  • I decided at the last minute to head to the track with Rob Jr and Mike from the shop to see what our 2020 F250 7.3L Godzilla Super Duty would run after our recent upgrades from Willis Performance! It went quite a bit quicker than we all expected! Rob Jr ran a new best in his Naturally Aspirated 10-speed Mustang GT in his quest for 9s.

    Not bad numbers, right up there with muscle cars from the 1960s. I owned a 1971 440 Fury police car that turned a 15.99@99 mph at National Trail Raceway. This truck is quicker and slightly faster than a cop car in the quarter. Now...
    Considering the numbers cars like the Hemis and 440-6 cars turned in it's obvious that the manufacturers were sandbagging the numbers to get past the insurance companies. I just came from a site that lists classic muscle car numbers and the truck is the equal to the 1970 426 Hemi-Cuda. Impressive indeed!

I myself have a 2020 Ford Ranger XLT 4x4 Super Cab with all stock 30.1 inch tall tires. Currently with a Mishimoto cold air intake kit with non-oiled "dry" cone filter, an AWE Tuning 3 inch stainless steel exhaust with dual tips & a Mountune heavy-duty, high performance intercooler (as of course most all Ford EcoBoost turbocharged motors have heatsoak issues). So far mines with "stock" OEM Ford tune, but mine will be custom tuned very soon! Love my Ford Ranger EcoBoost + this truck platform!

  • @fordmud
    @fordmud 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You really need tires if it can't hook in 2wd with the locker on, just from my experience running (especially on a sticky track) in 4wd puts a ton of strain on the drivetrain which is robbing alot of power. Also a trick I used with the 6 speeds on a mostly stock truck was to start in 2nd if your going to load up the converter for a launch, otherwise it got up went quicker just flooring it from idle. But that was my 5.0l f150, haven't had a chance to run the 10spd so it might be completely different.
    But definitely try a run in 2wd, even if you have to manually start from 3rd to get it to dig without spinning.

    • @kleetus92
      @kleetus92 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      True on the losses, I guarantee the front rear tire sizes are different just from wear, running it in 4x4 is causing it to bind on itself. Not enough to skip the tires, but its there.
      Launch in 4x4, and kick it to 2wd after 2nd gear shift.

    this is awesome, leave work drive to the track with no prep and run consistent 14.0's in a 7400 lb truck , my guess with the stock wheels/tires you'd run 13.98 which is about 110mph and that trans is stout no worries there, i could hear the tires the service sounded pretty sticky, your run at 14.07 seemed like you brake torqued it a bit, just a guess, nice runs every time , the aussies are doing some testing with the 7.3 and love it and made 460 hp NA i believe that just on the dyno not in a truck, still cool to see buddy here in Canada has the engine in his super duty 4x4 and it sounds good stock and wants to do an exhaust on it to make it better just doesn't have the $1500.00 right now 👍

    UNRELATED QUESTION: I have a stock 2019 F250 Lariat, 6.2 gas engine. Can a 5 Star or similar tune without other engine modifications improve towing performance?
    Another question. Have you compared 0 - 60 of the stock 7.3 to the stock 6.2? I'm trying to understand how much performance comes between the two trucks.

    • @pyromonster99
      @pyromonster99 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A 5 star tune will wake these trucks up a bit and add some power. The problem is in order to get noticable gains on a vehicle that weights this much, your talking about a lot of power and just a tune isn't going to do that. The biggest advantage to a 5 star tune is the reconfiguring of the transmission shift points which really improves driveability and takes away some sluggishness. It's definitely worth it.

    With the F250 can you switch from 4wd to 2wd on the fly? Only reason I ask is I’ve seen some models of trucks launch in 4wd but after the 60’ switch to 2wd for less hypothetical drivetrain loss and run slightly faster. Your thoughts?

      You can switch on the fly, but it probably won't disengage until you let off the throttle

    Some proper street tires would do it justice in the 60 foot

    At idle, that 7.3 sounds so much like my old ‘82 F150 with the 351W that had an oversized cam. Love this engine and the classic sound it puts out.

    Ken , can we get more content on the NA 5.0 with the forged weld wheels? I see 9s in that owners near runs. Thanks!!

    Seems like reaction time is kinda slow in some of the clips. 7.3 drag racing is super cool! Great content!

      Unless you're bracket racing with a pro tree or the full tree, reaction time doesn't matter.

      Reaction time doesn't matter on time. Can sit there 5 mins on green and until you move out of the beams the time doesn't start

    Dude maybe I don't understand but it looks like you are losing 0.5 second on every launch (edit: maybe 0.8 second). Brake torque it and release on green!
