Excellent, excellent review. Thank you for comparing the models to the older ones as well....because as you know.... many of us still are using our dt770 pro 80 ohms. They are tanks! Going to have to give these Mk11s a listen as they will probably be the replacement to mine, if they ever fail.

Tremendous review! I enjoy the amount of effort you put into your audio reviews. Thanks for that!! I've tried lots of brands, but keep coming back to Beyerdynamic because I have a head the size of a wookie and the 700/1700 family fits my big brain bucket without feeling squished.
I haven't tried the OG 1990's, but I have the MK II's and they are awesome when you get a fully working pair lol. However BUYERS BEWARE: the new TESLA 45 drivers have quite a significant driver imbalance issue and the QC doesn't seem very good. If you are someone who loves deep sub bass, the drivers have an issue where it sounds like the diaphram is making contact with something else in the driver, at reasonable listening levels. This is not the typical "hair on the driver" issue that sometimes beyerdynamic headphones suffer with. I have the DT 770s, DT 700 Pro X and DT 1990 MK II. The 700 Pro X also has this weird diaphragm issue with lower sub bass frequencies, but I reaaaaaally have to pump power into the headphones at extreme levels in order for it to trigger. The 1990 MK II drivers seem much more sensitive. Here's where the QC comes into play. The first pair I received, the left ear would "distort" during low sub bass frequencies at noticeably lower volumes than the right ear. Sent them back for replacement, same issue, but on the right ear. Another driver imbalance. Sent them back again for replacement (note, REPLACEMENT meaning BRAND NEW, not repair... left ear) lol I then ordered TWO brand new drivers from Beyerdynamic's official parts store in Germany (beware UK buyers, they do not ship direct, so it will be difficult to source replacement parts now until Polar UK start stocking them, they are still new. I had a friend in Germany ship them to me). The left driver completely failed (static issue and then died), both of those new drivers ordered had a lower sub bass/volume distortion threshold than the right driver originally in the headphone. I did not go through Beyer directly, but I did reach out to them and the customer service was good. UK buyers, I went through SCAN and their RMA service was also very good. Can't complain. Either my luck is real bad, or the QC is terrible and I love beyerdynamic cans usually. Having said that, they are great when working! 🤣🤣🤣
I know on the OG Dt 1990s, a lot of people preferred the headphone with the Dekoni Elite Velour earpads as it tames the treble quite considerably, making the headphone more pleasing for casual listening. I know you do a lot of measurements with different earpads, the Velours might be something with considering for the DT 1990s MkII. Great video! Hope you start feeling better.
Awesome review, exactly what I was looking for. What some other reviewers dont get is that there are folks out there like me that are in love with the Beyer sound signature . So I am not interested in knowing how well these new Beyers do against a Sennheiser HD 600 or a Higiman or whatever. I am interested in knowing how these stack up against other Beyers, which is exactly what you did. Thanks for that! P. S.: I also love my 700 Pro X, hands down my most used headphones
Great review of the MK2s and comparisons to all the other Beyers. I'm very curious to hear how the 1990 Pro MK2 compares to Ananda Nano: For instance, which one has the better resolution and the general technicalities? Which one has the better midrange presentation? Which one has the better tonal balance to you? And, finally, which one is more comfortable to wear?
I think the MK2 is more comfortable, and feels more durable. The Ananda Nano doesn't have the same peak as the 1990 MK2, but it's a brighter presentation overall. The Nano definitely wins in terms of resolution and technicalities. 1990Mk2 has a more natural vocal presentation.
@GadgetryTech Thank you, Joe. You're always most helpful. As my final question, would you say the midrange presentation (natural vocals, tone, and timbre) is better on the MK2 than Aune AR5000? As always, my appreciation to you, your work, and your time, brother.
Great video as usual, I'm a huge fan of your channel and Beyerdynamic, you can imagine how excited I am with the video. Quick question, for mostly gaming usage, would you recommend the DT 1990 Pro or DT 900 Pro X, I'm really in doubt about those two. I already have the DT 700 Pro X and I use the schiit help 2e. Stay safe.
Excellent review! I love the 1770 mk11. Insane imaging, great resolution in the highs & lows. They are an intense headphone great for all genres & media. Also, thanks for the frequency graph as I will eq according to my tastes. I prefer these to my focal celestee's & maybe my stellia's.
Thanks for all the work you put in. Beyer's are a mixed bag for me (that treble peak) but love the comfort and build quality. Most of the parts are also user serviceable which is nice. Also I'm glad you showed the inner housing of the 1990's. They're a lot less open than the seem from the outside. The OG is similar.
Thanks for another great review. To eliminate 8 kHz peak you should try with Dekoni elite velour pads and Amiron fleece disc ...great improvment on my dt1990 og.

These are all great choices and I generally agree with this take. I haven't used the Cadenza 4 though. KE4, Mega5EST, YanYin Canon II, are all awesome for both music and gaming.
this is great for people with hearing damage, i love how inclusive beyerdynamic is with their tunings, a little disappointed you didnt compare it to headphones in the same price bracket
Hearing damage may go two ways....too sensitive (tenanitiis) or insensitive for some frequencies. Sensitivity is also influenced by exposure to noise at work, street, and ambient sounds during the day. I use many different hp from hd650 when tired to mv1, 770pro X, and 325x for fun and critical listening. Slightly modded t50rp mk.3 for gaming and music. Generally, the better the amplifier employed the better sound. I use Phonitors and prefer pro gear than any consumer oriented products (been 40 years plus an audiophile) but......
I have the 900 Pro X and use them for gaming and music. I did some minor EQ (used your profile and fine-tuned it for me) and I am very happy with them. I was always wondering if it was worth upgrading to the 1990s. But was not sure if they are worth paying 600 Euros. Now I am tempted to buy the new Mk.2. Thanks for the review.
Good to hear! If you are already EQ'ing, the MK2 will sound a little more resolving, but will likely need more EQ than your 900 Pro X, depending on what your preference actually is. If you already have a 900 X though and like it a lot, maybe pursue something different entirely to add to your colleciton?

look into hd6xx, if you're in the US. I (and many others) find that beyerdynamic treble is too piercing when listening at medium/loud volume, can be especially annoying in gaming when you want to hear details.
@@not_3than I would have deffs looked into those, however all the research i’ve done has told me they don’t have the best soundstage or imaging for gaming, and that the 490s and 900 pro x both beat them out in that regard. if i didn’t play competitive games i wouldn’t care , but I love a good battle royale / multiplayer shooter
@@GOilers97900 Pro x are default choice, they're slightly bright. 490 pro if you want something warmer, both are in sane tier and 1990 pro are higher tier, not meant for enjoying music. Hope you feel better bro. Your my Fav headphone reviewer: Personally I’m getting EQ fatigue however with the reviews. I have these and it’s all subjective. I never EQ them for music and gaming. And I’m a studio acoustic guitar player. You’re chasing the dragon for your preferred sound imo. For gaming I bought the Audeze LCD-GX… And until a headset can beat those for the universal gaming use I need including multiplayer “footsteps” then I’m all set. And once again I do not EQ them. Zero Need. Footsteps in these games are not hard to hear with what?? 90 percent of gaming and audiophile headsets at pretty much any price. If I’m buying headsets and I do. For gaming and music. I personally don’t want to EQ out of the box. If so then I can just get a headset that is high on treble or bass or best of both worlds. If you’re EQ’ing everything and recommending it then start making EQ vids on every one of those headphones also. Because that’s what people in the comments start asking. And you work your A$$ off as it is. Get healthy.
Thanks for the support and for the feedback! I’ll do my best for balancing both sides. Sometimes people like something enough but the EQ makes it the final piece they need, others refuse EQ, so I try to cover that too. Anyway, thanks again
the biggest issue for me for the beyer 1xxx line is they are priced too high. The 'feel' to me is more similar to a hd600, r70x, mv1. if they are 600$, they are competing with things like arya, 109 pro, clear
Yup! Reviewers were told to keep it under embargo until February 15th due to exclusive coverage by someone else (not sure who). Unfortunately I can't do anything until then
How do I get your EQ profiles on my PC? Can't seem to find an EQ program to use. I have exported a profile you have listed but not sure how to activate it to use on my new headphones.
Aune AR5000, Sennheiser HD 490 Pro (the one that comes with mixing pads), Hifiman Arya Stealth. For lower price, the beyer DT 700 Pro X, Sennheiser HD 560S, Sennheiser HD 6x0 line (6xx, 600, 650). VZR Model One if you like bass but are still okay with EQ. Edit : Audeze MM100 as good for FPS too
@@GadgetryTech I recently bought the HD 490 Pro I like them but maybe my amp/dac is holding them back I have the G6 and might get the dx3pro+ do you think it would help? I like the HD490s for gaming just wondering if there’s anything better for imaging and soundstage I mostly play R6 and cod. Thanks also have you tried the new ath r70ax?
if its only for competetive gaming, its mostly just imaging which u can get with iems on a budget. I got fiio ft5 for music and immersive single player games and truthear x crinacle zero blue for competitive gaming. But imma be honest with you. Its mostly just cope that expensive headphones are going to make you a better player. Unless the headphones are super cheap and completely ruin imaging while also having a super super narrow soundstage. Its not going to help much. The only game where i noticed the hifiman ananda nanos superior soundstage and imaging vs the fiio ft5 was in apex and battlefield.
What do you use for headphone measurements? I assume it's a 711 clone from ali, but which one and also what head do you use. Can you giuve me some name models what to exaclty buy? I want to start my own measurements and modding of headphones.
So I use the KB006x pinna, but I will also be adding the KB501x pinna soon. Both are great. They have situations where one is better suited than the other. One advantage to the 501x is it works better with more shallow ear pads/cups, making it easier to maintain a seal. This store is reputable for good iec711 clones… a.aliexpress.com/_mPLoFND
@GadgetryTech i found also 711 clones that have round circle built behind them. This one you sent looks like long tube whats the difference? Also the 711 that you sent is directly connected to some kind of audio interface or requires some interface before? Yes im aiming into the pinas with soft surface
I’m the same way. I’ve tried both mk2s and their mk1s and I returned all of them. That treble kills me. Currently in love with the hd490s. Much more so than my hd800s and 660s2s
@@Jcrash1 Would you say the 490 pros have a straight up higher quality of sound than the dt 900 pro Xs? Im not too familiar with audiophile sounds but maybe what im referring to is the "resolution"? The other thing stopping me from sticking with the 490s over the 900 pro X is the build quality. Im not sure I like that the 490s have so much plastic while being more expensive, however, I realize they probably do this to reduce weight, but it just makes them feel cheap. They do look pre sick tho
@@GOilers97 the hd490s have an amazing build for how lightweight and comfortable they are. They’re insane and have full articulation. Sound quality… it may be subjective but I believe the hd490s have a higher resolution for my taste. The thing with beyers are that their “signature” treble kills my ears. I can’t listen to stuff at half the volume I can with the hd490s. That being said…. More treble doesn’t necessarily equal more detail and resolution. In my opinion the treble is so strong on beyerdynamics that it overwhelms everything else, resulting in a very bright sound signature where on paper they produce more bass, but you simply can’t focus on it due to the sibilance I perceive with their specific Tuning. Even when I dial back treble in EQ, the passively tuned peaks they have remain and are fatiguing. The hd490s sound great stock, (and I’m an avid EQ user) but respond great to EQ. I have a big bump in bass and I didn’t even need to touch the treble (where on the rest of my headphones I need to adjust it) and it sounds fantastic. I cannot believe how much bass the HD490s put out for an open back. All in all, HD490s are fantastic, and have miniXLR on both sides. If you get the pro plus, you can use the other pads to turn back the bass to make it quite neutral and the case is fantastic. One more thing is that many people don’t talk about timbre or how natural stuff sounds. On the beyers I’ve had come through, nothing can match how sennhiser tunes how natural they sound. The 1990s and 1770s both sounded unnatural to me due to the sibilance, which also made vocals and cymbals sound compressed- because in real life, they simply don’t sound like that. If I were you- order both, return which ones you don’t like. I always order 2x pair of headphones at a time.
I own the original 1990 Pro and tried the 1990 Pro MKII and I used to be a big, big fan of them. I still love them, the feeling of quality and craftsmanship is quite frankly unmatched at the price point but sound-wise, these days, there is better around the same price range and even lower. Still, great set of cans.
I've compared the DT 1990 MK I with a lot of the other "top tier" options in their budget range and I'm yet to see a headphone that is as much of an ideal allrounder as they are. They can be analytical or fun and energetic, they're great for music but also for gaming or movies... they're the ultimate jack of all trades headphone in their price range IMO.
@@captainbozo01 I would have agreed with you years ago until I tried a few other headphones that do all of those things just as well and some others even better than the DT 1990. But as I said, still holds up.

You’re chasing the dragon for your preferred sound imo.
For gaming I bought the Audeze LCD-GX…
And until a headset can beat those for the universal gaming use I need including multiplayer “footsteps” then I’m all set.
@ Absolutely Joe. Keep on pumping bro your doing great🤙
the biggest issue for me for the beyer 1xxx line is they are priced too high. The 'feel' to me is more similar to a hd600, r70x, mv1. if they are 600$, they are competing with things like arya, 109 pro, clear
Are you planning on reviewing Audio-Technica ATH-R50x and ATH-R70xa?
R70xa is great!
Yup! Reviewers were told to keep it under embargo until February 15th due to exclusive coverage by someone else (not sure who). Unfortunately I can't do anything until then
Don't suppose there's a review for the ROG Pelta in the pipeline at all?
Not sure yet! I have a lot of stuff coming up but the Pelta isn’t on the list just yet
@GadgetryTech appreciate the response, will keep my eye on the channel 🙂
How do I get your EQ profiles on my PC? Can't seem to find an EQ program to use. I have exported a profile you have listed but not sure how to activate it to use on my new headphones.
Equalizer APO on Widnows, Soundsource on Mac
What’s some recommendations for fps competitive gaming headphones for a 600$ budget?
This store is reputable for good iec711 clones…

@GadgetryTech i found also 711 clones that have round circle built behind them. This one you sent looks like long tube whats the difference?
Also the 711 that you sent is directly connected to some kind of audio interface or requires some interface before?
Yes im aiming into the pinas with soft surface
Beyerdynamic makes great headphones
hey sir i have a question , what would be the best beyerdynamic headset for gaming the mmx 300 pro or the 330 pro , thanks and have a good day .
Turtle beach 700 gen3 why go wired when you can go wireless stay safe and happy gaming to all.
That would be the MMX 330 pro unless you are in noisy room and need a bit more sound isolation.
@ i love the base on the 300 and the trebles , does the 330 pro still has à little bit of that base?
Close backs are superior to others in games imho, because of isolation from the environment you got better immersion.
Isolation is helpful if you have a noisy environment for sure! If the room is quiet though, open backs are great for imaging.
@@GadgetryTech Open back all the way!
Beyerdynamic makes great headphones, awesome for studio people. but I am all for Sennheiser options.
Sennheiser 490 pro worst headphones on the market for gaming audio the sound is awful and there boring no bass
@ Almost every single person disagrees with that statement, it is one of the top headphones for competitive gaming if not THE top
still cant use balanced cable.

Shit dude, you don’t look well. You’ve lost a lot of weight. I hope you actually are ok. Feeling for you mate. Ts & Ps 🤘✌️
It sounds more like DT 900 Pro X 2
To you? I got quite a different take but definitely listen to your own ear more than mine :)
@ I meant the the dt 1990 2 looks more like the dt 900 pro x then the original 1990
@ What would you say those headphones are, in your opinion?
@ One of them would be the Austrian Audio Hi-X65. It is technically exceptional for its price.
@ I've heard good things about Austrian Audio, maybe I'll give it a try sometime! :)
