@@JorgeGarcia-zm4hs id say go either way, both work good and keep all the same line of tools so your batteries can fit all your tools. But if you're asking for the best of the two; Makita is the answer.

I bought the kit with the Recipcrocating Saw for $150 from the clearance section at the only HD in Wyoming. Perfect balance between weight and size and for the $150 price point, I stand by them. I can also understand why the market determined the original pricing of $299 was a bit high. My 6 year old can hold the drill which I can't say for the m12 or the m18 platform. The upside is that they are brushless so that certainly helps the longevity of the product.

I honestly as a drywall & painter love my sub compact set, going on like 2 years use almost every day. I know I'm not supposed to but I usually just grab my sub drill to mix full buckets of mud instead of grabbing the chord, you just gotta start it out on 1 then you can go to 2. The impact shut down on me 1 time so far while screwing into some 1950 ceiling joists, it couldn't handle 3" wood screws, cooled down & came right back to life just can't handle that but that's the only job I've seen it overliad on so far. Makita feels the best to me for the price point, I have no reason to even try anything else

It drives me nuts tool companies give you those soft coolers to carry your drills, then they bang around in there and it looks like you're carrying a purse. In any tool kit you should get a small plastic case for each tool that can also fit the charger and a battery. maybe even make the cases stackable and inter-lock. for what you pay, that's how it should be.

For the impact I dont like how long the makita is compared to the milwaukee. The m12 fuel impact is my favorite impact I've ever used. The CXT Brushless are smaller than the LXT sub-compact. When I was upgrading my Bosch 12v stuff to EC brushless I contemplated getting the CXT, but to get the 2 tool combo in a Makpac would have meant paying a premium in kiwi dollars and then paying importing it to the United States...

I bought the kit to start a new job and it's been indestructible. I have dropped the impact from over 8 feet high countless times and it just keeps on going.
The previous employer supplied us hilti rentals, and after a year the hilti impact broke numerous times.
The only issue is that the impact is way slower than a higher end one, and it's time to upgrade so I can keep up at installs.

There is now a charger which is compatible to both systems, the 18 V LXT and the 12 V system. It's called DC 18 RE, there are slots for both batteries on the charger. The DC 18 RC is a pure 18 V charger, and cannot charge 12 V.
But these chargers are awesome, they have a very high charging current and they were the first with air cooling. They are robust, and they are closed on the top side, which means they don't get damaged if your surprised by a rain shower, what is not the case with most chargers on market. We had already lost chargers from Bosch, from Milwaukee and from DeWalt because of water damage, but not a single one from Makita.

I've had this set for over two years now and absolutely love them, especially the driver. The auto speed position, where it starts slow and then speeds up is an awesome feature. I've installed everything from 1" drywall screws to 6" Timber Locks with ease. I bought them specifically because of their size and weight and because my old Milwaukee 14 and 18V drills gave up the ghost, which I was never happy with anyways. I would buy these again today if I needed too. btw, the bag used to be turquoise, not black.

Bought the hard case for the pair. Makita won me over with these so much that I eventually bought their cordless circular saw, hammer drill, router, planer, blower, drywall gun, drywall cutout tool, drywall router, track saw - everything works with the same batteries. 👌🏼 All started here with these little black-souled Makitas (do use Dewalt 18/15 GA cordless nailers and oscillating tool). I may have an older bag considering mines the “blue” Makita color, but the strap hooks on the bag are not great. I carry a lot more than the kit in it (bits, drivers, small square, bunch of other drill related accessories) but after about a month of picking it up and throwing it over my shoulder, the hooks bent open since they’re not solid and the strap slid off constantly. I welded it closed but some duct tape would probably do. Not a huge deal but thought I’d toss that out there

Funny enough I was talking with the guys the other day. That makita was under rated. I have a 10 inch miter saw I love. But my big Dewalt 12 inch combine miter is better for somethings. But the drills usually have less run out. I do alot in precision work and hate run out or wobbly bits or impacts. But my point was black and yellow and red seem to be only ones folks look at. There was time their saws were only one to run. Now everything looks like a transformer and folks pick based on their first opinion. I still feel they are getting the short end of the stick. Their biggest fight is once you commit to batteries and chargers, the investment is high!

Some nice compact Drill/Impact Drivers. I wonder why Drill/Impact Drivers keep getting smaller yet, Golf Ball Drivers keep getting larger? Weird.

... wen I needed a compact line I chose Milwaukee.
The new M12 Brussels line is spectacular.
I chose for my line of work M12FPDXKIT-602X M12 FUEL 6-IN-1 PERCUSSION DRILL
and that combi drill is everything you need for second fix .
To bad I could not record the performance because I work in hospitals and I are allowed filmmakers.

The zippers suck. Worked with these for 2 years straight and if you keep your tool bags near the work area instead of a separate spot to keep tools away from saw dust you’ll have the zippers jam with sawdust

I want to see a 3 inch screw test with that weak drill. I used to love Makita but I feel like they haven’t done very well over the past several years compared to the competition. Every time I look at a Makita tool it always seems to be lacking something.

Hey just found your channel. What power tool brand do you use most on the job?
My family has never been a "fanboy" of any particular brand of tools, vehicles, etc. Makita tools have never failed us. My only complaint is that I had several Makita batteries (18v li-ion), that were not very old, fail on me.

Hey Vince. Looking to buy a drill/driver and impact set. What is your opinion on what I should buy? This Makita sup-compact set?? Or the DEWALT 20V MAX XR Cordless Drill Combo Kit, Brushless, 2-Tool (DCK283D2) with the 887 impact?
