  • Brian Wolfe and REVan Evan crank up a 7.3L Godzilla Ford V8 with a Stage 1 basic cam, mildly ported cylinder heads and a stock bottom end. It makes fantastic power and would be the perfect engine for most project cars, drag racers or road course runners. This test shows what a 446-inch Ford can do with basic hot rod tricks.

      A 460 is larger and doesn't fit as easily. This takes up virtually the same room as a small block 351. You only gotta have a 3 inch cowl to fit it in a fox and with the newer low pro intakes Ford makes it would have even less clearance issues it Def fits easier than a 460 big block.

      It’s a velocity vs cfm thing. More area is more cfm (flow) and less area is less cfm but more velocity.
      Velocity is torque related and cfm is max power related.

    • @andyharman3022
      @andyharman3022 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah. The stock truck manifold has longer runners, so it will make better torque in the mid-range, but lose power at the top end. That's pretty typical stuff. Richard Holdener videos have a lot of examples of that.

    • @mfree80286
      @mfree80286 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Joe Blo It's resonance. Ever had water hammer? Air has weight, and an intake isn't a continuous flow... the intake valve's constantly opening and closing, and when it's closed all the moving air tends to cram into the back of the valve where it can 'bounce' in a wave back out, unless the timing's just right and the intake opens just before it starts to make that reversion. The length of the runner determines at what RPM that happens, so changing the runner length changes where the torque peak falls. Shorter=higher, longer=lower, and that's because there's more air moving in total to pack in so it takes a longer amount of time for peak mass.

    • @midnight347

And they charge a good bit of money to do porting just because of their skill so no one is going to ask them to port something un less its a pretty high level of porting and want to get the best power possible out of those stock heads. "Stage 1, 2, etc" is non-universal terminology. All those examples have stock heads. None of them have a billet intake that doesn't clear the stock hood.
      I think you are searching for emotional reasons one brand will outdo another. The 7.3 has 19 more cubic inches, and ultimately a taller deck height which will allow bigger aftermarket strokers. I don't see anything principally different about the design that is going to allow for way better results than an LS of similar displacement with similar headflow. An LT with the same stats would outperform both. They are direct injection which will always allow for more compression on pump gas. Ford could always release a DI version, but I hope they keep this port injection model in trucks.
      My interest in this engine is because I see it as essentially a slightly larger LS3/LS7 for a lower cost. It is a MUCH lower cost than a tall deck LS. Aftermarket support for the DI LT engines has never taken off like for the port injection LS because of the tuning challenges.

    Kinda over rated , yeah its better than a Chevy or any stock 460 but ,I dont get the hyp, a 460 with some 60 49 scj or p51 heads ,Good pistons upgraded rod bolts , cam lifters, rockers bla bla, is 600- 690hp 600 torque on pump gas. And doing it all saving a few $$$ IF you build it yourself compared to a 7.3 crate motor, keep the compression down put a single turbo on it your 750hp minimum and will hold compression longer and not blow by like a core shift bow tie

      That is alot of modding to the 460 to be comparable and it's a larger engine physically i.e. don't fit as easily. You say you don't get the hype? I don't get the hate on the engine simply because it's another quality option everyone starts talking shit and saying stupid shit like you just did. Why? Whats wrong with more options?

    Thats SHIT!!! Coyotes make 600hp with stock unported heads, and stock cams.

      No they don't not even close dude. Guess you didn't see the torque did you? Coyote guys don't even know what that word even means. Let's see their torque at 1500-2000 rpm. Stop with it.

    Brian said they made 600 hp with the stock intake. They only made 640 with the custom intake? I would think it would be more than that.

      I’ll take 40 hp for an intake swap any day.

      just goes to show thes stock intake was good in the first place and not much could be done to improve on it

      40 hp gain is quite alot I think it was like 45 actually that is alot for an intake swap honestly.

    Little port work / really means, CNC Porting, new valves, valve springs, guides etc. Etc.
    Little cam shaft / really means, bug cam, new lifters, pushrods, timing set, etc.
    TOTAL WASTE

    Excellent video & a great engine. If democrats ever allow the lockdowns to end & the economy to start back up you should be able to sell a bunch of these engines.

    Waste of money. $8,000 for just the the stock 7.3 that make 430hp. It's less than $4,000 for a brand new LS crate engine that makes 450 hp. Cool build but Only a fool would pay double for the same amount of power.

      Michael Gilmore / hp is for topspeed, torque (curve) is what counts
