    The big problem with game reviewers is that they used to be gaming/tech enthusiasts in the 70s, 80s and 90s, but in the 2000s, as gaming became more mainstream, the old guard of enthusiasts that staffed those sites/magazines were replaced by young failed journalism degree holders and failed movie writers that hate games and gamers, but couldn't get jobs in the fields they wanted. Games journalism just happened to be the easy way to go for them.

      TBF, those reviews are important for people with similar experience. If there's a reviewer who's very noobish at MOBA's for example and he says that he didn't enjoy smite cause respawns are too long and item management is confusing, that lets others who aren't familiar/skilled at monad know that smite may not be for them and they should spend time else where. As long as you put in your review "I'm not familiar/skilled with _ genre so take this with a grain of salt", it's fine.
      Additionally taking chances on genres you suck at can lead to amazing discoveries. I hate 2d platformers, I'm not good at them, but I'll tell you Hollow Knight is one of the greatest games I've ever played period, and I'm pretty good at it. So when I, somebody who says "I don't like 2d platformers" says "I love hollow knight" that should tell you that it ain't just good , it's REAL good.
      All about transparency though, if you're not well versed on shooters, don't talk about it like you know them inside and out. Just let the audience/reader know your weaknesses and where you're comin from.

      Makes sense.
      It only ever gets bad if you see reviews in a way that confirm or deny your biases. It's only a problem if your game, or team, doesn't win.
      It's fine to have a review by a casual gamer for a cult hit or a game with an entrenched community.
      What would you rather have? People knowing nothing about a genre and then complaining about it 24/7, like it happened to Elden Ring for example, or a reviewer that tells these people to just stay away?
      Edit: Reviews are not sober evaluations of quality. In fact I have played many games that are well made and polished. But I just don't like them.

    Game journalists are terrible because they have ZERO passion for the hobby and never wanted to be game journalists in the first place. It's the same for developers that keep making "cinematic" games with terrible gameplay and walking simulators, failed movie directors that landed in the gaming industry because nobody from the "mature" old media would hire them; those guys are aspiring journalists that failed into the position they are in currently. That's why it's all shit, it's people that see gaming as something inferior to what they wanted to work on and absolutely despise the medium as a whole. That's why they can only produce crappy review and terrible walking simulators.
    And since they're both wheat flour from the same bag (Brazilian saying), of course they would be on bed with each other behind the scenes, which is why we get journalists giving massively positive coverage to the worst titles ever and terrible coverage to the games gamers are actually in love with (GamerGate, anyone?)!

First they call the game button-mashy, claiming just hitting the attack button causes the character to do all the flashy moves on their own, which anyone with even passing knowledge of the series instantly knows they're playing on Automatic mode.
    Then even better, they said the game's music is very undertoned and barely even there, when the game in fact has a dynamic music system that makes the songs louder and more bombastic based on your combo score, launching into the song's chorus hitting the S rank. So they couldn't even hit good combo scores when playing on easy with automatic combos enabled.

    What a lot of players who criticized the game failed to get down was the vast freedom of movement and their inability to take advantage of it making them easy targets for players who could whilst engaging in combat. Since the majority of journos and independent critics were raised up with the classic 2D movement from doom to the COD games that cemented the FPS genre the liberation of movement liberated the skill of great players closely competed by good players in COD like movement style of games and allowed the great players to dunk on the good players, and that’s what the even the better jurnos and independent reviewers were, good but not great.
    Titanfall failed because it rewarded the great players that could think and breathe simultaneously and neglected those that couldn’t which ensued the bitch fest surrounding its existence and tainted the sequels release leading to the dog shit lobotomy of an “evolution” that respawn created in Apex

      I honestly don't get why more reviewers don't do this, it's like the perfect review system.
      I think in like the '90s there was a show where the two hosts were film critics with very different tastes in movies, so you could get a pretty good idea of how much a movie would appeal to your own taste based on their reviews of it.

Just because a reviewer says a game its good, that doesnt mean that you will like it, but if you like shooters, and a shooter specialist says "this is good" there is a higher chance you are gonna enjoy it as well, and not get scammed out of your money.

Gene Park at Washington Post, he beat Vaati vidya at getting out a comprehensive lore guide to Elden ring, platinum Ed the souls games and ghosts of Tsushima, and the guy in the famous Stadia lag gif where he taps the button and the character jumps several seconds later 5:27 it was for about 50% of its lifespan. Not consecutive 50% but it’s just so bad right now just play halo. 15:05 I defend this practice because it was hilarious following Gene when Cyberpunk was coming out years back. His article on it beat election stories on the Washington Post for viewership

    Luckily, i live in a country with VERY good customer security, and basicly any physical product you buy has a 14-30 day return policy for a full refund, as long as you keep the receipt... So as long as i buy physical copies for my PS5 and Switch, there's no danger for me to not wait for reviews, and i have full freedom to try it out and form my own opinion, and if i hate it, i can return it that same week for a full refund, no questions asked!

    25:40 in the reviewer’s defense, that bowling thing moves the character forward before activating, so he can’t just “stand on the panel and hit the thing.”
    So what he should have been doing is stand off the platform, then start the bowling move so that it launches while on the button. So my problem with that “puzzle” when I played it was that I can’t aim, a consistent problem across the board for me.

    Great video, except for one small part. Titanfall 2 was bad to you? I understand no game is perfect but i mean, it was so impactful that other shooter games that came out after it like COD Infinite Warfare and Halo Infinite (wow they both have infinite in the name) took the double jump, wall jump and wall running mechanic from it. The story was top tier and remains as one of my favourite game stories to this day. So what makes Titanfall 2 a bad game to you?

    • @ExpertContrarian
      @ExpertContrarian 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It wasn’t that impactful. It’s why it didn’t get a sequel. Those other games that added those mechanics were not very popular either. Finally, that was not even close to the first game to have those mechanics. The campaign is extremely short and extremely overhyped.

    • @Layne_____
      @Layne_____ 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I agree with you. People who deny the impact titanfall had on gaming are just flat wrong. No other fps was able to even come close to copying the gameplay of Titanfall and that's why the other fps games failed. There also hasnt been a single fps with a decent campaign mode since Titanfall 2. Not to mention the titanfall universe was one of the best concepts for a war fps imo. I'm still upset that they turned titanfall 3 into APEX. Titanfall 2 was slept on because of EA
