'Nobody triggers an autistic person as much as another autistic person.' Thank you for saying that. It's validating to me.

Same. My wife often has physical stims, leg twitching. I find that motion really unsettling and makes me feel sick. But obviously it's unkind of me to ask her to stop. A whole lot of compromise and mutual respect and empathy goes on

I enjoy hearing other autistic points of view. I’m late self diagnosed, at 53 or so. I am lucky in that I have held employment at one place for nearly 30 years.
College for me was 8 years of special interest focus. No friends, no breaks, just work.

I definitely can’t relate to the “being really smart” trait, I struggled in school. I appreciate people being real and showing that they struggle too. Being vulnerable is hard but helps us relate to each other.

I completely agree with the statement: it is less about the quality of content, and more about how good it is delivered. Speaking from my experience, friendship is extremely tough in real life. But on TH-cam it allows a sense of friendship, so I am watching just to catch up with a friend.

It’s been really annoying trying to find a therapist as an autistic person with a special interest in trauma and dissociation. I may not have their degree, I may not know what to do with my emotions, but I know the theory of their therapeutic techniques more than they do, and I know if they break protocol and it’s really distracting from actually focusing on my emotions in therapy, because I just wanna discuss theory.

Relate to lots of this! So good. I ran in a panic from the concept of college, regrettably, but striving to support my spectrum kiddos better in these pursuits, so tucking away these perspectives for future reference. And as to the OCD, get that, too. I would feel sooo guilty, berate myself, and have such intrusive thoughts if any single part of my daily plan was missed for so long. I know a large piece is childhood trauma and, as I extend more self-grace, the less I am hearing the old tapes in my head. Or, at least, shutting them off sooner. Thanks for this. An excellent help! ❤

Really glad you mentioned having OCD while being autistic, it really is hard to see whats happening while youre going through it. I am a little bit allergic to having any kind of heavy routine because i know how i can spiral if im not well. Its difficult as well having such strong emptions as well as having intrusive thoughts. It often plays off of my shame related to my autism.

    Interesting chat.
😅 I'm not a fan of short form content... it seems to be what all platforms are going to. I prefer videos that are like 30 minutes long. (but I'm old..) I'm kind of annoyed that Instagram, TH-cam, Facebook, etc all want to be tiktok... I don't even have a tiktok account and have no interest in getting one.
I think I've seen Thomas before on my youtube recommendations but I've not followed. I shall follow.
I do follow Meg. I relate a lot to her. A lot of what she says I'm like "me too! I do that!" (or did that)... 😅 Taylor's was the first channel I found where I was like "I think I might be autistic", but I didn't relate to everything she said which left a lot of "maybe I'm not"... but I relate a lot to Meg's experiences so that kind of gave me a little more... I don't know... maybe helped with imposture syndrome a little.
