Sword + Eye of Reach for me. Got everything covered, good at any range, don't have to worry about running out of ammo, can block, can lunge, and can sword hop. An extremely versatile loadout.

The solution I found is stating before any fight I partake in "Greetings, opponent! I'll have you know I suck at pvp!" This way, when i start jumping around their ship while making my best impression of a pokemon trainer, if I die I say "See? Told ya" and hopefully get a laugh off from them and if they die I can say "Hah! And I thought I sucked!" and if they're a good sport i can still get a laugh off. Either way, I try to make it as silly as possible. The way you counter toxic people is to take them so little seriously that they start wondering whether you're a troll or absolutely Crazy
I've only put about 60 Hours into the game, but have become more accustomed to Cutlass + EoR just for versatility purposes. Learning the mobility tricks of the sword in combination with quickscoping EoR is absolutely destructive in many cases i've discovered. Compared to the times i'd tested other loadouts (Generally using a Gun+Sword) it just feels far more comfortable to me. Being able to snipe Kegs out of a crowsnest before I board a ship is also very helpful, especially when I whiff my chainshots on the mast. Eventually i'll attempt double gunning with EoR + Blunder, but until I hone my game sense, it's probably best I don't. I've been told that using a sword is just showing I lack skill, which may be true, but having the ability to block wild swings from others & the mobility of lungehopping is enough to justify the use.
Honestly, I feel like not using the sword is a big disadvantage in PvE. The main gamemode of Adventure really is built for versatility. You can't be prepared for only PvE or PvP, you gotta be able to change it up when the situation calls for it. So with that in mind, using sword is just ideal. Cutlas Eor and Cutlass Flint are my 2 fav to use rn, just because I love the Cutlass as well as I love using those guns. EoR feels good bc I was able to keg an enemy ship once but died before lighting it, but ended up able to snipe it from crow's nest to sink them. Flint because, well. . . I like the hipfire. I don't care much for needing to always aim down sights, so having a really accurate hipfire is always a bonus.
I use blunder/pistol and it's not as bad as you imply in this video, it's more useful than blunder/sword in PvP. The main difference from EoR/Blunder is that you can execute the combo more quickly since you can hipfire the pistol and quickswap into the blunder, the slight decrease in damage is not super relevant in most boarding scenarios where PvP happens. It's not the best combo in the game (that is still probably EoR/Blunder) but it's definitely still viable despite having drawbacks. Especially if you hate quickscoping.

i use this combo too. its great for both pve and pvp. im newer and i did try out sword and pistol and that combo is alright, but doesn't beat the blunder/pistol. EOR is just too much aiming and iim not good at it.

Yeah and to be fair no one should really pay any attention to them. Gun combos are nearly 100% personal preference and all of them are more or less viable in every situation so just go with whatever feels best to you.

Honestly, same. The pistol is just so nice to use, especially with that hipfire, and sword is a MUST for me. I like the fight up close and personal, so a melee is always nice.
I started yesterday so I’m just binging your videos, I love the game and everything, I personally like the feel of the flintlock so far and bc it has a lot of maneuverability so I’ll probably build a class around that, thank you for your help and tips
I'd recommend a Mercenary or Aristocrat flintlock because they have an ironsight where right at the tip of it when you fire it fires in line with it Good luck on your adventures
For me I’ve just sat at an outpost practicing swapping weapons and I’ve managed to figure out how to use sniper and sword and swapping fast enough that it cancels the reload animation and it’s so quick I can shoot straight after the other shot so I’ma see how it fares in a fight
I would argue that blunders 1 shot ability is actually a bit OP. That combined with its knock back is pretty stupid imo. No weapon system in this game has the ability to one shot players besides kegs and cannons. The ability to just instantly end a fight on a ladder or around a stairwell is just so much stronger than the swords slow hack and slash that allows players to even get away. This game will always favor a pin point front loaded damage model approach as opposed to the slow hack and slash approach. One is so much harder to counter than the other. It saddens me to say it but sword < blunderbuss. In any serious PvP environment you’re just bringing a knife to a gun fight.
I love using blunder and flintlock for order of souls, I think its great because it can 1 hit skellies with blunder and kill kegs easily. (by 1 hit skellies I mean normally I strugle with golden ones)
@@jacobnowicki3790 a little bit late (like 8 months late lol) but fire bombs work wonders against groups of skellys, golden included. Also tridents work great too, just do a second charge shot and it might even kill several of them in one hit due to splash damage.
So I just watched four of your videos, because i want get better at pvp in sot. I had some encounters with other players already and I wasn't so bad (main reason why I was failing was spawncamping mixed with being flooded by enemy players), But I decided I want to get better, to point of being a small problem for invaders at least. I once managed to win 1v2. I think there were two reasons why I won that fight. No one of us really knew how to aim and we all were equally bad (I was using sword&EoR) and also I always prepare for myself 3 to 5 fishes to eat. So, when when they were eating bananas and coconuts, I healed myself almost fully with big fish. Thank you man for all those advices, they will come very handy in next encounter. I hope that bag of sour patch kids was enough to record this film enjoyably.

I normally use the pistol+cutlass, the speed and mobility It gives me in both pvp and pve situations in my friends words, “makes me a white blur.” I understand the appeal of the eye of reach but I personally believe that the reload speed is a godsend. Specifically you have the eye of reach hit and two sword hits, and a pistol shot and two sword hits, that’s the same amount of hits (excluding hit reg.)
I like the flintlock; found Phuzzy and Blurbs afterwards due to looking for ways to improve my specific love of this combo. Telling people to avoid the flintlock as a newbie is also a perfect way to not improve in the combo.
As a brand new player your videos are very helpful. I'm sad I missed out on Arena mode for practicing PVP. Every time I encounter players that aren't brand new they sink me. It makes me not even want to try to make money or level up emmisarys until I get PVP figured out. Also, sour patch kids.
I have only fought a crew around my level once, started playing 3 days ago, if I run into a competent galleon they sink my sloop in around 20 seconds, a chainshot lands and Im fucked

i feel like the pistol cutlass is the beginners choice. You get a quick fire, medium damage, medium range weapon and a closeup weapon with mobility and infinity ammo. When you just begin, keeping track of the ammo and the reload of two weapons like the EoR or Blunder might not be ideal for newer players. Also the Blunder-Cutlass combo is basically the defensive loadout. Specially if in a smaller vessel, blunder one shots+knockback and the fact that the cutlass can neglect damage from another cutlass, helps you stay alive and drop enemies out of your ship (the knockback from the sword dash and the movement of the dodge can help to give chase)
I love the sword and flintlock, I can usually get a flintlock shot on pvp/pve just by knowing the center of my screen and not having to aim and then sword stunning them and finishing it
There are 2 kinds of opponents 1: *doesn't pay attention to what weapons you used and says "GG man!" after battles* 2: *no matter what weapons you use they'll call you garbage because of the weapon they died to. You're a sweat lord if you win, and a n00b if you lose*

Dear Sour Patch Kid, you didn't mention the fact that a sword lunge does 50 damage. You can also break out of a sword lunge by grabbing something like the cannon, water barrel, anchor, sails, or wheel. Personally if it was me I would have touched on the blunder bombs and the fire bombs. Otherwise very good video!
@@curly8040 Shoot, switch weapons, run forward a split second to animation cancel, then aim down sights and fire your second shot. Takes some practice but you can develop the muscle memory. Try it on the bell on your mast while idly sailing and you'll have it mastered in no time.
"The sword has a small range/ radius" not true at all. Sword needs a nerf as well a genral fix, as 6/10 times i swear i get hit thru my block when i running sword instead of dg'ing
Towards the end of the video you said if we have questions to ask. I’m new to this game, very new. Is there a good flintlock skin I should be using with good accuracy and iron sites? I find some go to high or to low, one I tried using went way high and to the right
Sniper+blunder or Sniper+sword are the meta and best all around combos to use. It is very rare for you to see a really good player not using the sniper. The sniper can be used in close quarters easily so the flintlock is kinda useless especially since the hitreg is really bad on it and has considerably less dps. For special situations like getting spawn camped on your ship or pve only I would recommend blunder sword but it is really only viable on your ship.
Some of the stereotypes are true of me. I run sword/blunder and sword/eye of reach. I am mainly a pve pirate and most of the time I do run. Most of the time I get away to, but thats beside the point. I have been called a pve bot, a sword bot etc. Even by players I killed rather easily. I dont wear the crab outfit though, I always found that rather ugly. Would never judge someone for wearing it though.
sword just gives you a crap tonne of mobility which might be very important in a lot of the adventure mode situations and you can block m1 spammers. The pistol actually allows you to shoot twice before the person can heal once so effectively has enough dps to negate the other persons healing. Again they are two swipes with the sword after 1 shot or a single blunder bomb if it lands flush on them. If i was to do arena on a sloop id go eye of reach blunder, but in adventure mode sword mobility can do so much for you like lunging quickly to a fort tower or covering mid range distances that can give you a tactical advantage in a fight (where you could use stationary cannons to do even more damage or board less obviously than firing yourself out of a cannon. So id say it depends what you play. But in adventure mode id definitely use sword flintlock or sword EoR.
I love sword because: 1- don't worry about ammo 2- No need to reload if you miss a hit 3- can block sword spammers 4- Sword dashes can do the same knockback as a blunderbuss but hitting multiple targets (Especially in a brigantine) 5- You can dodge snipers if you know how to jump by blocking at the right time
I think EoR + Cutlass dont make much sense unless the enemy eats often (or if they have a food better than coconuts) both need a shot and 2 swotd hits to kill, so the pistol is better because it reload faster, if u miss the shot of another enemy spawn this faster reload will help a lot Or blunderbuss and sword is good too, if u hit 5 bullets it will have the same function of a pistol or if u hit 8 u will just need more 1 sword hit, or if u hit all u just kill in 1 shot
I mainly use blunder cutlass cuz I mainly do sloop and I don't board often so i can pve, guard ladders and block incoming attacks from sword and win close quarter fights.
yes even tho the wiki provides us with it, it would be nice to have it all in one video. the 5 or 6 fruits snake, chicken and pigs shark, fishing fishies?, meg and kraken how long each needs to be cooked and why/why not you should be going for meat instead of fruit. just a tip, SoC can make it however they want. i simply just think it would be awesome instead of browsing the wiki :D
I also use Sword + Eye of reach My combo is that i hit someone with EOR and then sword lunge into them as a finisher I stay away from people in PvP to hit them with EOR more easily and sword lunge is a good gap closer and if it hits the player its an instant kill
How do i get my friend to not rage when we sink? We are at same lvl and hes the best sot players i know as a friend. But everytime we sink he by pvp he starts crying
Really it just comes down to personal preference, in the end, the weapons are mostly balanced and there's no OP setup, I personally love the Blundy + Eye of Reach, I switch to Sword + Eye of Reach during PvE but I can't stand using it in PvP, personally :D Also, those stereotypes are pretty harsh lol

Legendary blunderbuss it is no longer available since the removal of arena though there is a re-skin in you can get and if you got pl in the first year I think you got a different variation.
A tip for all those looking to get good at the sniper quickscoping Go to safer seas and put down a skeleton fort Training with skeletons is the first step
I use blunder eye of reach and sometimes blunder flintlock if I need to use it but I have been recently trying to get the ashen curse and for most pve stuff I use blunder cutlass
I use sword and pistol or sword and blunder for pvp. I find the blunder works well with a sword on sloops as long as you don't get knocked off the deck.
I love flintlock and sword because the flint is so easy to no scope so quicker reaction time and it does 50 damage but, I also like eye of reach and flintlock
in the first year of the game (the time i played most) i alway payed pistol+ blunder and i have to say it was fine for me. people usually tended to run in your face to use the sword after you fire the pistol, and they're not happy when they got close and i switch to blunder and one shot them. i never felt the aye of reach good for me. now i usually go sword+ pistol

Not sure what to use myself, but I don't like quick scoping, EoR is not accurate on hipfire while flintlock is and deals only like 20 - 15 damage less, So defo using flintlock, but then not sure if i should use a sword or a shotgun, shotgun is my way of jumping on some and i think i like it more than a sword, but then it's either a flint w a sword or shotgun w a sword for me, I can't really decide so i just double gun and at some cases switch to a sword and shotgun cause i like staying in their faces
I don't know what it is, but I just can't seem to find ANY pvp. I just got the game and have been playing for a few days. Arena is removed I think, so I can't do that. But any time I do the " adventure " mode i have never seen another ship. Ever. Is it because I didn't fully complete the tutorial or something?

Cutlass takes plenty of skill, only sweaty double gunners say otherwise.
If people say the sword is a skill-less, they're coping, and that's all.

I think you may find looking into it that the flintlock does 55 damage, could come in handy when deciding what to heal with

Cannons + Sword. That's the best combo to use. Carrying a cannon and dashing with the sword.

I like the flintlock; found Phuzzy and Blurbs afterwards due to looking for ways to improve my specific love of this combo. Telling people to avoid the flintlock as a newbie is also a perfect way to not improve in the combo.
As a brand new player your videos are very helpful. I'm sad I missed out on Arena mode for practicing PVP. Every time I encounter players that aren't brand new they sink me. It makes me not even want to try to make money or level up emmisarys until I get PVP figured out.

I have only fought a crew around my level once, started playing 3 days ago, if I run into a competent galleon they sink my sloop in around 20 seconds, a chainshot lands and Im fucked
Blunder and cutlass for pvp is actually pretty good but that’s only if you’re good at maneuvering on a ship when you get a board or they get a board
I got a lot of respect with your videos especially this one I'm still trying to figure out what combo is good for me I've been using eye of reach and pistol so far it's been doing good for me
i feel like the pistol cutlass is the beginners choice. You get a quick fire, medium damage, medium range weapon and a closeup weapon with mobility and infinity ammo. When you just begin, keeping track of the ammo and the reload of two weapons like the EoR or Blunder might not be ideal for newer players.
Also the Blunder-Cutlass combo is basically the defensive loadout. Specially if in a smaller vessel, blunder one shots+knockback and the fact that the cutlass can neglect damage from another cutlass, helps you stay alive and drop enemies out of your ship (the knockback from the sword dash and the movement of the dodge can help to give chase)
I love the sword and flintlock, I can usually get a flintlock shot on pvp/pve just by knowing the center of my screen and not having to aim and then sword stunning them and finishing it

1: *doesn't pay attention to what weapons you used and says "GG man!" after battles*
2: *no matter what weapons you use they'll call you garbage because of the weapon they died to. You're a sweat lord if you win, and a n00b if you lose*
Or you’re trash if you win, obviously the most logical argument but by far the most common
I like the flintlock and cutlass load out. I try the blunder and eye of reach but i rarely find myself in pvp scenarios

Well there were muscets with a decent range in pirate times, but they were not this precise and obviously they did not have a sniper scope XX
use cutlass, you can travel very fast especially through water
i usually use the blunder bus with the Cutlass when i do pve, and when i do pvp or fish a meg or kraken i use the eye of reach with the flintlock
Dear Sour Patch Kid, you didn't mention the fact that a sword lunge does 50 damage. You can also break out of a sword lunge by grabbing something like the cannon, water barrel, anchor, sails, or wheel. Personally if it was me I would have touched on the blunder bombs and the fire bombs. Otherwise very good video!

How do you do quickswap?
@@curly8040 Shoot, switch weapons, run forward a split second to animation cancel, then aim down sights and fire your second shot. Takes some practice but you can develop the muscle memory. Try it on the bell on your mast while idly sailing and you'll have it mastered in no time.

Sword has a range from the Savannah to Canada its insane it needs a nerf u can stand at Bell on sloop and hit a guy at the wheel i died to that

Towards the end of the video you said if we have questions to ask. I’m new to this game, very new. Is there a good flintlock skin I should be using with good accuracy and iron sites? I find some go to high or to low, one I tried using went way high and to the right
Sniper+blunder or Sniper+sword are the meta and best all around combos to use. It is very rare for you to see a really good player not using the sniper. The sniper can be used in close quarters easily so the flintlock is kinda useless especially since the hitreg is really bad on it and has considerably less dps. For special situations like getting spawn camped on your ship or pve only I would recommend blunder sword but it is really only viable on your ship.

Some of the stereotypes are true of me. I run sword/blunder and sword/eye of reach. I am mainly a pve pirate and most of the time I do run. Most of the time I get away to, but thats beside the point. I have been called a pve bot, a sword bot etc. Even by players I killed rather easily.
I dont wear the crab outfit though, I always found that rather ugly. Would never judge someone for wearing it though.
I haven’t played sea of thieves in about 2 years so this helps a lot
sword just gives you a crap tonne of mobility which might be very important in a lot of the adventure mode situations and you can block m1 spammers. The pistol actually allows you to shoot twice before the person can heal once so effectively has enough dps to negate the other persons healing. Again they are two swipes with the sword after 1 shot or a single blunder bomb if it lands flush on them. If i was to do arena on a sloop id go eye of reach blunder, but in adventure mode sword mobility can do so much for you like lunging quickly to a fort tower or covering mid range distances that can give you a tactical advantage in a fight (where you could use stationary cannons to do even more damage or board less obviously than firing yourself out of a cannon. So id say it depends what you play. But in adventure mode id definitely use sword flintlock or sword EoR.
I love sword because:
1- don't worry about ammo
2- No need to reload if you miss a hit
3- can block sword spammers
4- Sword dashes can do the same knockback as a blunderbuss but hitting multiple targets (Especially in a brigantine)
5- You can dodge snipers if you know how to jump by blocking at the right time
I think EoR + Cutlass dont make much sense unless the enemy eats often (or if they have a food better than coconuts) both need a shot and 2 swotd hits to kill, so the pistol is better because it reload faster, if u miss the shot of another enemy spawn this faster reload will help a lot
Or blunderbuss and sword is good too, if u hit 5 bullets it will have the same function of a pistol or if u hit 8 u will just need more 1 sword hit, or if u hit all u just kill in 1 shot
Blunder have the knockback that help a lot if u are boarding a sloop too
I mainly use blunder cutlass cuz I mainly do sloop and I don't board often so i can pve, guard ladders and block incoming attacks from sword and win close quarter fights.
I use Sword + EoR just so I can have close range (without having to worry about ammo) + long range
Also I like to block + sword lunge to islands

I also use Sword + Eye of reach
My combo is that i hit someone with EOR and then sword lunge into them as a finisher
I stay away from people in PvP to hit them with EOR more easily and sword lunge is a good gap closer and if it hits the player its an instant kill
why don't you change to flintlock? the lunge does 50 damage so its still an instant kill but you can hipfire
How do i get my friend to not rage when we sink? We are at same lvl and hes the best sot players i know as a friend. But everytime we sink he by pvp he starts crying
Really it just comes down to personal preference, in the end, the weapons are mostly balanced and there's no OP setup, I personally love the Blundy + Eye of Reach, I switch to Sword + Eye of Reach during PvE but I can't stand using it in PvP, personally :D

Sword and flintlock is what I use because I just don’t see pirates using snipers. I occasionally use sword and blunderbuss.
I like the cutlass and eye of reach, sometimes I'll use a blunder in pvp. But I have a strong bias for the Eye of Reach. I'm not effective at double gunning.
i just like the Sword + Pistol, both are fast, deal mid damage, and when Comboed together correctly, are devastating in PvE and PvP

Legendary blunderbuss it is no longer available since the removal of arena though there is a re-skin in you can get and if you got pl in the first year I think you got a different variation.

A tip for all those looking to get good at the sniper quickscoping Go to safer seas and put down a skeleton fort Training with skeletons is the first step
I use Sword/Blunder because with the current hitreg problems, you dont have to worry about shots not registering

I use blunder eye of reach and sometimes blunder flintlock if I need to use it but I have been recently trying to get the ashen curse and for most pve stuff I use blunder cutlass

I use sword and pistol or sword and blunder for pvp. I find the blunder works well with a sword on sloops as long as you don't get knocked off the deck.

in the first year of the game (the time i played most) i alway payed pistol+ blunder and i have to say it was fine for me. people usually tended to run in your face to use the sword after you fire the pistol, and they're not happy when they got close and i switch to blunder and one shot them. i never felt the aye of reach good for me. now i usually go sword+ pistol
I’ve been doing pistol+blunder recently. I just don’t like quickscoping in this game, and the pistol just feels more pirate.
I use sword and blunder. I really don't get the hate around it, it's an amazing combo for boarding and keeping people from boarding. Dare i say it's the best for doing that.

Not sure what to use myself, but I don't like quick scoping, EoR is not accurate on hipfire while flintlock is and deals only like 20 - 15 damage less, So defo using flintlock, but then not sure if i should use a sword or a shotgun, shotgun is my way of jumping on some and i think i like it more than a sword, but then it's either a flint w a sword or shotgun w a sword for me, I can't really decide so i just double gun and at some cases switch to a sword and shotgun cause i like staying in their faces
Blunder sword is great for newer tuckers or solo tuckers. Immediate assassination on helm then an easy 1v1. However snipe sword is just so crispy
I don't know what it is, but I just can't seem to find ANY pvp. I just got the game and have been playing for a few days. Arena is removed I think, so I can't do that. But any time I do the " adventure " mode i have never seen another ship. Ever. Is it because I didn't fully complete the tutorial or something?
