I like the product, but it's really for people if you want to keep a pair DS for a long time. Doesn't seem to be practical or economical to be doing a nitrogen purge every time you take your shoes in and out of the rotation. If you're a billionaire though, just create a temperature and atmosphere controlled sneaker vault.
On a similar topic, it'd be nice to hear why wearing old shoes every now and then helps prevent them from crumbling apart or if that's just a myth. That could be a good follow-up video.
The reason I’ve heard is that moving the cells of foam helps to squeeze out moisture. I dunno if that’s true or not, but that’s the reason I have heard.
This is a thing…have the same 2019 AJ4’s Chris does…they are still white and crispy. I wear them occasionally and not in anything but dry conditions..they stay in the box in a closet. This is the same with all my J’s..wear your shoes
@@donnytaylor1896 i keep my sneakers in the box in the closet too bro, but with a lot of silica gel packets inside the box and a few outside the box(inside the closet but mine is a closed closet) ,this is the best way to preserve them right and yeah i live in a pretty humid envi here in Sri lanka
Ohh hell naww... that's the thing I don't do especially since I live in a very humid place. Having foot infections is really annoying, i just can't stand having itchy feet for a whole day.
These are considerable for grails or bonafide expensive kicks that you plan on selling later on. But everything else, yeah, it's overkill and too expensive.
@@dannysalzer770 Thank you both for the comment. The price is about $35 for the pod (bad) and cartridge (with OG Collector). But I agree this is not for an every day shoe. Most people use the product for their grails or shoes they want to hold on to for a long time. Also, for shoes you may go weeks or months without wearing! Thanks for the support and hope that helps.
Chris this is awesome! Has anyone ever suggested you do a series for your channel called Sneaker Science? It would be just like this format from this episode breaking down all the design details for us sneaker nerds 😂
I think you missed the most important questions here : "how they accelerated/recreated the effects from age for building and testing that product? Basicaly, it's like a medical treatment for our shoes. so "what perspective do we have on this technology if it's a brand new product? "
I just keep the shoes I love most in a shoebox most of the time, I only wear them on special occasions, and when I do wear them my feet are clean af and I have on the freshest socks, along with shoe covers on the bottoms of my shoes. My oldest pair is 8 years old and they still look and smell fresh af
It's a good idea, but the cost outweighs the benefit. You sell those bags for $25 apiece and you're boomin. I just can't justify spending that for each pair I have. I'd like too.
This was actually really dope! It was awesome learning about the origins, science and overall function of the products and what the brand is about. Love the science and research behind the product. Fun stuff!
Just got my subscription.. I really take care of my shoes.. oldest shoe I have is the 2016 flu game and I want to preserve it for as long as possible, only worn them about 5 times lol.. so I’ll start with keeping these in the capsole then monthly as I get more I’ll put my next oldest shoe and so on…
I don’t know if anybody has asked this question. How long does the stuff in the cartridge hold up in bag? Do you have to change it like you would a cars oil? Appreciate the video 🤙
Chris actually asked that question but it was cut for time. We were told that once the bag is sealed it’s good to go until it’s opened again so no need to replace the “air”.
I don't think I'd buy a bag for EVERY pair...but my white Cement III's and IV's...absolutely! He lives in AZ now, because he knows shoes last longer out here. HAHAHA! Great content Chris!
@@CAPSOLESTORE they do my man. I think I'm averaging at least an extra 5-7 years...I grew up in Nike Town Portland, OR...and nothing lasted there...I WILL pick up a couple kits! Thanks man. Enjoy AZ! Phoenix area?
The big thing that sticks out for me is the presentation of the shoes. I like to see my shoes on the rack but in a bag it's inconvenient to be able to place them for viewing. The economical aspect is obviously more important especially if you have over 20 shoes. Most shoes we should be able to rebuy in the future so that would be more realistic to me. Interesting idea to seal up shoes so they last longer though.
KEEP YOUR SHOES OUT OF THE BOX IN AN OPEN AREA!!!!!! I have Polyurethane based sole shoes from 2003-2007/08, never placed them back in the box, soles still firm and wearable. Polyurethane is an open cell foam that needs oxygen. When put in an enclosed space those cells decrease in size and when taken out after a long period time with added pressure those cells overly expand which causes the softening and crumbling. Your shoes need to breathe, those plastic shoe bins are a no go also.
Damn all I can do with my current space is keep them in the box in my closet, they don’t get any sun or moisture cuz it’s pretty dry & not humid but damn :(
Hi guys, a few months ago I bought some Jordan Superfly 2 and they fell apart after 2 weeks. They were brand new and unused but they broke. Now I've seen some brand new Super Fly 5 from 2016. Would you dare to buy them?
The product is great but it seems a little lacking if you want to display your kicks. Maybe they could work on a display box/case that uses the same concept? So you can show off your kicks in a presentable way and keep that life support going.
Interesting video! Yellowing and ageing was covered, BUT for instance, how can one preserve leather from cracking? I bought an all-white all-leather Air Max and waaaay before they could age and/or get faded and yellow, the toe-box cracked real bad (where the leather folds with your toes, basically) - how can we prevent that from happening, or at least postpone or delay it as much as possible? Cheers from Bulgaria 👟
I keep my shoes in box, but within ziploc bags/gel packs. Squeezing out as much air as possible. I microwave gel packs every couple months for moisture removal.
I'm not sure if this was discussed in the video because I skimmed through it, but I am wondering how long it takes for shoes to break down and crumble.
@@RampagingChipmunk yeah I would agree. Also depends on where you live and where the shoes were made. During covid a lot of shoes got stuck out at sea and ended up molding and/or getting a lot of exposure to moisture. So that can play a huge part as well!
So what are some more practical techniques besides this product? Honestly the eventual disintegration of shoes is something that kinda makes me reconsider collecting them at all. I don’t mind yellowing, but disintegration is another thing altogether. I have mine in a combination of the drop front plastic boxes and some regular shoe racks in my closet. It’s got an air vent in it and a door so there is circulation and it is protected from sunlight so that’s something.
I will have to check their website. My use case is i have about 20 shoes in rotation and would need to use a cartridge every day. Seems like 20 bags and 365 cartridges would be needed.
I am confused. How does nike think that they should charge 150 for the Freak 6, which is the same price as the KD17? It has fraction of the tech. I don’t understand.
Yeah, I don’t know if I should throw away all the boxes away because I’m running out of space and put my shoes in drop front containers & there is little bugs crawling on my shoeboxes. I don’t know if they’re dust, mites or cardboard mites someone help?
