

I agree with all you've said here. To some people, if you're into fashion you are superficial, self-absorbed and ostentatious, which is unfortunate because this is far from reality. I have been working as a nurse for more than a decade which means I am in scrubs day in and day out. Recently, I got a new job in clinical research and will be starting in February. This would mean office attire and I felt lost! I believe I have always dressed relatively well since I was young, though. I was one who did not want to just put on something and dress like everyone else in the street. But I felt I lost that since I started working as a nurse. I've just recently been watching youtube vids to search for clothes I need to buy. I am so glad I have stumbled upon your channel! You've helped me rediscover myself, Bethany. Thank you for being a big part of my 2022. Happy new year to you! ♥

Hi Bethany! I really enjoyed this video. It reinforces some of my thoughts around clothing and how I choose to present myself to the world around me.
The point you made that struck me the most was the one where you said that I am allowed to take up space. I don’t mean to get too personal, but I am a trans woman and struggle a lot with the feeling that I am not allowed to take up space in today’s society, like I am not allowed to exist at all. I think this is also reflected in how I decide to dress day-to-day. I love fashion and it’s one of few things I feel like I have actual control over in my life. Anyways, Sorry for the ramble and thanking for making these kind of insightful videos ❤️

This video feels very spiritual to me, recently purchased a red knitted wool quarter zip and I fell harder in love than I thought I would, when I opened the package and put it in it felt like my inner child was uplifted, for some reason it reminds me of Winnie the Pooh and I was raised on winnie as a young girl, it feels nostalgic, comforting and reminds me of my grandfather.

Dear Bethany! This was just excellent! I will say that after your styling course, even in the coldest of days I have made it my priority to layer!l Before I would wear a sweater over jeans ..with thermals but now I add a shirt so I can see the cuffs and maybe I change out the boots I wear,; add accessories even if I am working from home! These may seem like small changes but they have a huge impact because it looks like i took time to create an outfit.🎉In 2022 I want to wear vintage fur as it is so cold -- and why waste an item and dishonour an animal again if you have a fur from a family member? Makes no sense to have it in a landfill. Erin Cara from Toronto 🇨🇦does an excellent vintage fur styling video. At -30 to -40 Celsius warmth is the most important thing! Thank you so much! I am so glad to have taken your course!!!!!!

This makes so much sense and helps me understand why I'm so drawn to certain pieces. I'm a homesteading wife and mom, so I usually feel the best when i dress like my grandmother's cousin who was born in the 1920s and had a cow ranch, or a pioneer woman (no i don't use the brand LOL). Your thoughts will help me hone in on this concept!

This is a deeper understanding of getting dressed. This is artistic, this is emotional and mostly a way of establishing a mark in society.
Is this art telling how life must be or reality inspired in art?

I love this video, and I love the idea of it. And for the most part, I agree that dressing/putting on your style of clothing is a conscious act of self care that can set the tone of the day. However, with the pandemic, most of us, including me are staying at home - and I can't imagine dressing up, only to change again to do some messy and hot house chores. I don't have a specific day to do house chores because I believe in breaking them up into manageable portions throughout the whole week - but this means there's a chore almost every day. Perhaps it means I should buy more shorts. Stylish ones, of course. :)

Very interesting insights to consider. I'm not much of a stylist when it comes to my "look", if you could even call it that. I'm often frustrated at my closet, I don't like even thinking about what to wear. Although, I admire people who have style, but I just don't enjoy the effort it requires. But, I'm inspired by this video nonetheless ☺️

Thanks so much for the kind words! I don't watch other fashion channels because it can be an echo chamber, so I just read a lot of books and apply what I learn to my own perspective on style. Glad to hear the extra effort is worth it :)
