    I drove the Mk5 GTI many years ago and loved it. The linear power, steering and braking. Always thought it would be the perfect daily. I love the CL9, hands down way better looking car. I think I may have to pick the GTI since I've been driving japanese for the past 20yrs lol

      i got mine about 18 months ago and I can guarantee you this... you will find yourself waking up a 2am and sleepwalking into the Euro R... going for a speeding experience at 230 km/h plus on a strip of neighbouring the highway (koz... 2 am... no cops... no other cars...)

    Great video! the only thing I gotta say about the Mk6 ( I have a MK5 and want a MK6 ) is it has a crucial issue aka Timing chain problems. I like the Tartan seats but it really needs the leather interior. Would have been interesting too see a drag race between them I bet the GTI would gap the Euro R because peak power lower RPM

      Never mind the common water pump and thermostat housing leaks that plague all golfs

    • @KiwiCarLife

      Nah I've raced these before, the Accord beats the GTi easily. More peak power and manual.

    Was on the track HDAuto trackday Hampton Down National track. Got passed by a VW GTI MK7.5 had a bit more power. I was all over it in the corners in my K24 EP3 with all the bolt ons. The EP3 has Endless MX72 pads, Nankang AR1 tyres & motul brake fluid making a huge difference under brakes. The VW had Audi brakes & boiled its brake fluid.

    One positive of any forced induction over N/A is its easy to mod for power. The ea888 is pretty impressive with tunes. But i know what you mean re having to drive the car to get performance out of it. I had just as much fun in my 2zz as my 3.0T

  • @kevindeloria4537
    @kevindeloria4537 ปีที่แล้ว

    The mk8 styling will grow on you - I shared the same sentiment, but as you see more on the road you'll start appreciating its looks. Stock vs stock, the accord will have a better driving experience, the NA scream, crispy gear changes. Now having said that, if you own a GTI and keep it stock, you are missing out - it has better tuning potential. I really miss my mk7 GTI - sold it to get a family car.

      @Mr Vinegar correct - and arguably the best colour for it is black, of course this is subjective, however darker colours do help accentuate most modern designs. the wrx sti bugeye received the same criticism before, it was "ugly", but now everyone loves it.

    I was pretty enamoured by the mk6 gti a few years back and almost pulled the trigger on a manual one. But now seems kind of soulless? And the ubiquitousness of them in Oz takes the fun out of it. Every man and his dog has one haha

    Perhaps one thing that wasn't covered in the comparison.....is their pricing. Over here in the Australian market, the Euro R is probably around double the price of a vw golf gti mk6. Is this same in the NZ market?

      @@KiwiCarLife That's interesting to know. I guess the importation of EuroR have been open to NZ for many years? For us in in the aussie market, EuroRs have only been recently importable from 2020 and perhaps this could be a attributable factor price x supply?
