- Short vid of me riding the KTM 690 Duke R.
This is my personal opinion, so don't get offended if you don't agree with the points below.
Good points:
The twin spark engine is very smooth with plenty of power. Good brakes from Brembo even with the ABS off and WP suspension soaks up the bumps really well. The handling is quick and precise for a little bike. Feels like riding a 125 again although with a bigger engine in the frame. Fuel range is fantastic, very economical for a big single. Looks like a stunt bike as well.
Bad Points:
I could feel vibrations through the bars but overtime I think the rider would get use to it. The riding position is very compact and was too cramped for me and I'm not that tall neither (5'10). ABS, just don't like it, thank god it was disabled. Even though it looks like a stunt bike, it struggled to wheelie. On a flat straight road, I just couldn't clutch it up in 3rd, gearing was way too tall for it, maybe -1 on the front sprocket and 2-3 on the back it would be a little hooligan machine.
In summary its a fun bike to ride, nimble in the twisties and keeps up with the big bikes. Be ideal for commuting and is a great starter bike for new riders, but for the experienced rider, I wouldn't recommend it.

I'm 5"10 as well and it is true the seat is somewhat cramped, the optional Ergo seat handily resolves the issue. I have been riding for 40+ years ( yes I'm that old). An 08 VFR, a 10 Kaw concours 14 and an Mz Skorpion share the garage with my new 690 Duke. I have to say that if you are an experienced rider like me, the Duke is an utter blast to ride. It is one of those rare machines that suits the novice, as well as the experienced rider.
I'm 6ft 5 and find mine quite comfy. It's got the power parts seat on it though not sure if that makes a difference
bought mine almost three months ago, man its awesome! went over 600kilometers, now its the living room till march 2015 :D

I was riding down that road today, at first I thought it looked kinda familiar somehow, then realised where it is, took me a few minutes lol!

I took a 790 and loved it, but he only had the demo in at the time, it would have been extremely good fun on that road and then the back road to Bulbeck/Lancaster.

I enjoyed your review, but I would say "this bike is for experienced riders", I've been riding on the road for 12 years and about 25 years total riding bikes, I've had my KTM 690 Duke R for almost 6 months and I love it, I've gone 2 teeth up on the rear and it'll wheel stand in 3rd under power (without clutching it), I absolutely love that it's so light and that is one of the biggest reasons I bought it, and the seating position is great in my opinion (I'm short at just 5ft, also the rear wheel will spin up and slide around on corners very quickly and easily because it is such a torquey engine (definitely not a good point for beginners), I am enjoying this bike so much and if you love twists over straight (boring roads), GET ONE!!!
I'm making a choice between this one and the 1050 adventure. I want a bike I can travel with but also use for the city. And maybe a couple of times to the track. My question is: how much in need for a windshield you feel the bike is for travelling? I used to have a BMW f650gs 2007. And even after I bought the taller windscreen I felt the wind was kinda annoying after an hot or so doing 90-100mph.
What's your opinion on the subject?

dinoarellano the 690 Duke isn't great for touring, I don't have a screen on mine and most I've ridden is 1hr on the highway (120km/h), the 1050 will be great for touring, the 690 duke is great for being a hoon on.

I am currently riding my first bike, duke 390 (8000+ miles done) and I started thinking about buying something bigger. I mostly ride in the city with weekend back-road blasting and thought that 690r is the natural progression. Would you recommend it for me ? Or should I buy daytona 675 (which is my current wet dream)
What version windscreen is mounted and where can I see pictures of it from the front?

Mate I had the 690 duke. Great bike for 21 miles then it’s break down! Every f in time. Fuel pump issue. 21 miles and it had to cool down. Ffs. Ktm uk had for six weeks said fixed. 21 miles later yep broke down - again. Trade them in

How many miles to a tank? These new twin spark engines are good, 125 fuel economy basically from a bike with 7 times the power.
Must have done 220 miles before filling up, and the fuel light never came on
I go for 270-300 km on a full fuel tank. I live in Austria, we got some serious mountains, so this means a lot of full-throttle sections.

nice review, good vid, and I thought I recognised my home county. And I don't want to sound like a 'god forbid', car driver, " ooh, irresponsible motorcyclists blah blah.." but, buddy, North Yorkshire!! Ever seen a tractor pulling a trailer out of a field onto the road, at those speeds and an oncoming vehicle you're Heinz bigsoup!! just saying like. but still 'kin awesome bike. Want one.

What kind of exhaust did it have? Full akrapovic system, just a slipon or decat pipe? also was the db killer removed? caus it sound really good compared to other videos..

I didn't like the screen in terms of looks, spoilt the front end to be honest, but it does help at speed.
