Took my Neo on its first flights yesterday. First landing it landed on my fingers and fell to the ground - no harm done, but it makes you realise that you should make sure the drone is centred when landing. Watching your vids showed me all the basics which was appreciated.
Yea bro it’s durable I saw someone drop the neo from 100 meters I think it was and it only had a dent on the camera sides I was taking off from my window and it fell probably 10 meters and nothing happened
I created an automation using the Automation App on the iPhone to switch the Do Not Disturb function everytime the phone is connected to the Drone's WiFi to eliminate the risk of loosing connection to the drone whilst in flight using the DJI Fly App (because it will, if you ever exit the app and need to reconnect to the Drone).
If you lose WiFi in an awkward spot and you don't have the controller with you, try holding your phone up above your head to get it to reconnect. When working with radio waves, "height is might", and lifting your phone can dramatically improve the range. Also... Most phones reduce the power allocated to the WiFi module when Bluetooth and/or GPS is turned on, so if its possible to turn off either of those things and still connect to the Neo (I'm not sure if that's possible), you will almost certainly get better WiFi bandwidth.
As someone whose been building and operating RC Aircraft the worst mistake a new comer makes is, try to save up by using Phone to Control the RC Gadgets. The point is, if your spending money on drone go for the compatible RC controller as well. As drone RC controllers is designed to specifically to control the RC Aircraft. While Phone is designed to be use to communicate with other Phone. Same as the rules when cutting a plywood board, use the saw not the hammer. Even if you could smash the board in half with a hammer. You're not going to end up with clean cuts. So the effort is wasted and in the end could be more expensive.
If you loose connection flying by WiFi and you own FMC thus RC-N3 controller, you can simply start the controller. There even is no need to fumble around, connect your phone to the controller, start the Fly app etc. No, the controller itself can connect to Neo and if in sight you can fly the drone back simply using the controller. So even if you intend to use Neo on your trip using the drone itself using button modes only or phone Wifi controll, always put your RC as a backup solution in your bag.
I think this is wrong information. I thought about this too but you can only connect the controller if the controller is on first and then you turn on the drone after the controller is already on. If your drone is already flying and then you turn on the controller it will not connect. Which is a bummer I wish it was like you explained. Maybe with a future update we will get this option.
@ Well, it used to work and so I got more daring using WiFi control. I tried again after your post, because maybe newer firmware changed behaviour, but it still works. You can check without danger yourself. Start Neo using WiFi manual control, and when in the air close Fly App, turn phone flight mode on or shut phone down, start RC - and it still takes over control
Pro tip: you can create automations on iOS to automatically turn on Do Not Disturb mode when the DJI Fly app is open and automatically turn it off again when you close the app!
Losing signal and not returning to home automatically is ludicrous! Cmon dji that’s such an easy firmware like all other drones. Thumbs down for dji wanting you to lose your drone so you can buy another one. This truly is unacceptable with such and easy fix.
Oh yeah and you cannot override the takeoff function. So mine is stuck in some branches. It could EASILY wiggle out, but because there is no manual override, it is stuck about 400 ft in the air, unreachable by anything at all. I was able to spot it. That's it. But man it could have wiggled free. 😢
@ayannadivineempath to many variables where it's easy to lose your drone and a simple return home no matter what like all the other drones, they could write that software upgrade in a day.
@@TSbiker10 I know but defeats the autonomous purpose, they could fix that in one easy update! Something that huge should not be ignored by dji just saying 🤔😎
This drone is great. I've got a few other DJI drones(6 in total) and this is my favourite todate. Does the Neo recognise the hand land gesture only after Follow me mode or after all modes? Does it also recognise a hand in gloves or just a bare hand?
How hard would it to be to have a virtual fence. For Pete's sake. It should be that when it starts to lose signal, it should start the return home process.
Water is a No Brainer but the same goes for flying out over a vertical drop, off a balcony, or other place with no bottom. All of these are places you can't get to if you lose communication link.
@@rickh6942 which is unacceptable and easy fix to have it return home as soon as signal loss so you can regain signal. I mean really how hard is it to fix that in firmware!!!! They want ya to lose the drone to buy another.
Another mistake would be when you fly it manually and want to get the drone to land, DON'T use the palm underneath method because it will confuse the drone making it believe it's too close to the ground. Use the palm landing in automated modes only.
A suggestion- cut a slightly larger than hand-sized section of FOAMCORE. Use permanent markers /paint to create a unique pattern on one side of the FOAMCORE. Attach nylon webbing backpack style handhold straps yo the obverse side. This helps in safe launching and retrieving the NEO.
@@ronsindric4241 the problem wasn't the size of the hand :) it was in manual mode and it doesn't land on the hand in that mode, I made a mistake. A landing pad is a good idea for outdoor take off / landing.
Great coverage and tips👍 Although there has been updates in the Firmware there is still no RTH on the phone app and no basic exposure adjustment too. I was hoping to fly from a boat, but I’m not sure now as the downwards sensors don’t appear compatible? May hold off my purchase for a while now 🥴
Got mine a few days ago after watching loads of your videos.I got the goggles N3 combo it's amazing outside but testing at inside because of our typical northern Irish weather is a disaster it freaks out crashes lol
Wonder if you can help. I have a set of Neewer ND/PL filters for my mini 4 pro. On the rotating lens there is a white dot and the same on the body. I think these need to be alined when using portrait mode. But not got a clue where the marks need to be for landscape. Appreciate your time
Hi sir I have a problem of my DJI neo. When I tilt the gimbal the footage is not moving in a vertical straight line. It shifts from left to right causing wobbling video. Can you help me. Thank you❤️
How did You even try to fly in low light? My Neo always autolands in dim light, and often even in daylight over dark or untextured ground. It went down in a muddy field twice, because the sensors mistook the dark mud as darkness. This is to me such a big issue that i cannot understand it's in none of the videos. I am starting to suspect it is an issue with my drone specifically, or has anyone made similar experiences?
I’d be cautious. I’ve flown it over water using the controller, and several times it’s dipped closer to the surface. The downward sensors tend to struggle near water.

ITS TOO LATE, YESTERDAY I WAS MOVING THE DRONE ON THE SIDE OF A RIVER AND IT CAUGHT ON SOME TREE BRANCHES AND NEVER CAME DOWN 😭😭😭😭😭 too late!😅 Thank god for DJI care.
Today, my drone sank just a few meters from the shore. I was planning to shoot a video of the direction track, and after launching the drone, it started swaying from side to side. I had a chance to grab it when it got close to me, but I hesitated, and in the next moment, it dashed toward the water and began descending rapidly. Then it just dove into the water, and I couldn’t find it anymore. It got caught in a receding wave and was pulled into deeper water. Just like that. Literally on the second day of my vacation. After analyzing the situation, it seemed to me that the drone mistook the incoming and outgoing waves for the surface and started swaying side to side with the waves, even though the water depth was only 10-15 cm.
Sorry to hear that, but it sounds a lot like something that happened to me. I lost a Neo a few weeks ago too. It was over water, started descending rapidly, and then crashed into the waves. Mine pretty much vanished as well. I searched for ages, but couldn’t find it.
"Many upgrades" = more expensive. The whole point of Neo, from my perspective, is that it's a cheap toy/first drone that you would use to learn how to fly a drone for not much $$$ and without becoming suicidal if/when you break it or lose it.
In the last three videos I've seen you lose multiple Neos by flying over water with a poor signal. I'm starting to think there's some sort of insurance scam going on here... 😜
