Honestly I’m ok with that. The people who worked on the game said they got to put basically every idea they had for the game in either the game or dlc. So if they were to make it would be based on money and not that they have unexplored ideas or storylines. Which is never a good start.
I could play a slightly escalating Isolation sequel where you *can* fight the Aliens but you have very few resources to do so and it's more like a dynamic full horror System Shock with unpredictable AI than anything else. I mean, they could redo the same game again but, I don't think it would work again, it would be great but I have no idea what could you add to that masterpiece.
Sadly that never came to pass. He had some good stories with his two movies. Chappie and District9 were well written and well executed. I wish they'd do an Amanda Ripley story and have Sigourney Weaver play *her*. WIth someone new playing Ellen. Since canon of Amanda-Ripley McClaren is for her to die at approximately 66 (Aliens Special Edition). Sigourney Weaver's age is perfectly inline with that. Just as Sigourney Weaver's mom played her aged daughter back then. Expand Amanda from the Alien Isolation universe and have her old narrating the story. Does not necessarily need to be Alien Isolation story line. Could be a movie sequel with the events of Sevestopol as a cutscene to open the film. It gives us a torch pass to someone new and puts Sigourney Weaver in the movie one last time. Something like the Star Trek reboots kept Spock as a catalyist.

It is astouding to me how much respect, if we can call it that, the studio has on Scott to keep making Alien movies, or rather the insane plan of multiple prequels. I think that it would have been better for the Chappie and District 9 director to continue with his pitch as what people really wanted was a continuation of the Alien 2 cast and see where they go. It gives Sigourney Weaver a dignified end and the chance for a new leading character, plus the ideas of mass produced xenomorphs controlled by humans is the most realistic take for the aliens now. They have become so watered down from their original pressence as killer stalkers when the actual fear to ampt up the series is how this far future conglomerate of Weiland-Yutani desires to control everything. This could tie to what the crew was really supposed to be doing in the original movie and how this corpotation is searching ways to further expand. Perhaps even in a later movie tie it to the whole nature of humanity and what creation means with a battle of mass produced xenos under W-U to go up against the Engineers.
Interesting video. This is my all-time favorite movie series. I really love all Alien films - each one adds something new and fresh. I'd love to see Alien 5 with Ripley 8. Never liked the idea of ignoring Alien 3 and Resurrection.
The getting pissed at Charisma Carpenter for getting pregnant and Angel Season 4's stupid storyline of Cordelia being possessed by and birthing Jasmine, Jasmine in Cordelia's body having sex with Connor who for most of the previous season had been a baby Cordelia was helping Angel bring up and Cordelia going into a coma after Jasmine's birth being a sick "punishment" for Carpenter's real life pregnancy has been well known for years but I never knew about him being creepy around Michelle Trachtenberg to the point the other cast members didn't want her on her own in a room with him. Him getting pissed off at James Marsters when the character of Spike got popular because Whedon had wanted to kill Spike off at the end of Buffy Season 2 was pathetic.

I think if your script kills off Ripley, Hicks, or Newt it's probably a bad script. Don't get me wrong those characters are allowed to die. They shouldn't be demigod super soldiers. But seeing them strive for survival so much in Aliens only to kill them off is a real slap in the face especially if it's the beginning of the film. As for the sequels I'd like to have seen. AVP with Broken Tusk and Machiko would be a dream come true. This wasn't mentioned in the video but I have been told in the past (no reliable sources) that AVP 1994 was going to tie into a movie so that would have been really excellent as well. I'd also have liked the reboot Alien 3 from the Chappie director and the Alien 3 that got turned into a comic and a book. Those both sound great and the idea of an airborne alien infection makes me think Covenant could have been a lot better with some rewrites. Starbeast is also cool and I feel like with some reworking it could just be it's own thing and still be made. Edit: Forgot to say thanks for the video Matt. It’s amusing to see ideas fall through time like a pachinko machine. Gibson’s radical expansion of the “alien as virus” finding its way into Covenant is definitely something. Although, like with Shin Godzilla’s ending message, having a story based entirely around community and collective to challenge a threat that acts as internal molting/corruption horror to threaten that community makes sense. The parts as they appear in Covenant, not so much. (Read the comic WITH the audio drama backing it. Big recommend!)
Yeah, Gibson's Alien 3 would have been an interesting departure from the then--established canon. The franchise would have headed somewhere towards The Thing or Prometheus with the "xenomorph goo".
Rids also said he wanted to do a prequel to Covenant, or was it TWO prequels? I honestly forget, and he may not have pushed it in more than one interview, but after Covenant had released, it was clear a lot had gone on in between Prometheus and Covenant, so maybe as a response to WHAT HAPPENED TO SHAW, he suggested a “Midiquel?”
This franchise is a really good example of what happens when a studio and not a person is in charge of the franchise - there is no real plan so every movie kind of goes for broke which messes up the next one. I am actually surprised we didn't get a bunch of low budget straight to video movies at some point - I am not giving them credit for not wanting to make the movies seem cheap, I think they just want the big money from a successful blockbuster and not the smaller amount a direct to video would produce.
I know Prometheus and Covenant are mostly disliked but I really enjoyed them still so I do hope we can get some more Alien movie sequels cause I’ll always be interested and watch it
I am unironically still waiting for the Alien Awakening film. I just hate cliffhangers, no matter what the quality of the previous entry is and I was frankly into Prometheus and Covenant.
As I see it, two were the most counterproductive moves in this saga: remaining tied to Ripley after Aliens, and not having continued the narrative line of Prometheus. Ripley had already said everything at the end of Cameron's film, she had obtained consolation and finished her story. We could easily talk about other encounters with the xenomorphs, varying the plot. For Prometheus, well...an interesting premise was created in the contrast between Shaw and David, forced to travel together to the engineers' planet of origin. It was the promising setting for the clash between two different visions: Elizabeth saw her hopes of finding meaning in human existence and a purpose for the engineers' extermination project shattered; David, for his part, developed the arrogance of becoming a creator god, until the clash between the two came, which culminated in Shaw's death. However, the problem of that blessed wreckage on LV-426 remains, which certainly crashed much earlier than the events of Prometheus and Covenant.
just wanna make a point for the original AVP at 11:00 , the predators didn't know humans were on the planet, this was a planet they have used for many generations to test predators against aliens as there were animals on the planet already.
There are soooo many ways in which fox effed up with the Aliens franchise since Aliens. But this one might take the cake. That and letting Scott shove artsy fartsy prequals nobody asked for instead of the Aliens sequel everyone wanted. I just hope disney has better respect for the franchise then fox did.
@@Dejavuproned8 *Looks dubiously at Star Wars.* Sorry man, not holding my breath on Disney understanding what makes a franchise great. I mean, I could be wrong. Maybe.
This is seriously one of the best TH-cam channels, entertaining, informative, and well articulated. I look forward to your videos, friend... also, Joss Whedon suckssssssss
Fox doesn't understand Alien, but neither Ridley Scott... It goes to show you cinema is a collective art, and when you first had that collaboration between O'Bannon, Giger and Scott, that was magic. The second came close with Hurd, Cameron and Winston, but there's never been another great team in the franchise. Weaver is the heart of the franchise, but she can't cover all its faults (the should give her an honorary Oscar just for being Ripley). Great video, Thanx!!!
I feel like I am the only person that truly appreciates Alien Resurrection. That said, the one unmade sequel I was truly looking forward to would have been Neil Blonkamps film, I liked the ideas presented a lot, even if it would have meant retconning Resurrection out of existence
You're not the only one. In fact, it's my 4th favourite thing in the franchise after Alien, Aliens and the Isolation video game. I don't like Whedon but I dig the movie's darkly comedic tone and viewed as a self-parody of the franchise (which it was according to Whedon) it's one of the most entertaining things with "Alien" name on it. Is it silly? Yes it is. And it's exactly the point! TBH I like it way more than Alien 3 which I hate as a boring reharsh of the original masterpiece but without any of the genious that made the first movie great. I dig the gothic look but theatrical or director's cut I find it horrible.
I would really love to see a comic book adaptation of Neil Blomkamp's Alien movie. If William Gibson's Alien 3 got adapted into a comic book, then i'm pretty sure Neil Bomkamp's Alien movie could be made into a comic book too.
I wanted the prequel trilogy as first envisioned. Covenant seemed to a "screw you" to the feedback he got after Prometheus. Prometheus was solid and a beautifully shot film...with really stupid human characters. Aliens and Alien were the only ones that had fleshed out characters that behaved as you'd expect given circumstances...and died anyway. Prometheus had a few really good characters...who betrayed their core values to get to the part where they died. Covenant just doubled down on human idiocy. I think Scott was mad at humanity for those films. Still would've loved to have seen Shaw and David's story through. Blomkamp's movie is another lost opportunity. I hate Alien 3 most of all for the studio not spending the money to bring Hicks and Newt back.
My favorite idea is hands down the David Twohy script. A group of prisoners running around trying to escape from several different specialized xenomorphs just sounds perfect to me.
BtW I’m still waiting for my sequel to Prometheus with Shaw. They really could have tied it all together with just one more film. I swear the original plan was a pair of Alien prequels, not a trilogy.
4:09 Sam Smith must’ve used the power of singing to stop the Xenomorphs. In all seriousness, I love these unmade sequels videos. It’s always interesting to hear what could’ve been and how one little change could have affected the franchise. I have seen all the Alien movies (minus the AVP ones) and quite honestly I never really like any of them apart from Alien and Aliens. I admire Scott’s more monster movie approach to Prometheus and Covenant (not to mention Fassbender is awesome in both) but it just never did anything for me and Resurrection is...shit. Alien 3 I think had the most potential to be a great movie if it weren’t for all the production problems/development Hell it went through. Most of these unmade sequels sound so interesting (aside from Whedon’s...yuck). Great video Matt. Do you have any Alien comic recommendations?
Damn I didn’t know they made a bunch of these unproduced screenplays into comics they also made a comic of the unproduced Predator screenplay where the Predator was this bug type alien
Everybody likes to give primary credit to Ridley Scott for how good Alien was, but what we got in Prometheus and Covenant would indicate that he never really understood what he was working with. Honestly, I think Dan O'Bannon was the real reason why it worked out.
I don’t know how I’d have felt about Blomkamp’s Alien film. *District 9* was an incredibly promising debut, but his career since seems to have suggested that we dodged a bullet.
What about the surge of alien themed games and series? Third movie in Prometheus arc, aliens: fireteam, aliens: rpg, aliens marvel comics with reprints of the original omnibus's, and the rumored alien(s) tv series?! Are you sure that it's really slowing down? Not to mention alien: isolation success...
Totally random, but is there any way to listen to the outro track you use for your videos? It's sooo fun to listen to and I'd love to listen to it more
As someone who was obsessed with the Riddick movies in high school to the point of watching the special features and listening to the director's commentary multiple times, I can promise you David Twohy's name is pronounced "TOO-ee."
So back in the day my fantasy for a remake of Alien 3 was for Ripley's ship to have entered a trans-dimensional wormhole and be found floating aimlessly by .... Captain Picard and the crew of the Enterprise -D. As Ripley, Newt, and Hicks are from a different universe the Enterprise can barely make out their lifesigns when Picard instructs the crew to scan for life. But once they're confirmed Picard orders that the ship be beamed into the cargo bay. Since all three are badly in need of medical help Dr. Crusher keeps them under anesthesia for a few days. It's then that crew members of the Enterprise suddenly begin to go missing one by one. What ensues is Ripley being being revived, learning of where she's ended up and what's happening on the strange starship she found herself on, then going head to head with Captain Picard who initially refuses to entertain her take on why crew members are disappearing. I thought this up after being thoroughly disappointed with Alien3, but a few years later First Contact was released and contained a lot of the ingredients of my Alien/Star Trek mashup.
I was aware of most of these. However, you didn’t mention one of the scripts for ALIEN3 which was to climax in a huge battle featuring like, twenty power loaders fighting twenty alien queens.
Sometimes, I think Scott says things in interviews just to keep as many options as possible open. Like, if he says he's making 10 more movies and the studio sees there's buzz, it'll give him more juice in negotiations.
As a huge Twohy fan, the Alien 3’s lead being “Stiles/Styles” (a name Riddick fans will know) and it being set in a Prison Colony is basically just an early version of what eventually became the bulk of Chronicles of Riddick (minus the Necromongers). Had no idea about this script so it was cool to see the similarities. Huge Alien & Pitch Black/Riddick Trilogy, with hope for a 4th coming sometime before I die 😂, entitled Furia.
The franchise needs to try and move froward, not constantly backwards with prequels and reboots. The more they set stories before Alien, the more it undermines that movie which should be humans first encounter with the Xenomorph. Alien 3 was a perfect ending to the Ripley story, they need to move forward from that, not ignore it so they can drag an OAP Ripley out to rehash what's gone before. Have the Aliens finally get to earth and swarm the planet or have Weyland Yutani discover the alien homeworld and visit there. Some hellish, Gigeresque planet would be amazingly dark, creepy and atmospheric.
Great Video as always, Matt! Hey man... you mentioned a while back that you might someday do a video on The Greatest Film Ever Made a.k.a. My Favourite Film of All Time: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly! Still up for that?
Fascinating video! I’ve just got into the Alien movies for the first time and was so heartbroken at Alien 3 when Newt and Hicks died off screen. Here’s what they should have done: Alien Aliens Alien 3 (the same but you keep Newt and Hicks alive and the theme of the film becomes family maybe? With Ripley still dying but Newt becoming the main character and Hicks becoming a father figure.) Directed by Fincher but script by Cameron and produced by Ridley Scott to create a PERFECT trilogy! Alien Ressurection: A comedy spin-off film- it doesn’t have Ripley but keeps that weird cloning scene- just with a new character. That Alien Monastery film sounded interesting Prometheus Alien Covenant Disney + TV Show Alien and Blade Runner crossover??? Alien Vs Predator except good Alien Vs Predator Vs Terminator Aliens invade Earth?
What really would be interesting in the alien universe would be If the humans meet a warmongering and galaxy conquering race -but they cant beat humans since they had waged war against the aliens for as long as remember and those warmongering aliens has no clue how to counter humans warstrategies and their elite stormtroopers get anihaleted by small human forces .Much like vietnam I guess

I am actually surprised we didn't get a bunch of low budget straight to video movies at some point - I am not giving them credit for not wanting to make the movies seem cheap, I think they just want the big money from a successful blockbuster and not the smaller amount a direct to video would produce.
excellent video. Alien 3 is probably the film that got me to actually like the science fiction horror.
I know Prometheus and Covenant are mostly disliked but I really enjoyed them still so I do hope we can get some more Alien movie sequels cause I’ll always be interested and watch it
I enjoyed all alien movies except covenant, that one annoyed me
Great video as always, I would love to see a video about every Neil Gaimans' Sandman volume. There is so much to say about them
I am unironically still waiting for the Alien Awakening film. I just hate cliffhangers, no matter what the quality of the previous entry is and I was frankly into Prometheus and Covenant.
Another great video!
I always took that Alien 3 tag line as meaning 'in the cinema'
I seen a few fan concepts (treatments? Ideas?) about possible sequels. The ones I like are the ones that follow Newt being portrayed by Kerri Russell.
David Twohy's Alien 3 basically got fused with a pre-existing screenplay and became Pitch Black.
"How does it feel to have lived long enough to see all your favorite franchises go down in flames?"
"Feels great!!!"
:(
Alien, Predator, Terminator, Star Wars, Star Trek... we just can't have nice things, can we?
@@benjimlem1284 I mean, you Still have the MCU.
@@sebswede9005 IDK if that's sarcasm or not... I could care less about those bland, mass-produced made-by-committee movies.
RLM has no place to talk. They are sell outs.
@@IncredibleFulk1 ok
Love the Midnight outro!!
just wanna make a point for the original AVP at 11:00 , the predators didn't know humans were on the planet, this was a planet they have used for many generations to test predators against aliens as there were animals on the planet already.
I didn’t leave Alien... Alien left me.
This is me,
Signing off.
A James Cameron and Ridley Scott team up and the studio wanted to do AVP first? Just wow
@@Dejavuproned8 *Looks dubiously at Star Wars.*
Sorry man, not holding my breath on Disney understanding what makes a franchise great. I mean, I could be wrong. Maybe.
This is seriously one of the best TH-cam channels, entertaining, informative, and well articulated. I look forward to your videos, friend... also, Joss Whedon suckssssssss
Holy shit, he introduced Resurrection with a snippet from The Midnight's Dance With Somebody. Love seeing a fan of The Midnight
I tried watching it recently having seen it in cinema when released, but it appeared to be worse movie than I remembered sadly!
I watched your video and loved it. Then at the end you said you were a massive Alien fan. 👽 Instant Sub!
I actually prefer William Gibson‘s version of alien 3 to the one we got
Hello! Would u consider doing a similar video about the Terminator franchise?
I'm super excited for Alien:Romulus. Practical effects are being used apparently!
I would really love to see a comic book adaptation of Neil Blomkamp's Alien movie. If William Gibson's Alien 3 got adapted into a comic book, then i'm pretty sure Neil Bomkamp's Alien movie could be made into a comic book too.
The Alien short films from Quadrillogy are on here and they're actually really badass.
Cool hope you do a video on beast wars idw comics or radiant black
Maybe Disney should do a gritty new AvP. Need lots of camp in it tho
Thanks! I recommend Aliens Dead Orbit, Alien Salvation, and the first AVP. Tangentially, also Batman vs Predator
Nobody saw AvP:R... Including the folks who went to see it. Darker than the first AvP. Literally.
Unpopular opinion: I dont hate Prometheus, I like that its something different than the other movies
Damn I didn’t know they made a bunch of these unproduced screenplays into comics they also made a comic of the unproduced Predator screenplay where the Predator was this bug type alien
The Earth War Alien Art is awsome
Everybody likes to give primary credit to Ridley Scott for how good Alien was, but what we got in Prometheus and Covenant would indicate that he never really understood what he was working with. Honestly, I think Dan O'Bannon was the real reason why it worked out.
I don’t know how I’d have felt about Blomkamp’s Alien film. *District 9* was an incredibly promising debut, but his career since seems to have suggested that we dodged a bullet.
I actually think Twohys draft for alien 3 would have been pretty cool and a nice expansion to the alien universe
good video matt
They should've done the Earth War movie they teased in the early 90's.
It's sooo fun to listen to and I'd love to listen to it more
The comic adapted 3 was great
I will forever be heartbroken that Blonkamp didn’t get to make his film.
I think Disney should do Alien: Awakening and Alien 5 before doing a television series. Sigourney Weaver isn't getting any younger.
Disney is more likely to make "Alien: Woke" in which the Xenomorph turns vegan and joins a Climate Change protest.
@@martinharris5017 Their track record with Star Wars and Predator isn't encouraging.
@@sarrjel Indeed!:)
As someone who was obsessed with the Riddick movies in high school to the point of watching the special features and listening to the director's commentary multiple times, I can promise you David Twohy's name is pronounced "TOO-ee."
Alien rogue incursion is the final long awaited sequel to Alien Isolation..finally
A new Matt Draper video, TH-cam? Don't mind if I do. :)
2:00 Holy shit, I can't stop laughing at that thing!
Some hellish, Gigeresque planet would be amazingly dark, creepy and atmospheric.
well earthwar is basically happening with the new show
Great Video as always, Matt! Hey man... you mentioned a while back that you might someday do a video on The Greatest Film Ever Made a.k.a. My Favourite Film of All Time: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly! Still up for that?
Someday! It's my favorite movie, so it's a little challenging to cover.
All of these sound better than Resurection, Prometheus, Covenant, and AvP R..
The AVP series almost ruined it..Thank God Ridley came in to save it!
You don't list anywhere who created the outro music. Please advise.
Fascinating video! I’ve just got into the Alien movies for the first time and was so heartbroken at Alien 3 when Newt and Hicks died off screen.
Here’s what they should have done:
Alien
Aliens
Alien 3 (the same but you keep Newt and Hicks alive and the theme of the film becomes family maybe? With Ripley still dying but Newt becoming the main character and Hicks becoming a father figure.) Directed by Fincher but script by Cameron and produced by Ridley Scott to create a PERFECT trilogy!
Alien Ressurection: A comedy spin-off film- it doesn’t have Ripley but keeps that weird cloning scene- just with a new character.
That Alien Monastery film sounded interesting
Prometheus
Alien Covenant
Disney + TV Show
Alien and Blade Runner crossover???
Alien Vs Predator except good
Alien Vs Predator Vs Terminator
Aliens invade Earth?
To this day i wish for a Ward/monk wood/planetoid story.
Interesting tid bit: the first Doom game was originally supposed to be a Alien game.
