Shawn, I just purchased a 2017 Chieftain Dark Horse from Indian of Charlotte here in North Carolina. I've owned a Road King and an Electra Glide and the Indian is hands down the smoothest ride I have ever owned. Thanks for the Vlogs on the Indian. She is a sweet ride!
I love the Indians. Rode the Chieftain , Vintage and Road master. These bike are just fantastic! You need to ride them out here in the Mojave desert. Just incredible. We were cruising 110 mph on these bikes and they rode super smooth. Awesome job Polaris.
I fell in love with the Dark Horse and then they brought out the Springfield which I love even more however, if they make a Springfield Dark Horse I'll be over the moon!!!! Another great vid too!
I've said i before but I'll say it again. You've got the best job getting to put those together and test ride them. Too many beautiful bikes to choose from
Wow, wow, wow. Beautiful bike. Chieftain was high on list before, the the dark horse version puts it over the top. Love it. Thanks for the review, Shawn.
Just based on the floorboards alone I'd trade in the Street Glide. Indian has by far the most comfortable, much more room and they're tilted back at the perfect angle. Makes perfect sense to have them tilted. And then there's that jewel of an engine, monstrous torque. Shifts like butter, what's there to think about.
I agree with you Shawn on this one. I went and looked at it yesterday and also started loving it. Thinking about adding it to my stable. Other then using a good mild soap and water, how hard is it maintaining the mat finish?
Gorgeous bike indeed. We used to have a 1976 Bicentennial Harley sportster but had to sell when the ole man was diagnosed with degenerative disk disease in his back, doc said he couldn't ride anymore. sad sad day.
Just out of curiosity, did you clean the spooge off the seat after the ride? It's the proper thing to do. I'm one of those people that does not care for flat black. Harley always seems to feel the need to put red pin striping all over it and to me it is ugly. This bike however, I think I am swayed towards it. It looks pretty damn good.
OMG! you Sold it to me! Love the Black Colour, its the King of Bikes.i can see you are in love with it, I was thinking you was the Harley Guy now I'm thinking you are the Indian guy thanks so much for taking us along
Hey Shawn. Just my opinion but I think that chieftain and the roadster would make stable mates in your garage. I can't wait to see a Springfield Dark Horse come out.
Does this one have the adjustable windshield also? I don't know you just bought the Street Glide. But hey you always have more room in the garage for another family member. Ride Safe
I don't like flat black paint but all Indians are freaking gorgeous, no matter what color. I can't wait for what else they have coming out in the future.
How does the feel of these bikes compare with the organic, mechanical experience of riding a Harley? I would consider getting one but I want the sound, feel, and even smell like Harleys have.
joshuamurray86 I don't think you would be happy. Indians don't leak oil, vibrate or brake down. You can run them all day long at 120 on the chip and they don't use a drop of oil. I guess they are made in America too. It's not a good idea to do the stage 2 cams either because you may quit working so you can ride 24/7. The 111 is all new designs. It's overbuilt to the extreme but very mild right now. It reminds me of the 283 Chevy, it's probably going to have a 70 year run like the 283 with more trick parts in the pipeline forever. The bottom end and transmission were designed to hold 300 HP. The top end will go to about 150hp as is. That's a lot of future and the bike is hella fast out of the box.
I agree with you: It's the most beautiful Indian out there. Period. Still I don't really get along with the overall Indian-design. It's a bit too "cheesy" for me. However, the rumble of the engine at idle is really sweet.
I am watching you from Scotland and each time you show Indian I travel to Edinburgh to Indian dealership to get test ride. It is hard to decide to move from my 2012 roadliner as I love it to Indian but Indian had something.... If you get one I will go for chieftain.
"It's a beaut,Clark! It's a Beaut!" I'd swap it in a New York second, but then I'm not a Harley guy. You're going to have to sell Kelly on that too. Lol
Hi Shawn. Well, I have a 2015 electra glide and I wouldn't trade it for two of those... I don't like much of anything about the Indian. But, it's all individual taste I guess......
very cool bike, i test road a silver and black one yesterday and i was very pleased with the handling and overall feel. I did however think the seat was just a little hard and uncomfortable, but was the first bagger iv ever road, so the riding position was a little alien to me, but very sweet, and mind altering bike. loved every second of the ride, and ur video too of course..........lol
man , chris , I gotta sit on that silver and black chief , every time I stop in the cycle shop ! it has the right amount of blend for me ! come on lotto ; }
Overall I think the bike looks awesome, there's just something about the front fairing I dont like... maybe the turn signals? I dont know. I dont think Id trade in my SGS for it though.
While I'm not a big fan of the big tourers (Street Bob is the bike I want, so you can see where I'm coming from), that's definately a cool example of that class of bike. Quite understated, in my limited experience, for an Indian too. A bit of 'less is more', perhaps. Has to be said. You came close to 'gushing' there. If you'd taken it any farther, you'd have been like a teenage girl meeting her favourite movie star. :) It'd be cool if everyone had something that got them that excited. So. Yellowstone. What's it going to be? Harley, BMW, or Indian?
Indian by far but try out a victory cross country the invented forks makes for a beautiful ride I have a ultra classic 2016 and have been upgrading the suspension since I've purchased it .
+Buckeye Drew I bought my Cross Country Tour in February and it still amazes me how great it is. It feels like it was made for me ergonomically too. I'm 6'3" by the way.
That is funny. We all have so many wonderful choices, motorsports wise, these days no matter what your taste or preference. I am torn myself between another Victory or an Indian for touring. Throw in the new 1200 Triumph Bonneville for around town and just plain old shameless fun, and things rapidly become complicated. Well, good luck getting to sleep tonight! They are motorcycles....all you can do is follow your heart and appease your passion.
Rode on a demo ride day, the "Dark Horse, nice riding bike, but just can't wrap my arms around it , especially don't like the front fender. Sorry, just my opinion.
Man I've been watching Indians and Shawn my goodness that machine is mean. Next year will be my purchase year for a bike my dad has a 14 sgs Morocco Gold. I want that Indian.
+Okie Rider - I could very well end up with the awesome Chieftain Dark Horse at some point, but the Iron lives in its own world, and is so different from a bagger style bike, I'll be keeping that gal... Would be sick to have both bikes though!! Thanks for watching!
Ralph Martinet So, now we are resorting to insults like some kid in 5th grade? Don't answer that question as it is a rhetorical one. I'm merely saying that because the Iron 883 has one of the worst geometry and setup in its class as a beginner bike.
OMG ! I So want need desire require it's gonna be my new life drug of desire it sets my heart on fire im gonna write a song about this immaculate machine if you know what i mean, cos it's a lean mean riding machine !!!!!😎😛😎😛
That's one beautiful bike! I'm typically not thrilled with the classic style but this one really gets my heart pumping.
Oh man, you need to see it in person. Pictures and videos do it no justice...
Thanks for watching!

thank you Shawn , you came through again
I may drive down to visit and see that bike !
Wow, wow, wow. Beautiful bike. Chieftain was high on list before, the the dark horse version puts it over the top. Love it. Thanks for the review, Shawn.

When you bought your street glide I said I wished the Chieftain came like that. We'll who knew...Thanks for the vid Shawn!
Dude great video I smiled all the way through it!
Thats my dream bike really. Oh Smoak, I appreciate all the content brother. Your videos get me through when the savings get tough!
hope your not gonna trade that lovely Street Glide in Shawn it sure is a lovely looking bike though must be tempting.
Amazing review, Shawn. Thanks. Such beautiful, chromey bikes. We loved ours - took out the Chieftan and Chief Vintage.
OMG! you Sold it to me! Love the Black Colour, its the King of Bikes.i can see you are in love with it, I was thinking you was the Harley Guy now I'm thinking you are the Indian guy thanks so much for taking us along
I can't tell......did you like it or not?
I don't know if I like this or the Satin Silver Chieftain better. They are beautiful!
Wow! I love the look of that thing! It springs to the top of my list of the bike I want to buy. Thanks for the video:)
Hey Shawn. Just my opinion but I think that chieftain and the roadster would make stable mates in your garage. I can't wait to see a Springfield Dark Horse come out.
I couldn't tell when you were shifting gears! Smooth!
how is the suspension on these bikes? I do a lot of two up and would need to add passenger seat and back rest and probably a luggage rack.
I have been looking at this bike and a HD Road Glide Special. That flat black all over hypnotizes me. Which would you recommend performance wise?
Why are my feet wet?.... oh I was drooling. Clean up aisle 5 please....
Norm😳 looks blown away by it dude great colour not too much in your face bling wise 👍🏻
That looks amazing. However, I am in love with the 2016 Springfield.
Does this one have the adjustable windshield also? I don't know you just bought the Street Glide. But hey you always have more room in the garage for another family member. Ride Safe
Nice bike. Looks like fun. I have a 2010 H-D Road Glide and am used to heel shifting. Does Indian offer a heel shift set up?
John Kenneally Yes, they do as an after purchase option.
I agree! Flat black is sexy and I like the chieftain over the SGS. Just my personal preference!
I don't like flat black paint but all Indians are freaking gorgeous, no matter what color. I can't wait for what else they have coming out in the future.

One of the best looking Indian Motorcycles I've seen yet! Bring it to Yellowstone for a test ride ;-)
Great vid! Have you done or thinking of doing a Scout review?
Shawn Smoak Is this with original exhaust? Great video and the bike is freakin awesome
I agree with you: It's the most beautiful Indian out there. Period.
Still I don't really get along with the overall Indian-design. It's a bit too "cheesy" for me. However, the rumble of the engine at idle is really sweet.
NICE....I'm trading in my Suzuki Boulevard.
Thanks for the ride!
Frigging sweet , I could see that sitting next to my Victory Vegas.
Nice...very, very nice. What would the price be on something like this Shawn??
I wish they would have done gloss black, but I would buy this over the chromed out chieftain any day of the week
I am watching you from Scotland and each time you show Indian I travel to Edinburgh to Indian dealership to get test ride. It is hard to decide to move from my 2012 roadliner as I love it to Indian but Indian had something.... If you get one I will go for chieftain.

You're going to have to sell Kelly on that too. Lol
The Springfield is gorgeous also.
I like this and the flat grey Indian you had reviewed
Nice bike, but I think I prefer the Springfield...now THAT is a beautiful machine!
Beautiful bike and looks good in that scheme. Indian really makes em like works of art. After all its only money right?
Man I hope they release a road master dark horse. That flat look with the ride command system. I would beg, borrow, steal to get it.
Do it!!!! That bike fits you perfectly! Looks great! Awesome Bike! I would trade in the harley for it if I was you!
The problem I have with flat paint is you just cannot get scratches out of it. I have a flat black vulcan 900 and its just a pain. But it is sexy
Just do it Shawn You know you want her !
Hi Shawn. Well, I have a 2015 electra glide and I wouldn't trade it for two of those... I don't like much of anything about the Indian. But, it's all individual taste I guess......
No radio? Could you review the accessories? Does it compete with HD.?
justgot the 17 dark horse 109 i paid for my radio and it kicks all built in
That's a good looking bike butt I really like my S G S lots more . You sure got a good Life Shawn.
very cool bike, i test road a silver and black one yesterday and i was very pleased with the handling and overall feel. man, I'm drooling. I just bought my Ultra, but maybe my next bike.
It's a beautiful bike. And I love the black out design and color. One day she will be mine. One day...
That fairing is beast :D
Go for it Shawn!! You only live once :).
Cheers - Kevin
Overall I think the bike looks awesome, there's just something about the front fairing I dont like... maybe the turn signals? I dont know. I dont think Id trade in my SGS for it though.
Absolutely Amazing!Absolutely Amazing!Absolutely Amazing!Absolutely Amazing!Absolutely Amazing!Absolutely Amazing!
The Street Glide works better for you I think. What kills the deal for me is the infotainment "dash" on the Chieftains.
Does the windshield adjust up/down?
i heard you cant easily fix flat black if you scratch it, is that true? thanks
Jack Gold yes you are right Matt black can't be easily fixed but if fixed the patch can be noticed easily
don't worry about no back seat. give the Harley to the wife and buy the CDH for you. twice the bags for long trips together.
Just STUNNING ! Then again, nothing sounds like a Harley. But what do I know. Tcrs
While I'm not a big fan of the big tourers (Street Bob is the bike I want, so you can see where I'm coming from), that's definately a cool example of that class of bike. Quite understated, in my limited experience, for an Indian too. A bit of 'less is more', perhaps.

So. Yellowstone. What's it going to be? Harley, BMW, or Indian?
Sell the SG and the Iron for her if needed, lovely bike for sure!
I like to tell myself that I'm holding out for a Springfield Dark Horse.
Where did Norm go for those 20 seconds? Does he do that often? LOL
What is it with you and mirriors?
Yeah Shawn, I'm sorry but I think I VASTLY prefer the Street Glide.
Would you ever consider going to an Indian from the SGS? Which one do you think rides better or are they about the same?
Indian by far but try out a victory cross country the invented forks makes for a beautiful ride I have a ultra classic 2016 and have been upgrading the suspension since I've purchased it .
The Victory CC is by far my dream bike I test rode the Tour Edition a few weeks ago, I have a video up of that.
+Buckeye Drew I bought my Cross Country Tour in February and it still amazes me how great it is. It feels like it was made for me ergonomically too. I'm 6'3" by the way.
I don't blame you Shawn, it's a sexy bike
lol i agree its a badass bike. you should trade your harley for it
Man don't trade the Harley you know the Harley is gonna be worth more in the end!!!
That is funny. We all have so many wonderful choices, motorsports wise, these days no matter what your taste or preference. I am torn myself between another Victory or an Indian for touring. Indian does make some beautiful bikes. You need to add one to your stable.
Rode on a demo ride day, the "Dark Horse, nice riding bike, but just can't wrap my arms around it , especially don't like the front fender. Sorry, just my opinion.
Now thats what you call a bike
The PNW beautiful I miss it.
how's the stereo and no navigation
I'm about to purchase one in a few days
Beautiful! Get it Smoak!
I've been wanting one this one thanks one will be coming home with me soon
Great bike. If I were to buy a cruiser again I would buy an Indian.
I think Cupid gotta you really good this time ! Lol-
I don't appreciate you ridin that smoak!!! Now i want one!!!!! Haha
Did Norm fall asleep standing up ?
Man I've been watching Indians and Shawn my goodness that machine is mean. Next year will be my purchase year for a bike my dad has a 14 sgs Morocco Gold. I want that Indian.
So um...you kinda like that bike a little maybe?
Its a great riding bike just ordered one.
She's a beauty all right!
Gorgeous bike!!!
Indians never been my choice in design. But yes, power and suspension oh lord they done it right!
The wrap around front fender does not do it for me, but I would not say no.
Beautiful bike.
I understand you take the HD's in on trades, how about a real solid Dodge Caravan....
If Darth Vader rode bikes.
mrtequilashooter
But with red LED lights and lasers. lol
If I were you, I'd trade that Iron 883 for this Chieftain Dark Horse. Then, you'll have the best of both worlds, a Harley SG and a Indian Chieftain.
+Okie Rider - I could very well end up with the awesome Chieftain Dark Horse at some point, but the Iron lives in its own world, and is so different from a bagger style bike, I'll be keeping that gal... Would be sick to have both bikes though!!
Thanks for watching!
Yeah right, get rid of the small nimble fun 883 and get ANOTHER basically same type of big bagger. What a dumbass Okie
Ralph Martinet So, now we are resorting to insults like some kid in 5th grade? Don't answer that question as it is a rhetorical one. I'm merely saying that because the Iron 883 has one of the worst geometry and setup in its class as a beginner bike.
