That was probably the best way they could've introduced new cast members.
Yeah, because the way they did it in season six (where the new cast shares a bed with the host) and season 11 (where the head of the network announces that they're drug-testing the new cast members) led to critics ripping the show apart. Here, it softens the blow.

This was definitely the best cold open they could have done with the cast change. Honestly brilliant and gives me some confidence that the show will continue to be good even though all my favorite people left

I too, was a wicked sinner of the world before I opened my heart to God. I am living proof of God's work and fruitfulness! He is an active God who hears the prayers of his! God's children are set apart (holy) and righteous. The devil is a liar that comes to steal, to kill, and to destroy; that includes your relationship with God.
If they have a skit where they admit Trump was right about what a train wreck Biden's crew was going to be (high gas prices, few jobs, consumer confidence through the floor, inflation, Germany shouldn't rely on Russian fuel, the FBI actually did make up the Dossier and knew it was fake the whole time, Fauci and Burk actually were full of crap etc.) it might undue a bit of the damage SNL has done to their own reputation. Just have the writers and cast watch Russell Brand for a month basically.
This show has been on 47 years with cast changes all the time, so I think it'll be fine.. and sure Kenan Thompson will stick around for awhile still ha

First cold open that I’ve laughed at in a long time!
Because it wasn't a political sketch. Okay, it kind of was, but the main focus was on how people are going to rip apart SNL because the good cast members left and they hired new people that may or may not be hits with the audience.
And for those worrying, Cecily Strong is still on the show, but this is going to be like when Aidy Bryant and Kate McKinnon missed episodes, but came back either before the Christmas break or on the first episode of the new year. Though all that means to me is that Cecily Strong will be the next cast member to leave and the news will make a lot of people here lose their faith in SNL being good.

I legit spent half the sketch racking my brain trying to figure out who was playing Peyton Manning before I realized, "HOLY SHIT, That's Miles!" He's a great impressionist and I'm glad they put him in the opening sketch.

Me too because like he said they rarely put the guest hosts in the cold opens. Probably it's because they have to go right into their monologues directly after and there's very little time for makeup and costume changes.

When they said SNL is ‘in a rebuilding year’, I don’t think they’re joking.
Couldn’t help but notice how quiet the audience got at the marbles joke. Not that it was particularly funny, but that’s never stopped the seals from clapping before.
Its obvious the audience are sheep and if you even DARE poke fun at their dear leader, youre in for a bad set lol.

It was episode host Miles Teller. I can see why you'd think it was really Peyton.
And a lot about this cold opening reminds me of the season 11 one where all the new cast members are getting urine tested for drugs, in that this is either going to be the season where SNL gets weird or it's going to be the beginning of the end for this show. At least the host here wasn't as much of a drag as Madonna was, so there's hope for this cast yet.

This was self aware and well done, love it. SNL gets a ton of shit, but they continue to have great cast members and hit it on the head every so often
