I live down the street from the railway crossing in Gillies street, there is a small plaque at the scene but is usually obscured by long grass. My neighbour at the time was working at an adjacent sheepskin facility (6:12 top right of picture) and saw the whole incident occur
Thank you. I grew up in Benalla. Memories of trips to Yarrawonga on a Walker Railmotor called 'the Beetle' come to mind. A great railway town. I live in Canberra, the Nation's capital now, and it is NOT a railway town. It's something I really miss. Thanks for the video digger. 🇦🇺😀👍
Very well done I'm glad TH-cam recommended me this video

Nicely done informative video . Keep up the great work
Ya bet me to this by a long shot, ripper job!
The driver and the fireman are friends of mine
These are amazing, you should do a video on the Healesville line.
Script for that one is finished just need time to produce it
good show
Good information and video, well done, the only small criticism is a little shoddy spelling here and there
Steam locomotives are built tough, both to dish it out and take it. Usually the only thing they can meet which inflicts destructive damage is another locomotive. Sadly, the same does not apply to the engine's crew; a shame they lost three good men due to an idiot's carelessness. What is it about truck drivers that they seem to have a pathological attraction to level crossings? I'm glad that K183's back in business though.
A extra bit of danger the level crossings along gillies st are passive
B double trailer, the b trailer and what looks like the a is damaged. The truck was probably ok.
I remember this day too well. Truck drivers and the industry are arrogant menaces still and fatalities like this still happen. Recently they were suggesting to put side lights on trains like trucks. Or truck drivers can see flashing lights at crossings.
That particular crossing doesn't have ligs or gates, just signs. I live down the street from the accident spot and my neighbour at the time saw the incident happen while at work at the adjacent sheepskin facility
As I understand it, this accident happened in broad daylight so it is unlikely additional lighting would have prevented it. Since the train and truck were running parallel to each other it seems hard to believe the truck driver didn't know the train was there.
5 k classes? I thought there were only 4, K183, K190, K153 and K163
K160, owned by the VGR. Not operational right now, in overhaul. But has run in preservation before. And will again soon enough
@@CalebsCrossingsYT the one at newport?
@@Jaytheautisticteen yep
I strongly suggest this just be deleted and let it be.
No
Why?
Because this video is the real history of K183
