      There's nothing to say about Vega at this time. I'm getting really impatient too, but AMD remains quiet. All we can do is to remain patient and wait for Siggraph. (that's July 30th to August 3rd - yeah, quite a ways away).

I'm considering buying a laptop for college, and gaming isn't really a priority, but I'm going to be using multiple monitors. I wanted to know if the 620 graphics are good enough, or if I should get something with a gtx 940m for example.

    My guess would be, that the manufacturing Process of 1080Ti GPUs is just getting better and so the "later" GPUs are achieving slightly higher OC results than the very first ones did.

      Not really, here in AU this retails for $1499 when an Asus base model can be had for $1099. Given this card has no unlocked power or voltage options, even if it's binned at 80% ASIC (which I would guess it's not, thanks for looking Jay...), it's not worth it. Evga Kingpin looks like one of the only cards above the base models to bother paying a serious premium for. Speaking as a 980Ti Matrix Platinum owner, this is a really disappointing card from Asus and no new Matrix model seems to be in the works.

    My EVGA 980ti hybrid is watercooled. I am sincerely very happy with this card. Saw it on newegg as a factory refurb with a 1 year warranty for $389 USD and added on 2 years extended warranty. All the goodies were missing out of the box though :( It's so sweet. Everything is silky smooth and it drives all three monitors at 60fps in every game I have. I would buy two more for my wife and daughter's computers if only they were available.

      1080Tis can't clock as high as 1060s, a GTX1060 will clock higher than a 1080Ti easily...

    • @MichaelSodapop
      @MichaelSodapop 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +awesomegamer919 That besides financial limitations is why I've decided to never go above a full 60 series card. So next time just an 1160 or 1260 with 6GB+ VRAM.

    • @xninja83x67
      @xninja83x67 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mike Soda irrelevant, clock for clock the 1080ti beats the 1060 by a massive margin therefore it clocking higher makes no sense to be one of your reasons to never go above a 60 card. Not being able to afford above a 60 card does make sense.

    • @MichaelSodapop
      @MichaelSodapop 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +xNinja83x For what I do even my 3GB 1060 is kinda overkill. So regardless if a 1080Ti could get me more FPS, it's completely unnecessary. If I just looked at it in the sense of "I can't afford it" I'd be more of a mess than I already am. Because technically I can't afford any PC, only managed to build one because I put it above everything else.

    on my founders 1080 (unmodified) im stable at +260 core and +380 memory and i never run into throttling issues.
    Really cant wait for Vega though. This 1080 has served me well considering i play everything at 4k and it hits 60fps on mostly max settings on most games with some drops here and there but I really need something with more power and ive found amd hardware lasts longer in terms of hitting the settings and frame rate i want than nvidia cards do.
    I replaced a 290x about 2 months after the 1080 released and im replacing the 1080 when vega is finally released. I have no reason to believe it will perform worse than the 1080ti and every reason to believe it will hold a high level of performance for longer due to the fine wine effect...something i def havent noticed with the 1080

    @JayzTwoCents I was wondering if at any point you tried to manually override the fan curve on the open air shroud AND have it on water. I know you addressed that the fans would not kick on due to the fact that temps would not get high enough for them to come on when hooked up to a watercooling loop, but I couldn't help but wonder what kind of performance benefits you could potentially get by having the fans on something like 30% fan curve while also on water.

    The only good thing about these hybrid cards that I can see is they should have better resell value than one that requires a water cooling setup meaning cheaper for the buyer. You won't limit the potential buyers of your card which is nice.

  • @CobrazHD
    @CobrazHD 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I bought this card, friendly reminder. You have to mount gpu vertically or buy vga holder. Card has sagging issue, what causes cooler to lose proper contact. If you fix sagging issue, you will drop about 10-15c load temperatures.

  • @DaTube-po3ry
    @DaTube-po3ry 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you put two of them next to one another, the cooling doesn't cool because the fans are on top. The EVGA hybrid has a separate fan that attaches on the case so it keeps cooling even if you put many cards. Just my (real) two cents.

    I've gotten my MSI Aero GTX 1080 Ti to 2050MHz no problem, which kind of surprised me since the Aero is basically a Founders Edition card, but hey, I won't argue with it. It caps out at 65C in most games, with the max ever being 76C. After overclocking, performance is perfect for me, especially since I'm only running a high refresh rate 1080p monitor.

  • @jimbok21
    @jimbok21 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm not trying to hate but you should leave the benchmark test on for a while because watercooled cards will get hotter much slower than an air cooled card. it takes a long time to reach the max temp with water while air cooled cards reach their max way quicker.

  • @vjc1218

  • @Andy-Fox
    @Andy-Fox 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I only buy reference design. That way I can choose to use aircooling or put on a waterblock without having to look very hard and hope there is one that fit. Maybe I'm old school and things have changed but I still enjoy my 1080ti FE cards even on air. :D If I want to overclock I would still go for a custom loop to include motherboard and cpu.

    The only really cool thing about this is that you don't have to disassemble your card to convert over to water or even back to air, so for people who are nervous about that this might be good for them. But the other thing that's cool, is that not only do you not void any warranties, you also get to keep Asus's RGBs. So... there are some plus's, though I'm sort of surprised that the temps aren't really .... that.... great. Even while running the GPU's built on fans? Smh, I don't get it. And no, no sacrificing noise haha. For the price of the Poseidon the cooling should be amazing, you can get down into the 40°'s with either an FE or a custom card, and $120 EK block, with NO noise.
