As a farmer, I rely on my 4x4 Ute to pick up farming supplies. I don't think a Tesla would cut it carrying a ton of fertiliser and drive the dirt roads around here. I respect farmers, it's a hard job and your lucky to break even but with our you we wouldn't have fresh produce on our plates. I used to be a game keeper in my spare time and builder for my full time job. I got out of the building trade due to the price of materials going up and the price of the jobs going down to a point of it wasn't profitable to renew my gas licence. I'm glad I got out of it when I did and now I'm a truck driver, more money and less stress. I own a ford ranger coz I live away from home in the truck and have a weeks worth of gear to carry coz I have to dekit every week. I don't have enough space with out taking stuff out to go shopping etc. My family lives in the country down some roads that you need 4wd to get down especially in the winter or when it's been raining.

I drive a duel cab Ute to and from work and use it to row my boat to a waterway and take the family fishing . I get the kids are off electronics and out in the outdoor enjoying life.
The biggest problem is that people aren’t taught how to drive in a safe manner with a boat , trailer , caravan or even a car trailer and that there a lot of people don’t know how to load a car trailer . The number or little city cars backed up and honking the horns and going off at the Truckie was appalling. I took it upon myself to self to do a uturn and try help the poor Bugga. In the cars defence I’m sure the 18 year old suspension was not up to the task. Since then maturity has improved and I wouldn’t think twice about that kind of weight, especially tools going into a smaller car. Tradies need the bigger cars to safely carry our tools around.

But...This means I can offer styling and staging of their when I go to sell it, rubbish removal when they need it or to remove that table and pot plants that they left without needing... It offers me a point of difference in a competitive industry. Utes and large vehicle are needed in the world and we should not be taxed for wanting the ability to help others. I do not charge for tip runs or styling or any other use for the use...Having a ute is so useful even for a "desk job" like being an agent... And it means I can help the community and get away on weekends, away from the crowds and phone ringing when I need down time. Love that you guys are actually putting the foot down on things like this as well as track closures! In SE Vic were seeing so many 'seasonal closure' gates get closed and never reopened, and they're starting to say that they're closing them for aboriginal heritage. I fully respect the aboriginal people, and have several friends in that community but its not them that want us locked out! They dont want to spend the money maintaining tracks so they find an excuse to close them. Examples are Davies Plain Track, Ingeegoodbee Track, McFarlane Flat Track, Cobberas Track and plenty more! But a lot of companies/councils just buy bulk dual cabs for their fleet as a tax write off and hardly any of them are actually used by the tradies to carry tools or trailers around. Hi Shauno and Gray - There’s an elephant in the room here and it’s not your vehicle but according to a recent Drive article most old and new 4WDs will not be able to meet the new Euro 6d fuel emissions standards being applied here in Australia from late 2025 and retrospectively to all vehicles in 2028 - I suspect showroom floor owners are getting nervous about this and we may also see registration increases to penalise us that own them - that’s if we pass the annual inspection test because if it fails we may not be able to register them anymore - I put this to Andrew St Pierre White of 4x4 Overland TH-cam channel and he dismissed it - I don’t think he’s across this at all.

"and retrospectively to all vehicles in 2028", when you read what it actually says, "New versions of new cars, including SUVs and light commercials, sold from December 2025 will need to comply with the standards, which replace the existing Euro 5 measures. The standards will then apply to all new vehicles on sale from 2028" nothing about retrospectivity.............

Away around this would create new category mid size commercial or light truck. If standard has these defined then just get around it by new category of vehicle which then they need to change to any New ICE vehicle.

In WA, Using your car as a tax right off means you are using your car as a comercial vehicle/work vehicle, which in turns costs you more rego anyway rather than if you are using it as a private vehicle.
Plus the rego works out more via the weight factor these days. heavyer vehicles cost more to register than small lighter cars.

    Hey guys,
It’s terrible to think they would seriously charge higher taxes for 4wds! Im 15 and I bought my first project car, 1981 RN46 Hilux, when I had only just turned 14! Working my first part time job to be able to rebuild my ride before I am licensed. I’m also studying at school as well as electrotechnologies at Tafe to become an electrician. My car is my project now but will be my daily driver for work when the time comes. As a kid on apprentice wages, its hard enough let alone paying more for driving a car that I’m passionate about!
I’m right with you guys, lets fight a good fight on this!!

same but Not the Same, here in California in the USA, 6 mothers after i got a loan for a 2012 camaro V6 gets 24-35 mpg, in 2017 my state raised gas tax and registration, my registration went from 150$ to over 800$ Every year to re-register my car. because my 2 door camaro with decent gas mileage was located in a rather large city i was slapped with a gas guzzler tax for my registration. I went from having a vehicle i could afford was my 1st car with less than 25,000 miles on it, to I'm out of a job because i cant afford gas. i watched gas go from 3.43$ a gallon to 4$ than 5$ and during covid it shot up to 6$ a gallon now I'm spending 80$ every 3 days i had a 350$ payment 250$ insurance. and i only made 1200$ a month. i was left with 100$ for food and bills not related to the car. i was forced to quit my job because i could no longer afford to drive 60+ miles round trip to work and home every day. all it did was make me sit and realize after these new laws came in to play was my sate and those who run my state dont care about the people one bit only about filling there pockets so they can give eachother raises. i hope this works out better for you guys over in the AU then it did for me in the California USA

Great video and discussion boys. Let's hope this video triggers a much, much wider response from the public. The issue in Australia is that the general public is calm and obedient enough to allow this to happen. That 'She'll be right' attitude.
You can bet the government knows this, and almost 'expects' no public outrage. This is only on the table because government knows this class of vehicle is popular, and wants to make money off it, plain and simple.

My other half is a sparky and works for a company that uses both utes and big vans. They install all sorts of appliances as well as all sorts of electrical stuff and they use every millimeter of space in the vehicles for al their tools and supplies. If they’re going to tax or ban “big vehicles” such as utes then they should do the same with the vans that are like a mini bus
