@Mr. Shlock civilians that subscribe to political parties are not the problem with the world, human flaws can all be broken down to a lack of empathy. systems of government or socio-cultural norms can encourage that lack of empathy, regardless of whatever tribe a person chooses to belong to
@Mr. Shlock You need Republicans and Democrats for a society to be healthy. One without the other just leads to tyranny. Far right or far left. I will say however that "inalienable natural individual rights" are horseshit. Those rights were granted. Like water or electricity, they're created utilities that can be destroyed.
As a Burmese, I immediately switched on when Alfred began telling Bruce about Burma. It might not mean much to someone who isn't Burmese but it did to me. His analogy is powerful but not accurate. The bandit he referenced was more likely a Robin Hood than someone evil like the Joker. Throughout Burma's sad history, much of its resources were pillaged from various ethnic regions. The Bandit was throwing away the precious gems (which Burma has plenty of) because he knew it belonged to the people of these regions - not to some wealthy buyer. In that part of the world where the people are devout Buddhists, they believe there is more to gain in the after life than in the present life. They really believe this. So those that are devout will do all they can to carry out good and not be swayed by the allure of earthly wealth. Whether you have faith or not, you'll appreciate this when you see it first hand. Go and travel Burma. If you can, visit the Kachin State up in the north where gems like the one the child was holding used to be easily picked up from rivers. This story is not made up. It's very real. The script writer must've had a first hand encounter or knew someone who did because there is no way this was pulled out of thin air. To throw in something about Burma in a movie like this was very intelligent. In addition to this, referencing the former capital as 'Rangoon' tells me the writer is well read and may have a strong British colonial education. Very few in today's age know that 'Yangon' was once called by this name. Fitting how it was mentioned by Alfred (who is a Brit).
Htut Win but if you look closely, the joker is way more than just a chaotic evil figure, but actually kind of like a Robin Hood of his own right. He bankrupted the mob, and forced Batman into temporary retirement because his existence worsens crime elevation.
@@joshuachang5210 Hard to say that's his real motivation. The Joker said time and time again his only intention was to sow seeds of discontent, to bring out the worst in people, to pull the rug out from under society and expose humanity for the primal animals they really are. His attraction to Gotham was 100% due to the vigilante methods of batman, an individual operating outside the system who doesn't play by society's rules. The message joker wanted to send to batman, and to Gotham, is that if you're not going to play by the rules, then you really aren't going to play by the rules... I'll expose these people and show everyone the dark, ugly truth that lurks beneath us, and hold absolutely nothing back. You wanted to bring down the mob and enact justice without the rule of law, then I'll do you one more, and bring down society entirely. That's a counterweight to the Robin Hood mentality - the Joker didn't side with the people, he sided with the crazies. His allegiance was solely to the darkest shades of humanity, and that's what made him the consummate "unstoppable force" against the immovable object of Batman.
@@HarryGillen The Joker has different theories about this scar: then you'd better not count him on anything, including him claiming himself to be an agent of chaos. And notice that the Joker isn't necessarily trying to bring down the society. If that is the case, the Joker wouldn't reveal his "ace in the hole", which then enables Batman to sacrifice his own reputation and save Dent's. Letting Batman take the blame also forces him to retire, which stops crimes from escalating, therefore saving Gotham. If such really is a part of the Joker's plan, then sure he sides with the people.
This is why Batman and the joker is the most iconic Superhero/ villian , ying and yang duo. Theres no other comic characters that cant exist like they do .
I like how in the 1:35 batman is using the sonar vision to locate the Joker. Nolan is letting us know how invasive and desperate is batman for catching the joker.
2:57 I've never really paid attention to how creepy the newspaper clip was. It looks straight out of a horror movie, the big black HA's scribbled demonically. Amazing.
Idc how evil a person is, no person is born evil. I imagine there was a time when the joker was just a boy who wanted to be happy. If someone is pushed enough over the edge, they lose their true self. It's our job to keep people from losing their way and their happiness.
"The bandit... had been throwing them away." That line chills me because there's that creeping sense of what kind of man Joker is even before Alfred drops the line about watching the world burn.
'Some men just want to watch the world burn' is 'the will to act' of The Dark Knight. 1 of the greatest summaries of a character in history. Bruce trying to use the logic of the criminal mind he learned from the League. Alfred knows this is no normal thug in face paint "Some men just wanna watch the world burn" And in the Joker's case Batman is perfect opponent. A figure who also has a taste for the theatrical but is trying to bring out the best in this city. Bruce is pretty much the finished article here when compared to Begins and Rises. This lesson from Alfred though, it's just perfect. Trying to figure the Joker out with his usual logic and tactics isn't gonna work and this is the scene which so perfectly establishes that 👌

We left the camp after we had inoculated the children for polio, and this old man came running after us and he was crying. He couldn't see. Today its much easier with the drones. I am sure they used a heli.
yoan Raggoo No actually, Bale himself actually stood there (of course with cables so that he doesn’t fall to his death.)
It was a drone shot. A helicopter backwash would have played havoc with the scene, while a drone permits an unobtrusive close fly-by with no danger to Bale.
@@Davedio Lol, no. There's no drone that can carry a big ass IMAX camera. Also, this was filmed in 06 or 07, so years before drones were a thing.

@@priestgoober5160 No, most likely it was filmed on a helicopter, due to the weight of the IMAX cameras.
@@HarryGillen well said mate. That's exactly how I was going phrase my response.
Interesting!

Idc how evil a person is, no person is born evil. I imagine there was a time when the joker was just a boy who wanted to be happy. If someone is pushed enough over the edge, they lose their true self. It's our job to keep people from losing their way and their happiness.
1:45 great shot of him.
1:37 to 1:54 is so god damn eerie, it’s one of the ultimate scenes from this trilogy...
That is by far as one of the best lines that that, butler has ever said
1:39 The direction and editing of this movie is awesome.
It's just Nolan in all his essence, directing his masterpiece.
That story, to me, is the best dialogue of the whole trilogy.
"The bandit... had been throwing them away." That line chills me because there's that creeping sense of what kind of man Joker is even before Alfred drops the line about watching the world burn.
This will always be one of my favorite scenes of all time
I love that Alfred immediately understands the Joker better than Bruce. There's a lesson there about life experience versus training.
This is such a legendary scene and line in cinema history and I’m glad it was Michael Caine who said it.
"Some men just want to watch the world burn" Masterful quote
'Some men just want to watch the world burn' is 'the will to act' of The Dark Knight. These movies are timeless works of art and exceptional explorations of the human condition that will be studied and appreciated for generations to come. Walking out of TDK was one of the first times I recall being grateful to have seen a movie. Nolan and company should be extremely proud of what they've accomplished.
'Alfred, how many children did you kill in that forest fire?'
I like how they portray Batman doing actual detective work but don’t make this a slow detective movie
This is one thing modern fiction fans don’t get. Not all antagonist have to be sympathetic, and not all main characters have to act like villains.

Michael Caine doesnt get enough credit for being great in this trilogy.
Some men just want to watch the old clips
1 of the greatest summaries of a character in history. Bruce trying to use the logic of the criminal mind he learned from the League. Alfred knows this is no normal thug in face paint "Some men just wanna watch the world burn" And in the Joker's case Batman is perfect opponent. A figure who also has a taste for the theatrical but is trying to bring out the best in this city.
Bruce is pretty much the finished article here when compared to Begins and Rises. This lesson from Alfred though, it's just perfect. Trying to figure the Joker out with his usual logic and tactics isn't gonna work and this is the scene which so perfectly establishes that 👌
The cinematography with batman on roof with the muffled radio ing and ominous music made is so good I thought the Dark Knight was R 😂😂
My Cocaine is so underrated. If you notice in Nolan’s movies he is the voice of reason. His characters are always an integral part of the stories

I have to say one of my favorite scenes is when Batman was standing on the sky scraper at the edge over looking Gothem aka Chicago
Bruce was following Ra’s teaching that criminals aren’t complicated, that went out the window when it came to joker.
"I remember when I was with Special Forces. Seems a thousand centuries ago. We went into a camp to inoculate the children. We left the camp after we had inoculated the children for polio, and this old man came running after us and he was crying. He couldn't see. We went back there and they had come and hacked off every inoculated arm. There they were in a pile: a pile of little arms."
