I own both the 1290 super adventure R and the 690 Duke. The Duke is a blast and it is a great looking bike.
Why would you chose to play shitty generic music rather than let us here the dukes lovely engine. Very strange.
Are the new changes on the 690 SMCR 2016?
Is it comfy on long journey?
How does it compare to the 2012-2015 model? The engine has been reworked, is it much better than the old one?
William Riker this bike isn't for cruising... It's best suited to be agile in the city. I can only last an hour before I need to take a break. The seat is hard after a while And there is a lot of wind blast. The handlebars vibrate your hand if you don't have good gloves on.
I find it really comfy on long trips. 200km and then coffee. If you stay away from motorways, that is. Going 110-120km/h is fine.
Looks like KTM have discontinued the 690 Duke R for 2018 MY :-( Can't find it on their website, also 690 Enduro gone.
It's being replaced with the 790
@@onegraham which was replaced by the 890. Seems KTM does their customers wrong. Selling bikes and then discontinuing them, with parts going to be harder to find in the coming years.

It's a Cracking good looking bike. The numbers don't sound too bad either.
why music ?
I regret getting a 690 Duke a bit. It's an ok bike (my first), but the main problem is that single cylinder engine. Don't get me wrong, it's probably the best of its type: The vibration is low, and plenty of power at 5000+ rpm. BUT as you said, it's terrible at low rpm. Another thing for me is the sound. It's inescapable, it sounds like a dirt bike, especially if (like you said) you don't feel like downshifting before accelerating when you're a bit low on rpm. That takes away a lot of the quality feel about this bike (except the terrible turn signal button). It's a matter of preference of course, but this is going to be my last single cylinder non-dirt bike. An interesting machine nonetheless.
Yes for a road machine you at least want a twin
I wrecked one of them in July, so KTM and me will not be friends, even though i am Austrian :P

+EU Bike Dude yeah, they are like 5% of journalists who actually pronounce it right. other 95% can't seem to understand it after all that time..
+SineOccasu when you hear it so often it actually becomes irritating. you are exaggerating, that's not what i meant at all. it doesn't have to do anything with this particular bike or review - which is actually good, it's just a reflex i've developed over the years. it's like someone is mispronouncing your name, it would drive you mad as well. and you would think that if your job actually is reviewing bikes you would get all the company names from your field of interest right..

Someone tried to justify some of the pronunciations to me once by saying "this is the English pronunciation".
While we are on a rant, why do people in the UK insist on saying they are shipping to "Eire" instead of Ireland, they don't say "shipping to Deutschland" they say Germany.

The first thing he says is "this is the 3rd generation of the Duke". That's Sooo incorrect. This is the 5th generation. The 3rd gen is the 2008-2011. Getchyo facts straight!!

1990 exactly what I was just thinking. They should have a pop up for people in other countries who click on this video that says, sorry only for audiences in the UK or something. My English I want to claim is pretty good but I was struggling with this one.
