      @@jarlwhiterun7478 I agree with everything you said apart from the atmosphere of RDR2, which is an absolute masterpiece, not matching it. In addition, I feel that the Dead Space series as a whole also matches that kind of atmosphere perfectly.
      Anyway, they recently announced that they're making a followup to Isolation, which is _fantastic_ news. Here's hoping that it actually builds upon what made Isolation so great without sacrificing the sheer terror that's present throughout the entire game. And here's to hoping that Alien: Earth (created by Noah Hawley, the brilliant mind behind both Fargo and Legion for FX) will turn out to be great when it premieres next year. He already said he's ignoring everything introduced in Prometheus and Covenant, which gives me even higher hopes (Hawley's yet to let me down when it comes to the shows he makes for FX -- I'm still upset that his Star Trek movie got canned because of the pandemic a few years ago; the way I see it, if anyone could bring either Star Trek or Alien back from the abysmal state both franchises are currently in, it's Hawley).

    Idk how much you care about stuff not explicit in the movie for the overall lore, but turning people into eggs is still canon, cause the queen takes time reaching maturity and putting eggs so the drones create a few eggs, including a queen facehugger, to get the colony going. They don't do all eggs this way, cause by turning a being into an egg is one less being that can be impregnated by a facehugger.

    I will say only one thing in defense of Prometheus: the stupidity of the scientists and everyone on this mission is legit characterization, as the nature of the entire expedition was that the person running it was doing so spitefully out of obligation and staffed it with the absolute bottom of the barrel (and cheapest possible) "experts" who wouldn't be missed.

    I thoroughly enjoyed ALIEN: ROMULUS... It was TERRIFIC... and I say this a 1st generation ALIEN fan of 45 years... Producer Ridley Scott and co-writer/director Fede Alvarez have delivered a knock-out punch with ALIEN: ROMULUS, an unabashed love letter to the entire ALIEN fiim series, yet at the same time, a wholly satisfying stand-alone effort as well... It is a more than welcome addition to the lore of the ALIEN saga... I LOVED IT!
    ALIEN: ROMULUS is a very thrilling and engaging film... Director Alvarez (who I was totally unfamiliar with) was an excellent choice to helm this film.. His visual aesthetic fit hand-in-glove with the styles that Scott, Cameron, and Fincher brought to their films... The movie has more than its share of tense and exciting "soon-to-be classic" set-pieces... The dynamic character relationship between Rain (Cailee Spaeny) and Andy (David Jonsson) was a highlight, giving the film's narrative the emotional anchor that it needed to warrant my investment in the story... Both actors (who I had also never heard of before) are great, and you really care for their characters... The production design and cinematography is impeccable, and the music score is very effective as well... The practical effects are fantastic, as are the CGI elements (and unlike some, I thought that the SFX execution of Ian Holm as Rook was excellent, and a welcome addition to the plot)... And as a fan of the ALIEN Prequels, I was so thrilled to have this film connect to them. All in all, ALIEN: ROMULUS was a winner all the way, and it reminded me of EXACTLY why I love this series SO much.
    Here is my ranking of the 9 ALIEN films...
    The Top Tier (the Holy Grails of the series)...
    #1. ALIEN (10//10)
    #2. ALIENS (10/10)
    ALIEN and ALIENS are both true cinematic CLASSICS ... They will ALWAYS be the absolute best ALIEN films (I think ALL fans of this series believe that)... The first is the ULTIMATE Sci-fi "monster in a haunted house" movie, and the second is the ULTIMATE Sci-fi "war-action" movie... However, of the two, as good as Cameron's entry is, Ridley Scott's 1979 film ALIEN will ALWAYS take the #1 spot. ALIEN is simply one of the GREATEST movies EVER made. It is PERFECT...It is ICONIC... It's a MASTERPIECE.
    The Middle Tier. (and a very IMPRESSIVE Middle Tier, at that)..
    #3. ALIEN 3 (9/10)
    #4. ALIEN: COVENANT (9/10)
    #5. PROMETHEUS (9/10)
    #6. ALIEN: ROMULUS (9/10)
    ALIEN 3, PROMETHEUS, COVENANT, and ROMULUS are all AMAZING as well... Even if NONE of them capture the original BRILLIANCE and ORIGINALITY of the first two, they DO come SO VERY close, and ARE all "Damn Good" movies... They are equally good for DIFFERENT reasons, each adding richer depth and nuance to the lore of the series... It's hard to decide, but as of THIS moment, I've given them this ranking (which IS interchangeable).
    The Bottom Tier (true misfires)...
    #7. ALIEN RESURRECTION (5/10)
    RESURRECTION is a BIG disappointment compared to the first three and last three stellar films of the series... Although the story is interesting, and there are things in it that I DO enjoy very much, the dialogue, acting, and direction (more often than not) is unfortunately "so dumbed-down" that it seems like a cheesy Cannon film from the "80's... That misguided tone definitely HURTS it.... BUT, it IS a "masterpiece" compared to the rest, which are SO BAD that I will break down this tier to an even LOWER level....
    The "BELOW Bottom" Tier (we're talking "basement-level" here, folks)...
    #8. ALIEN VS PREDATOR (0/10)
    #9. ALIEN VS PREDATOR: REQUIEM (0/10)
    I don't even acknowledge ALIEN VS PREDATOR and ALIEN VS PREDATOR: REQUIEM... As far as I'm concerned, these films don't even exist... Both are bombs and TOTAL GARBAGE... I hope that both films get attacked by facehuggers and that xenomorphs explode from inside them...
    I first saw the original ALIEN in the theatre in 1979 when I was 12-years-old... In fact, it was the VERY FIRST R-Rated film that I EVER SAW in a movie theatre... I had to literally FIGHT with my mother and father to get ONE of them to take me to see it... I put up SUCH a temper tantrum that they eventually caved in... My father lost the coin toss, so HE took me... During the now-classic ultra-violent chestburster death scene of John Hurt, my father turned to me, worried about the well-being of his son, and asked me if I wanted to leave... "SHUT UP, DAD... LEAVE ME ALONE!", I angerly whispered back annoyingly under my breath, "I'M WATCHING THE MOVIE!"... Yes, it WAS scaring the hell out of me... But I was ALSO absolutely LOVING it... So we stayed... and that day I saw a cinematic CLASSIC.
    I was TOTALLY TRANSFORMED by what I was seeing up there on the screen as I sat there in the darkness. I had NEVER seen ANYTHING like that before. It blew me away... Sigourney Weaver's Ripley joined other recent film heroes of mine, like Luke, Leia, & Han, The Man of Steel, James Bond 007, and Kirk & Spock, as a new favorite... But most importantly, just as 1977's STAR WARS, 1978's SUPERMAN, 1979's MOONRAKER, and 1979's STAR TREK had ALSO done, 1979's ALIEN absolutely CHANGED my life... This young 10-12 year old was FINALLY getting to see TRULY GREAT filmmaking made by TRULY VISIONARY master craftsmen and artists... Not cheap, juvenile GUTTER TRASH like "The Apple Dumpling Gang" and "Petes Dragon" ("Ughhh!... How did I survive that rubbish?")... Not to mention the fact that ALIEN had the honor of being one of the very first films to introduce me to the amazing musical genius of the great Jerry Goldsmith!
    An amusing side note: When ALIENS came out in 1986, I was 19-years-old, and had a job as the Assistant Manager at my local movie theatre... Well, I can not tell you HOW MANY NIGHTS that, AFTER the theatre was closed for the night, my friends and I would have... ehem... "private midnight screenings" of ALIENS... Good times!
    This has been an AMAZING week... I NEVER dreamed way back then in 1979 that... 45 YEARS LATER... I would STILL be going to see brand new ALIEN films... AND... with Ridley Scott STILL serving as director and/or producer... How COOL is THAT?!?
    They say that in space, no one can hear you scream... But that won't stop me from screaming out my love for ALIEN: ROMULUS... To all those involved, I scream out... "THANK YOU and BRAVO!"

    To this day watching the original Alien I cannot believe this was released in 1979, its looked like a film that was released years later, that is so amazing it aged so well. Aliens is as perfect a sequel as you can get, combining the dread of the first film but mixed with more action matches beautifully that gets you at the edge of your seat, these two are a perfect pair.

    Another Excellent vid
    My Film Ranking:
    1-Alien
    2-Alien 3
    3-Prometheus
    4-Covenant
    5-Romulus
    6-Resurrection
    7-Aliens
    8-AVP
    9-AVP Requiem
    -My biggest problem with Aliens is that it changed the Alien from the first film and interjected a whole new caste system that was generic...adding the Marines was cool...but they devolved into Marine tropes that you see time and time again, with inept leadership.
    -Alien 3 is high on the list as it shows that nothing escapes the Alien... It was really dark film, which I liked and changed the genre back to a horror film from a silly action film. I get why people LOVE Aliens, but I feel it is very generic to me.
    -Prometheus is hard, because I love it, but being a scientist myself, it showed off the tendencies of how younger scientists now are also adventurous and daring than my generation of less thrill seeking stock. They dial that up to the extreme in Prometheus. The worse part of that film is the biologist who didn't want to really study biology and opted to leave with the geologist who also looses his cool because he too does not want to study anything (the bad writing there for both)...but other than that, not so bad at all. And the look of Prometheus has set people off of it, but c'mon, did you really expect Weyland to fly through space sparring any expense? That is why the technology was so state-of-the-art, especially when compared to a commercial towing vehicle.

    Prometheus is the one that leaves the biggest mark on me. Its a movie and franchise I really like the idea of. I saw a twitter thread that suggested the movie never mentioning its Alien connection, outside of maybe the corporation easter eggs, and just be presented as a new scifi horror film from Scott with the ending being the reveal. Id have liked a world where that was leaned into and then gone off on its own direction. The idea of a weird scifi horror franchise inspired by chariot of the gods feels like such a missed opportunity. Personally, i really dont care about "how can we make the Xenomorph kill people in more graphic ways". While Romulus is exactly the type of self referential legacy sequel I dont like seeing, I can appreciate it being done to a high level by a talented creative. But I could talk for ages on the nostalgia oroboros and how much I want movies to experiment and explore ideas rather than being super polished "hey remember this thing" park rides.

      @@jarlwhiterun7478 Isolation was an average slog at best....About 10hrs too long, turns into a generic mid FPS halfway through its awful length and the frequent AI breaking was laughable for a game that only let you save in certain spots after the 5th time the Alien AI breaks and gets stuck in a loop forcing you to reload and lose 25 minutes doesn't help make it any better than average.

    The first two Alien films was what gave us the Contra and Metroid series, with the Red Falcons based off of the Xenomorphs, the Metroid species based off of the Facehuggers, and a really big space dragon named after the first film's director.

    Joss Whedon did Buffy(TV), the even better Angel, Firefly & It's movie Serenity, Age of Ultron, and the undeniably excellent Avengers. Not to mention, he and his brother Jed created Agents of Shield, which was phenomenal. I'm more inclined to believe him saying the studio did every wrong, rather than blaming him for the whole thing bc of his script. That being said, I watched the anniversary version of Aliens Resurrection the other day, and while many may say it's a bad movie, it's a whole lot of fun. It is by far the goriest film in the franchise, it's got a lot of great Xenomorph moments, it's got some fantastic looking practical Xenomorphs, it's got a very different Ripley who is a fantastic leading actress, it has a ton of ridiculous and funny moments, it has the voice of Cucky Brad Dourif hamming it up with some great lines, and it just leaves you feeling much better when it's over, as opposed to Alien 3/Covenant/AVP Requiem. Alien 3 might be a better movie, but I'd watch Alien Resurrection over Alien 3 any day. Once you've seen Alien 3, you're good for about a decade before you need to watch it again.

      @@nathanielbacon2661 Well, I liked Angel season 5 more than any other season of Buffy or Angel. I loved the latter half of Angel season 1, and the full second and third seasons, four was not the greatest. Buffy, on the other hand, seasons 2 thru 7 are all consistently really good. Season 6 is one of my favorite tv seasons of all time. So, while I enjoyed the high’s of Angel, more, I’ll agree that Buffy was the consistently better show. I love them both. So, when you hear me say Buffy & the even better Angel, I listed Buffy first, and it’s really just splitting hairs. They’re both among the all-time greats.
      Edit: I re-read this and holy f*ck, I sound like the biggest nerd of all time.

    It’s not a movie, but I wish I didn’t suck at the Alien: Isolation game. It looks like a perfect combination of what made the first movie and survival horror games great, but I can’t experience it for myself because I’m so bad at it. I haven’t even seen the Alien in it, I’m still stuck on an early part where normal humans are killing me.

      Im just like you. Never been good as stealth type games . Tried, tried Isolation but not even seeing the Alien..not too long ago tried again. Lol. I got to a point where the Alien would kill me before I could take step. I couldn't even get 1 step away. I wanted to give up but I kept playing. You'll get used to it. And it's definitely worth it but you know that already. I know it gets frustrating . I've been there. But keep at it things will click. I'm playing on the default normal difficulty. Good luck. You'll get it if you keep playing

    I always go back and forth with prometheus, I think the major themes and the thesis of the film, the lovecraftian elements, and especially David make it a wonderful time, but a lot of the film struggles. It feels like it’s fighting between being its own thing and being another Alien movie. If Prometheus was either a complete alien film or a completely lovecraftian sci fi horror it would be amazing but it tries to be both and is hurt for it.

    My list is quite predictable:
    1-Alien: impossible to undermine this film, which is rightfully among my favorite films of all time. I love the contained and tense situation that is created throughout the film, and I appreciate Goldsmith's almost romantic music. Obviously, I cannot fail to mention the cast of actors and the star of the film, the finished xenomorph, the result of Giger's talent and the skilled hand of Carlo Rambaldi, often not mentioned in retrospectives on the film;
    2-Aliens: I could just say "Game over, man! Game over!" to make people understand what is so iconic about this film, namely the marines. They are characters that we immediately like, despite their boastful airs, and Cameron managed to implement a slasher in space into a real siege film, introducing a fundamental figure of the xenomorph cycle like the Queen;
    3-Alien 3: although its troubled production heavily influenced the final film, I feel like praising Fincher's film, given that it returns to the dark and desolate atmosphere of the first film, then having to recognize the beauty of Elliot's soundtrack Goldenthal;
    4-Prometheus: I really appreciate the atmosphere and the direction that Scott seemed to have taken, and there are many things in this film that I love (the cinematography, the landscapes, the CGI and the practical effects, but above all the music of Marc Streitenfeld and the characterization of David and Elizabeth Shaw, so different from the working-class context to which Ripley belonged;
    5-Alien Resurrection: I always take it as a sort of video game, and if the plot isn't that great, I really appreciate the characterizations of the characters, especially those of Ron Perlman and Brad Dourif and the practical effects are excellent, with mention of honor for the newborn;
    6-Alien Romulus: I found myself very satisfied with this film on the production front, with the recovery of sets in line with the first two films, with the use of practical effects and old school costumes. I must then underline the merit of many scenes regarding the direction adopted, especially those that take place in space (in particular, the sequence of the release of the shuttle from the station which impacts on the ice rings, almost a sort of Titanic of the future).. .unfortunately, on the narrative front it is failing;
    7-Alien Covenant: the lowest point of the saga, in my opinion. If it had been in the hands of another director, I would be kinder, but knowing how Scott's hand was behind it, having, in fact, interrupted a potentially interesting narrative line to make a mix of Aliens and Prometheus, I can't help but hate it cordially as a film.

    I don't know why, but there's something kind of refreshingly blunt about how cruel Alien 3 is, even with how blase the deaths of Hicks and Newt are. Match that with strong gore, and honestly I'd place it about Romulus for my ranking.

    Alien isolation is only fun as long as you don't know it's secret, which is that the alien is always over your head. The way the game code works is that the "alien" is always above you until a timer expires, then it randomly selects a nearby "spawn point" to which you need to do a mini-puzzle to make it despawn and go back to being over your head. It's not roaming the ship, it's not hunting you, you are not hiding from it or fighting it, those are just QTE's and the game is on rails.

    The only difference is I would actually rank Alien Resurrection above Alien3.
    Not that I think it’s any better of a movie, and both films prove early that they have zero reverence for the films that came before. But Resurrection is at least a fun watch with how campy and cartoony it is, and it least it has an interesting style and look. 3 is just depressing and ugly.
