I was in the audience that night. When Heidi breaks after seeing Mikey’s face, Ryan Gosling and Chloe Fineman were absolutely losing it off-camera. At one point, Gosling buried his face in his hands and rocked back and forth in his chair.

He said he had totally lost it in the dress rehearsal and didn't think he was going to be able to hold it together when live, but he did.
I’ve known Kenan since the first season of “All That”; literally part of my childhood even though he is around my age lol. He has always been able to pull through. However, during the “I put the screw in the tuna!” from Kenan and Kel?! He was fighting for his life lol!
It’s crazy how Heidi losing it just makes the sketch all that much better.

In my 25+ years of watching SNL I don’t think I’ve ever seen a solo actor break so hard and as long as Heidi.
Which means so much more since Heidi is a master of NOT breaking.
Bill Harder in the wheelchair sketch comes to mind. But this might top that.
Larry David broke so much in a skit, you couldn't hear what he was saying and he just powered through it, laughing so much.

Some of the non-verbal actions are what make this sketch work so well. Kenan's eye squint as he first sees Gosling as Beavis is low key hilarious. Gosling's choice to look around confused after Kenan notices him kept the laughs coming. The best however was Mikey making his eyes even wider when Heidi looks back and makes her probably lose it even more.
the funny thing is it looked like Mikey was trying to make Heidi break.
she actually had seen the makeup, exactly as seen in the skit, beforehand. In an interview afterwards, she said the look you describe that Mikey gave her is what made her lose it.
The Beavis and Butt-head make up, the hair, clothes, even the nose, is just too PERFECT to do a one-only sketch appearence. I hope they comeback soon!
Maybe in one of those "funny name news disaster" skits. They always reference shows and movies anyway. That would be amazing if they're like the Matt Schatt-style normal guy only weird by happenstance things.

You can tell the moment Heidi lost it was when Mikey shifted his gaze very slightly to make direct eye contact with her, as if he was making the face just to crack her up. So brilliant. I've watched this at least 100 times.

I’m tired of SNL and all their character breaking. A lot of it seems forced to get extra laughs. It’s very unprofessional and annoying! Most of the time SNL is not funny so I wouldn’t be surprised if they are encouraged to “break.” There are exceptions of course like with Heidi and this sketch where it’s justifiable, but again, this happens way too often.
@@MisterWub 100% it is well known from way back the most popular SNL skits always involve the cast breaking character. The producers aim for it. David Spade that was his main schtick. Jimmy Fallon made this his whole career. If its even remotely funny, someone will break character. Makes the audience laugh more.

Even when it wasn't even that funny, he would break just for some cheap extra attention. Oh and Fallon also sucks so there's that too.

Outside of Heidi's incredibly infectious breaking, one of the funniest things in this sketch is Ryan's acting in the very beginning: having "Beavis'" being SUPER interested and attentive in this town hall conversation.

this is one of the best SNL skits in a long time. it has the feel of SNL from the 90s. people cracking, missing lines, general hilarity just from the nature of the skit...gold.

This show has had a massive turnaround like nothing I ever have seen or expected for a show that started it's 48th season with an almost entirely brand new cast and it WORKS!

I love this sketch. One of the things that sells it is how both Ryan and Mikey speak in a normal, articulate way. One would expect them to talk like Beavis and Butthead, but because they didn’t somehow made it funnier

This was highly entertaining. I guess Heidi hadn't seen the finished product. Best moment at 3:05 when Mikey anticipates her turn around and widens his eyes to really deliver the full look to her, causing the meltdown. EDIT: Kenan's mic is on and you can hear him saying "oh god" in a laugh when she breaks.
Mikey knew EXACTLY what he was doing and I love him for it.
Given the context of AI, I think SNL created the reality of Americans perfectly.

SNL almost sorta remotely got funny-ish again for 5 minutes. Imagine that.
I'm sure it didn't help that it was Mikey Day. I feel like theyve acted opposite so many times during their SNL history that she just couldn't handle seeing him like that. Usually a sketch breaking down is frowned upon but when everyone is having this much fun its hard not to love it. Gosling seems to break constantly but seems like such a fun Host that no one cares.

Keenan deserves just as much or even more credit. It’s genius how he basically narrated the video (for ppl who never saw cartoon) but made it hysterical how he says things in general!!! Great episode. Feels like the old SNL, when they were actually good.
Of all of the amazing stuff here, the best is the MIT professor knowing everything about Beavis and Butthead.

I work with MIT professors daily as an admin. They DEFINITELY know them. Remember 50-year-old researchers/scientists are Gen X. 😂😂

One of the hardest jobs has to be being an extra on this show. It's awesome watching so many of them keep it together but with small cracks in their mouth to keep from laughing.
This has tied the #1 spot as one of the greatest of all SNL skits......right up there with the need for more cowbell. Beavis and Butthead laughing was spot on.
This gotta be the best skit of the year, with Heidi, Ryan and Mikey breaking character. I’m still laughing.
Technically, Beavis and Butt-Head speak while giggling are in character.

I thought the actor pointing out B&B also made it funny with his reactions. Heidi laughing made me laugh. I’m one of those that watched Carol Burnett, and enjoyed them breaking character and laughing at each other.
I keep coming back to this video. I LOL. EVERY. TIME. Her attempt to cover him up with her hand to regain composure is so sweet, and ultimately...totally ineffective. The makeup team deserves a raise...this shit's going down in history.
Much funnier when Carol Burnett did it. Or even when Jimmy Fallon copied her. Breaking character is such an old bit now, just unprofessional.
