I just watched the whole video and really liked it. Thanks for the mention!
For me, Tails of the Sun was a pioneer in the survival game genre, standing out for its unique approach. Reflecting on the first time I played it, the experience was unlike any other game I had encountered at that point. The world was vast, filled with secrets waiting to be uncovered. Growing up, I spent countless hours exploring, discovering hidden places within the game, and noting them down. It's a game that reminds me of games like ARK and Minecraft today.
It's a joy to be reminded of such a nostalgic game, thanks.

Thx! This video was pretty Experimental too haha.
Experimental games rarely work out, but I think they're necessary to push genres. Like you said, I'm not 100% sure ARK exists without games like this.

Im unsure what to gather from your analysis here - art is subjective, but video games as an art form usually entail satisfaction from overcoming a challenge. It doesnt seem like this game is very enjoyable, just arduous. I think even a game meant to invoke misery like Spec Ops The Line can be fun in an adequate sense. Although I guess this games intent comes from the heart? The dev talking about an "anti-game" reminds me of LSD Dream Emulator, which was an equally absurd game with opaque meaning, but considerably more visually stimulating.
Regardless, this is certainly not a game I would have found had this not been recommended. Your sly humor is also charming, reminds me of my own video humor, subbed!

The game has a challenge or goal (climb to the sun by collecting tusks. But yeah, like you said and what I hope I conveyed in the vid, it is super repetitive. The initial challenge is that you're weaker than mammoths, but once you get the 2nd weapon, it's ridiculously easy. So all the time consuming pivots to traveling, which paired with the constant frame drops, is boring. The best part is when you first start and are learning and exploring.
I love spec ops! Glad you enjoyed the vid. It was meant to be a quick look at this weird game I played at a friend's house like 15 years ago, but turned into a bigger thing once I started looking into the development. I'm still not sure how to title it or sell it to people lol. But it's so interesting I needed to make it.

I really like that weird off-beat music. It's common for a lot of Japanese games, but yeah - I don't know what I'd call it. Electro-Jazz-core? Haha. I love weird games like this. I was originally going to be doing weird games as a 'theme' for my channel.

I really want to play this now, even with the problems. Haha.
