  • @creamydonk
    @creamydonk 4 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    I bought a 790 little over a year ago and though it was fun in small doses.. it was awful for commuting, long rides, and just everyday use. It couldn't hold a slow speed without freaking out, you had to slip the clutch everywhere in traffic. It shook like a leaf at high speeds, and the riding position had you holding on like a windsock. I really wanted to love it but it was a chore to ride and after a few months the headgasket started leaking oil.. So now I own the street triple. Little less torque which is a bit sad, but yeah almost no complaints in comparison.
    Hear the 890 is a lot better though.

      Good info thanks. I'm looking for a semi-permanent old-man naked bike for my retirement. The 790/890 are cool looking but I don't need more maintenance. I think I'll just get a CB650R so I can just ride it forever without worrying about anything but oil and tires and valve adjustments. That is, if anyone ever gets any in stock again.

      @creamydonk ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CarpaccioSalad To be fair, it was a very fun bike when you just wanted something that feels like a big supermoto, though an MT09 can do that at less cost. It would also be a great bike if you live near twisty roads and didn't have to spend highway time to get there. But the negatives definitely stick out if you ride it daily, in commutes. And and I'm contractually obligated as a triumph owner to say I still married to my striple btw. It's the best.

    I think the 890 duke is better than the 790 in almost every way. The suspension, brakes, handling and engine is far superior. There should be a larger price gap between the two, right now it's only a $1,000 difference. At that point, most people will go for the 890. Also, are you sure the 890 weighs 375 lbs WET? I was hesitating about buying the 890 Duke because all the stories about fiability failures of KTM. But the dealer offered me a very good price and I pulled the trigger. First 5.000km and I'm in love with this bike, is so light, agile and stable that you can use with confidence all the explosive power and torque that this brillant motor has. After first service I bought the tech pack that bring track mode and quickshifter+, the same electronics of the R model, and the bike becomes a beast. It always put a big smile on my face!

      I'm using 2019 MT-07 and planning to upgrade it to Duke 890 nowadays. I'm a daily rider from home to work in busy city traffic (Istanbul) and wondering if 890 is overkill for my needings.

    • @matvill4405
      @matvill4405 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cemozcan3630 for this kind of use the standard model or the GP (less sporty and more confortable position) are more suited than the R model. The lightness and agilty of the bike makes it really easy to go througth traffic, but it’s a torque/powerful motor that always want to jump to high rpm. It feels better in a twisty road or in a empty street that in heavy traffic. I use to ride my brother's Teneré 700 (same motor as MT-07), the difference in power and torque is noticiable, but the Duke 890 in rain mode (less powerful and more smooth response) feels near to the Yamaha. I also use the bike to commute but in 30km of mountain twisty roads and just a few kms of urban traffic, the 890 Duke makes it easy.

But I only use like maybe 70% of it's full potential at best, you're totally better off getting an 890R for street use, unless you're running track days. I had the 390 duke, enjoyed it until about 550 miles into it the oil light turned on while riding. I shut it off immediatly and trailered it in to the dealer. It turns out the oil pick up screans were plugged with metal shavings. Two months later they finished rebuilding the motor just in time for winter. I put 600 miles on it in the snow covered roads of colorado. At that seconed first service it had the same problem. They changed the oil and said put a thousand miles on and change it again to see what it does. I road it like i stole it for a thousand miles and it did the same thing but less metal. I traded for the 790 straight away and have been very happy since. I think if the 390 had the power of a crf 450 it would be great

And it was a left side kick only. No electric start. Was able to auction the P.O.S. off in Dallas. Swore off the brand. Until I rode a superduke 990 in 2008 at cresson trackday. Wow, there's some wrong info in this video. The 790 and 890 are around 400 lbs wet, not 383 and 375, the weight difference between the two comes from the fact that the 890 doesn't have pillion pegs or passenger seat installed when you buy it (but it does come with it). The 890 has 119 hp with 73 ft lbs, not a huge difference but you stated 79 ft lbs. Also the 890 (and 790) have cable clutches, not hydraulic.

      Yes and no. Husky was actually the one to come up with the better counterbalanced LC4 engine which KTM then adopted from them. This is seen from the fact that the 2017 701 already had the smoother engine, but took KTM until 2019 to get it. Husky is also the only one of the two offering the "LR" version of the 690/701 enduro. As of this year KTM did give the Husky the quick shifter for their 701. So it really goes both ways.
