And yet he chose to reveal his secret by exacting far more vengeance than the situation called for instead of just knocking the asshole out like he deserved. He was going to leave town anyway; why not do something that would get him fired? I know; it was for the plot: a simple flick to knock out a bar bully doesn't make for the same movie magic as the impaled truck.

This is how someone who gets what Kal El was really dealing with throughout his life as an _alien_ (no matter what he experiences or how long he's lived on Earth he will never be human and will never "know" what being human really means as a feeling), writes a Superman origin story. And Henry Cavill is who absolutely was Kal El for that person. Not taking anything away from Reeve's version. But this is Superman done right.

I wonder who actually "knows" what it means. If you're basing humanity on visceral impulses to drive forward, you might be onto something. But big cats and apex predators have that urge also. I look through human history and it would seem that the bold have a period of decadence where what they do is only as good as the environment they shape, the people they can influence. Humanity is actually really awesome, but it happens in spurts. I think it comes down to a certain encoding that compels us to look at things through a lens of justice. When we can abide by it, we might get a decent beat on what's true

A father/man has only has a responsibility for his family. Deep down he knows Clark is right, that doesn't mean he isn't right either. That's the entire point of that scene. Neither is wrong, while simultaneously not being right.
Clark brought unwanted attention that could cost the lives of his family and himself being taken....
But letting them drown wasn't a morally driven choice..... thus he saved them, endangering his family.....

Oh yeah, this is fucking retarded. I wholeheartedly hate this version of Superman. He could pull the bus out of the water in a breeze and not even be seen, or disguise himself so he won’t be recognized, but nooo, Snyder has to write his scenes as if being Superman and actually, you know, saving lives was an unsufferable burden on his shoulders. « Rest assured that you were sent here for a reason son, but I guess it’s not for saving children, idk. » Why the hell take on Superman if you’re not going to, you know, HAVE a Superman in your movie ?

This just shows what happens when the obvious solution for clark is to rip the guy into pieces isn't what he believes in, yet the need to break something, the emotions inside, persists. Really shows an interesting dynamic about anger and self-control. Imagine how scary itd be if superman lost control.

He would've taken a risk by saving anyone on that bus, and would likely ruin his life and anyone else he loves if news got out further than just that town. Clark was sent here for a reason, and it is not time for him to make the decision to save humanity yet as a pre-teen.
If people discovered who Clark is when he was that young, he wouldn't be able to serve his purpose. That's the issue. Has nothing to do with him living against his values.

@@falcon1378 that's just a bad and silly take.
A good and moral person of the land, as Kostner's character was ostensibly written to reflect, understands the necessity to act, to put oneself at risk for the sake of other people, and to use the power of your body in service to others.
Jon Kent is a farmer, a man of the community, and it's inconsistent with his character for him to believe that letting a bus full of his community's children die in order to protect his son's or his own anonymity is a blatant rejection of everything he should stand for.
The writers made a bad decision here in order to make Jon Kent out to be some kind of high-minded philosopher playing 4D ethical chess instead of a simple man with values and a desire to keep his family safe. The writers had an opportunity here to explore Jon Kent recognizing that while privacy and the safety of his family is important to him, maybe it's also good that his son acted and saved lives. Instead, what we got is a Jon Kent cartoonishly committed to a questionable code of ethics that allows for the death of dozens of kids for his own self-preservation.
In the end, I'm kind of glad that character gets snuffed out by the tornado.

The whole point of this movie was to show Clark as very human - he's not always making the best decisions in every situation. He's not perfect; he's trying to be the best person that he knows how to be, based on how his parents raised him. He got angry at the trucker and compromised his identity in the process - that's why he's a drifter of sorts, constantly moving around. Why do you think he was working there in the first place? An imperfect Clark Kent is what makes this movie so good.
