    Thanks for the good review. Just purchased one yesterday. Too bad it takes so long for you to turn on the X3 via the remote. Maybe they will fix via firmware.

    How accurate is the mp/h compared to what the car is doing simultaneously? I've got my X3 running off the apple watch or phone gps and the mp/h seems to mostly be a few seconds behind real time when it comes to adding the stats to the video?

    I noticed that you are using a new remote to control X3 and an old remote to control X2. In my case, I have only X2 and I bought a new remote. I am having problems to auto-connect the new remote to X2. Every time I want to use the remote I have to go to the settings of X2 and connect the remote manually. Is this something that you experienced too? I can even wake up X2 using GPS remote, but it never connects automatically after the camera wakes up.

    Nice comparison. I have the old remote and I wanted to use it with the camera mounted on a helmet. It works, but I was shocked at how slow it was to respond, or at least start up. But it worked.
    Two things you missed. It would’ve been nice to see how long each remote lasted on a full charge. Perhaps the new one has a smaller battery because it consumes less power but only a test would show it. The second item is what does the status light do when you take a photograph with the remote ?

    One of the issues I've had with the old remote is not being able to select Interval selection. Too bad that's still an issue with the new remote. I agree it would be much better if you could customize that since I never use half those selections. That said, the old remote is not behaving very well with my One RS one inch. The mounting options are better too. -H

      Have you notice a shorter run time with the smaller battery in the newer version?

    • @ttl_channel
      @ttl_channel  ปีที่แล้ว

      I never had a problem with run time, but with the old remote I found that the battery drained while stored, so it was often dead when I got it out. I don't see this so much with the new one.

  • @duncangatland6021
    @duncangatland6021 ปีที่แล้ว

    Bought a remote soon after camera purchase.
    It is excellent for use on the motor bike, where I can mount the camera high and behind me. Remote shows it is recording.
    Let us hope that themakets upgrade the software so we can select remotely each available option for video and for photo. It can't be so hard.
    One needs to be patient with remote start.
    The GPS needs to be operational before the unit completes the connection with the Camera. Only then will the camera operate on command. There is a short delay in both start and stop.
    A further warning, always check it is in the desired mode. 360 can only be selected on the X3 screen. Not on the Remote - for now at least

    Very helpful, thank-you for that. I'm about to invest in a remote for my X3 and actually prefer the form factor of the v1 remote. One question you didn't specifically address - the sluggishness of the older v1 remote - does that only apply when using the X2 or is the X3 also less responsive with the v1 remote than with the v2? In theory it's the camera that's doing the responding, which remote is used shouldn't matter as the remote should just be relaying button presses which should be instant.. That's a lot of shoulds.. Could you please test responsiveness of the X3 with both remotes and post the result. Thank-you.. Gordo

    • @ttl_channel

    Excellent review, thank you! Is it reliable? I mean, will I be sure I'll ALWAYS be able to turn on and record, turn off, turn on and record again? The idea is to put it outside a small airplane and keep off while not needing to record to save battery, and turn on only when over the point of interest. And, this camera has a known problem with OVERHEATING - if it happens, will the remote inform it? And after it, in this situation, will I be able to wait it cool and record again? Or be able to to turn off and on in this situation?
    And, when it lost the connection to the remote, just going nearer did it recover the connection and resume working withou any need to access the camera? In airplane it may loose connection (due metal fuselage) but we can move the control to near the window to recover connection. Thank you!!

    • @ttl_channel
      @ttl_channel  ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately, I have not found it 100% reliable. Sometimes, it fails to connect automatically, although I have to add that I have paired/unpaired different devices, so that might have something to do with it. I have not tried remote connection though a metal wall.

  • @MattLeech
    @MattLeech ปีที่แล้ว

    Have you encountered an issue with recording failing within 20 seconds when recording was initiated by the Bluetooth Remote using Bluetooth Wakeup and Quick Capture? I've tried seven (yes seven!) micro sd cards of different manufacturers and capacity, and they all get this issue. Not every time, but sometimes it's two out of three recordings, sometimes it's one in ten recordings. Also, whenever I initiate recording using Quick Capture from the bottom left button on the camera itself, the recording always works perfectly. I'm in ongoing discussions with Insta360 about this.

    • @ttl_channel
      @ttl_channel  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have not tested this - frankly, I did not know you could do quick capture using the remote. How does that work?

    • @MattLeech
      @MattLeech ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ttl_channel Enable Quick Capture and Bluetooth wakeup on the camera. Turn on Camera and Remote and ensure they are connected. Turn off Camera. Remote will show 'Camera Disconnected'. Press shutter button on the Remote. Camera will power on and begin recording. Press shutter button on remote again. Recording stops, and camera will power off ready for next Quick Capture.

    • @ttl_channel
      @ttl_channel  ปีที่แล้ว

      It took a few attempts, but I did get it working. I am not seeing any interruption of the recording, but connection between the remote and the camera is not reliable. BT connectivity is something Insta360 needs to improve!

    • @rjg999
      @rjg999 ปีที่แล้ว

      See my comment above. My brand new remote and brand new X3 behave exactly as your describe. I can't see how it has anything to do with the uSD card. Mine, btw, is actually the brand that Insta360 supplies. Without this feature working properly, it completely ruins my usage experience I was going for with the kit and I'll be returning all of it.

    • @MattLeech
      @MattLeech ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rjg999 - I only returned the remote, the camera is amazing and I get footage that blows people away. Surely, it's just a firmware update on the camera and/or the remote that will fix this issue, but until Insta360 roll out that patch then I'll have to continue to edit out myself stopping recording each time.

    • @ttl_channel
      @ttl_channel  ปีที่แล้ว

      Tough one. The new remote shows up as an accessory for the One X, even though the product description does not list the One X as a compatible camera. I would assume it is compatible but you should probably check with Insta360 to be sure.

    • @pk360de
      @pk360de ปีที่แล้ว

      No. The OneX needs the Insta360 app for OneX as a mediator to connect to the GPS Smart Remote and that app is not enhanced for the new GPS Action Remote. Theoretically it could be updated but also the firmware of OneX currently (v1.18.43 / v1.18.48 Enterprise) does not know the different command set / BT symbols the GPS Action Remote uses.
      Also OneX2 is only compatible with with/since firmware v1.0.62.

    Hello... when I bought the X3 last year I was happy to use the old Smart Remote with X3. Since last week - there was an upgrade for the x3 - I am not able anymore to connect the Smart Remote, X3 can "see" with BT there is a Remote-device available - but without connection. I´m very sad now - and I have to pay 92 € for the new version...
    Today I received the new GPS Action Remote and the connection was established within seconds. So - BT is working fine at the X3-camera... but: how can I make an firmware-update to the new remote-controller - when there is any??
    From my point of view the functionalety with the old version was more convenient: On/Off started the X3 with the remote much better than the new version - here I have to wait for the "Awakening"-function... that takes minimum 10 seconds or more...
    Am I right that X3 and old remote cannot work together anymore since update???

    The new GPS remote is not worth the expense. I bought it to remote control my X3 and one RS 1” 360 edition mounted on tall 3m poles.
    My reasons for not buying are as follows:
    1. It claim to be able to connect to multiple Insta360 cameras. This feature does not work. It will connect to only one insta 360 camera.
    2. The distance for remote control is than 15m. Any further, the link got disconnected. I am using the remote in an open field with no trees or building around.
    3. The remote can disconnect itself, while the camera is recording video. Very unreliable and inconsistent to stay linked to my camera.

    I bought the remote controll because it is said on their website that it can control up to 3 cameras. This got confirmed by Insta360 support at first. So I bought 3 INSTA360 ONE RS cameras just to find out that: Yes, you can connect up to 3 cameras to the remote control. And the remote can shut all 3 cameras off. BUT it can only re-start one of them (the last one which was connected to the remote). So for me that means that this is completely useless, as I need to be able to to controll all 3 cameras including turning them off and on again, which does not work. Which also got confirmed by Insta360 support once I filed a ticket with technical support why 2 of 3 cameras won't wake up... The thing that me annoys the most is that they advertise that up to 3 cameras are supported, but nobody tells you that you can't wake them up...

      GPS Smart Remote has a real life duration of ~10h. But drains battery while turned off in around 4-5 days.
      GPS Action Remote has a real life duration of ~8h. Which is a result of the lower battery capacity and higher transmission power, but pretty okay for that.
      It charges to full in around 38min and holds its power over several weeks while turned off. After 3 weeks mine had still between 3/4 and 4/5th of its capacity.

    Please note that while this remote can pair with 3 Insta360 X2 ONE / X3 etc. cameras it fails dismally to provide GPS data if not paired to ONE SINGLE camera. The moment you have more than one camera paired out goes the valuable GPS data!! So if you, like me, have two or more Insta360 cameras compatible with this remote and mount them to your bike/motorcycle you will only be able to change a few modes and stop/start recording BUT ZERO GPS data... A real disappointment then!

      Are you using any other BT device, e.g. airpods? There is a limitation of only one BT device at a time, so using one requires disconnection of the other (with no automatic reconnect). If that's not the problem, it sounds like you may have an issue with either the remote or the camera.

    Or they could just make an apple watch app that can handle all those features without building A hardware

    The insta360
    This has a few issues.
    😢No way of telling how may satellites are connected.
    😢 No details on the types of satellites connected.
    😢 The screen lights turn to green too quickly, and so information cannot be read in darker environments

      The LED goes green the moment GPS signal is acquired.
      If the display goes dark, simply short press the power button on the remote to light it up again.
      Indeed an option to disable or to set a display off timer would be nice.
      What I do after having my X3 connected to the Remote, I sync the displays.
      The GPS Action Remote display goes dark after ~30s without any interaction.
      My X3 "Auto Sleep" is set also to 30s.
      So after both are connected I short press the power button on the X3 to send the display to sleep mode.
      After the GPS Action Remote has darken its display, pressing its power button wakes up both - Remote and X3 - in sync.
      GPS Action Remote uses 3 GNSS with 2 WAAS.
      Those are American GPS, Russian GLONASS, Chinese Beidou with support for Asian WASS (WideAreAgumentationSystem) which include primarily BDSBAS (Beidou based) and Japanese MSAS which is compatible to European EGNOS.
      Keep in mind even with external GPS receivers like a Garmin Glo2 you don't get detailed information about the number of "seen" satellites or their signal quality without using debug API, so it's not so surprising that you don't see that with the GPS Action Remote.

    Your review is missing a very important feature, that, by the way, doesn't work. This feature is the QuickCapture mode where you press the red circle on the remote and the X3 should jump to life and start recording. Well, this feature causes the X3 to crash. And yes, all the firmware is up to date. I feel that the remote is a piece of junk because of this and a complete waste of money.

    cant get it to reliably connect to either the 360 rs or the x3. Awful software

      I hear you - BT connectivity is probably the #1 issue.

    Don't buy this remote if you own a RS or R. So many problems concerning connecting fails over and over again. Not sure X2 and X3 owners experience the same problem.

      With X2 and X3, once connected it’s normally pretty reliable. Problems occur when you try to connect different BT devices.

      More BT devices? To the camera? I've just got one @@ttl_channel

      You can also add a BT microphone (just not at the same time) and there are also reconnection issues if you pair the remote with a different camera.

    • @19ab59
      @19ab59 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's not the case. The remote wakes up the camera but won't connect. I've to pair it again each time.@@ttl_channel

    DO NOT BUY if you own a one R. It is completely USELESS. It pairs fine and wakes up the camera and gets stuck at "awakening camera" after it wakes up the camera. Then it goes into "camera disconnected". Tried multiple solutions but nothing works. I regret buying the remote and have to control the camera manually. Amazing hardware and video quality let down by the USELESS remote.

      I have to agree - bluetooth has always been a weak point with Insta360 cameras, and $80 is also a bit steep!
