IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING THE PIERCING SHOT KIT: It allows you to pierce *any* titan you hit, *including friendlies.* this is huge for team fights - hide behind a Legion or Scorch and just shoot through them, blasting the enemy for shitloads of damage while they can't do shit.
At 13:00 there's another strategy you could have tried. The railgun does a lot of damage at a distance but it also does a lot of damage up close so why not use it up close. In this scenario the Ronin is already close to you but he has to fight you in a tunnel. This means there are only two places he can be, in front or behind. This makes him a really easy target. Charge the Railgun. Make sure he isn't sword blocking. Shoot the crit. Repeat until doomed. Dash and execute. Sure you'll lose some health but you were gonna lose it anyway. Also, I agree with all of the video and would provide almost all the same advice.
im not a half bad player at gen 23 but im not the best id say as a northstar i could have taken his titan out but not before i lost mine, i just couldnt do it.
>play northstar on bounty hunt >enemy team ignores a drop zone >use cluster missiles >earn hundreds of dollars >die attempting to bank it It's very fun being a norhtstar main
Another Northstar tip is to charge the railgun and hover when in cover and then strafe out to take your shot before falling down and dashing back into cover. Works best with Viper thrusters
If you use hover once it ends, right before you hit the ground pop flight core and you’ll get a significant boost in the air. High enough to be unaffected by ronin arc waves and scorch flame shields. Maybe even Ion’s laser “trip wire” (which if you’ve ever flew way above one as a pilot and still blew up, you know functions more like a “wall” hitbox wise)
Another fun little trick to atleast make a ronin reconsider during a chase: you only need to charge your railgun to 3 pips to get the knockback effect, and the knockback effect can cancel a dash, so just constantly charge it to three pips and shoot the bastard to slow them down and do some damage while you try and run away
A tip thats especially useful against long range high burst damage targets (ie legion, ion, or an enemy northstar) is to dash out of cover, shoot, and dash back into cover. The three dashes kit helps with this, and if you do it right the opponent should barely have time to react. If there’s another piece of cover nearby, you can do the same trick but only use one dash to alternate between the two pieces of cover.
The best way to fight a ronin that’s blocking is to wait with your rail gun charged, the ronin cannot hurt you without putting down the block then your shot will push him back.
As someone who mains ronin and northstar, the ronin would probably just phase dash directly behind the northstar and arc wave before they can turn around. Phase dash has a thing where you can negate the dash "cooldown" and stack dashes, like dash/phase/dash and move really fast and far in a very short amount of time. The way I counter most ronins (cause noobs like using sword 90% of the time) is just put up esmoke, tethers, cluster, and spam punch as I back away. If you punch first, a ronin can't get their melee. Hilarious
If an ion charges towards you and laser cores from close range like in your clip, dash towards it during the startup animation then hover directly above the ion, and strafe between being in front and behind them. It makes you very difficult to track and can allow you to dodge most of the core, especially against a bad ion.
If you're doing Legion next, (assuming you will eventually) I got a few minor tips for newbies as a legion main: you can pull off 1v2 if the enemies are in your sights, but you're useless if they have cover, so despite your speed you should get close and use your dash for side steps or back steps only. Counter ready is handy if a scorch gets in your face, but wont save you so alwats have a backup plan. Extra ammo, longer smart core (about +6 seconds), or double power shots are the only 3 worth using. You are the heaviest hitter around, but also the slowest. Be prepared for any flanks, and your only TRUE counter is a scorch and a smart Ion (or if you're bad, than a decent Ion). Smoke for the Scorch, punch through their flame shield while in the smoke, and pray you get backup, but don't always fire at the Ion. Have them waste energy with their shield. If you're gonna be testy, use your powershot but aim at the ground last second. Against a good Ion, powershots will just kill you instead, so have them waste more power if possible. Maps like Angel City or Complex is good for nuke eject since your Fat, Diper butt is to big for enemies to get past. Lastly your long range powershot is explosive, about half the size of a Frag, so use it to get any pesky pilots around a doorway. (Sorry that it's alot, I get excited when given the chance to talk about Legions)
There's more advanced stuff, but I thought I'd say these for anyone getting into legion for the first time (since it's the most looked over titan, for understandable reasons. Sorry again)
23:10 It is worth noting that turning around and getting off northstar will negate all damage from the clusters on the titan (Be careful though, sometimes you die because of game bs). Granted, if you're in a pinch it isn't the best option, but it is a tool worth having at your disposal.
Of course you need to be flexible and rotate when you need to, but I believe Northstar is the strongest when you're able to hold lanes and take the most wonky shots possible. It's absolutely worth spending time in a private match just to run around and find openings you can shoot through that will surprise enemies. Also, twin trap is amazing. If you angle it correctly when against a wall, you can shoot one trap down the lane and the other will hit the wall. This keeps the traps separate and will delay Titans coming after you even longer.
You should make a video all about Frontier Defence and how each Titan does in it. Like how Monarch at max Aegis rank gets one of her tier 1 core upgrades straight off the bat. Specifically one of the two that isn’t equipped, so if Ark rounds is equipped then you’ll either get the extra rockets or the syphon heal from Apex Titan.
As a legion user a good counter against Northstar is to leave my titan to auto and just run toward the Northstar and spray spitfire or softball. It’s a high risk and high reward play style, but when mastered is devastating. (Bonus points if you rodeo for the battery)
Now, lemme tell y'all, as a northstar main, if you equip the 3rd dash, and the piercing rounds, or the better vtol engines, then play as aggressive as possible, from medium range, charge up, dash around a corner, take a shot, and dash back, then keep going to different positions or other places, do not sit in the back with northstar, it becomes harder to sit in one spot, get damage, and someone will come up behind you, because of your dashes, just run anytime you need to reposition, and use your tether only in situations when you need to escape. Northstar is my favorite titan in the game, and get relatively close to your enemies, you'll be golden.
As a G20 Northstar I have to mention one more useful trick: if you time your hover correctly, you can mostly dodge heavy archer's rockets. It's a very useful trick and I use it almost every match.
Nice tip that i learned while playing northstar is that you can use the plasma railgun behind corners to fool the other titans thinking it's you,it's very effective against opposing northstars
As a ronin main I have a love/hate relationship with northstar. On one hand it's glorious when a northstar properly uses me as bait to get good shots off while I pester the enemy with leadwall/sword block, while on the other hand I swear these bastards always see me before I do (possible skill issue ik). They always manage to keep me back with the knockback from the plasma railgun in combination with tether traps. In short: northstar is both my best friend that's always welcome when they're on my team, or an utter nightmare who deserves to get sent back to whatever backwater scrapyard they came from when they're on the enemy team.
funny story, when I first played Titanfall 2 as a noob, when I used northhstar’s core, I used to rapidly click to shoot missiles instead of clicking and holding, which would shoot a very little amount of missiles so I honestly thought that northstar’s core was terrible until I was taught how to actually use her core lol also as a strider main, movement and flank is key. that’s all oh and also thanks for the cool video hope you have a good day or week or whatever
Situational awareness is key for Northstar, So know your options, and keep in mind that some low terrain can be bypassed with hover, allowing you to get some very cheeky repositions that other titans cannot follow (E.G. Colony has a few low walls that you can hover over) Also, enhanced payload does have some use as making your cluster missiles better at holding down a position, however, some Titans just run through them anyways. Also, do not try to outrun a ronin, You have three dashes? They have four. Reposition early, keep your distance, but keep damaging them. Sword block slows then down (although phase dash is still a threat) keep backing up, or if they lose you, reposition. Also, dashing and then using viper thrusters is a great way to let you move while charging a railgun, allowing you to still move while opening fire on a nearby Titan, just be aware of where you’re using it though
Some tips from a Northstar main: If you use your flight core as you start to descend from VTOL you’ll fly even higher off the ground. If you’re fighting an Ion shoot your cluster missile at the ground in front of her. That way she’ll take damage and won’t be able to use the vortex shield to reflect it back. Use your cluster missile. Like, all the time.
Bro it took me 2 weeks to beat viper he still haunts me to this day I still hear his quote when I hear his name “ voodoo one viper on station your journey ends here pilot the skies belong to me no where to run no where to hide” still gives me chills to this day when I hear it
as a northstar and scorch main I often mix up playstyles and can confirm that, although it may seem like northstar is gud for camping, I love to bully random titans, focus one titan specifically (or whichever one has their face to you) and chase em down if they try running (you have gun to shoot them from far away). I can also confirm it's more fun being on the front lines as a nuclear eject northstar, and sniping people as scorch
Another trick I forgot to mention was that you can still step on pilots while hovering (you can crouch hover if they’re going to hit your hip instead of your feet)
Shooting double tethers at corners allows them to split and possible set your enemy up with not one but two tethers to deal with (longer overall tethered state)
Northstar rocket barrage is good for crowd control. Usually best for supporting friendly titans in the rear/flanks. More aggressive titans draw the aggro whilst you attrition their health and force them to retreat or just die. Trap mine is good for securing your own retreat or friendly titan who is outnumbered/bit off more than they can chew. Hover and dashes are great for quick GTFO escapes.
Tip #6 Moonboots: if you eject while hovering your pilot gravity is reduced making you a lot floatier. It also persists through rounds till you hover/vtol again.
I would play Frontier Defense all the time, and Piercing Shot was also really good in that as well. Both for lined up enemies, and for your annoying teammates body blocking your shots.
I used to main scorch I can confirm that if I was against a northstar with at least three brain cells I was very much screwed and relied on my teammates to come bail me out Ronins and legions, on the other hand, were hunted for sport to keep their population at reasonable levels
Northstar main here! [Non-ethical yet oddly good combination] when having the extra dash and viper thrusters combined. It leads to what i call "dodge and finish" where wherever a enemy titan is low on health or doomed, utilize the v-tol hover when sprinting towards the enemy then use dashes to either get (a. Closer (b. Behind cover close to the enemy. And then either do enough damge to bring said enemy titan to a doomed state then IGNORING ALL OTHER HOSTILES AND FRIENDLIES CONTINUE TO HUNT DOWN AND FINISH SAID ENEMY MAKING THEM REGRET BEING NEAR YOU IN THE FIRST PLACE. this is best on titan brawl :) Thanks! Also same thing with pilots, the dashes + v-tol make it quite hard to run or get somewhere to hide :)
Tip: When the enemy is in your face and you use flight core you can go right above them as they’ll have a harder time shooting at you and when core ends dash away while putting a tether trap on the direction where you’re going
If you are learning northstar and don’t completely get it or are good after watching this video, dont worry! This guys guide is a very defensive way to play northstar and not everything is really that smart Ion: Easy predict him putting down shield Keep your distance Ronin: if he is close, back up, if hes running away (regardless if he knows you are there) chase And set a tether between him and you Tone: take one charged shot then bounce, he will put up his shield and then you could put a cluster missile on it Monarch: take a couple shots but dont expose yourself to him for long Scorch: ez Legion: be sneaky with you’re corners if he has his shield up and try hitting his edges, but also you can dominate him Northstar: simply who hits their shots better, use your dashes to confuse them while exchanging shots (ignore you’re abilites most of the time except vtol) Cluster: as he said, good for choke points, trapping, and blocking areas Vtol: very good for scanning the entire map and getting out of bad areas like scorch fields or electric smoke plus it is a little weird to fight a northstar flying. It is also good for advancing on someone, dashing then vt hovering to quickly fly past them while laying fire Tether: use them offensively, throw them close or near your enemy then take cover and shoot blah blah Electric smoke: YOU CAN USE IT FOR COVER, yes if you are feeling overwhelmed, throw a smoke down so they cant see you and try running to cover I run viper thrusters and extra dash Viper was right, speed is life💀
I play a tiny tiny bit more aggressively with northstar but this is basically how i play, good vid👍 (Twin traps can also be used to escape multiple titans and also is better for team based support and has saved me multiple times
Best thing to do as a Northstar is tether an enemy whilst u have a nuke eject active, walk into their face while there tethered and force them to watch u nuke eject and they most likely cant do anything about it
quick trick from me, when I 1v1 a friend of mine, and I have used my tether traps, I use the electric smoke screen, then hover over them w/ flight core or just the railgun to take them from the back (he uses monarch).
One thing you underestimate about Northstar v Legion is that Legion’s long range mode, and his long range power shot, can actually deal out similar levels of damage if the Legion is precise with their bullets. I would know, because I actively battle Northstars when playing Legion. As you said, mobile Northstars are the ultimate counter, but a proper Legion player will know how to balance their dps between their primary and power shot. There will be times where a Legion will stop shooting for a bit, wait for their power shot to come back, shoot that for more core, and then finish their meter with the last of their ammo. To defeat the argument that Legion is a slow target, have turbo engine equipped, and you can balance your defence with a well-timed Bulkward shield and dashing to cover and reload whilst your dash comes back
iirc, Northstar has the same dps if you rapid fire uncharged shots vs firing as soon as you fully charge. The dps to charge curve is parabolic, so if someone's right up in your face or you're shooting down an evac ship just start blasting.
I play Northstar more aggressively then most players, ill core while hovering right above the enemy, dash in and out of cover and wasting no time with a full mag. I urge everyone to bring the fight to the enemy, tether trap cluster missile and fly around them while they get wrecked. Its very risky and gets you a lot of attention but swapping from defense to full offense confuses enemies.
it may sound weird but... as monarch you should use your 3rd secondary ability as an AOE attack. So, use it against multiple players/grunts or just one quick moving player. You can also use it for when you run out of ammo on your main gun and need a little extra fire power.
19:01 you don’t actually need to be doomed to eject. Idk what you play on, but there’s a button to activate the eject sequence (up on D-pad for xbox). I found this thru frontier defense as it’s the same button I use to ready up before a wave
It's a dumb tip, but a tip non the less. Use flight core as a dash bait. Use it agressively, so dashing towards northstar seems viable. With no dashes and a tether trap at your feet, it's a free nuclear ejection! Using it around multiple enemies while at half HP basically guarantees you'll be the main target, easily getting in execution (and nuclear ejection) range, but since you're in the air, they can't execute (most of the times)! On top of it, the tethered enemy might even bodyblock other titans for multikills! with this I get nuke kills every game, and multikills every 3-4 mathes. It works better than it should. TLDR, don't run, embrace death xD
i deal with ions by just fully charging and waiting until they put the sheild down. f in the chat if they hold it till it runs out of charge. they get 3 seconds max. I can keep chaging indefinitly. max damage and the are helpless to stop it.
I feel lik north star is more of an ambush build/hunter. You set traps to get your opponent then melt them or find them and then melt them from afar. I destroyed a whoke enemy team with northstar by ambushing and hunting titans before running away. Hit and run tactics.
It’s not a Northstar tip but its a tip about Scorch from a Scorch main. Flame shield is your best Buddy for wilting enemies quickly, especially if your running the scorch kit that boosts its damage and durability. It helps build your core quickly and it also melts anyone who gets to cocky. Also no one expects to see a flanking scorch.
Unless they patched it ALLWAYS use VTOL hover before using flight core it gets you a lil higher up and the ronins can’t use his sword on you and scorch’s can’t use that god damn shield and one more thing if you use twin traps and nuke eject place down your traps it will make sure the titan dies or give up there titan then you can kill them out the air use this one on the slow titans like scorch
Sorry, scorch player here, my big recomendation for fighting paps is, ALWAYS check behinde you, the amount of times my health has been chunked by a northstar locking down a hallway is crazy, but then I just go around and melt the north star, if you play northstar and you chunk a scorch's health, MOVE AWAY from that area because they will flank you and they will melt you (unless they're inexperienced and keep tryna peek you)
Would just like to add as a Northstar player, don’t save batteries for yourself. You either take barely any damage to make the battery worth it or you get ducking decimated with the battery making any difference. Lean into the supporting style of Northstar and give your friendly titans batteries.
@@r3eech Awesome, it's a great video and both games are real gems that unfortunately get neglected. Now maybe I can get better at playing Northstar with this helpful video.
I think the main reason i main Northstar has to do with 10 year old me having played TF2 campaign and seeing Viper. I mean, imagine that maneuvering in MP! Would be insane! Still main her to this day and can say that the flight core and thrusters suck even with the kit. If TF3 is a game to come and they add back classic titans such as Northstar i expect insane manuverability in the sky and an update to her sniper, so she can be in n out quick
I am about to start playing Northstar (in 8 years (holy fuck, titanfall 2 is eight years old this week) I have about 30 minutes with her) just because in another video I was shown that the AI is nice to you.
Voodoo one, vipers on station, your journey ends here pilot the skies belong to me. nowhere to run. nowhere to hide.
When you get to hell, tell em viper sent ya
Vipers got you in the pipe, 5x5.

BTW, this works for any piercing effect in the game, including Legion's LR power shot and his first Aegis upgrade in FD
Lol

Another Northstar tip is to charge the railgun and hover when in cover and then strafe out to take your shot before falling down and dashing back into cover. Works best with Viper thrusters
"Flight core isn't exactly the best damage core in the game"
me: proceeds to obliterate a full health Ion

I never do this, but "hover peek": use hover to float behind cover, then quickly move out and shoot to dash back in the instant that hover is off

on exoplanet i once saw a northstar get up to the right of the small pond area next to that egg looking thing
I would play Frontier Defense all the time, and Piercing Shot was also really good in that as well. Both for lined up enemies, and for your annoying teammates body blocking your shots.
Man, you could upload content about any game and it would be great after all. Don't let the motivation die my man 🙌♥️
I used to main scorch
I can confirm that if I was against a northstar with at least three brain cells I was very much screwed and relied on my teammates to come bail me out
Ronins and legions, on the other hand, were hunted for sport to keep their population at reasonable levels
And then either do enough damge to bring said enemy titan to a doomed state then IGNORING ALL OTHER HOSTILES AND FRIENDLIES CONTINUE TO HUNT DOWN AND FINISH SAID ENEMY MAKING THEM REGRET BEING NEAR YOU IN THE FIRST PLACE. this is best on titan brawl :)
Thanks!
If you hover and then, after the hover ends, immediately use flight core (before you fall too far) you’ll get extra altitude on the flight core
If you are learning northstar and don’t completely get it or are good after watching this video, dont worry! This guys guide is a very defensive way to play northstar and not everything is really that smart
Ion:
Easy predict him putting down shield
Keep your distance
Ronin: if he is close, back up, if hes running away (regardless if he knows you are there) chase
And set a tether between him and you
Tone: take one charged shot then bounce, he will put up his shield and then you could put a cluster missile on it
Monarch: take a couple shots but dont expose yourself to him for long
Scorch: ez
Legion: be sneaky with you’re corners if he has his shield up and try hitting his edges, but also you can dominate him
Northstar: simply who hits their shots better, use your dashes to confuse them while exchanging shots (ignore you’re abilites most of the time except vtol)
Cluster: as he said, good for choke points, trapping, and blocking areas
Vtol: very good for scanning the entire map and getting out of bad areas like scorch fields or electric smoke plus it is a little weird to fight a northstar flying. It is also good for advancing on someone, dashing then vt hovering to quickly fly past them while laying fire
Tether: use them offensively, throw them close or near your enemy then take cover and shoot blah blah
Electric smoke: YOU CAN USE IT FOR COVER, yes if you are feeling overwhelmed, throw a smoke down so they cant see you and try running to cover
I run viper thrusters and extra dash
Viper was right, speed is life💀
I'm feeling like a spy, watching and learning how northstar acts when approach Ronin, as a Ronin main
I play a tiny tiny bit more aggressively with northstar but this is basically how i play, good vid👍
(Twin traps can also be used to escape multiple titans and also is better for team based support and has saved me multiple times
Threat optics also good for finding titans through small pixel peeks
Dude this video makes me feel like a legend I can flick a pilot straight outta the sky with north star
How 2 northstar:
Play like ronnin
Remember you have gun
Best thing to do as a Northstar is tether an enemy whilst u have a nuke eject active, walk into their face while there tethered and force them to watch u nuke eject and they most likely cant do anything about it
OverCore+Viper Thrusters.
This is the way.
Oh man, you remind me of The Flying Teacup and I love that, thank you for memories, I will continue to watch you grow.
im relatively new to this game, and this video was super easy to understand. also funny. good shit, keep making videos 👍
quick trick from me, when I 1v1 a friend of mine, and I have used my tether traps, I use the electric smoke screen, then hover over them w/ flight core or just the railgun to take them from the back (he uses monarch).
To defeat the argument that Legion is a slow target, have turbo engine equipped, and you can balance your defence with a well-timed Bulkward shield and dashing to cover and reload whilst your dash comes back
Im a northstar main and I find it very funny when you hit your shots on pilots, also you get to look like mike wazowki
iirc, Northstar has the same dps if you rapid fire uncharged shots vs firing as soon as you fully charge. The dps to charge curve is parabolic, so if someone's right up in your face or you're shooting down an evac ship just start blasting.
And most important:
DO NOT nuke your teammates with nuclear ejection.
1:14 this sounded like he saw fuze before northstar and as if northstar is a fuze ripoff
If there are actually Viper voice lines for northstar, I will start playing her.
it may sound weird but... as monarch you should use your 3rd secondary ability as an AOE attack. So, use it against multiple players/grunts or just one quick moving player. You can also use it for when you run out of ammo on your main gun and need a little extra fire power.
Fun fact you can eject (I believe this self destructs) not during doom state, on normal controls is should be up on the depad and square or x 3 times
That’s fucking awesome. You can literally dodge scorches flame core like you’re playing jump rope.😅
Could be just how I move around map or play but I seem to get way more value out of enhanced payload than any of the others personally
i think when a roin is using sowrd core make sure to fly i think that will doge it
Thanks for the help I love playing Northstar
19:01 you don’t actually need to be doomed to eject. Idk what you play on, but there’s a button to activate the eject sequence (up on D-pad for xbox). I found this thru frontier defense as it’s the same button I use to ready up before a wave
Yes, but you need to be doomed to get the effect of the nuclear eject kit, which I mentioned in the video
Love these videos man
love the video man good job
14:12 tone is like the older brother to North Star that always accomplished more and was the favorite but lacks in creativity
New favourite titanfall TH-camr!
Viper thrusters make hover useful. Edit: it basically gives you a free in air dash.
Love to see titanfall 2 rebirth with guides and more player base ♡
I hope you make good ad revenue cuz I deadass had to hit skip ad 4 times only 11:30 into video. A great video, btw
This guy kinda sounds like a less animated Scott the woz
I have got heavy Uncle Dane vibes from this video for some reason, was it inspired from the engineer match up video?
Yep! Dane's one of my biggest inspirations!
@@r3eech Awesome, it's a great video and both games are real gems that unfortunately get neglected. Now maybe I can get better at playing Northstar with this helpful video.
Great video
I have you know I go to the back of the map for the scenery nothing else XD
I think the main reason i main Northstar has to do with 10 year old me having played TF2 campaign and seeing Viper. I mean, imagine that maneuvering in MP! Would be insane! Still main her to this day and can say that the flight core and thrusters suck even with the kit. If TF3 is a game to come and they add back classic titans such as Northstar i expect insane manuverability in the sky and an update to her sniper, so she can be in n out quick
Fuse is actually Valk's brother.
DEEEP LORE
I can’t stop playing Northstar
Tip:you can use hover then at the end use your core go to higher
Good video! but "CQC combat" was painful to hear
imagine not having a solenoid to eject
I am about to start playing Northstar (in 8 years (holy fuck, titanfall 2 is eight years old this week) I have about 30 minutes with her) just because in another video I was shown that the AI is nice to you.
It’s risk of rains railgunner
Railgun
Mine
Missile
Flight
"semi slow/fast projectile"
so a normal one
For some goddamn reason Threat Optics makes me miss all my shots though
Like viper said
SPEED
IS
LIFE
18:57 That’s me the guy your fighting “Swimhawk12”
I wanted to know why you used flight core from so far away gg man
