I work at an Under Armour and although I agree it's a bit of a high price tag, we've been selling out of every colorway of the Currys like crazy, and this is an LA store. Numbers wise, they do great in store. And as far as Flow's durability goes, it was originally made for road running so it's more durable than one would think despite the appearance of its wear and tear.
I could be wrong but the motions in running and basketball are quite different though, one is with constant single direction and the other involves a lot of sudden stops and turns. Maybe that's why the outsole isn't as durable when it's comes to basketball?
@@saiken811 you're absolutely right for the most part! The only thing I'd say is unlike rubber outsoles that are only so thick that once they grind away, they're gone, Flow is a single piece silicone foam, so once that "tread" wears away, it's still the same tacky material. Of course they might not function the same on the hardwood, but if you wanted to use them outdoors, they still grip like crazy because cement doesn't rely on tread as much.. the foam is still gonna dig into the ground (I can tell you that first hand from my balded UA Futr Xs) But yeah as far as just appearance goes, they're gonna look destroyed so most people probably won't be into that especially they're expensive Currys
Thank you so much for your comment it’s perspectives like this that really give us some context. If you are at liberty to say, how many units would “selling out” be? Ballpark figure.
I dont think there is nothing wrong with changing the tech, I think thats great actually. The price is high, but imo the biggest problem is Under Armour, they are overall an awful looking brand, with terrible marketing. Nike, apple etc are marketing geniuses, to the point that they barely have to do ads anymore.
They should’ve done better with the design. I mean they’re good looking but not like the kobes. Also the price was pretty steep for the majority of the consumers. I think thats where they lacking if terms of sales
@@JAHRONMON Objectively.. the curry line is the worst signature line in basketball history when it comes to aesthetics! The curry 1s were promising. If i could buy the 1s in Blackout, i would right away but the rest is just thrash in terms of design. From the 3s to the latest release, they basically look like bulky socks with soles. Hideous! Just have a look at the curry 7s π day. They've been running with the same silhouette since the curry 3s with minor iterations. And if it was only with the curry line but it was the same with Cam Newton's and The Rock's signature line. Cam's CN1 was pretty dope and the rock's deltas were great but then, the design just got worse with each release. Chinese Brands have definitely gotten better and i'd rather buy a pair of Li-Ning, Peak or Anta instead of a UA Curry. Take a look at Peak's webstore and you'll see that, while ripping off UA's Curry line, Peak have managed to design a better looking Curry Signature* than Under Armour.
@@JAHRONMON I think yeezy really does look awful coz they look like shoe rugs or something. Tho maybe it's just me because I like my shoes simple like Stan Smith, Chuck Taylor and Airforce
Had. A pair of curry. 2. They were. Purple and green with. A floral pattern or something I liked them alot wore them alot got one sprained ankle in them falling off a. Greyhound bus in atlanta the. Curry 7 was pretty good have a pair of them now
The only thing making the Under Armor name relevant in the Basketball space is the “ Steph Curry “ name…!!!! Without it NOBODY buys any of those things ever…!!!!💯
They were on a great trajectory coming off the 2s but started to miss the mark performance wise with the 3-5 which might've turned people off to line. They started to get better after the 6. My biggest problem is the way they released them. Especially the 4s. And then after that they had released two shoes in one year. Releases are coming too much too fast nowadays.
Ive played in a lot of shoes and i personally love how the currys feel. The traction and court feel are top tier. I hate that the price is so high though and their marketing frankly sucks!!
feel you on this!! the pricing should be geared towards kids so that it can compete with the shoes at $120-130 price range. also something i noticed with the Currys: for my personal preference with Low shoes, i like when the collar and tongue of the shoe lock my feet in. like Kobes 5-11, Puma Clyde Pros, most PGs, Dame 5s. for some reason i always have a little too much ankle room in the currys i’ve tried (curry 6, 8, and 9). maybe it’s to give room for curry’s ankle braces but not sure! could just be me tho!
I will give the Curry line credit for having two budget models, but even the signature shoe doesn't warrant the $160 price tag. Undercut the competition. Kyries top out at $130. That's what UA should aim for.
@@rcole718 if you think stephs shoes dont warrant the $160 tag then you should think that same thing for KDs being $150. They're in the same tier of quality. own kd 12,13, and 15 and curry 8-10
Tbh, I don’t mind the price for the curry 8/9, it’s performance wise ok. The traction is the best of all time, the cushion and support are solid. And the Curry 4 FloTro for 140$ is the best shoe right now, the performance, the looks for that price is solid.
I think you were spot on with the price issue. Get consumers in the shoe at $100-120 and make them fall for the brand. My youngest son’s favorite player used to be steph and that was his first signature shoe about 5 years ago. We had less than a great experience and have only bought Nike for both boys since. When I splurged on jordan 36’s, the thought was it’s Jordan brand/Nike and has great reviews. Saw that curry 8/9’s had great reviews but when I saw $160 for ua it stopped me dead in my tracks. It’s not even a brand that my kids want so the price would have to be right to make that leap. Especially when I know kds and lebrons will be atleast half price at some point. (Lebron 19 lows were just $80 plus 20% off if you can deal with the worst colors).
The thing is the flow traction is so good and his shoes feel so good on court they sell out crazy quick. I tried to get curry 4 flotros a while back and they sold out too quick. Same goes for the 8s and 9s. People love the shoes. All I wanna buy anymore for game shoes are Currys bc ik the traction is reliable and solid.
Yeah, deff if Curry 8s were a little bit cheaper I woulda bought them, instead I went for Kyrie 7 instead, then KD 14s and now Harden Vol.6 Imagine if Nike wasn't dumb to let him go, or Adidas gave him a good offer
Have the same sentiments with the Curry brand. Durability should always factor the pricing, the Curry 8 and 9 can lose consumers because of the flow tech 's lackluster durability. Great overall performer but not everyone can afford the 8s or 9s at a consistent basis. Tbh, I'm so scared to use my pair because I wanna preserve the sneaker. 😅 Seeing the leaks of the Curry 10s, and Flowtro 1s , I hope it doesn't lead to what happened with Adidas - using boost over and over again without tweaks.
At first I was a little hesitant on your hot take but as I kept watching, it all made sense. I have the Curry 8 and they are probably the best basketball shoes I've ever worn (besides Kobes.) But you are absolutely right about the price. The only reason why I bought the Curry 8 was because I had a $50 gift card for UA. If not for the gift card, I probably would've never got to experience this great shoe.
Curry top 5 all time bro, his shoes (if good performers) should be up there with Jordan, Bron, and Kobe. Bron shoes are terrible TBH, so his shoes should be roasted for looks and performance.
Curry’s line is top 5? Hell I can name at least 7 signature lines that perform better and look better than Curry’s off the top of my head. Kyrie,KD,LeBron(No his shoes aren’t mega heavy… maybe a little bulky at most but that whole LeBron shoes are heavy thing hasn’t been a thing since like the LeBron 8) Kobe,Jordan,Penny,PG,Harden,Rose, LaMelo. Dame…Wade…. Hell to be honest Curry’s line reminds me of CP3’s. But CP3 actually had a few bangers. Curry had what… the 4… they looked good but felt like Jordan 1’s with no grip. He maybe has a better line than Westbrook… but that isn’t saying much.
@@OldmanTim_ I'm talking player, not sneakers. I haven't been able to ball since the Curry 4 due to a hamstring tear, so I can't say anything on performance anymore.
@@flipninja55 No doubt He’s an all time great and saying he’s top 5 ever is fair. But it’s just mega disappointing to see his shoes and go… “New Curry’s…. 🤷🏾♂️”
@@OldmanTim_ cmon man, you know lebrons shoes are still basically combat boots. The soldier 9s, 10s etc were both 14oz ea, close to a pound ea. Heck, the lebron 18s were 15.7 per and the 17s were over 16oz, thats a boot not a sneaker..
Today in New York City kids are mostly wearing Kyrie, KD and LaMelo ball shoes . And Curry shoes is straight ugly and Puma LaMelo shoes actually look good and have very different color ways that are nice.
I find the flow is really bad on indoor courts that are not super clean. My curry hovr splash are better in that respect. On clean courts sure flow is great but not many courts are clean
This is so true! especially about Curry pricing! I really would like to try rocking these shoes, but yeah they're quite expensive! I hope Undermour could have watched this already and make price adjustments.
Curry 2 is up there in GOAT performing shoes, but my go to brand is always Adidas. With the introduction of Lightstrike, Boost shoes got a bit cheaper. Also, there only one wrong you got in this video and that is if you want to enjoy Zoom, you can get it from Kyries. Nope. Kyries are bricks.
I think the takes on the Curry 8s and Curry 9s is completely off. The issue with the Curry 9s isn't the price, it's the availability. It's hard to find Curry 9s at Footlocker or finish line at physical stores. Footlocker and other stores didn't get Curry 9s on its website until the end of the NBA season.
The Gold Rings Curry 2s and Icon Custom Curry 1s are my faves and only purchases. I hope UA can develop better for the next time around. Nike fumbled the bag with SC#30.
Under armour has to realize this isn't the 90's 2000's when a announcement or release date could build up for months and keep the hype. People now move on faster and they want things faster.
Curry 6 > All of the other Curry shoes. My experience with the Curry 6s is amazing. The best traction, responsive, dope colors ways and designs, perfeormance
See I dont see the point of buying the Curry 9s and 10s because theyre the same as the 8s with a different upper so I rather buy a 2 year old shoe that'll be way cheaper that'll give me the same performance
I been using the curry 8. Flow tech is not quite there, traction is the only positive aspect. The fit is uncomfortable and using double socks have improved a little bit. Decent shoe but lightyear from KD, Jordan's or lebrons.
I have owned the 2, 2.5, 3zero, 4, 8 and I have liked all of them. I think the price is fine. It's not 180 or 225 like jordans and lebrons so it's good, it could be 120-150 and it would be even better but, it's good. I loved the 2 and the 8. I really liked the 2.5, 3, 4. That being said, I'll keep buying Currys as long as they come out with high tops because I don't like low tops for myself.
Jahron this is straight facts, I've been wanted the black curry 8’s and I even wanted a pair of 9’s. However my mind sees that prove tag and literally goes, ‘ill buy them in 3 years when the price is cut in half’. This is coming from a curry and warriors fan, who really appreciates his greatness as a basketball player. Yet despite actually thinking the curry 9’s would fit my play style better and also the curry 6’s being my second favourite shoe of all time, I'm still hooping indoor and out in Nikes. They do need to fix up the pricing major.
Aren't all Basketball shoes expensive? I looked at all bball shoes like that, wait 2 years more and then buy or just use your sports shoes and borrow them if needed urgently.
So I guess you think all signature shoes should be dirt cheap. 160 is actually on the cheaper end of the signature spectrum. He is and has been a top 3 player in the NBA for several years, he has earned the 160 price tag. Stop being cheap.
played in both curry 8 and curry 9 and they was incredible, best traction you can get, you pay a lot because of the insanly high quality which is absolutely worth it
Great recap on the curry’s. My biggest take away was the fact they continue to change the feel of the shoe. That’s just dumb, that means every year you have no idea how it’s going to feel and how it’s going to work for you. Great recap!!
First time on your channel. Let me know where I can order the brim you are wearing. I have been trying for so long to get a pair of the Purple Highs; SC is wearing them on the screen behind you. I realize I'm just another pebble in the rock quarry, but I think SC30 could make a call. I'm buying, not looking for any freebies. Appreciate all, and glad I found your channel.
UA missed their mark from about 7 years ago, when Steph was changing the game and making a name for himself. Shame how UA didn't capitalize on it with a consistent main line and possibly a budget model line. Not to mention I'd steer clear from UA on other products since it seems overpriced too. Horrible marketing and pricing.
@@JAHRONMON in hindsight, I would never sign with UA for shoes. I see what ANTA has offered Klay I see what Li-Ning has offered Wade I see what Peak has offered Lou Williams Puma`s made some certified bad boys and my main rotation involves a pair of And1s right now so UA is right at the bottom end of my priorities for shoes, much less bball stuff. Admittedly Curry`s sell, but just barely.
From what I heard; the Curry budget shoes are better and obviously cheaper, the Curry splash specifically. I feel the orange colourway has a different material for the sole and I feel more traction.
Interesting poiints, but I disagree. By putting the Curry in the Jordan price range is letting people know UA sees Steph Curry as valuable as Lebron and Jordan. A lower price point does not entice people to buy a shoe that does not look good. People are still buying Jordans years later because the design visuals were and still are fire. If the Curry line had the visuals of the Curry 4, and the performance of the Flow Tech shoes, we wouldn't be having the conversation. So it is a design (meaning visual) problem that they are having, IMO. Peace.
Steph and his shoes just don't have the pull needed to sell shoes that Jordan or LeBron have. A lower price would absolutely entice people to buy a shoe if it's a great performer.
His shoes never looked good... Now performance-wise they could be good performance-wise but how many people actually play basketball regularly vs people who just wear sneakers for fashion..the fashion outweighs the basketball players..Nike has two pools of ppl(fashion, ballers) buying their shoes..ppl only buying curry's to ball in
It probably doesn't help that it's Under Armour that makes them. I mean let's be honest ....UA has really fallen. Not only has their stock price plummeted from $100 to $7 a share....but their sales are stagnant overall and the brand has the whiff of "not cool" about them. Not to mention the controversies the company had. I can't see how any of that helps Curry as a brand. It's hard to not think that he would be doing much better with another brand handling his signature brand.
All i know is - for years in the Bay Area, i know a lot of hoopers stigma around his shoes was - “if you see a guy wearing curry’s he probably can’t hoop.” I’m not sure how this came to be but guys like didn’t wanna associate with his shoes, might have been because it brought out a lot of casual fans and people learning basketball to basketball courts during curry’s 2 MVP years. With covid basically closing off hoops for a few years - now coming back to the courts you don’t see guys wearing curry’s - probably cuz the casuals left, but more than that - with a price point that high it’s hard to justify buying it if you are just starting out. Like you said too - once you got comfortable with a style of tech in the shoe, they made changes almost every other year to where it almost feels like Steph is becoming the test dummy for all the tech ideas they are coming up with. I’m more happy to find something that if something fits right - i just wish i could stay wearing it forever.
Why it failed is because it doesn't look good or unique, the reason why Jordans worked mainly the 1-14 isn't just bc MJ played in them but because they were really unique & recognizable that other shoes can't match, these modern day basketball shoes looks like those cheap mesh and foam sole shoes u find for low prices at an outlet, for a shoe that's meant to be Under Armour's biggest/most important shoe it just doesn't work especially for it's price tag, why would u pay so much for a shoe that doesn't look unique or popular when u can get a Nike Jordan for around the same price maybe even cheaper
Hot take! But I agree to this. For context, I put under Armour as one of the best for performance basketball shoes (during the era of the anatomix spawn and clutch fit drive- these were my go to shoes and sitting on third were kobe 9’s and Jordan xx8) and I was hyped for the Curry’s. The only time I really considered buying curry’s were curry 1 and 2- however around where I’m from these were not accessible. The last time would also be the curry 4, but just couldn’t due to price. Most of the basketball shoes I buy are always way below retail, and very rarely I buy retail price. So that 160 is a no go for me. 40 Bucks and I’ll try the new currys. Sorry too broke but with this economy, you had to be very frugal
Under Armour is too plain looking and I agree with the moderator of this video that Under Armour is not concern with off court appeal. Under Armour needs to step it up big time with design appeal for the off court customer!!!
From reviews I've seen, the Pumas are good performing sneakers, like ranked among top 10 by many. I'm not surprised to see more of them. Seen alot of the new balance Two Wxys also
Just bought the 3z5 curry's. I don't play with them, but as a walk around shoe....man are they comfortable and look fashionable too. I don't even care about his "top tier" shoes.
I’m guessing that the higher price may allow for a greater profit margin for the retailers. Sneaker brands are really fighting for shelf space. Nike is King, Adidas command more shelf space now thanks to Ye so at this point Under Armor really has to give retailers a good reason to give them space vs their competition. A higher profit for the retailer might be their in.
Amazing video, thanks so much for the thorough review. I'm from oakland, I wanted some curry's just cuz it's steph man. But ya, I seen the 150+ price tag and was like what the heck? Did more research and was like nah. That's a price for a well established shoe, not some experimental, "I wonder how under armor shoes are" type purchase
Shoe companies need to realize that there has to be a balance between looks and performance. Nike mastered it. I don't know why other companies seem to not be able to follow.
@@JAHRONMON Availability is also a factor. I honestly haven't seen the main Curry shoe in stores since the 3. His shoes doesn't offer enough style or tech to warrant a $160 price tag as you mentioned. I think the UA basketball is lost. Their other signature hooper went a whole season without a follow-up to his first shoe.
Curry shoes dont fail. People are just wired by nike that everything else is bad. Nike went against curry when they felt threatened by him in 2016 and then made kd say his kicks werent cool after they won in 2017. In the same vein now kds and kyries kicks are underselling because people dont view them as winners. The truth is out. Kd is a bus rider.. he never led any team and nobody likes to associate with losers. Curry sells more than all those athletes in asia where the real population is.. So tell your bosses at nike that u failed
The Curry’s are a little uncomfortable for my feet but I get them at a good price. I just got my shoes for $69 at the under armour store in Chicago and also got another pair for $84. His shoes are way cheaper than Lebrons shoes.
I always wanted to buy myself a pair of Curry but unfortunately they don't fit my criteria despite having good traction, super light (compare to most shoes) and decent low profile cushion. Shoes that ticked all boxes for me (based on my playstyle and needs) till date are: -Nike Kobe 8/9 elite -Kyrie 3 if I need a trusted traction -Adidas Dame 2/4/5 -Adidas D Rose 3/3.5 -Under Armour Clutchfit Drive So far I have yet to find a shoe that could give me this same feeling like the one I listed.
Curry 8 and 9 are kinda awesome, def moving in the right direction hope they keep this up. With that said def indoor shoes, with the all foam outsole it'll get destroyed super fast outdoors.
I enjoyed this video a lot. It is interesting how the price hikes can really cause some issues. I believe they sell well at stores though, but that's usually the case. Online however idk. Either way, enjoyed hearing you talk about this. I feel in a similar way to how they made the Rose line $160 after being $110 for the 3s and keep that price until the Rose 7.
The main problem with the curry 9s and 10s is more on the supply side in my opinion. The only reason I’ve been able to get a pair is because I order it on the app right when a color way I like drops.
I know there are as many opinions as there are players but for me the 4 and the 4 flotro are two of the top 5 shoes I've ever played in along with the 2016 flyknit hyperdunk, nike air ballistic force dream team, and the reebok answer 4.
Hefty L take by him on the 4s but I don't trust his opinion on shoe performance after hearing the 3s were one of his favorites when they came out. The 3s are the 2nd worst sig curry shoe ever released lmao
Purchased and used 8 and 9 on indoor court. Does only grip for approximately 90 days of hard play. Player is young teenager and averages 12-15 hours of play/practice time per week.
What I do think is they need to do is go a little old school buy bringing out some marking companie before the NBA season start. That way kids will have the shoes during the season not while the NBA finals are being played
Facts. Everything you say is true. In addition, when I walk into UA outlet stores, they rarely have Steph signature models. Recently I walked into a UA retail store and they didn't have any Curry 4 Flotro available. Neither does the website. They did a good job at the $140 price point, but if I can't buy it, then they can't obtain me as a customer.
Curry Brand would be perceived as less desirable if the price was too low. I own Curry 3Z5s and 9s. Both are excellent shoes with very favorable reviews.
I think it’s a big problem when the budget shoe for his brand is like 130. Like it’s wild and the 130 doesn’t even have the flagship features so it’s just wild
@@richmahogany1 when I say flagship features I mean mainly the materials that make up a shoe. They pretty much only put in materials and technology that makes the “budget” shoes serviceable but they don’t put a fair values worth of said tech and materials. So the floor of the shoes performance is adequate but the price is higher than it should be. So the shoe can suffer in either cushion, traction, overall fit and feel etc or all at once
The truth of the matter is, the majority of consumers don't buy basketball sneakers because they're hardcore hoopers. They buy them because they want something fly that represents their favorite player(s) that looks good off court. That being said under armors design schemes have always been trash across the board. They can perform as well as they want but if they look like trash they won't sell. It's as simple as that. And I have no idea how you call the flow silhouettes beautiful. Those are some of the most boring shoes I've ever seen lol.
well curry's influence and his playstyle prove it that his signature shoe is worth 160$, i mean what can you say? if his shoe is in the legend line. the nike shoes/signature that you calling legends are popular players right? and have a championship too, well that's the same case for curry.
Dude is working for nike to put a hit on curry brand. This isnt 2016 and we arent dumb here. I hope u dont lose your channel. Let me send your link to guys at UA so they can come after you too.
I never was a under Armour fan, but, I like the design of the 8 and 9. I think they should make sure the shoe is well constructed before they price it in the upper tier.
Great video. In all honesty, durability aside, the marketing for his shoes are trash. I know we are moving further n further away from performance basketball shoes being found in the stores, however, it's insane how his shoes are nonexistent in retail stores like champs n footlocker. If you can't try on his shoe or see it regularly in person, how can u make a decision on whether to grab a pair. No everyone is a wear tester. Being able to walk into a store, see a shoe, n pick it up to try it on goes a long way to you ultimately purchasing it. I'm in Miami n I promise u, u barely see his shoes anywhere on the shelves. just a personal gripe I have with his shoes, the colorways aren't the best. Some are too childish n bland. It's sad bcuz I really enjoy his shoes.
@@futurehofer1564 they are childish n fire lol I have the elmo colorway. But overall his other colorways aren't that good. They're either basic or childish. I'm pretty sure if he had the colorways of some of the kyries/lebron/or just the colorways from his 6s.... they'd b more appealing. Go look at some of the costume colorways of the 4s.
I completely agree with the durability issues with the 8's and 9's! My 9's lasted 3 months before I had serious issues. Under Armour allowed me to return the I got a full refund; but come on UA; you have to do better! UA are downplaying how bad the 9's durability issues really are, several contacts had the same issue as me with the torsion plate breaking through the flow cushioning system and as a long term Curry shoe fan/customer (I've owned all but the 5's), I have been left feeling pissed off at UA! Yes they gave me a refund, but I took that money and bought the Nike Zoom Freak 4's. UA need to respect their customers hard earned money a little better and with Steph telling everyone he's carefully about what he puts the Curry brand name to....things don't align and it's a shame
The shoe game is garbage and heres the thing. These shoes are NOT made for you. They are made for the Players *PER GAME or potentially a few games. NOT MONTHS , NOT SEASONS, SO THIS IDEA THAT THEY ARE MAKING SHOES FOR YOU Or the market and demographic at large, is a misundeestansing of the product. Also... im not understanding this idea that players are not breaking in their shoes prior to even stepping on the court, given the need and given the fact that all players shoes "brand new" have been professionally broken in to the loint they are at their maximum comfort and ready for immediate play. It does blwo my mind that people could even move in the original currys. Calling a boxing high top shoe a basketball shoe... or the fact that high yops are knowingly far more dangerous for the ankles - and ehy 20 years ago i was rocking lows and NEVER HAD A SINGLE ANKLE INJURY while all my friends rocming high tops had to not only pretend high tops were essential , but also had to then wear those busted ankle braces and try and play ball in plastic rubbing on their ankle all game. lol . Anything over 100$ is B.S. these shoes at wholesale cost nothing to make and i gurantee the markup from Thailand or wherever to America is pennys on the dollar and i have to assume close to 2000% mark up maybe more, its greed. its gross and its been a issue. Nobody is shooting anyone for some Currys and no one is trying to roll with UA anyways as a serious baller. I think they have come a long ways, but expecting anything beyond a shoe that is supposed to kast more than 4 games for Curry... is hinestly the reality and again, not made for players who buy 1 shoe for their YMCA league and need it to last 2 years or whatever. Its just not realistic to aoply that to your expectations nor durability and also not professionally breaking your shoes in and thinking they arent going to rear up your feet. Ive never done this and theres good reason.... every shoe is going to tear you apart out the box. you gotta break em in and there are the cheap methods and the pro methods but... you gotta employ one method or another - not no method. again. Boxing hightops are not also badketball shoes. its corny A/F as well as completey insufferable, in design, comfirt and play. Anyone who hasnt noticed the market being 80% lows now or low/mids , needs to understand, theres a reason... and THANK GOD FIR KD & KOBE fir stsrting that trend.... THE SNKLE NEEDS TO BE ABLE TO BE NON RESTRICTED. And any she restdicting your ankle is s difference of a sorain or fracture Vs a roll or bad roll, but at least its not like being forced to drive a high speed motorcycle handcuffed ... enjoy the hard turn.... cause you being tossed into the gravel and a fence .
The price issue isn’t just with the name. As a player, Curry does belong in the same bracket as lebron and Jordan. The problem is that you’re asking me to pay $160 for a shoe that does the same things as something like the Kyrie Infinity that retails for $30 less. There’s nothing you can do to convince me that a curry 8 or 9 is worth that much more on court. You can make that argument for a KD 14 or a Jordan 36 or a lebron sneaker because those all offer tech that results in they all do something substantially better with the tech they feature. You could say the same about a Way Of Wade sneaker. Steph’s line is literally the worst example of charging more money for an athlete name, and that’s why I don’t own a pair. I do own Jordan 34s and 36s, but both of those do something for me on game day that my Kyrie infinity’s don’t. Again, curry’s line just doesn’t do that.
Yea as a player curry doesn’t belong in the same bracket as lebron. He’s far superior and has always been the better player with better sneakers. Jordan and curry are in a class of their own.
I couldn't agree more with Jahron. I've been collecting Curry shoes for quite some time especially the 2's, 2.5's, 3's, 6's and 7's and got disappointed since they switched to the Flow Cushion not only because of its price but Durability wise wherein it sucks so bad that it's not worth buying anymore and a waste of money. I'm a Huge Curry fan as well for a long time however most courts here in the Philippines are rough concrete and rubberized outdoor courts. I then switched to collecting Kyrie 7's instead which is for me has one of the Greatest traction for Basketball shoes of all time and also great to be used for Rubberized courts. It has also a very reasonable price and not as pricey as the Curry 8's and 9's. Still got disappointed that they kept the same tech in the 10's and even the Flowtro's. So Happy that you brought this Topic up. Hopefully Underarmour listens and at least make the Signature Curry shoes cheaper in the future. Thanks Jahron🙏🙂
This is so true. Wanted a Curry for the longest time, but the price is what always get me. I can usually purchase Nike products for 20-30% off. Why would I settle for a Curry that is so expensive di ba?
additionally Currys used to flood Filipino courts back then when it was cheaper. The first two Curry shoes were immensely popular here. The price hike definitely turned off a lot of people.
Agree with you. Courts here are usually concrete if you want hardwood it'll come with a price. So doubting on buying curry 9s. Kyrie infinity has been a good performer albiet worse shoe aesthetically speaking. If the tech there was put on kyrie low 5 then that'll be awesome
I still want to try the 1s but I loved the 2s!!!! And the 8s were amazing as well! I'm talking about performance for my taste but, almost all of them look really good!
This video is F tier. I've been rocking curry's every year. Some had bad durability but when you started talking bad about the 8's and 9's I couldn't take you seriously. I wore the 8's my whole senior year of HS ball and then for another 9 months after that. Never have I ever seen a shoe last that long, sure the flow traction pattern wore but the traction was still A+ tier. I feel the same way about the 9's. And Curry deserves the Curry Brand aspect plus 160 for a shoe these days? C'mon dude, that's like average, maybe slightly higher than average.
$160 is not average for a shoe these days. You ,any be skewing your median price with after market values. But did you see the outsole on the pair of 8’s in this video? That’s a maximum of 3 months use. It’s not good bro.
I completely agree with you. Curry shoes are a complete failure. They are a complete failure to not sell out in Australia where I'm from. If you want a pair of Curry shoes in Australia then your only option is the Grade School Version for the kids. What a complete and absolute failure of a shoe that always sells out all of his completely failed shoes. If it's cheaper then people would be more interested in checking out a shoe that's completely sold out and not available anywhere.
The iPhone might drop a week or two after being announced now because everybody is expecting it. The first one was announced in January 2007 and released that July. The second one had a similar timeline. As far as kicks, Jordan did it with the 14s. He rocked the Last Shots in June '98, and the actual 14s didn't come out until that October. Now that I think about it, that might've been a marketing move since he pretty much knew he was retiring and wasn't gonna be able to show off the shoe in action.
Also, when you look at the iPhone 15, there were software optimizations that weren't there when the phone was released. Apple isn't perfect either since they started focusing on competing with hardware instead of sticking with the bread and butter (the OSes and making sure everything works) along with better hardware. I think that one shoe reminds me more of Samsung's strategy of announce early (last year it was before Apple's announcement), wait and see for a few months, then do the actual release early the following year.
I also think Curry’s image in the media plays a part of it too. He’s more of a clean cut low drama person. He’s missing that “edge” that intrigues people. Btw, he should have just signed with Nike. They would have got his signature shoe design right.
It’s not about the shoes its about the brand itself most people are going to associate under armor as a low end brand if u not playing ball u not even going to consider getting any under armor shoes ppl get Jordans just because and they don’t play basketball at all I have got Jordans to go with a outfits when have u seen someone get Steph Curry shoes 👟 just to get fresh or just because I will wait
Curry 8, 9 and 4 flotro are my all time fav baseball shoes. I am always a Nike fan but Nike just don’t have any good basketball shoe since Kobes. Decided to try Curry 8, didn’t like it when I first tried it on because it’s so different from Nikes shoes. However, after a few week I fail in love with it. I guess everybody has different taste for cushioning and tractions.
They were selling because Curry won the finals. Before that, the sales here in the Philippines weren't that great. But Idk in other countries tho
Thank you so much for your comment it’s perspectives like this that really give us some context. If you are at liberty to say, how many units would “selling out” be? Ballpark figure.
@@bjonwong Ah cool! Now that's definitely something I didn't know! Cheers!
Nahhhhh nike fucked up by letting him go on the first place
I dont think there is nothing wrong with changing the tech, I think thats great actually. The price is high, but imo the biggest problem is Under Armour, they are overall an awful looking brand, with terrible marketing. Nike, apple etc are marketing geniuses, to the point that they barely have to do ads anymore.
But this is subjective. Objectively you can’t say there shoes look terrible. My mom thinks Yeezys are awful looking.
@@JAHRONMON Your mom is right !
@@JAHRONMON I think yeezy really does look awful coz they look like shoe rugs or something. Tho maybe it's just me because I like my shoes simple like Stan Smith, Chuck Taylor and Airforce

Word. We're coming up on a tenth Curry shoe and they didn't even start until 2015.
Curry 1s 2s and 4s were amazing. They really fell off afterwards
@@ryanjones8156 especially with the 5s. The 6s were a breath of fresh air.
I really love the curry 3's performance on the court
I agree they don't need to release a shoe every year, they should let it breathe and do a bunch of color ways.
Ive played in a lot of shoes and i personally love how the currys feel. The traction and court feel are top tier. I hate that the price is so high though and their marketing frankly sucks!!
It’s similar to the CP3 and Melo line. Jordan kept making them and no one wore them. They eventually phased out without anyone really noticing.
The curry line is more significant than those two lines.
People wear Curry's p, no one wears CP3 and Melo shoes, don't compare because it's not the same level, Curry actually sells a lot

feel you on this!! the pricing should be geared towards kids so that it can compete with the shoes at $120-130 price range. also something i noticed with the Currys: for my personal preference with Low shoes, i like when the collar and tongue of the shoe lock my feet in. like Kobes 5-11, Puma Clyde Pros, most PGs, Dame 5s. for some reason i always have a little too much ankle room in the currys i’ve tried (curry 6, 8, and 9). maybe it’s to give room for curry’s ankle braces but not sure! could just be me tho!
It's because since they are made for Curry, they make them with sime room ti fit the ankle braces.
@@activist5741 It's the machine behind it. UA should be undercutting the rest of the market with the Curry line instead of trying to match it.
Yeah, deff if Curry 8s were a little bit cheaper I woulda bought them, instead I went for Kyrie 7 instead, then KD 14s and now Harden Vol.6
Imagine if Nike wasn't dumb to let him go, or Adidas gave him a good offer
Have the same sentiments with the Curry brand. Durability should always factor the pricing, the Curry 8 and 9 can lose consumers because of the flow tech 's lackluster durability. Great overall performer but not everyone can afford the 8s or 9s at a consistent basis. Tbh, I'm so scared to use my pair because I wanna preserve the sneaker. 😅
Seeing the leaks of the Curry 10s, and Flowtro 1s , I hope it doesn't lead to what happened with Adidas - using boost over and over again without tweaks.
UA basically admitting that the 4’s cushioning were awful with the Flowtro’s lol.
Flow foam lack luster? Where do you make this up? It has the best stopping ability
@@ballgameshoes8583 He said "lackluster durability" which is true. The durability is lackluster.
@@JAHRONMON Durability of what? Can't be the Flow of the 8 and 9 when they have been sold
Puma just got in the basketball shoe game and they look so much better than UA.
I love my puma triple, 55 bucks shoe that performs like a 130 shoe.
Puma as a brand always looked better than Under Armour as a brand

@@fuckgoogle3516 Damn right. I love my Crazy Explosive. Never experienced a painful heel strike again. Even bounce. I'd pick bounce over Nike's zoom.
No hate but curry shoes have always been successful.

Was the outsole a solid color or the clear translucent one?
@@tep1236 I had both. The solid one was amazing. The translucent one was also really good but it wasn’t as good as the solid rubber.
LeBrons???? Nah fam
Agree with you. We want to try it but impractical in terms of price point. My son and I opted to KDs, New Balance hoops and PGs.
I think availability is an issue. I recently went to a Foot Locker, Finishline, Dicks, and Champs. No curry’s, not even a single UA brand shoe.

Couldn't agree more on the over-pricing issue.
They couldn’t capitalize then and they can’t now.
@@JAHRONMON in hindsight, I would never sign with UA for shoes.
I see what ANTA has offered Klay

Puma`s made some certified bad boys and my main rotation involves a pair of And1s right now so UA is right at the bottom end of my priorities for shoes, much less bball stuff.
@@NShomebase his shoes need a fire name tag to them
His shoes never looked good...
All i know is - for years in the Bay Area, i know a lot of hoopers stigma around his shoes was - “if you see a guy wearing curry’s he probably can’t hoop.”
I’m not sure how this came to be but guys like didn’t wanna associate with his shoes, might have been because it brought out a lot of casual fans and people learning basketball to basketball courts during curry’s 2 MVP years.
Man I miss the clutchfit drives, I got the curry pe when they dropped and everyone would ask me where I got em lol
You really said adidas commands more shelf space because of Ye 😂😂😂😂 bruh it’s like y’all just like making shit up.
They just need to provide value with a certain amount of hype and performance. Remember the KD II’s? They were like 80 bucks and had decent success.
@@JAHRONMON Availability is also a factor. I honestly haven't seen the main Curry shoe in stores since the 3. His shoes doesn't offer enough style or tech to warrant a $160 price tag as you mentioned. I think the UA basketball is lost. Nike also knows how to rinse and repeat a winner...the Kobe lows, kyries, KDs, and Paul George's are all essentially built off the same platform.
Curry is a beast but those curry 9 looks like sketchers.

Shoes that ticked all boxes for me (based on my playstyle and needs) till date are:
-Nike Kobe 8/9 elite
-Kyrie 3 if I need a trusted traction
-Adidas Dame 2/4/5
-Adidas D Rose 3/3.5
-Under Armour Clutchfit Drive
So far I have yet to find a shoe that could give me this same feeling like the one I listed.
As someone who collects and plays in Curry (over 100 pairs).. and is born and raised in the Bay, I agree with ALL of this.
Curry 8 and 9 are kinda awesome, def moving in the right direction hope they keep this up. With that said def indoor shoes, with the all foam outsole it'll get destroyed super fast outdoors.
I personally love the 10s and 2s
If they would be willing to drop the price around $50, I bet you would see sales go up quite a bit.

💯
Yes and under armor will tell you that they sold out but how many units is that? I think they just want to be able to have the “sold out tag” on them.
Non-shoe guy here. What “features” are you talking about?
@@richmahogany1 when I say flagship features I mean mainly the materials that make up a shoe. They pretty much only put in materials and technology that makes the “budget” shoes serviceable but they don’t put a fair values worth of said tech and materials. So the floor of the shoes performance is adequate but the price is higher than it should be. So the shoe can suffer in either cushion, traction, overall fit and feel etc or all at once
@@samodigboh I got ya, thanks. Does UA make any true flagship kicks and it's just the Currys that they are scamming with?
I really hope you are not talking about the sesame street colorways being childish because those were straigth fire
You got a full refund stop crying, girl.
Ohhhh you took the money and bought another budget shoe wow 😂
Also didn’t help that both the curry 8 and 9 were damn near IMPOSSIBLE to find anywhere
Calling a boxing high top shoe a basketball shoe... or the fact that high yops are knowingly far more dangerous for the ankles - and ehy 20 years ago i was rocking lows and NEVER HAD A SINGLE ANKLE INJURY while all my friends rocming high tops had to not only pretend high tops were essential , but also had to then wear those busted ankle braces and try and play ball in plastic rubbing on their ankle all game. lol .
Anything over 100$ is B.S.
these shoes at wholesale cost nothing to make and i gurantee the markup from Thailand or wherever to America is pennys on the dollar and i have to assume close to 2000% mark up maybe more,
its greed. its gross and its been a issue.
I actually really like Curry’s shoes. I have ankle problems too and they do a really good job at making wearing braces with then comfortable
They should get design lessons from Nike. They are making Uggly sneakers period.
I still want to try the 1s but I loved the 2s!!!! And the 8s were amazing as well! I'm talking about performance for my taste but, almost all of them look really good!
Now everybody likes dad shoes, Steph was an innovator with the 2 lows
Why would I want flow for $160 when I can get full length zoom air and cushlon for $150?
In Estonia u need to pay 190-180 for curry 8 and 9
This video is F tier.
He’s a Lakers fan bro what do you expect?
Agreed I have had the curry 8s for a year A+
you saw a video? i saw commercial after commercial with some guy mumbling in between for a minute or two then back to another commercial.
Same thing happened with the Jordan 11s. He wore them in the playoffs (May) 1995 and they didn't release til the fall.
Happy to see a video from you. I can agree, the price needs to be lower and kinda make it a bit more wearable off court.
The clip of him falling in the 6’s is not at all because of the shoe 💀 he literally simply just fell
Disagree and Curry are great
Curry's Great but the Shoes is Sucks
@@neilrollon9135 his shoes as of recent are one of the best performers in the entire industry
@@neilrollon9135 cap, Steph keeps under armour alive
It’s not about the shoes its about the brand itself most people are going to associate under armor as a low end brand if u not playing ball u not even going to consider getting any under armor shoes ppl get Jordans just because and they don’t play basketball at all I have got Jordans to go with a outfits when have u seen someone get Steph Curry shoes 👟 just to get fresh or just because I will wait
🤣🤣 nah steph > bron
I honestly don’t mind that his shoe is 160 dollars. I would choose Steph’s shoes over KD’s.
I have never seen them on a person's feet.. I tried on a pair and the fit was too uncomfortable and it so hard to put them on.. I just gave up..
Who made the shoes in the white and black at 7:13
Which colorways are those curry 2 at the 1:00 mark?
I'm 100% with Jahron on this. Truth!!!
Pricing should be around 130-140 but at least the flowtros are somewhat reasonable at the 140 price
yup. I like everything about the new Curry's - except for the price. I do consider it a rich kid's shoe...
Steph shoes have a real purpose for playing basketball. They aren’t a designer shoe.
The Curry shoes always look generic AF, that's the issue. Price isn't the problem, the materials and Walmart like designs are.
Maybe if it was Nike are adidas it would’ve been better
Curry 8, 9 and 4 flotro are my all time fav baseball shoes. I am always a Nike fan but Nike just don’t have any good basketball shoe since Kobes. Decided to try Curry 8, didn’t like it when I first tried it on because it’s so different from Nikes shoes. However, after a few week I fail in love with it. I guess everybody has different taste for cushioning and tractions.
Nobody is denying that they’re a top performer. Sad thing is most people don’t know this because the price of admission is too high.
@@JAHRONMON true. UA should promote their budget line basketball shoe more as a gateway to their tech
